Do you take along your dolls on holiday?

Jun 8, 2014

1. somehow it only was just a joke to take a pitcure of my Eid Tedros beside my boardcase

but I wonder: do you take along your dolls on holiday to make beautiful picture?
so come on and start posting your holiday pics

2. I've thought about it, but I don't think I'd want to stress over getting my dolls dirty or lost or damaged. Plus I absolutely hate having to carry more things with me than necessary (I refuse to have a big purse and I got a micro 4/3rd camera instead of a DSLR because they're smaller). Also I travel a lot with mainly friends and they don't know about the hobby so I rather just leaves things be... maybe in the future if I have a significant other and I travel with him, then I may brave bringing a doll along...

3. think its a good chance to make some "real" pictures with a wonderful background. I see so many photoshopped pictures on facebook and pages like flickr and I think its not the same "honesty" like taking along your dolls to various places. But I would ever prefer to take along an MSD cause .... If I took along my EID Tedros on holiday he needed an own boardcase to travel- LOL. Sorry airport security but why are you astonished I take along a sexy guy as hand luggage? LOL

4. I do! Unless it's a trip where I feel the doll won't be safe.

In fact, Ben and I just got back from a visit to the Tallahatchi Bridge last week! Not the best pic of the bridge, but Ben needed to find some shade. It was hot and sunny!

5. what a cute guy :)

6. I like the concept of taking a doll with and photographing them in a foreign locale, but I am not actually interested in traveling with anything besides my essentials... I don't want more luggage than I absolutely must have.

7. I just recently learned that I won a scholarship to conduct research in London England, and I am absolutely bringing my not-yet-here Rosette, who hails from the dark, dingy streets of Victorian London. There is NO way I can pass up the opportunity to get pictures of her in the city her character lives in!
As for my other girl, she will just have to wait until I go to Ireland to get her chance. But for the time being, there are tons of magical forests here in Canada, so we'll just have to make do

8. I don't think I would right now. But I would take them to conventions when I am ready to go.

9. I have brought one or two dolls with me when I travel to family for holidays. I enjoy having them with me for pictures, and they give me something to do during the downtime that always seems to happen during family get-togethers. The times I've brought them with me on vacation, I travelled by car. If I were travelling by plane, I might rethink bringing them along.

10. I have. I took my mermaid to the beach and to the aquarium when we were there. I had too, we were at the beach!

11. I'm not really certain. I know I'd love to be able to, but seeing as I've never seen one of these dolls in person, let alone held one to know how durable they are, I am not sure if I'd be willing to risk damage during travel. I'd have to know that the risk was minimal.

12. I always take a doll on holiday! Always fun to get pics different places.

13. Gahhh I would if I could!! Especially if I was going to Japan! I would miss them if I went away. But then I am scared of damaging them :/

14. I really love the idea of taking pictures of my BJDs in different locales on a trip. It would be great to do a photo story of the trip form the POV of the doll. It could be like a BJD version of that traveling gnome thing where they took a lawn gnome all over the world and took pictures of it standing in different cool locations. But I have to admit I'd be really nervous to get it damaged or lost or something. It might work with a really tiny BJD like a pukiFee or my Resinsoul Dian. He'd be easy to transport.

15. I don't go to holiday's very often but I want to. I have at least planed to go with my Doll to my parents while holidays maybe I go with the Doll to another places too to take some nice pictures I will actually see. :XD:

16. I just moved to Japan as an ALT. My girl came with me. I'm taking it slow though, taking her outside. Im planning a Tokyo trip for summer, so maybe I'll take pictures then. And at universal studios in Osaka.

17. I don't take my dolls with me. They're waiting for me at home :)

18. I'd only take tinies or YoSDs with me. Traveling could really be fun with dolls but I don't want to carry anything too heavy that might also break during the trip. Tinies and YoSDs are much easier to pack and much lighter. ^^

19. I take at least a small one. Anyway, even when traveling light I have knitting projects with me or I get bored at night so I might as well have a doll to knit for!

20. I would love to, but I would be afraid they would get lost or damaged. Plus that's one more thing I have to carry around, and worry about on a trip. A tiny or Yosd would probably worry me less.

21. Yes, especially when I plan to go places with great environment.
It may be a bit troublesome in the airport and on plane. It worth the effort!

22. I've taken dolls on vacation. Only MSD's and tinies just due to size restrictions. Haniel (Cherish Chubby Demon) came with me to the Bahamas.

