Doll In Mind - LOVE - Discussion

Feb 23, 2006

1. Bringing this thread back to life...just received a lovely Cordelia from Ebay only to discover that none of my shoes fit her!! So I will try the DM model shoes...are there any others that might fit? And let's see some more pics, please!! :)

2. I'm bringing the LOVE back ;) Since September I have a beautiful Angelo, he's always been my dream doll. The problem is that his body refuses to pose, stand or even sit straight. Do any of you have had this problem and how you solved it? Because I've been searching and I've found nothing.

3. Hmmm, Riwanon - I've never "worked with" the boy body, only the girl body, so I'm not sure how much help I can be to you, but I'll try...
I think your problem might be a combination of a couple of things - first, your Angelo's stringing may need to be tightened. Is he all floppy when you try to get him to stand? My Bellosse stands with no problem, but she too has problems with sitting up straight without something behind her to hold her up. Sometimes, if she's in a good mood, I can get her to sit up straight by messing with her thigh joints. It's a little hard to explain, but I'll give it a go - what I do is once I get her into a relatively sitting position, I pull her thigh pieces apart from the uppermost leg parts just enough so that they are offset and no longer locked into place. I try to position the thigh part so that the bottom of it kind of goes over and slightly below the uppermost leg part. Sometimes the pieces don't want to stay separated and just get pulled back into place by the elastic, but usually cooperate eventually. This positioning of her leg pieces somehow makes her be able to sit up on her own, but it makes her upper body look a bit taller, and her legs look a little shorter. It doesn't look weird on her, as her legs are so long already, and she is wearing a skirt that covers the awkward thigh joint positioning. Will it work on the boy body? Can you accomplish the joint positioning if the doll is wearing pants? I'm not sure, but I thought it might be worth a try! Good luck!

4. I have a question about hands for the DIM Love bodies. Denny tells me they are no longer making the various hand sculpts, and I really don't want jointed hands. What other companies would be a good match, size and sculpt, for the DIM body? Color match is not a problem, as I will be making them into black gloved hands.
I really hate that they aren't making the extra hands anymore. I love the Love hands ;) They are impossible to find on the secondary market anymore.

5. Is this really the only thread for these guys? :? The Happy mini size thread always seems active enough. Well, today I got my Arno head. He's on a Domuya D-1 Flexi body - the posing is amazing. He goes out for a faceup soon, but I took a couple of photos of his blank prettiness. :aheartbea

His name is Justin.

6. Wow, he looks lovely in that wig! And I know what you mean, I wish this thread was as active as it's Mini counterpart :( I'm saving for two DiM heads currently that I hope to hybrid, but it's so difficult finding possible resin matches for them.

7. Thanks! ^_^ It's a Leeke Bella wig that I took scissors to - it was down to his thighs before. It's a lovely colour too, "Brown Carrot." Once he gets his faceup I can post full colour pics of him - right now the resin match is terrible so I resorted to b&w or sepia for my shots. I'm hoping the head can be lightened with the use of white and pale yellow pastel. Proportion-wise, though, the Domuya body is a great fit. The neck size is perfect. I'll do my best to keep this thread alive - there MUST be more of these boys out there!

8. Well, Justin is back home now with his faceup, and since blushing the head to match the body didn't work out, I dyed the body while he was gone. The match is pretty good now! Spam:

9. Wow, your boy turned out fantastic! Thanks for sharing :D and posting in here to still bump this up in hopes for more discussion. I just sent out my Bellose boy for a face-up today and I'm unbelievably excited to see how he'll turn out. I'll definitely be sharing photos!

10. Has anyone seen the new Happy Girl Miru? She is adorable with those full lips….I'm thinking……I might need her.

11. Doll In Mind sculpts are adorable!
My first doll was a DIM Arno. I got him second hand and I simply love him! The only thing that irks me is that he can't sit or stand without me worried that he'll topple over. I don't know the body i got with him, but assume its a DIM one, cause I've been told that some of the back joints are a little wonky. But i guess its part of his charm <3

12. I've got a Terrence head on the way, and his body is waiting at home! I can't wait *__* I've wanted this doll since I got into bjds...

13. Terrence has a very unique face - I look forward to seeing spam of him!

I got a new camera today, and Justin got his new glasses.

14. Those glasses are adorable! Where did you get them?

And I got back Isia from his face-up artist a few days ago, he looks SO lovely! I'll have to show him off once I take a suitable photo :D

15. They're from Tata's Paradise. :) They come in a little zippered case with a cleaning cloth, too!

16. I'm saving up to get an ARNO head with a girl body (I guess also from DIM). Does anyone know if it will fit and if so, how well?

