Has anyone been to the Dolk Station store in Akhibara? I'm lucky enough to be heading to Tokyo later this year, and was wondering if it's worth a visit? My other question is if they actually stock dolls? The website has a list of "on display" dolls, but I'm not sure if they are actually available to purchase?
It was one of my favorite places to visit! They have a great variety, and while I never bought a doll there myself, they did have prices next to them so... I assume you could buy them there? Just keep in mind that a lot of stuff is upstairs, which is in the same building but the stairs are outside and around the corner from the downstairs entrance.
Thanks for the tip about the stairs! I would never have known. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, it bodes well for my own visit.
That's arguably my favorite store in Akihabara--definitely visit! And it does seem like the display dolls on the second floor are for sale, but they always seemed extra-expensive to me so I never really considered it.
Dolk has a 'no photo' policy- so it's tricky to take photos inside their shop. The shop itself is located 10mins walk from Akihabara station. They do stock dolls- quite a few actually.
Thank you! It's going to be so tempting to buy a doll without having to wait months for production, I'm so pumped to go. I'll have to make sure I have internet to price check then, though from the website I think they might be pricey because of the brand/being all fullsets? Just an impression though.
I definitely recommend DOLK! It's probably my favorite BJD stuff here in Tokyo. They're really great about letting you try clothes on if you have a doll with you (up to three outfits, if I remember correctly). However, you'll have to ask in Japanese. I haven't tried asking them in English. Their outfits, wigs, and accessories are pretty reasonably priced and everything is fun to look at even if you don't buy anything! I actually bought my first doll there, a Tiny Fairy~ (He's in my profile picture.) I think the price was hiked up a little bit, but I could take him home that day and had no shipping or customs payments. They also gave me a free wig (that I could choose myself from what they had) and a pair of eyes. They also gave me a carrying bag that I've used many times since!
That sounds so lovely! The perks of being able to take them home on the same day are huge, it will be sooo tempting.
What dolls they have does change. Some dolls have been there since the first time I visited (more than a year ago) and sometimes a doll I saw a week or month before isn't there. Definitely keep an open mind and let your bank know that you'll be in Tokyo so your cards work~ I hope you enjoy your trip!
Good tip with the bank thing, it'd be a nightmare to lose access over there. It's a little off topic for the thread, but do you have other BJD stores you'd recommend? I'm guessing you're a Tokyo local.
Your assumption is correct, I do live in Tokyo~ After DOLK, my second favorite is Dollyteria. They have a store in Ikebukuro as well as smaller stores in Shinjuku and Yokohama (a bit far). They have quite a few dolls there, including some rescue dolls that definitely need some TLC, but are under/around $100. They also have lots of Blythe/Pulip and Barbie dolls, and clothing and some furniture for all sizes. Many people recommend going to Mandarake, but in my opinion, unless you want to look at the other things Mandarake has, their BJD selection just isn't worth it. However, if you're going to be in Nakano Broadway or Akihabara anyway, it's worth checking out, I think. There are also Volks stores in Harajuku and Akihabara (which is a bit hard to find if you don't know where it is). If you like Volks dolls or their clothes, these stores are worth visiting. However, they do have a "Volks dolls only" rule so if you have a doll from a different company, they may not let you try clothes on. And, it's not a doll store, but lots of the 100 yen (dollar) stores have lots of things that are doll sized! They have mini food sets and shaped erasers that work perfectly for dolls (depending on size). So check out Daiso or CanDo and see if you can find any treasures there as well! Enjoy your trip and feel free to PM me with any questions, or for directions/suggestions! (Don't want to clog the thread, haha)
Omg I'm so happy I saw this! I'm planning on going there next week and maybe bring home a doll. I was wondering whether you'll get the box and all the certificates with dolls you buy? And is this one in the Radio kaikan building? Did you buy anything?
The DOLK in the Radio Kaikan Building (the same building with the Volks and Azone stores) is new! It is strictly a doll showroom. I haven't bought a doll there, but there were girls buying one when I was there and I snuck a peek~ They come with a box if the company provides one, and will come with whatever certificates the company provides. If the doll company does not provide a COA, DOLK will actually give you one of theirs! The DOLK store with clothes and accessories is about a 5-10 minute walk from the new showroom. I recommend checking them both out! ^^
Omg useful info!!! I'll go check them both then. Can't wait! They do take credit cards right? I emailed them and they said maybe. But cash is fine. XD but getting so much cash at once isn't that nice imo.
Unfortunately not! It was a beautiful store, with some lovely accessories and dolls - unfortunately it didn't really cater to my scale though? I only have tinies <25cm, there were a couple fullset realfee I was very tempted by, and some lovely eyes - but the majority of the stock is for bigger dolls </3
Oh that’s sad!! But you’re getting my hopes up a bit. I am looking for an SD girl. I visited the Nagoya Dolk store today and the Nagoya Volks as well. The Dolk was a bit of a let down. Very small, creepy music that creeped out my husband who already thinks dolls are a bit scary... and no interaction at all from the shop lady. D: Not a large selection of dolls either or nice displays. Volks on the other hand was beautiful. Combined with a gunpla store, very nice displays and dioramas. I’m really looking forward to see what both shops are like in Tokyo.
The volks store was very nicely set up! The dolls were all dressed and posed, some in nice little scenes, but most just on nice shelving. I will say the staff didn't interact much - but also I don't speak much Japanese, and they didn't speak English (totally fair). Though the girl in the downstairs shop helped me find the stairs to the second floor part!
Sorry for the delay! Yes, all the BJD stores I've been to in Tokyo take credit cards! And as a heads up, most sales people in Japan won't really approach you. If you have a question, you can just go up to the counter and ask. The employees probably won't speak English, but showing them Google translate on your phone can get the job done in a pinch! Enjoy Tokyo and you can DM if you want to know how to say anything in Japanese. My Japanese is decent at best, but I can get my point across! ^^
Thanks! We're going today actually! My Japanese is decent too but Google translate always helps a lot. I'm super curious. thanks for the extra info!!
Visit was made. Purchase was made. The store ladies were super nice. I bought a 60cm girl - Jay from Doll Bom and I've never heard of the brand before but she's so pretty. Thanks again for the info. The store looked so classy too.
Thanks for the information on your Jay doll. I'm thinking to buying one, but never heard of the company.