I've also brought an MSD and 2 tinies with me to Colorado although, funny enough, the only pictures I got of them was at the airport as I was waiting for my flight home *laughs*. I've also brought... 3 MSD's and a tiny went I went to visit my mom, which required a 2 hour train ride.

I'm going to the Dollism con in September in Buffalo and I'm STILL undecided who's coming with me on that adventure (I have 24 to choose from *laughs*). I'd love to bring my big boys, but the idea of riding on public transit for an hour and then on another train for 3 hours while juggling my luggage, purse and big doll bags holding 14lbs or so of resin... it doesn't thrill me much.

23. I do but not every time. I took Ren (SD size) and Fayy (MSD size) to a lake and mountains once, then sometime to park, garden, etc... And this summer vacation I'm going to take Ren to Thailand with me for a trip. (^v^) Anyway, I'm also afraid that they will yellow or get damage during transporting. So I have to prepare well, especially my arm's power!!! 'Cause they are heavy...

24. I haven't yet, but I definitely want to :) It would depend on where I go though. If it's somewhere scenic, then I wouldn't want to pass up the opportunity for amazing pictures! XD I wouldn't bring more than one doll though, and no more than a couple outfits.

25. Yes, I do! I collect the tinies so they easily fit into an eyeglass case in my handbag. I can fit one pukipuki or 2 realpukis ;-}

26. Depends on the location. I visit my relatives for Christmas, and I bring my dolls there, but I don't really bring them on vacations or overseas.

27. I'm planning on taking them on a trip in my own province first to see how it goes before I take them anywhere really far away. >.<
I'm actually taking one of mine on a trip in August to see my big sister since she likes BJDs so much but has never seen one up close! :D

28. I like to take a tiny or two with me when I go out traveling. It's nice to get some pictures with a change of scenery once in a while. :)

29. Hmm, I think I would like to, someday! So far I've only ever taken him with me when studying abroad, and back and forth from school... But those are only when I'm going to be somewhere for an extended period of time. I did take him along with me on a trip after my study abroad term ended, buttt that was more of a necessity thing than anything else. He stayed in his pillow bag thing the entire time...

I think I would like to take pictures of him in another place someday, though! I think it might be fun :)

30. I've taken my Minifee to family gatherings before, my grandma and little cousin were fascinated by her! That's only 2 hours away by car though, I wouldn't take a MSD on a flight anywhere. I do plan on getting a Pukipuki at the end of the summer and that will definitely come with me when I fly to Florida for Thanksgiving. I would feel much safer taking a tiny on board in a backpack than having an MSD in its own separate case!

31. I wouldn't take a doll on holiday with me, although it would be nice for pictures and stuff.
But I have the tendency to take along too many stuff already.... and I don't like stuffing one in a small backpack between lots of stuff. Or have a doll in a backpack for a whole day in very warm weather whilst visiting foreign culture.
And leaving one behind in a hotel room :shudder oh please no

32. I'm going on a trip by car, so my boy is definitely coming ^-^

33. Hmm I haven't technically brought my dolls with me for holidays (but then again, I haven't traveled anywhere since they've been in my possession). I guess technically flying home to the next province over counts, but he's a tiny and fits in a glasses case so easily protected. I haven't brought my SD boy anywhere aside from conventions, my friends houses, meet ups or the movie theatre.
The only time he air traveled was to the US with my friend who was visiting her mom, and was bringing dolls with her since they both share the hobby. My boy and one of hers are a couple, and her mum wanted to meet them. They pierced his eyes and separated his big toes for me so he can wear his geta sandals now :)

34. I have, but not everywhere. I took one to Canada (drove), and I've taken a few to Texas (flew). I even organized a doll meet-up in Texas once, and was lucky enough to attend another! But I didn't take any to an in-law's wedding. I figure if it's a vacation where I can do what I want, I'll want to see some dolls if possible!

35. Nope, I haven't had a vacation because I had to buy them! :P Actually just because right now I can't go away. Way too much going on on the home front. My Dad has been sick and I'm taking care of him and not feeling too hot myself. So really I'm not up to going anyplace even if my wallet could afford that right now. I'd love to go somewhere cold for the rest of the Summer actually. It's broiling here and I just hate Summer heat and all that...

36. I wouldn't bring them on a vacation but I'd take them on trips. I'd maybe take the smaller ones on vacation but I'd be cautious.

37. Yep. Miss Fior is going to Florida with me this summer!

38. I have taken my dolls on smaller vacation a few times when I knew the doll wouldn't get in the way or if I knew there would be photo opportunities.