17. The DiM girl body has a 9.3 cm neck, and the boy has a 10.5, so while the fit won't be perfect the gap shouldn't be very big. Alternately, you could look for a girl body with a wider neck. I'm pretty sure I've seen Arno girls before!

18. wow it's been quiet in here :<

I just scrubbed, washed, and wiped my Robel... He's since been repainted.. I need to do some more mods onto him.. but I like it thus-far. As long as I don't use flash on him... LOL flash picks up -ALL- the pigment... I hope when I layer on some lightly pigmented glue to make them more raised... yay keloidal scarring.. which are really the only kind he ever gets so they get to be all bumpy and gnarly. I added some layering lastnight which was ok.. but Some of the glue didn't stay as lifted as I'd like..

Ohwell.. I love his faceup now compaired to what it was
have some Adonis~
[IMG]

19. Sorry for double posting .. but since the thread is so slow I suppose it's not that bad...

I wanted to share a better shot of Adonis' Face :>

I am proud of his new faceup.. his original one he had before I even got him had really left some stains around his eyes.. and some damage to the top lids.. but I still love my boy.

20. Wow! This thread sure is quiet!

I guess I will resurrect it with a little Persia spam! Persia was my very first doll! He turned six years old this month! (He's such a darling boy!)

Also, it looks like DIM has issued a new sculpt of their Love 60cm boy body. It looks pretty nice. (Though, I have to admit, the butt looks a little odd to me.)

21. I ordered a body for my Lloyd head last month. And then they go and release a new body! :) I'm still waiting but as soon as Lloyd has a body I'll post some spam.

Do I hear a pulse on this thread? :)

22. I noticed a Bellose and Kassia thread that I posted on. It is very quiet.

My Bellose is supposed to arrive today! A few ideas for her "look" going through my head. Can't wait to see her!!

23. Rabbit-moon-Your Persia is a cutie!

24. Yay! This thread lives again! I've been updating my wishlist and it would appear the only dolls I have left that I'm pining after are all DiMs XD I'm feeling the itch to start a search for Robel seeing as he's no longer in production and I've no idea how long it'd take to find one...

25. Everyone needs a quest! :)

Denny told me they'd be shipping my Happy boy body next week. I'm hoping they send my Love body with that. I ordered them fairly close together and I think DIM combined the shipping on them so I'm assuming that is what they are doing. I can't seem to name Lloyd while he's just a floating head. :)

26. Bellose arrived today and there was a half closed eye head also!! Is that normal? Maybe an extra event situation. Whatever it is, I like it!! :)

27. :o I'm so jealous! Sleepy Bellose/Kassia have been on my wishlist for ages! Please post photos <3

28. Kassia is on my wish list too!

29. After taking photos of him yesterday and because it was asked I thought I'd mention what I thought about his posing. Well of course DIM went and released a new Love boy and girl body after I ordered his body so this is the old version.

One thing I noticed right away is that when he's in a normal straight position his back seems to be arched backwards slightly. I can push him forward at the torso joint but he kept snapping backwards. His legs also kept buckling on me whenever I'd go to move him. Or I'd go to straighten his leg and his torso would snap back.

I prefer the elbow and knee joints on the new body as they allow for a larger range of motion (they're the same as the joints on the Happy boy body V2). I wish I had known they were going to release a new body because I would have waited and ordered the new one.

Once I get him into a pose he'll hold it. You can see him sitting unassisted in the photo above. I haven't done a whole lot of posing with him because the body arrived late in the afternoon and I was in a rush to share photos. I will likely take him outside again today and play around with some more poses.

I definitely think the new body looks superior to this one. I know my Happy V2 boy can touch his face easily and hold that pose and it looks like the new Love body would be able to do the same because they have the same type of elbow joint.

I hope that information is helpful to others. As always I'm more than willing to take any photos that someone might like to see. I know this forum is dead but hopefully we can give it some CPR and bring it back to life.

30. I always forget to spam and chat in these threads :<

Some Adonis love.

31. Yay for spam! Adonis is very cute.

32. Jen-How tall is Kai? I just love him!!

silvermasques-Your photo is fantastic!

33. skyeyze - He's 61cm. The new male bodies are 62cm.

Your Bellose is beautiful and I love what she's wearing.

I posted this in the Happy forum but I'll post it here as well for comparison's sake.

Where the boys are... by Jen Savage, on Flickr

Ryan (DIM Happy Ace)
Ash (Iplehouse EID Dexter - superhero body)
Kai (DIM Love Lloyd)
Chase (DIM Happy Jullis)
Tanner (DIM Happy Miru on a V2 boy body - in the front with no faceup).

