I totally agree with you, Mu Shu and Stellarphenomena! I really don't care for Grace Marie at all. Like I said before, her expression appears to be completely off. She looks like a zombie version of Sydney; her expression is so lifeless. Sydney is one of Tonner's most beautiful sculpts, but whomever he got to do the face-ups for the Grace Marie dolls needs to be replaced! Stellarphenomena, your Sydneys are wonderful! Now, that's what Sydney looks like! Would love to see more pixs of Sydney! RTW Sydney 2004
Thanks Valdermagra for reposting @stellarphenomena post! There's a lot of great info in that post. I kinda wish all that great info was posted on the first page of this thread, in the first post. (Hint...hint...Stellarphenomena )
Hello everybody. I hope this is a good place to ask - would anybody know any good websites for offering a Tonner doll for sale? I have a repainted/restyled Tonner Rufus doll with glass eyes which I'm trying to sell, he's a very unique guy but sadly I couldn't bond with him. Should have learnt my lesson after having bigger BJDs like MSDs and SDs, big dolls are just not what I'm comfortable with, I'm mostly a 1/6 scale fan. I had and still have him for sale on ebay, but they are stopping using paypal after this month and as I'm not agreeing with giving them access to my bank account, I will have to look for other places to sell him if nobody buys him till then.
Mercari and Facebook groups are probably your best bet. With Mercari, you're more likely to get people who buy the doll because they like the way it looks, whereas with Facebook groups, you're going to find more educated (but also picky) buyers. There's also Poshmark, but I've never used it personally.
Thank you, I will take a look at them. I still hope he sells on ebay in the next couple of weeks, it's a shame about the new rules. They'll be wanting to know my birthdate, passport number, to have access to my bank acount - just doesn't sound right, doesn't sound safe.
Hi all! Just a little drive-by spam of my most treasured 2.0 Tylers. Recently, I was able to get another 2008 Basic 2.0 Tyler with red hair. Bidding was fierce on Ebay for her, so I was really happy when I won her. Here's my first Basic redhead. I kinda have a thing for redheaded dolls. They are so pretty. The basic 2.0's don't seem to come up that frequently anymore, and the prices are getting ridiculous. There was a seller from France who was selling a Basic 2.0 Raven Tyler for $400 dollars! That's crazy! I just scroll past those kind of sellers rolling my eyes.
She's gorgeous! Thanks for sharing. I haven't bought a new Tonner in a long time...I kind of forgot about my wish list after he ended his Tyler and friends line. So, I was looking at this "Tyler Sculpt 2" catalog. Which ones do you have, and which ones do you want? Dreamcastle Dolls I love this one, even with the smoky eyes: https://www.pinterest.com/ozdollmania/au-milieu-de-lhiver-tyler-2008-le100/ Au Milieu de l'Hiver Tyler Face Au Milieu de l'Hiver Tyler Face[/URL] by Alison Rasmussen, on Flickr
Thank you Stellarphenomena! Finding a second 2.0 redhead was a very lucky stroke for me. She's been on my Tonner Wish List for a long time. Ooooh! Thanks for the picture of the Au Milieu de I'Hiver Tyler. She is one I wish I'd gotten. But, in 2008, I was so totally into BJDs, I didn't have time for other dolls. Now that I've calmed down from my BJD furor, I can appreciate other dolls again. So, I've been playing catch-up with Tyler & friends since 2017, when I first saw a 2008 2.0 Raven Tyler. I think I own ten 2.0 Tylers now, but I've been too lazy lately to photograph them. I finally got a Bryant Park Tyler earlier this year. She was another one that had been on my Wish List, like 4-EVER! I really do need to find the time to take some pictures of them. I know I will never get them, but if I could find them (and not have to sell a kidney for them) I would love to have 2008 Joyeaux Anniversaire Tyler, and 2014 Princess of Paradise Island Wonder Woman. But, they are horribly expensive when they show up. Thankfully, I'm not desperate to have them. My grail doll was the 2008 Renaissance Tyler and, happily, I have her. You don't have any Tonners that you still want to get?
