Hello, I like to always have a doll in hand even on vacations. I do not show them to my family, it's my secret garden (with you!), But this year, in Italy, I dared to go out my littlefee in public! Maybe because no one knows me abroad! I had my realpuki, easy to take in a handbag, but finally it is the 1/6 the most photogenic and in my bag wrapped in bubble paper no worries. I will not take the risk with msd, and it requires more organization. You may think that this is ridiculous, but i love have one doll with me All the time, like a blanket. It would largely depend on how long I'm gone, how far I'm traveling, and if I'm staying somewhere maids are likely to come in and clean. If I'm gone a long time but I'm close to home and in something like a cabin that only me/friends/family can access, then I'll bring them. If I'm gone a short time I likely wouldn't bother. If I'm traveling and going to be out a lot then I also wouldn't bother. I have a major issue with other people torching my stuff though... and when I was a kid we went to Disneyland and stayed in a hotel there. I know they where just trying to be nice, but they set up this amazing display with my plushies that I had at the time. I was young so it made me cry, as I have always been fairly shy and it bothered me that they used my stuff without my permission. Nice thought, but it bothers me when people don't think about how they might be invading other peoples personal space. So I'll never bring anything personal to a hotel unless I have too.
We took our SDs and MSDs on vacation with us to the beach this last year. My parents thought my wife and I were nuts for packing them up in the car. Although we didn't get them out the whole time, we did take lots of pictures that turned out very pretty. I probably wouldn't do it again, though. Or if I did, I'd only take one MSD like Zenith, who already goes everywhere with me. It was a little stressful trying to keep the bouncing doggo and the kiddos away from them.
it depends on where i was going....it also depends on whether i would have time to play with my dolls (know like take pics and stuff) and ive already decide when i get my doll and descent carrier i'm bringing him to the hospital with me (its not exactly a holiday but still ) i wonder if i could get some pics in the hospital gardens.....
I would love to bring them on vacation but all my dolls are over 60 cm so it is too heavy for me to carry even one around. But I am waiting for a IOS Ciel Phantomhive Erithacus Dress Ver. and I heard that he is rather small and light so I hope I can bring him to my future UK trip this year.
I would take both or one on holiday depending on where I'm going, and how much other stuff I'd be doing on the holiday! Would make for some great shots in a different locations!
I hadn't even considered taking my doll anywhere until I read about it here on DoA. It sounds like fun, and I know my boy would love to tag along with me, rather than sit at home alone! Longer trips (flights, particularly) worry me, though. I don't know that a 65-cm doll would fit comfortably or safely in carry-on luggage, and I'd be a little paranoid packing him in my suitcase. Some new scenery would be pretty great, though.
I haven't been on a real vacation (as in a trip that lasts more than a day or is even out of the state) since I was young. But I am planning to eventually get a little 15-17 cm doll that I can carry around in my purse with me all the time once I figure out what doll to shell the character I have in mind with. So yes, I'd most likely take even a larger doll with me if I went on a trip.
I'd consider it if the vacation was just me and my husband, and mainly for the purpose of taking lots of photos in a new place. However, most of our vacations are big family vacations with the entire extended family in one big house or block of hotel rooms. Too many little kids around, and no down time.
I can't even imagine this right now. One of my dolls just face planted the other day and ended up with a scratch on his cheek. The little bastard has never even left my room! He was sitting on my bed and just... I don't know, had a beer when I wasn't looking? I'm not ready to take my dolls anywhere. Too afraid. I wish I was as brave as you guys. I would LOVE to take pictures in different settings.
I'd probably only take my Lydie (70cm) with me, as she is the most adventurous and well travelled dolls! That is, assuming I ever leave the house. I don't trust myself to keep a good eye on my tiny dolls, and overall I just think big dolls look better in photos.
I see people taking pictures of their dollfies on trips all the time, especially in Japan. I get so jealous! Considering I have a lot of doll-oriented locations in mind, I think I would take Mirai with me.
