Do you have a blog or website JUST for dolls?

Mar 9, 2013

    1. One of my blogs is specifically about dolls. The posts are mostly written from the point of view of one of my dolls, Hikaru. So it's "her" blog. From a Doll's Eyes

    2. Hi guys! So this is my very first thread post (hope I'm doing it right!) I wasn't able to find this topic, but please correct me if someone has already done a thread about this :blush

So, my question for you all. Do you have your own website that is specifically dedicated to your dolls, doll characters, backstories, etc.? I've only seen a few and they're so interesting! I'm considering creating my own little site about my doll crew as well :whee:
Please post a link to your site if you have one, thank you!

    3. I do! Mainly to keep my character profiles in one place and to blog about doll props/furniture finds :D

      Mine is www.roterwolkenvogel.de

    4. Oh wow your dolls and photography are just STUNNING!! :love Thank you for posting your site, everything is so professional!

    5. Yes and no *_*

I have a livejournal I set up as Wiki for my side of the chess story I have with my girlfriend.
I did so because people would often ask about the characters/the world, and I wanted something easy to edit and link to.
However, it's still on livejournal and not a proper website on its own.

I also have a Tumblr just for my face-up/customization stuff.

I still wish I had a very own website, with proper URL, for my stuff...but so far I didn't really look into it.
I would probably still use an existing base (like wordpress), since I can't code and would like something I can handle/change myself.
Also don't have a clue how this should look like, and if it wouldn't make more sense to keep face-up shop and collection completely separate.

    6. I just have a Tumblr account where I share my one guy's stories. I tried a website, but always felt I neglected it. Plus the costs. So found this a better way to go, that and Flickr.

      Bishonen House Steve/Eddie
Please ignore that first part. Can't seem to delete it from my blog.

    7. Not a web site per se, but I do have a blog where I share new dolls, doll sewing projects, doll photostories, doll meet-ups, etc. It's been live since 2010. I update it weekly.

      As the Resin World Turns

The link is also at the bottom of my signature.

    8. I have a website mainly to post pictures of the clothes and shoes I make for my dolls:

    9. I have my own web host and url, but somehow never got around to building an actual doll site on it. I've just ended up using it as an image host. Geek Fail = Me.

    10. Sure do! Just a spot to tell people about my project and the steps I do to make certain things come alive :D Mine is Bubblegum Crisis BJDs

    11. Yep, I just started one, right now it's just a place for me to post my planning, rambles, art I do of my ideas, and waiting posts, because I can't get my dolls yet. However, once I do have them, I'll post photos, photo stories, art and comics I do of them, their profiles, and anything else I can think of! So basically it's for photos, rambles, sort of a journal too, and everything I do that is BJD related.

It's nice to have so I can get my thoughts out, but also so I can look back on it all!

    12. Bumping this up as I'm trying to bring mine back from the dead Paint It Black Studio
I would love more blogs to follow as well!

    13. i plan to start a tumblr page for doll photos and doll character inspiration, which hopefully ill get up and running when i get my first doll! i might also do some pinterest boards, but i dont think they really count for this thread haha!
ill post links when they have some content, and am more than willing to check out other doll lovers' tumblr pages as well!

    14. I've just started one separate from my regular blog-- in part because not everyone who follows my regular blog is as interested in the doll stuff, and in part because some people who might be interested in the doll stuff might not care about my fandoms/life stuff/nightblogging nonsense/flailing over cat pictures.

... Well, you'll still get cat pictures, but they'll either be cat dolls, or cats with dolls. I'm here:
The Cabaret Outside of Time and Space

It's partly about the characters and stories for all my dolls (not really RPing, at least at this stage...), and partly photographs and projects, and it's probably where I'll reblog cool doll-related stuff that comes across my dash. Right now, there's not a whole lot there at all, but I've got bios up for all three full resin dolls currently at home, plus a few OT dolls (mostly cats)

    15. Yes, I have!!! It's on Weibo!

    16. I usually post whatever I am into, not only Bjd related posts. But I moslty post pictures in my facebook page Nine's Years of Pilgrimage

    17. I made an instagram account for my dolls (both on and off topic). But I hardly ever update it :eusa_sile

    18. I started making YouTube videos about them, although I don't have my bjds yet. I blog about general crafting and doll stuff, too. My hobbies tend to become so entwined with my life that I can't really see myself keeping them separated.

    19. My Instagram is almost all dolls, though I occasionally stick a picture of my dog or miniature crafts in there too. I try to focus on BJDs, including DoA off topic BJDs. No fandom stuff, no drama, no personal stuff, just doll related random photos, whatever I feel like posting on any given day.

I also roleplay my dolls on Facebook, but I don't have a particular page for it. Each of my playable characters has their own profile, where I only accept other dolls as friends in character.

    20. I made a separate tumblr and instagram account just for dolls partially because I wanted to have a nice, neat, all-doll feed to scroll through and partially because....I personally would rather follow people for their dolls exclusively rather than all of their personal posts and doll posts mixed together. Obviously everyone can do what they want with their own accounts blahblahblah but I would much rather keep it all organized :sweat

    21. My instagram turned into dolls only/mostly and I want to have a youtube too.

    22. I have many accounts. facebook, instagram, tumblr. they house all my collections. I collect a lot of different kinds of dolls bjds being among them.