IMG_20210523_230209_hdr by Dawn Coulombe, on Flickr Sorry for the crappy pic, but something comes through anyway. This coat is amazing. Curled lambswool collar, red silk lining. It's from Summers and Fields. I play with my Tonners. They're not MIB. I have a Brenda Star that is MIB, and that's it.
She is lovely! I'm with you and skipping past those $400 dolls - a lot of the Ellowyne Wilde dolls are nearing that $300+ mark and nope, won't do it. THAT IS A GORGEOUS DOLL I don't have any of the outfits but several of the Summers and Fields ones are really nice, and I love the 60s and 70s vibes.
Wow. WOW. I'm a smokey eye FIEND. She's gorgeous. Question for all - is Tyler 2.0 the version with more articulation? (I have two with no elbow, wrist, knee, or ankle joints, and... not a fan). I purchased the low articulation dolls because it was cheaper to get their outfits that way than it was to buy the outfits alone. Now I'm stuck with two doll bodies that I'm not a fan of. Good thing I've got a 3D printer.
@MaleficentMrsofEvil Erm, I'm a newbie, behind my times in some areas... What will you do with a 3D printer and nakie Tonners?
Make new bodies! I've been working on replacement bodies for dolls whose bodies I don't like: MSD sized bodies for Fail Fix heads (I think the proportions look better), SD-sized bodies for Rainbow High (ditto), and slim MSD bodies for Tonners. The nice thing about BJD bodies is that they're so much simpler to make than plastic or vinyl bodies - the joints are much easier, for a start. And creating neck pegs is fairly straightforward. The biggest issue is time. With work, family health issues, work, household stuff, did I mention work? I've been too freaking busy to get much printed. In fact - Le sigh - I've got to get back to work... One more quick edit - a decent 3D resin printer and some resin will only set you back the cost of a mid range MSD. We bought a Frozen Mini 4K printer and enough resin for at least 3 doll bodies for less than $400. Filament printers are even cheaper - but I'm lazy and hate sanding.
I appreciate your informative response. I bow to your creative powers! Hehe. Yes, I have been pricing. My daughter is a creative with computers. She has her own plans, but I've tried to tempt her to the idea of Resin. Maybe I can figure it out... ?x3
@MaleficentMrsofEvil: Tyler 2.0 just means the second face sculpt. I don't know why Tyler had a face change?! Not sure, but I think Tonner started in 1999 with that non articulated body, and transitioned to the better body in 2005. He would go to create many articulated bodies! See first sixteen pics (Tonner bodies) https://www.brodjam.com/doll-body-sizes
@Rabbit-moon: There are a few Sydney dolls that I love, but I just can't "want" any more, because most of my Tonners are sitting in their box due to lack space...I don't know what I was thinking when I bought the 25 I have, lol. I'm happy for your finds! Where do you put all your dolls? You have a large BJD collection too!!
Hi Valdemagra! Thanks for the pix! Wow! I love that outfit on your Tonner girl! I remember those old Somers and Field Mod British Birds dolls by Doug James and Laura Meisner . Back in the late 1990s I was pretty smitten with those girls, and have several in my collection. The dolls' bodies were awful, with dreadful articulation, but I loved their clothes! I have a real soft spot for the Mod Era and the swinging 60s. Kudos to you that you still play with your Tonners! I am a true believer in the power of play. It keeps you young! MaleficentMrsofEvil: Holy Cow! You are definitely an evil genius! I am stunned by your inspired creative vision. Wow! I am so fascinated to see how you will do this with a 3-D printer. Please keep us informed/updated on your work. Do you have a link to your project so we can follow you?
@Valdemagra: Pretty! Is that Sister Dreary? I don't have any MIB dolls either. I love to dress and display them. I do change my limited space display shelves up, so some have to go in the box for a time.