(I'm so silly) How do you transport your dolls? Where have your dolls been already? I'd love to know everything about it ♥ I'm going to Japan in about three weeks and I'm not sure if I should take my Littlefee with me or not u///u I would really like to take some photos there with her but on the other hand I'm scared that she get's stolen or damaged o///<
Wow I would definetely take her with me! in Japan it's most likely that someone gives it back to you if you lose her, it's not common to see pickpockets or similar. I would always make her wear something with your contact info, like a necklace or something stuck somewhere, just in case. But I would totally go for it!
@Naisha Thank you for your answer ♥ I'll definetly follow your advice with the necklace! That's a really good idea ♥
Issun, my 11cm Elf Elly Banji, usually travels with me. He hangs out in a padded, oversized sunglasses case, which keeps him from getting banged around in transit. The little guy's been all over the US, to Canada and to China with me. In a week or so, he'll be joining me on a trip to Japan and South Korea. He's a pretty well-travelled dude. XD
I've brought Shiwoo a number of different places. He's old and already damaged, so I'm not as concerned with him as I am with some of my other dolls. In march he came to the Dominican Republic with me and made for some funny pictures with how the room cleaners posed him on the bed. XD
I brought a couple of MSDs across the country when I was visiting friends in Oregon a couple of years ago. One of them was packed up in a cushion in my carry-on and the other was seated in my "purse" (aka the bag in the luggage set designed to fit under the seat). They both made the trip just fine and both stayed at my friends' house the whole time, but as they're collectors, too, half the fun of bringing them there was "introducing" our dolls I'm going back again this summer and we're all going to Resin Rose, so I have to bring dolls with me! The hardest part is deciding which ones
I'm going to UK next week with my family and my SD girl. I just want to know if anyone has ever taken pictures in historical buildings e.g The Tower of London or inside a museum or church (of course ONLY when photography is allowed!) ?? Is that OK to do some quick shoots in those tourist spots? I will not use flashlight and tripod...I brought my doll to Japan once and took some pictures in shrines and it was completely fine...but it's Japan ^_^ Europe might work in a different way. I'm not sure if I'd be swept out of the building for that...
I would love to bring a doll, with me on a trip and take awesome pictures with it. But I don travel a lot maybe only once or twice a year with my family. If not BJD I'll bring a diff doll which I wouldn't mind damaging or getting lost.
Ahh id love to take them on holidays, especially to disneyland. disney is my most favorite place in the world (its the happiest place in the world duh), and i feel like dolls would be really fitting there for some reason. But id take them anywhere I am really. I now have a fear of losing my dolls while im away, so next time ill just take them with me regardless.
I love the idea of it and think about it every time I travel. However I'm always afraid one of them getting lost or damaged. I almost brought my resin soul boy with me on the extended vacation in on right now, but I'm so happy I didn't because TSA actually broke my bag! I'm shocked the bottle of wine I brought made it, but I would have had heart failure if he was in there and my bag came off the belt the way it did. Sure, I could have put him in my carryon but I've had airlines throw that under the plane and break my things at boarding too. It's a real shame. I could have taken some really awesome pictures with him here. Maybe I'll take him on my text road trip, but planes are too scary.
i usually use a outting bag( i dont exactly know what it is called) or just use a tripod bag to carry my dolls around
I always take them on vacations, my dolls have each traveled with me to Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, the US and Canada. However, I did not take Volks SD17 Ryoma Sakamoto with me when I visited Ryoma shrine in Kyoto (Kyoto Ryozen Gokoku Shrine). I went backpacking to view Cherry Blossoms, I stayed in inns and hostels, security was a concern. I felt a sense of deep regret as I climbed up to the shrine without Ryoma and Kenshin (F38). A Japanese family who guided me to the shrine that day felt that I should have brought the 2 dolls, both Ryoma and Kenshin, not just Ryoma. Even if I had to carry them up the hill, I should! I let out a laugh in shock, I almost told them that I am after all, not Japanese and my level of loyalty to the Ishin Shishi is not the same as that of a Japanese. I won't carry two SD17 dolls up that shrine! Of course, I was courteous not to say that to my guides but I was sorry I did not bring Ryoma and Kenshin. I now make it my ambition to one day visit Sendai and bring SDGr Date Masamune with me to Date's shrine. Last week, I managed to acquire Date Masamune in the Volks web event, this should be the first step to realizing my goal. Now, I have to save money, I won't be backpacking this time. I will visit the beautiful Matsushima islands one day with Date. Here's Henry Reisner at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown Pennsylvania.
