He's getting a full makeover, so that's restringing, wiring, sueding, faceup, mani-pedi, body blushing, the whole five yards. I managed to get a slot with Buff, and their work is really awesome so I can't wait to see him all done up. Especially his faceup, I never really liked how they did his eyeshadow, and the wig he eventually settled with doesn't match his eyebrows lol.

I've been searching for the perfect MSD boy and I also really love traditional Asian faces. It's hard to find a truly Asian looking face in doll form. But today I saw DF A 1/4 Xuan Yi. He looks gorgeous in the photos on the web site. But none of the pics show him straight on without the wig, so it is kind of hard to see what he really looks like.

I would love to see pics of Xuan Li, if anyone has him. Or please tell me you opinion of him. I'd like to get him while the summer event is still going on. It ends August 27th. Thanks for any advice or info.

My boy has been home for a while and I realised I never showed his new look off here :p He poses so well now, before he wouldn't have been able to take that pose, let alone stand like that without falling over every two seconds!

 

Does anyone have any owner photos of a DF-A August? I'm considering getting an August head for my character, but all I've been able to find are company photos. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

 

I found my old DFH Zhi Yan head, so I stole Kyte's body so I could see what she looks like all dressed up and with a wig. I'll need to get her a body and do her faceup at some point, and figure out a name. I'm thinking a cutesy dessert themed name so far, but that may change.

Hi all~ I ordered the DF-H Wen Xin last month and was wondering if anyone has photos of this sculpt yet! She seems pretty different from the other DF-H dolls I saw on AC/MoC.

 

I am searching the internet as well, for owner pictures of her, applepie. You seem to be the only one right now, who ordered that adorable little girl! I can not wait to see your pictures!

Hope its okay to bump this thread. I did post something similar in newbieland but I think it should be okay to pose these questions to the experts here as well, as most of you are familiar with DF. I also got the DFA practice head - I won it as a newbie starter pack, he came with a wig too.The problem is that since I didnt actually buy it myself I'm not sure what the colour is but I'm at least 90% sure its normal yellow.
I've been having a hard time figuring out what body to put the head on, though. Since the head is 19cm, which is apparently pretty big for a MSD, it seems like its hard to find a good match size-wise. The best matches in terms of size are:
-DollFamilyA 45cm - Well obviously, but I'm unsure. The pictures aren't really enough to show what the body is capable of to me, and to be honest I don't like it so much.
-DollFamilyH 45cm - This one looks better, although I keep wondering if its actually the same body. The photos also arent really showing much about how well it poses.
-DollZone 45cm - I hear lots of good things about it, and I've seen a pic of this head on that body that looks good. However, the resin matching is giving me a headache. It looks fine with white skin, but my head is (probably) normal yellow, and DZ's yellow looks too dark for me.

The other bodies I really like, but aren't sure if they'd match properly:
-Kid Delf: I like the aesthetic, but I worry about it looking too small despite the neck being bigger.
-LittleMonica: Honestly this one is my favourite but I'm worried its too small due to the height (42-43cm) and the LittleMonica MSD's having smaller heads than 19cm.

I have some requests for the DollFamily fans in this thread!
1. Would anyone be willing to show off the range of poseability of the DFA/DFH 45cm body? If someone has already done this let me know!
2. People who own the Doll Family A Practice head - do any of you own a kid delf or little monica, or another MSD with similar measurements? Would you be able to try the head on those bodies so that I can see?
3. Can anyone confirm my fears about DollZone yellow? Is it really too dark, or does it just look that way in the photo?

Sorry for being such a needy newbie. I'm really excited about this DFA head - I see a lot of potential in him - but I'm worried about getting him a body that doesn't fit.

 

I can say something to question number 4 as I have lots of dollzone and their resin color is not stable at all
you can be lucky and get a normal yellow in the skincolor that matches or get one which does not match at all.
when you have new NY piccs of dollzone and you order you can never be sure the resin is still the same.