Hi Mu Shu! And, thanks! I love me some readheads! No kidding! I just won't do it! I refuse to pay such insane prices. People are getting so greedy! Have you added any new dolls to your collection? Gone to any Doll Shows? Hey Stellarphenomena! Thank you! Oh, it's crazy around here with my dolls. Thank goodness, my Husband has no problem with me having dolls all over the place, but they are mostly situated in my Doll Room. One of the extra bedrooms has been turned into the Doll Sanctuary. I have a lot of dolls safely stored in their doll boxes in the large closet. I have book shelves with glass doors where the rest are displayed, inside and on top. I need to get in there and organize it better, because I, too, am at critical mass with my dolls. Sometimes, I look at all these dolls and think I must be crazy! (F*ck yeah! Crazy for dolls! )
So, Robert Tonner giving up the business is making the collections of those that bought early a very good investment. I've an early catalogue that is beautiful, Wilde and the Dreary Family have so many outfits once available. Not my collecting wheelhouse though, I keep reminding myself.
@stellarphenomena Danke! That's an amazing reference site! Bookmarked! @Rabbit-moon - sure thing! We've been promised some relief next month (at work). Fingers crossed! All of these unfinished projects are giving me major frustration/anxiety.
I'm not into Tonner dolls and my wallet thanks me. I find them beautiful but I know I wouldn't do anything with them. Much like some of the high end collector Barbies I've seen, I feel like these would be dolls that for me would be display only pieces and I don't have the space or money for dolls I'm not going to play with. Though the makeup on this stunning lady comes close to tempting me. If only she wasn't blond but a redhead or a darker brunette.
I just picked up 2 new Rainbow High dolls but other than that, nothing new. Currently working on selling things off to pay for vet bills and some big car repairs. There haven't been any doll shows (sadly because of the pandemic, I think many of the few shows that were still left 2 years ago will no longer be returning. I think the next show is the BJD con in Tx in October!)
@Rabbit-moon: This is a doll I wanted for a long time before giving up on finding her for a decent price! BLONDE BOMBSHELL BLACK CANARY photo: Doll Mino
Great MaleficentMrsofEvil! Really looking forward to seeing your 3D projects! Hey there Mu Shu! Sorry to hear you have vet bills. That always means that fur-babies are sick. Sending love to you and your babies. Rainbow High dolls are cute. I picked up a couple o them, too. I was impressed by the quality, especially since the quality of so many of the new Barbie dolls has tanked. Though, I do like the new Signature Looks Barbies with the made-to-move bodies. (But the Fashionista line is just sad now. I remember when the Fashionista dolls were all articulated and had great clothes and accessories.) The pandemic has been so awful! So many businesses have closed here. Do you think you will be going to the BJD Con in October? Wow Stellarphenomena! She's awesome! Is she a D.C. Comics character?
I live the RH dolls but they're inconsistent with the "likeableness" of the outfits. Like I want the first generation red hair doll (she's the only one I don't have from that line) but I think BOTH outfits she comes with are terrible so I haven't bought her because I do want her to stay true to her color. Like the green doll, I did not like the "track suit" she came in, but her second outfit was really cute so she changed into that and looks great. I don't have any of the cheer squad dolls because I don't like the "tattoos" on the faces and I'm sure they could be removed but then I think I'd ruin the rest of the face up and then wouldn't want the dolls. So far I've only got the purple and blue winter scene dolls for the new line up. And again I'm not impressed with either outfit for the red doll The Tx trip has long been paid for and we're going unless they cancel it again, which is a big possibility because of the spread of the delta variant. If they cancel it, I'll be 2 years without a vacation and I'm really feeling it. I was struggling to make it to June when it was originally scheduled and then they postponed it to Oct. If they cancel it again, I'm not sure what I'll do.
Mu Shu, I agree with you. I wasn't crazy about the Cheer Leader versions. The first wave was cute, but not sure if I will be buying any more of them. Like I told Stellarphenomena, I'm really hitting critical mass in my doll room. For your sake, I sure hope they don't cancel the doll convention again. I can't imagine going without a vacation for two years! Hopefully, it sounds like people are getting the hint, with the rapid spread of this Delta Variant, that they need to get vaccinated, or we'll be in lock-down again. I found a dress for my new red-headed 2.0 Tyler. I hope to get a picture up soon!