Yes! I almost always take one of my dolls when I travel (I have even taken 3 of my girls on a business trip with me). Although I am super paranoid about something happening to them I want to take pictures of them in fun places instead of them always being in my apartment so on vacation they go.
Actually, I do. I purchased a doll-carrying-bag for my 70cm SD boy and took him with me on my last trip to italy a few days ago. I didn't want to miss the chance to take photos with him. It felt good to have him with me, but it is really hard to take the big dolls on a journey xD I plan on taking a smaller doll with me next time. I hope I'll be able to attend Ldoll this year and I am definitely going to take one of my dolls with me (Hopefully Skully when she arrives in time )
i would be terrified lol ..... getting lost, damaged, stolen, all three .... especially if you're traveling to a foreign country where there's even less chance than the already small percentage you have of getting a stolen or lost doll back they're just too expensive and fragile for me to be anything but afraid about them lol. buuuuuuuuut ..... i think it would be tonnes of fun .... and id like to, maybe, if i can ever work up the courage <:3 maybe when i can finally get my bigger dolls out of storage i'll scrape up the will to take them outside to somewhere closer. where i live there are a lot of gardens, victorian cemeteries, historical monuments, etc within fairly easy reach--even a rocky beach a few minutes' walk away! so lots of photo opportunities if i wasn't such a coward about it lol.
Unfortunately when I have holidays, it's to visit family. My husband's family. As much as I love his family they have a very "if we don't think it's important, it's not and we will act accordingly" attitude. I don't know why and they have apologized in the past for stepping all over my boundaries when it comes to my dolls, but I've learned that a couple of nice photos isn't worth my dolls safety. Though, if it were just me and my husband on an actual holiday together I would love to take at least the tinies with me.
I have thought about it! I have a pukifee that I could transport easily so she’d be a good candidate. The only trouble would be me worrying about them getting damaged haha... also I don’t know how much time I’d have to dedicate to taking pictures of my dolls. All that stress would be for nothing. If I was traveling to meet up with a friend that also has dolls I’d definitely make the effort. It would be sooooo much fun to take pictures together with two times the dolls!!
I absolutely will, primarily for pictures. I'm already planning on taking Autumn (5StarDolls Elaine) with me to Arizona when I go to visit my girlfriend specifically to take photos of her when we drive up to New Mexico to visit the Meow Wolf gallery.
I haven't brought my dolls on holiday as of yet because I haven't been able to get clothes for them before I was able to leave. (And I don't want to drag my ladies with me when they're half-naked!) This holiday season I expect to have at least one of my ladies ready for travel, so I'm looking into how to safely wrap her during flight/transit. Going to bring her on a carry-on but am looking into different types of cases for MSDs so she won't get damaged.
When mine's finished, I might take her along to conventions if there's a doll meet/panel scheduled, but since most of my other vacations are family affairs, I would not trust my little cousins (and most especially not trust the niece that's due in January) around expensive objects that could be mistaken for playthings.
I plan on taking my doll to Vancouver with me this winter but I don't have a carrier bag yet so I'm a little worried about how to take my doll with me on the flight. Also right now I only have one doll but when I get my other Bory, it will be hard to decide if I take one or both on trips with me.
Not quite a holiday I guess but I have a surgery coming up soon that's out of state and best believe I will be paying extra for carry on bags to take all my dolls with me lol. I also want to take travel photos with them and do a little bit of photography with them in the new state before the surgery so I think it will be worth lugging them along. Of course I'd also take them on any other trips I went on too! Or at least some of them.
