Hello everyone!! I actually have a Tonner collection hehe they actually got me back into BJD after collecting for a year or so (I took a few years break from doll collecting)
Here are some older photos and I forget the molds lol. One of them is a Tonner Halloween release! Both repainted and partial reroot :

Thank you so much!! Yes I did! The Halloween event Tonner (the male silver haired doll) was pretty badly damaged when I got him and I also repaired him and made him good as new!
I also have a Tonner Cami I painted and restyled too! She is one of my fave dolls I wish Tonner released more dolls in the Antoinette body!

 

@Jeong132 - Cami is such a great sculpt and what a wonderful look you gave her!

@stellarphenomena She's in amazing condition! She was one of the dolls that came in langerie, that's all I know...I think they may have had model in their title? And thank you! The dress was made by the same friend who gifted her to me. It's actually functional in the sense that it can be worn multiple ways like the human size versions can. :3

I always thought Ellowyne was pretty, but I never collected her. So, I can't really tell if she's all that different from the original Ellowynes. She's still very pretty. I like the first doll in the black dress with red hair. Those red lips are to die for!

Yes, I'd be a little hesitant about the face-ups, too, especially after how awful the Rayne face-ups were.

 

I had heard there was going to be a re-release of Ellowyne but never knew the date. I really like the one in the green dress. I like that they are painted faces and they all look nice in the photos but I really like buying mine in person because there are those differences in the face paint on each doll even though they're supposed to be "factory". I've seen ones with the eyes off center, cheek blush up into the eyes or down around the jaw line, etc. I think she's a bit pricey at $250 though.

When I just started collecting dolls was when Robert Tonner announced his retirement. At the time, I only cared about Barbie and ignored the lines entirely. Funny how BJDs renewed my interest in Tonners.

Anyway, I have one 16-inch fashion doll (blonde with green eyes), and I have no idea what or who she is. I have a Phyn and Aero Rayne (that’s Tonner too - right?) on layaway, and I think I want one more.

What is a good price for a Tonner fashion (16 inch) doll? Is the company still making dolls? Where (besides Doll Peddlar and eBay scalpers) can you find Tonner dolls? Where do you get your information on Tonner dolls?

@stellarphenomena - I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees anything close to $250 as BJD money.

@MaleficentMrsofEvil - stellarphenomena listed a whole lot of great info above, even a couple I didn't know about. Like you, I started out with Barbie. I've since sold off all my boxed Barbie's but do have about 30 "models" that display various outfits around the doll collection (most of these were bought used at thrift stores or off eBay that I thought just really had pretty faces and I liked looking at them. You can get some really stellar nude Barbie's for awesome prices). I had always thought Tonner dolls were too tall/big (compared to Barbie anyways). But then I found BJD's and suddenly Tonner dolls weren't too big and I started collecting many of them. Now a lot of that collection has been sold off as well although I kept most of the Daphne Dimples dolls, several Sydney's and Deeanna Denton's. You can still get some for really good prices on eBay, you just have to really stalk those auctions or be "at the right time" to nab a BIN with a low price. It does happen. I sold mine on eBay and they all had a starting point of $19.99. I figured whatever they sell for that's what I get but at least someone else will have had an opportunity to enjoy the dolls without highway robbery prices! There are a couple of Tonner dolls that I would still like to own but their prices are normally closer to the $500 and I won't do that.

 

Oh wow, lot of info about Ellowyne Wilde, I had no idea. I have 2 of the older ones, I like them, but don't do a lot with them.

I have a tonner doll and almost continued to collect them but then completely switched over to resin. I debated selling her but it’s nice to have a bit of variety in a collection (I have all sorts of other dolls from the past).

So I keep coming back to this thread because of all the great info here, and I realized the Rayne I have on layaway is the same one y'all were saying has a terrible face up - and I totally agree. I'm planning on repainting her when I receive her.
Just in case y'all thought I didn't read the previous thread.

Question - does anyone else find some of the Tonner faces to be a little... square?

Yes, I think so. My favorite sculpt by Robert, the Tyler 2.0, is very square-jawed. But, for me, it works.

 

I just received my Rayne, and holy guacamole - no lies detected. I have seen more detailed face ups on a damn $5 Barbie doll. She is beautiful generally, but dude - Tonner totally phoned this one in. The face paint is just - it's worse than dollar store quality, y'all. It's sharpie and MSC level face detail.

I'll take pics and post later. I'm not mad/sad that I bought her - but someone at the Tonner doll company has some serious apologizing to do. If this was my first introduction into Tonner dolls, I would have never even considered buying another.

 

I've seen the Rayne doll in person and thought he really missed the mark on that one as the face paint was horrendous. I didn't really care for any of the VERY pricey clothes originally offered for her either. But some custom ones have really been stunning.

Only 1 doll without blue eyes! I actually like all of them except the one with wine colored hair and red lips. She needs dark brownish/black eyebrows and dark, dark hair to go with those lips!!! I do think the 2 on the left are very pretty soft pallets of colors and more for casual and everyday outfits vs glamorous outfits.

Sorry about your Rayne, MaleficentMrsoEvil. I was afraid that would be the case with her face-up. After all the beautiful dolls he's made, it's puzzling that Robert let this new girl look so shabby. (Although, now that I'm thinking about it, I still have my Ice Blue Sydney with the wonky eyes.)

I don't know how I missed this but Robert also reissued a new Sydney doll last year and called her Grace Marie? She's listed in the Dreamcastle Dolls Tonner Reference pages under Sydney. She was sold on-line through Virtual Doll Convention. It looks like she's still available in a fullset deluxe model. She's kinda pricey though, and her expression looks kind of off.

I love Sydney but this one does that sculpt no justice at all! I do not think she is worth that price even for the fullset.