I'm kind of nervous about the convention now as I received an email from the hotel (Omni) that they have been sold and as of next month will change ownership (have been unable to find out WHO bought the hotel). While they said nothing would change with my reservation, I will be loosing all the points/perks from being a member for this stay. Makes me nervous about the meals and stuff the hotel usually does/provides for the convention. I did contact the convention leaders and they said everything was still good and they had just been at the hotel last week. As the delta variant continues to spread though, I'm not having a lot of hope that this convention will happen. I just see us getting locked down again. I hear you on the critical mass of dolls though! I have sold some of my older ones (painful but need the money) like a CP DES, Leeke World and MYou. Going to part with some Tonner American Models (not wanting too) and some Deeanna Dentons/Peggy Harcourts as I know they'll bring money too. I've been lucky though that no new resin dolls have grabbed my attention but I am seriously wanting a few long retired American Girl dolls but their prices are too steep for me.
Yes, the last post was Sister Dreary, redressed. And here's Agnes Dreary, redressed also, but I like her as a hobo hippie chile, she may seem dreary, but that's because she's a seeking soul in an indecipherable world. Mu Shu, I hope everything works out for you with the convention. Your convention leaders sound reassuring, so hopefully everything will be okay. Sorry to hear you have to sell some dolls. I know I should, too. I need to wrangle my doll hoard into a more cohesive collection, just for the sake of dwindling space. Valdemagra, your girl looks so cool in her retro-outfit. I love the Hippie-Mod era! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And, here's a little spam of my Charlotte. I think she is so pretty! I've been eye-balling a Charlotte on Ebay with platinum blond hair and denim jeans. I'm so tempted! She's actually prettier in the seller's photos on Ebay than in the Tonner Company photo below.
Can I post some Effenbee girls here, too? And ladies, these are some lovely, well-lit close-ups! I wish my pics could be as clear and bright, but I've not a quality camera.
@Rabbit-moon: Your Radiant in Ruby(?) Charlotte is very pretty. You should get Tres Chic Denim, she's awesome! I like all the Charlotte dolls except not too fond of the more recent pop culture ones.
IMG_20210804_211525_hdr by Dawn Coulombe, on Flickr Brenda Star. Such a great outfit; fully lined, the fabric of the gold pants are almost tissue.
Thank you, Stellarphenomena! Yes, she is a Radiant in Red Charlotte. I found her nude for an excellent price a few years ago. I would love to find her original dress someday. I really love this doll; she is such a high-color beauty. Honestly, she is one doll I will never part with. Oh! You little enabler you! Thanks for the encouragement! The Tre Chic Denim Charlotte certainly would look great next to my dark-haired Charlotte. Hmm...I do have a birthday coming up, so I think I'll drop a few hints to my hubby. I'm so devious... Would to see pictures of your Charlottes! Valdemagra, your Brenda is so pretty! That outfit is gorgeous. I was a big fan of the Daphne doll in that line.
Charlotte is definitely a beautiful sculpt. I only have my Radiant in Red Charlotte left Radiant in Red Charlotte par Mu Shu, on ipernity Dark hair and red lips, is there anything better! @Valdemagra - I love the Brenda Starr line
@Mu Shu Gee, those earrings really work. Is it possible to get a close-up? Curious if I can make something like them? This little lady has no box. I'm not sure who she is, but she has knee and elbow joints if I remember right. (Packed her up after the photo, she's been hanging out on the mantle too long. My boyfriend likes her there!) IMG_20210804_213734_hdr_kindlephoto-195808963 by Dawn Coulombe, on Flickr
@Valdemagra - she reminds me of Red Hot Tyler Red Hot Tyler Wentworth convention doll 2004 (3) par Mu Shu, on ipernity I'll see if I can get a close up of Charlotte's earrings.
Has anyone used the patterns available for Tonners? IMG_20210808_135848_hdr_kindlephoto-94881455 by Dawn Coulombe, on Flickr
Mu Shu, your Charlotte is gorgeous! She is definitely a keeper! I agree with Mu Shu. She looks like a Red Hot Tyler to me, as well.
@MaleficentMrsofEvil . Yes, they may still be available? I've never used them and wondered if someone had. I think there were others in the series. I just have these 3. McCall's & Simplicity Patterns for 15-1/2 Inch Fashion | Etsy Calling all Tonner Doll lovers: Goodwill.com is selling a large collection of Tonners Gone With the Wind series. Many in boxes. I can't afford the investment right now. But wow, check it out! Each one starts at $40 and free shipping.