So my family and I are going to New York in a few weeks, and half of me wants to bring my girl with me for the amazing photo opportunities, while the other half does not want to risk her getting stolen or damaged. Would you take yours with you on vacation?
Yes! I wouldn't pass up the opportunity! If your fear is only with them being lost or broken, dont let that stop you. I'm assuming this will be your first stim traveling with dolls so travel light. Maybe 1 and a smaller size to make it easy. Wrap everyone nice and tight and grab a soft blanket or pillow for catching dolls if they fall during shoots. Get a carrying case that can be locked and keep an eye on it just like you would any other personal belonging.
I'd say it depends on your girl! If she's a limited that can't be replaced, then nope. If she's large...then probably not, because the point of a vacation is to have fun, not to be constantly worrying and fiddling with an oversize doll. But if she's a tiny or a mini, then go for it! They're easy to carry and fun to photograph in new and interesting locations. Just...don't leave her sitting on a park bench somewhere because you got distracted by something shiny.
I'm bringing both my SD Liam and my YOSD Ludo back home to Michigan for my winter holiday. They'll both be flying with me, I'm likely going to pack securely in my carry-on and have my tiny be my personal item and just carry her in my hands. I;m not concerned at all about it.
I have taken dolls on vacation from trips to Disney World to camping trips with lots of hiking. They have been to East to West from Florida to across Canada. I never regretted taking a doll on vacation, but I would be careful in a city, especially if crowded.
I always bring a doll or two with me when I travel. It's fun to be able to take pictures of them while on a trip. Many of my trips are to see my parents so I don't mind bringing a couple of big guys with me because I know they're safe at my parents' house. On trips where we're staying in hotels, I bring a smaller doll that I can keep with me at all times. My Harucasting Adori went with me to Chicago and Philadelphia last summer.
Yes! Well...yes, depending. If your doll is extremely rare/valuable or has a lot of easily damaged or lost parts, then no. It's not much fun to constantly be checking to be fantasy parts aren't damaged or full set pieces or accessories haven't fallen off somewhere or taking ages to set up for a photoshoot. But if your doll is more of a "hands on" type doll than display piece, sure! I'd say dress them as casually as you can, don't take accessories or props that could get lost, maybe only take one doll who is easy to carry. They do get heavy! It also helps if you have a safe place to leave them if you don't feel like taking them everywhere every day, like a family member or friend's home, or the safe box in a hotel. I have taken dolls to the mountains, to the beach, big cities, camping, to visit friends and more. Usually, I only take one, but a couple of times I took about 20 to visit a friend in the hobby. It was fun at her house, but the transport was not fun at all, and I kinda don't recommend it!
I've taken one 62cm boy on a number of trips and his size never bothered me. I just hang my camera case diagonally so it rests in front of my left hip and have him sit on it, then crook my arm around him. That way the strap/my shoulder takes the weight, not the arm-muscles. But most of the places we go aren't crowded. I don't think I'd try to take photos of a doll in some place like NYC, just because I'd expect either other people to get in my way or vice versa.
I don't usually; I've taken them to Disney and Dragoncon before, but both of those are in driving distance of me. I just don't think I'd have the time to play with them properly. I'm debating taking my Dollfie Dream with me when we go to Japan in a few years because she's light and won't need as much padding as one of my resin Volks babies...but considering I might be buying a Dollfie Dream there (and possibly a Smartdoll, and Azone, and something from Mandrake...) they might take up too much space.
I was going to take my 1/8 girl with me and my husband when we went away this year but I got to worried about her getting damaged or lost >.< I would love to take her out places for photos but also a bit worried / nervous about other people's reactions which is a shame because there are some lovely places that would make for great pictures.
I really want to take one of my boys( definitely not my most cherished boys) out on my next trip for some nice photo shooting. But taking a big boy out is really troublesome.