39. If I had smaller dolls, I'd definitely take at least one with me. I mean, think of all the interesting photo opportunities!
Unfortunately, I've only got SD sized dolls at the moment, and traveling with them would be too much of a hassle.

40. I wish, but I have 60-cm-ish dolls and am usually traveling with a much more important child! :) And I hate dealing with extra luggage, so it's unlikely to happen anytime soon.

41. I have a 'travel' doll, a 60cm doll. Head was free with another doll purchase and body is a $150 fantasy doll body, so I'm less worried about damage. But this doll has now traveled with me around the US, to Korea, Canada, France and England. I've gotten use to flying with my doll, and there is a thread all about flying with your doll which is a fun read. Taking pictures in various other places/countries is fun. The thing I like best about my travel doll is I have something to do when 'travelling'. I took a ton of pictures of my doll while on the train from France to England. I also have taken pictures waiting in airports or on planes. It's something to do. I may never post the pictures, but it's fun, it passes the time. Now bringing a 60cm is a bit more difficult then a smaller doll, but I also don't recommend tiny (puki puki) dolls. The little magnetic parts from Puki Pukis can get easily lost while travelling. The $1000+ tan skin doll may not be the best doll to travel with. Travel a Doll meetup yes, travel to another country where your going to backpack across it, no. But a Yo would be great for a backpack trip. You flying across the country for a week at your grandparent's that don't have internet, then yes bring your expensive doll, pack it carefully, and you'll have something to do when bored. Personally for the grand parents trip I would pack 2 MSDs, so I can do full stories and adventures and interactions among the dolls (as I would be BORED without internet). So it's really about the type of trip a lot of the time. I've also found that you can find beauty in the most boring location when you look at things from a doll's scale.

42. I always bring Kess (DoD Cham Näbi, 35cm), usually also Tris (KDF Bory, 42cm), and sometimes also two-three more. I need to have some of mine around me (I really miss them otherwise), and I do love getting pictures of them in locations I don't always have access too.
I rarely bring my larger dolls, though; they're much harder to pack, and if I bring them I can't bring as many.

43. I haven't brought a doll yet but I've really wanted to. I want to bring one next year when I go on vacation but I still have the same issue: I travel in kimono and some kimono and obi are just as expensive as the dolls (or more expensive) and 99.9% of them are one of a kind. My favorite ones I pack in a hand carry and being thick silk, they take up a lot of space. I need clothes...I don't have room for dolls! :...( I suppose I don't have to wear kimono for once but that I would be less fun because while I know I can wear kimono out, I'm more wary of taking a doll out. Plus wearing something is less cumbersome than carrying something lol (and I only have 70cm dolls).

44. I brought my boy Floyce with me ❤ he sits with me in the car, so he doesn't cause trouble or worry, and now that we're here I can take gorgeous photos of him!

45. No, I don't take my dolls on vacation. I don't want to damage them. I don't want them to be stolen. If I am flying by plane it is hard enough to keep my luggage weight down and to one piece, which I already have to pay for--without bringing a doll.

I HAVE taken dolls on plane trips to conventions. If one can fit in my carry-on, I will take a doll to GenCon if there is a meetup planned there.

I actually packed up my EID Tedros to go to the BJDC in 2012. He took up an entire suitcase, so it was a VERY BAD IDEA!!!! Particularly considering how checked baggage is thrown around and lost by airlines! Plus, I could barely bring clothes and wouldn't have room to bring anything back with me. I will definitely not do that again!

46. always! we usually drive so i can take several with me in the vehicle, but i just took some of them on the first plane trip since i got into the hobby. my camera bag is a backpack with separate padded compartments for my camera, lenses and dolls and i took them on as carry on. i had to limit myself to smaller dolls this time (yosd and smaller) so they would fit but normally i have soft flute cases so i can take the msd sized ones too. the only thing i don't do is take my limited dolls along, much as i would hate to have to, if anything were to happen to my dolls on holidays i only take ones that could be replaced

47. I still don't have my doll with me (she's on her way to Australia to my boyfie) but I think I wouldn't take her much on my travels since I'd be to afraid of her being damaged/stolen. (Mine is an msd.)

48. I never took a doll to a trip yet but I think it can be a good idea. The only thing that worries me (and most of us, I guess) is safety. And not even flight safety, 'cos one can take a bag with a doll as a carry-on luggage, but a street safety. Or hotel room safety. I would definitely bring my doll with me if I was quite sure that the journey was going to be to a safe place.