I finished a faceup on my DFA practice head, he says his name is Draven and he has been cursed to have a baby face and blonde hair. Even wigs turn blonde, he is very emo and dresses in dark mori. Having blonde hair and a baby face cramps his style, which is probably why he was cursed with it. He must have made someone powerful very mad.

Oh cool - I really like seeing how varied the results are for what people do with the practice head! Can I ask what body you put him on?

Despite my above post, I think I'm now leaning towards the Doll Legend 45cm as it seems pretty good proportions-wise.

 

He is on a Dollzone old single jointed body. The AoD body is thinner but has same shoulder width, which is the only other comparison I have.

Hello everyone !

I am not sure this is the right place, as I don't have a pure Doll Family doll right now, but I bought a Doll Family A girl head in January 2016 to use for face up practice and she just had such a great resin match with the white Dollzone boy body, that she took it over for now xD. I love her face, it's great for face ups and very versatile. I am not actually sure which name her sculpt is, as when I bought her, she was only labeled "Doll Family A practice head". If anyone knows the name of the sculpt that would be awesome .

The sculpt really is just called 'doll family a practice head', but someone mentioned hearing its a version of Bach's head. That seems kind of likely as the Bach doll does look really similar.

I finally got mine a body! (Doll Legend 44cm thin). Judging from the waiting room thread it should be here in a bit over 2 months. I'm a bit worried about resin matching - it seems everyone isnt having a problem with it, but everyone who has this head has it in white or pink and mine is normal yellow. I'll just have to deal with it, though. I also got him some eyes when I was in Japan last week.
He looks pretty creepy right now but I cant do his faceup for a little while longer as I still dont have my respirator and a few other things.

 

@Torino thanks a bunch for the info! I checked out the Bach head and gotta say: VERY similar, so maybe it is actually based off the Bach head. Which is interesting, because I thought of the head as a girl all this time, but it seems to work just as great as a boy !

As for the resin match: All I can say for now, is that the white skin resin match for the practice head and Dollzone body is great. The resin does feel different though.The DZ body is very smooth, while the practice head is a bit rough, which I personally prefer for a face, as it makes drawing face ups easier for me .

He's finally finished!
I'm not good at faceups - this is the first time I've really done one after all - so its not final, and I'll probably be redoing him eventually. I can't now because I've run out of MSC and am moving to Japan in two months, so I'll probably redo it after I get back in a year or so. His lopsided mouth does bug me a bit.
His eyes were sanded open a bit more.


Also changed his eyes from the Volks ones I had originally - I just didnt like the colour, plus after his eyeholes got bigger they made him look really starey and a little creepy pft. These Luts ones work a lot better.

edit- Also should add that the Doll Legend body is a near-perfect match (both normal yellow).

Its such a hard decision, to be honest! I'm already taking my smartdoll and 4 small Azones (1/6), vinyl is lighter and less delicate after all. I was just going to pack them all in a box and mail that to my jp address before I leave. But he'd have to probably go in his own box and be a lot more securely packed.
Since I may only stay a year I don't really want to have too much luggage so it's probably best if I don't bring him...especially considering that I plan to make the most of my geographical convenience and increased salary to get more dolls!
I think I'll just pack him up so that he's in an ready to ship state (I have to do this anyway just for the peace of mind that he's safe and secure and not getting dusty) and if I feel like I really want him with me I can ask for him to be shipped.

i was in japan just for one month but still i needed to take them with me...eru wanted to see his minimee so there was no way around that XD

yes if you pack him you can always ship him to you.

 

My newest mod is on the Practice head or Bach. I kind of like that name and since he doesn't have one perhaps, he will keep it. The inspiration drawing is by tamtamdi on deviatArt. I should have done a little more sanding but I was getting anxious to see him faceuped.

I couldn't find any pictures of her blank sculpt on the internet; in fact, neither AC BJD nor DF-A had pictures of her blank head. For anyone curious, this is what she looks like without a faceup:

I also got a free Bach head because of the summer event, but I have no idea what to do with it.