34. Thank you jen!
Kai has a "tude" as does Ash!
Ryan, Tanner and Chase are the quiet sweet guys!

35. Oh yeah Kai is definitely not there to help the boys. Tough luck for them! He looks like he's smirking and kind of sticking his nose in the air. I love how much attitude his face has.

I've noticed that I tend to be drawn to a lot of dolls who either look like they're pouting or have smirky/bitchy faces. I'm not sure what this says about me... :)

For the sake of other owners and because I'm always looking for this type of info, I'll add more about Kai's clothes. Not visible in the photo are a pair of high tops. I forget where I got them but they were sized for 1/3. I had to really loosen the laces to get them on but they fit perfectly.

His jeans are from Alice Collections. They are a bit loose but that means he can sit down comfortably in them and they don't pop open. I believe the tank top is also from Alice Collections. It's quite loose fitting on him but still works as long as that's the look you're going for.

His hoodie is from Wicked Stitchery and it's just beautiful. It fits him perfectly. His necklace is from Dollmore I do believe.

He has a default faceup. I forget who I got his wig from but it was someone on Ebay. He's also wearing Calvin Klein boxers (not visible) that I got from Ebay. :)

36. Thanks a lot for the review of the older boy body svgjen. I'm still not sure which I'd like most, I kind of like the 'simple' joints of the older body, at least in my PD dolls I'm very happy with them. Maybe if you wire him (as I've done with mine) you'd get him to hold poses better? I've found that helps a lot.
I'm trying to see if I can get more used to handling SD's, that's mostly whats holding me back. I've already saved up enough money and put it aside, so maybe I'll join you guys here some day.
Love Kai's wig!

skyeyze: Your Bellose looks amazing!

37. I've never taken a doll apart. I'm scared to try. Probably memories of being a child and taking the phone apart to see how it works only to realize I'd never get it back together again.

Once I get him in a pose he'll hold it, it's mostly the flipping back thing that's annoying because I don't want him to bash into anything. Luckily his wig is staying on when it happens. It's nice and snug.

38. Oh but for wiring you don't have to take him apart: all you need to do is slide a piece of wire in next to the elastic at the elbow, while pulling on the arm to give you some space to work. Then work the wire up towards the shoulder on the one end, and down towards the hand on the other.
I've done the same with the legs of many of my dolls, and let the wire run up into the body a bit. That way they don't flip back as you describe.

39. Oh well his elbows weren't the problem, it was his knees that kept buckling though I'm not sure it will be a problem in the long run. And he isn't flipping back at the arms, it's his torso. I try to make him slouch forward and it will jerk back into place. His arms are fine I just prefer the joint system on the new body.

40. To stop his knees from buckling, wiring his legs the same way as I described for the arms will fix that. It's really simple to do, and you can take it out any time you want. Leaving enough length in the wire ends that go into his torso, will help with his posture and prevent the jerking back of the torso part.
My Jullis did these things as well, whereas Alpon is much better, but wiring the legs made both pose even beter. :)As I did it, I noticed Jullis' stringing was different: only one loop went up through his neck. By pulling up the other loop from the torso, that already fixed most of the problems. Maybe that's something you could check as well.

Wiring helps prevent legs from twisting around in dolls too, something I really hate when trying to pose or dress them. So I've wired every bjd I have, except the two ver2 Happy boys, who don't seem to need this.

41. Oh I hate that twisting around too. I'll have to look into it. I think his back is arched a bit too far back too since when he's not slouched forward he looks like he's leaning back. I'll have to take some nudie pictures of him to show what I mean. ;)

42. [IMG]

Adonis is my pain in the arse about posing.. nothing I can really do helps his legs except for Super stiff thick wire.

43. Thank you Wolfboy!

44. Thank you skyeyze! He's has the original ver.1 DIM boy body which is so darling and immature looking. Perfect for a young boy! I kinda miss that body, what with so many of the doll companies going to very mature and muscular sculpts.
Your Bellose looks wonderful! Beautiful face-up!

Oh! Svgjen I feel your pain! I got that the ver2 boy body too, and it has always been a major pain to pose! I got mine in 2007 with a free Johnny Depp event head, and the sway-back drove me nuts! It also pinched me pretty good a few times when it snapped back on me and flipped Johnny's wig across the room.
I have never figured out what to do about the sway-snapping-back problem, and swore I'd never buy another DIM boy until the body was re-designed. At this point, I want to hear and see more about the new boy body before I decide to buy again.

45. I'd thought about buying the newest body but it's another $400 so I don't think it's really worth the trouble and I'd be left with an extra body. Better to just suck it up and find ways of working around those things. I can totally see getting pinched by the back piece, it really snaps back quite violently. It startled me the first time.