49. I do, or I will bring them once I'm able to go on vacations... But yes, I do plan on it. And once I get my little yosd, I might just bring that on with me everywhere.

50. Since I got in to the hobby I never go on vacation without a doll, wigs, and stuff to make more things for the one I chose to go with me. My partner is not a doll person but she understands their value to me and their value in real dollars so she will often help me carry all of the doll things I bring along on the plane or to the cars and remind me not to leave her/him anyplace. Often I bring one to work with me too.

51. At first I was worried too,and didn't take my boy with me.I regreted it,and the next year I did.Of course I didn't pull him into the beach or the sea...I'm too afraid of that, but I took some beautiful photos near those places. ^_^If you always take care, nothing bad happens (well, usually!)

52. A few years ago I took Xander (one of my MSD's) and my Pukipuki to Florida on holiday with my family. It was pretty fun having them around and I got some pretty funny photos although I do wish I maybe had had more time to go around everywhere and have proper photo sessions - we had a poor start to our holiday with flight delays which meant we had to give up the 'lazy days' that I planned to use as photo days and instead had to cram everything into what time we had left.
The airport security was pretty fun to go through, one of the guys at the scanner had a good giggle when my bag went through and asked if he could see my stowaway ^_^
I'll be heading to Australia and New Zealand in a month's time and again plan to take some of my gang with me - I haven't had my Littlefee for long and she's a pretty nice size to carry about so I'm thinking perhaps she and Xander will be my travel buddies.

53. I have always wanted to, but I am afraid that they might get lost or damaged, or that I'd get weird looks when I take them out for photos. I would definitely bring a doll with me if I was travelling to a doll related event like a convention, but usually regular vacationing involves a lot of shopping, eating and sight seeing for me so I doubt I would have time to fuss over them.

54. I have brought dolls with me three times now on holidays, but never to public places. I bring them with me when we're visiting family further up in the country, but I have never taken a doll on a holiday elsewhere. And I probably won't, either. Safety reaons. Plus, I'm too awkward in public.

55. Currently I'm looking forward to my holidays in the end of September and I definitly take my Realpuki with me and perhaps the darkhorn dragon.
They are so small they will fit in every bag.

56. Yep! I generally take at least one doll with me whenever I travel. :)

My Shushu, Lusis, and Bonbon all came with me to Ireland and I'm taking my Rheia to Mexico in a few months. The only time I don't take them is when it could pose a danger - so I'm not taking them canoe-camping next week for example. No way am I risking them falling into the water!

57. I do !
It's the perfect opportunity to take photos in different and lovely backgrounds.
You can see my latest holiday photos here (Ninon is playing on the beach) :

http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?637439-Meet-Ninon-from-France-Littefee-Ante

I must say I was a bit shy at first and afraid of other people staring but now I feel more confident about it.

I was also very impressed by Inma's stunning holiday pics, check it out !
For example, Inma's trip to the United Kingdom with her Iplehouse dolls :

http://inmamariquita.galeon.com/IHbritain.html

Enjoy !;)

58. I do too! We have a small RV, so it's no problem taking a bunch of dolls and their props along. I made padded boxes specially to fit my dolls, and they fit nicely in the back cupboards. Larger props go in a box in an outside compartment.

Each road trip I take a set of dolls along. They've been all over the US and Canada - from Newfoundland and the Maritimes, to the Pacific coast of Oregon and Washington. From watching icebergs in Labrador, to beach combing in Florida. In the Rockies and in the desert, and everywhere in-between. I'm careful with the dolls and try to avoid excessive sun, but I figure I bought them to enjoy them, so don't worry about it too much. If they get damaged I'll just get them fixed or redone. The only accidents so far was one doll was blown over face first by strong winds coming off a glacier in the Rockies, and one other doll fell into some rapids and was washed down stream (my husband jumped into the river and rescued her)

I prefer isolated settings for photos, and am not really comfortable being watched, although I have taken photos in touristy spots with lots of people. Then I just don't wear my glasses, and tell myself if I can't see them, they can't see me either. Works like a charm.

59. I tried to take my doll with me for a vacation but my parents told me he can't come cause 1) he is big and heavy 2) i might not be able to bring him anywhere there 3) we're going to the beach... it's hot, not good for him. xD

60. I do! I've brought just about every size of doll on one trip or another, but my Yo-SD is my favourite to travel with - very portable.