Wow, it's really interesting to see the Bach head with a face up! It makes it look so different. That's what I love about the BJD community Love those piercings, too!

Also, you've made a lot of progress on the smiling face mod, it's fantastic! Are you planning on adding some physical teeth or will they stay as they are?

 

I was looking at my Bach head and noticed how much bigger he was than my Vivian head! According to Alice's Collections the body proportions between his body and Vivian's body are almost exactly the same.
Maybe DF-A made his head sculpt bigger so that, with his body proportions, he seems younger?

That's true. Adding clothes, wig, accessories, and even faceup makes a huge difference! It can change the look of proportions.

Today I finally had enough and took my DF-A Vivian apart. She's been kicking and and snapping because of how tightly the company strung her. When I took her apart, there was some resin dust in the joints. I'll probably have to wash her before restringing.
I did feel amused at taking her apart and took pictures in the beginning.

My baby has been sitting on my desk next to me the past couple days, I just love this outfit on him so much. He'll be 4 in June too, I've had him for a while now, and it'll stay that way too since he's on my never ever EVER even consider selling list

 

I know this maybe the wrong place, but I'm looking for a Doll Family H Zhi Yan MSD head. I know I don't have market access, but, if anyone knows where I can find one and point me in the right way I'd greatly appreciate. I'm also aware she's retired, lol, that why I'm having a hard time finding it.

 

I know it was asked earlier in the thread but there was no reply - does anyone have owner pictures of Dollfamily H Wen Xin? I can't seem to find any anywhere.

Oh yes, Yue Jian's sculpt is beautiful! I'm pretty much in love at this point, but I'm pretty disappointed that Doll Family still hasn't made it a habit to publish pictures of their blank sculpts. Currently, I'm entertaining the idea of using Yue Jian's head on another body, since it seems like a good shell for one of my characters.

 

I just ordered Shan Nai! I love the new girl body and the sculpt reminded me of a dreamy version of Volks Lorina...just couldn't resist! I hope I'll like her when she arrives home

Seconding this opinion! I'm in love with both Yue Jian and Shan Nai but I'll wait for owner pictures. I already have Chiyu and feel like he looks a lot different than the company pictures. To the point of thinking about selling him. :-/

If anyone is interested I can post pictures of Chiyu both blank and with custom faceup.

 

Congrats on getting her! She's already on my wishlist. Post pictures when she arrives pretty please.

I ended up ordering Wen Xin's fullset despite only finding a couple owner pics (without company faceup) and she arrived today. In case anyone else want to know what her company faceup looks like, here it is!



Not exactly the same as DFH's photos, but still lovely. She looks so different from their other sculpts.

No, it was released a couple months after my order. I wish it had been available since I would have preferred the new body. I do really like the elbows on the old body compared to my Luts doll, they look so much more natural.

She did come with loose eyelashes so I'll probably have to glue them back on if they get any looser. Her eyewells are too deep for any of the eyes I had laying around so she has the eyes they sent with her in for now - they were a struggle to put in. Hoping to find some nicer eyes to fit her soon.

I'd love to see Chiyu pics too, @Sonik. Im looking for a little more mature looking mini size male that isn't a slim body. I like the different builds of DFH mini bodies, but wonder if Chiyu is too baby faced.

 

Hi! How does DF-H resin change with time? How fast does it change color?
And, has, anyone, gotten their Shan Nai yet? I am interested in buying her, but there are no owner pictures of her yet anywhere.

 

Does anyone have any pictures of the DF-H 46cm Version 3 boy body? I'm wanting it for a hybrid for one of my characters (the head will be a DZ Benjamin) and I can't find ANY info on that body at all, like how it looks in person or how it poses, etc. I like the overall shape of it, but the hands look a little...childish and out of place. How are the 1/4 jointed hands compared to their regular ones? (Also, side note, do they still make the Rain sculpt? He's very cute, but Alice's Collections doesn't list him and the only reason I found out about him is cause a site called dollmansion.net has him, is that place legit or even still running? I'm really interested in him)