Honestly I can't afford to go abroad, so road trips and hotels are my way of a break, but I definitely would take Lumina with me! I couldn't leave her for a few days
I have always thought "NO", but now there's been talking with me and my man and we have made a decision that I will apply for a five-month exchange in Austria for spring 2021 (and I'd love to go no since in no other phase of your life does government pay you to travel and study a language lol). In my faculty basically anyone who applies gets to go. My man has a business and he wants to come with me to work from home there. We would rent our apartment to some friend for that time, so my dolls could not stay here. Now I have a few so obviously most of them will still be packed away and put to storage, but I thought I could bring with me one lady that I have bonding and character issues with, if she's still with me then. I've never taken my current dolls outdoors, but I don't like her too pink colour anyway and would love if she yellowed a little. After that trip we'll surely be closer if we are ever meant to be. Even losing or accidentally damaging her wouldn't make me so sad, since she is the only doll that is unlimited edition and in that matter she is "only money" to me, although that money too was taken from something else. She is a SD size so surely I will still not carry her around the city much, but I'm sure I'll learn something about the experience.
Actually, the furthest trip I've taken since I moved out on my own was specifically to a bjd convention, so it was only right that he tagged along... Never mind that I specifically bought him when I did so he could attend in the first place, haha. We have a trip overseas planned for the end of this coming February and I've already decided that my little bitty Dream Valley Loxy will be going on an adventure as well, safely tucked away in his box in my "personal item" bag to keep from being bashed around or, worse yet, lost. ... Now to just get around to finishing him before the trip.
If im going to a convention, or a holiday where i will meet other doll owners -- there is no other option than to bring them. If i am going on a holiday and i dont know if there will be other doll owners, or i am travelling a lot, or just that i wouldnt have time or space, then they would stay home. I went to Japan for 3 weeks a couple years ago, and had not much space there and NO space coming back, like i dont even know if there was air in there.. hah... I didnt bring mikami or any of my others i had as im sure i would have damaged him in some way as even my backpack was jampacked. Last con i went to, i brought my Yosd and my SD65... that was the first time i travelled with a tiny. what a difference weight and space wise... but i wouldnt leave my main guy home if i can help it. I was also able to bring my boy to the CN Tower for photos.. did that with friends and then him to make good memories, love the way the photos turned out.
I've often thought of doing so, but it just seems like a lot of extra trouble. It was hard enough hauling my luggage around cities and airports and trains. Doing that with a somewhat delicate and very important possession that takes up a lot of room just seemed awful. I'd also have a hard time enjoying the city I was in if I had to constantly be worrying about this doll or setting him up for photos. Plus, he's so small that I'm not sure a photo in a different city would look particularly different from one in my own. I admire people who do, though. It's cool to see other people's pictures and I imagine it would be easier in different circumstances.
Hm, never thought of doing that actually! My only bjd is a mini so it's not hard to bring her along, but she was super expensive as a limited secondhand so the thought scares me, don't think I should :< it could be awesome to photograph her in new locations, like the beach for example, but I'd worry way too much about anything happening to her! So no I don't think I could.
I think the only time I would travel with my dolls is to take them to conventions or meet-ups, or like on a day trip where we could go out and return safely home that night, otherwise I think I would worry about them! As for longer or international trips, I think I would have to have a plan already in place about when I would take them out and where. And they'd have to be encased in something that would for sure not let them get damaged! I know they're not chocolate Santas, but I'd worry about them being crushed all the same. So, in other words, yes for short trips and usually no for longer trips!
I haven't yet. I'm not even comfortable taking any of them outside at the moment. I'd like to travel with one someday, but for now it just feels like too much of a risk given how valuable dolls are.
I take them almost everywhere - to work, historical reenactments, science fiction conventions, holidays, visiting friends and family... I took two of them to San Franciscoon my honeymoon, although I only took pictures of them in the Japanese Tea Gardens in Golden Gate Park, and at the base of a redwood in Muir Woods: Teddy