46. Hey ya'll! So, I'm fairly sure there is a request thread to show examples of DiM hybrids in the Picture Requests section of the forum, but I can't find it anywhere when I use the Search function(the only one that shows up only has four responses and I'm pretty sure it was a much longer thread). Can anyone help me out? :)

47. Hey again! I don't have a hybrid so I can't help you with that but I'm more than happy to talk about the Love dolls.

There's a new Love boy on the DIM site. I'm contemplating whether or not I should buy him. I love his look.

Here's some Kai spam:

Kai by Jen Savage, on Flickr

48. Svgjen, your boy looks great! I love Kai's moody expression. He has so much attitude!

Yes, I noticed the new DIM boy, too. I think he's gorgeous! Im a sucker for beautiful Asian boys! I especially love the sleeping-eye sculpt. I wonder if they will offer the sleeping-eye sculpt by itself, later?

49. Good question! I'm tempted to buy him partly because he comes with the sleep sculpt! I also like the look on his face in the photos. He looks like someone that shouldn't be messed with. I seem to have a thing for either mean looking or snotty looking dolls. :)

50. Yay! This thread lives! (and with a pretty picture too :D)

I haven't looked too in depth at their newly designed boy body, so I'll have to go check that out. I'm really sad Spiritdoll seems to be doing poorly as their gorgeous bodies were perfect for my planned future DiM guys and gal, especially their female body. I do like the DiM girl body, but I wish her hands and feet didn't look so clunky or her overall design not as detailed as some others. I'm also considering an Aria body for my future girl, but I know now that Switch owns the body they'll be making some modifications to it that I won't know if I'll like. It's so hard finding mature female 60cms girls with a small bustline :(

51. Iplehouse offers bust options but I think it's only the bigger girls. They've just released some new busty 60cm girls but lots of folks are asking for small bust option and they tend to listen to their customers.

I don't know about a resin match since my Iplehouse dolls are both in their "real skin" so they're much darker than my DIM dolls.

Here's a photo of Kai with Ash (Iplehouse EID Dexter in real skin)

Ash Approved by Jen Savage, on Flickr

52. Svgjen, Im the same way! I love boys with attitude! Your Dexter looks gorgeous!

InkyBear, I am sorry to hear that Spiritdoll is doing poorly. What has happened? I own a Spiritdoll Dark, and I love the ver.2 boy body.

53. From what I've seen in the Shipping Questions subforum, their communication is pretty much gone. I think some people have been waiting on order since December with no replies to their emails. It's a real shame since their bodies are gorgeous and from what I can tell would work wonderfully with DiM heads.

Svgjen, I'll keep an eye out on Iplehouse then :) Usually their dolls are too realistic for my tastes so I haven't given them much attention, but it's interesting to know they could possibly have small busted girl options in the future.

54. Oh, I'm glad this thread is getting a little activity now! Since hybrids were asked about, I have one recommendation - the Aria Doll normal skin is a near-perfect match for DIM normal, and the 16 years classic body was a very good proportion match as well for my Arno. He used to have an older body by Domuya, but this one's a much better resin match and easier to pose.

Come on, boy, show a little modesty. Do you ALWAYS strip for cameras? <_<;

55. solitary agent - I love your boy! That photo is awesome. I won't show it to Ash. He isn't very well behaved.

56. Ooh, yes! I love the Aria bodies! I was (still am if Switch doesn't change the design too much) considering their female body for my future Kassia girl. Ironically, I just realized this, I already have an Aria/DiM hybrid! My Bellose boy is on their 14 years body :) I have the Aria 16 years body as well (isn't it just perfect?) for my Little Monica head, and since I don't allow body repeats that cancels them out for a possibility for Robel or the future twins.

I love your guys' photos, keep 'em coming :D

57. Oh! solitary agent, your boy looks wonderful on that body! The resin match looks really good, too!

Inkybear, I was wondering if the Little Monica resin is a good match for DIM's? I was thinking of a Little Monica boy body for a DIM head I have. Or would a Luts Senior Delf boy body be a better match? The head is sort of pink. (Im not familiar with Aria bodies.)

58. If you don't mind waiting a little bit I can check for you :) At the moment I'm on my spring break and at my parents home and don't have any of my dolls with me, but in a week I'll be back at my apartment and can see how they compare. I don't have a Luts body unfortunately but I can certainly see how the DiM resin matches up with Little Monica resin.

59. Thank you InkyBear! Oh, yes! I can most certainly wait! I hope you are having a lovely time on your Spring Break! (But, Im wondering, how can you bear to be away from your dolls for a whole week? :sweat)