Hi all, Thought I would start a new line of posts about Tonner licensed products, which he has had quite a few of! From DC, Marvel, movies, TV series...etc. What dolls do you have? This is of course Harley Quinn (in carnival jester costume). You may see a similarity with the Cinderella and Cami dolls Look how paper white her whole body is.
@stellarphenomena She’s gorgeous! I love that sculpt and the outfit is amazing. Unfortunately, none of my Tonners are licensed dolls. But I did love the Wonder Woman dolls.
@brightberry: Thanks. Tonner did a lot of WW dolls, ones that looked like Lynda Carter, Gal Gadot, the Tyler 2.0 sculpts, American model WW and more! Which was your fave? Mine was the Steampunk Wonder Woman.
@stellarphenomena One of my favorites was Gal Gadot but I also loved the Steampunk version. They’re both beautiful.
I've only one old Haute Doll Mag, but the issue has a pattern for a pretty bjd corset and a many page spread on Volks. It was this article that made me feel bjds were too exclusive and expensive and so I continued to collect Compos for long after. Is there some property infringement of I were to share the pattern, I wonder?
Wow! Stellarphenomena, I remember that Haute Doll cover from 2006. Sydney was so beautiful on that cover. Back then, Sydney was my favorite Tonner doll. I sure miss Haute Doll Magazine. I used to subscribe to it. I was so bummed when they discontinued the magazine. I'm sorry now that I didn't keep my old copies. Back in the day, I use to buy Barbie Bazaar and Millers Fashion Doll Magazines. They were fun to read, but they are long gone, too. I know Fashion Doll Quarterly also bit-the-dust. I kinda miss them, but they had this ridiculous policy of not including Asian BJDs, unless they were Volks. They only wanted to promoted American doll makers. I know Tonner use to get a lot of print with them. Stellarphenomena, I don't recognize that Sydney. She's so pretty! What year is she from?
@Rabbit-moon: Thanks! She is also from 2006. I kept a small stack of various doll magazines! Really glad I kept all my Tonner dolls too.
I did everyone of those mags and couldn't wait for new issues to come out! It's such a shame they are gone because they were such good quality print magazines. Wish I'd kept my copies of Haute doll, Barbie Bazaar and FDQ. I get dolls magazine now but it's just not really on the same level as any of these magazines were. @stellarphenomena - gorgeous Sydney. She is still my favorite Tonner sculpt, followed closely by Daphne Dimples and Deeanna Denton. I need to downsize more dolls (also need the $$ for car repairs) but I've listed all the Tonner's that I'm ready or ok to part with (and they have almost paid for all the car repairs). I know ones I've kept would really bring in big bucks but I just can't let them go, I know I'll regret sorely if I do. Same goes for resin dolls, I think I've parted with what I'm comfortable with right now even though I have a good solid 7-8 msd size dolls that don't get messed with but I always get a bad feeling if I pick one out to list so have decided that is me telling myself "not yet".
I'm so glad it's not just me. Got my first issue of Dolls magazine, and woof. The writing. So bad. So baaaaaad.
Wow! What a beauty, Stellarphenomena! She looks so regal in that outfit. That is a seriously awesome Tyler. Her make-up is so intense on that white skin. She'd make a great vampire queen. Mu Shu, yes, all those magazine were so great. I really miss them. Looks like printed media has just gone the way of the DoDo bird. Or maybe the whole doll scene has changed so radically over the years. There used to be so many dolls! And, so many doll shops. But, they seem to be gone. No more Gene Marshall, or The Mod British Birds: Willow and Daisy, or Horsman's Vita, or even Madame Alexader's Alex. And, of course, Tonner isn't making dolls like he used to. I think (not sure) that Jason Wu, Integrity Toys, still put out a 16" Poppy Parker, occasionally, but I don't know of any others. I guess 16" fashion dolls are a relic of the past. Stellarphenomena, Miette is . I'm not familiar with this doll. What line did she belong to?