    23. I have a blog (and a semi-dormant tumblr) dedicated to dolls and figures, but not exclusively to BJDs. I started out just documenting my collection (I had just moved and it seemed like a fun thing to do while I was unpacking), but eventually started reviewing new purchases and doing photoshoots and other related posts.

I'm less active in that than I was a couple of years ago, but I still dip into it from time to time.

    24. I do on tumblr. I mostly reblog other people's dolls that I like but I'm hoping to post more pictures of my own dolls once I have a decent camera

    25. hey I was wondering if anyone had a doll blog thinking of making my own but thought It'd be pretty pointless if there was no audience for it also though this could be a good place for others with blogs to share them

      let me know :)

    26. I used to have a doll-only blog on Tumblr, but ended up dropping it because the Tumblr doll community was...well, less than savory, in my opinion. Too much drama and negativity.

I know some people have blogs with their own URLs or on websites like Weebly or Wix, and I think those are really cool, especially for artists. I might be interested in making one if I ever had some spare time for it, but for now I'm happy just here on DoA!

    27. You know, I always hear negative comments about Tumblr, but I am there and I don't see any of that stuff. It is possible to tailor your feed and experience and stay away from any drama and negativity. Don't follow people who reblog that stuff, don't reblog it yourself, block anyone you don't want to be involved with. Sure there are some serious jackbags on there, but you don't need to engage everyone on the internet who is wrong. I create the experience I want and it works for me. (my tumblr link is in my sig)

BJDs have an equally long history of doll blogging. It has always been a part of the hobby. Some people have stand alone websites, others use Tumblr, Instagram, Flickr, Youtube, even LJ still has some. There is def an audience for blogging.

    28. I know lots of people who use actual blogging sites to post their dolls! Personally I just stick to tumblr because I can't be bothered to learn how to set an actual blog up and I really enjoy it! There are people who want to start drama and discourse, just like any other social site, but if you stick to the positive and pro-artist circles, you'll meet tons of friendly and talented people who will 100% want to talk dolls with you :) I've only been in the online community part of the hobby for a few months now and I've already made a few friends on tumblr. Doll blogs, vlogs, and other online doll journals totally have an audience though! They were just as fascinating and informative to me as a newbie as they are to me now <3

    29. I always wondered about this, because I only followed people who were nice people with awesome dolls and no real drama! I guess it mostly snuck in when I would actively search for certain sculpts or faceups or something. I never argue with people online (it's even more pointless than arguing in person), so it was super annoying to have to scroll through so many weirdly negative posts and long rants when I was just looking for pretty dolls. (I also just kind of dropped the rest of my blogs because the entirety of Tumblr was getting on my nerves. But that's just my experience, I'm not saying no one should enjoy Tumblr!)

I know it's not technically a blogging site, but maybe I should try Instagram? I've heard good things about the community on there, and it seems more focused on photos than text. Maybe it'd be better suited for me!

    30. @KiyoshiSenshi IG may be a better venue for your needs. I feel like Tumblr is a place I can blog and reblog other people's work that I admire to create a feed of things I want to see and remember. IG seems to be more about what is yours and what you create. I feel like if I made an IG, I'd have to actually get around to photographing my dolls again or working on my own doll stuff? Maybe I'll get motivated some time. :sweat

    31. @KiyoshiSenshi I also found that Tumblr was not for me, for the same reasons, but I am on Instagram and I like it a lot! I mostly only follow people who stick to doll stuff, or my friends so I don't mind their non-doll stuff, but it saves me from having to see all the rants, negativity and off topic stuff. I haven't had to block anyone, and if someone is posting stuff I find offensive or not interesting, I just unfollow.

    32. I have a personal/hobby blog on tumblr which focuses mainly on BJDs. I plan to make a blog specifically FOR my dolls in the future too.

    33. I really use naver blogs occasionally, but I use Twitter almost every day!
Twitter is more convenient than Instagram and it is good to have immediate feedback~ : )

    34. this is my Wordpress doll blog >0<

      The Story

    35. Well on my Deviant Art I also do a bit of writing and a lot of it includes my doll as the main character. I've also made a blog on blogger about dolls in general like my grails and anything I want to save and get.

      • x 1
    36. My Deviant'art for the begining, but when my doll's collection will grow, I think I open a blog just for them, yes.

    37. Not yet, but eventually I would love to! My dolls are based on my book characters, so I'd have a lot to discuss about them in general. Or just take a picture or five haha!

    38. I've gone from Flickr to Instagram. It's completely doll related and I keep my personal identity separate. I'm not ready yet to combine the two ~

    39. I decided I wanted to take another shot at blogging and signed up for a Wordpress blog! It will *mostly* be about my dolls, but I will probably babble about my life sometimes (mostly my daughter and my Corgis)!

    40. I've actually attempted to create a couple accounts on tumblr at different times, but eventually got bored and dropped both. One was more general while the other (which came months after I dropped the first) had a mix of bjd stuff along with a few other personal interests. Over time I just realized Tumblr wasn't for me.

I've since migrated over to Instagram, and have been posting on there more over the last couple of months. I have a bjd/ot doll-centric account on there at lesapphirebjd. I tend to post a lot of my WIP stuff about my crew on there.

I also have a Flickr account that I occasionally post stuff on, and that's about it at the moment:kitty1

    41. I have a dedicated BJD tumblr, but it barely gets much attention. I'm more-so on Instagram when it comes to dolly things. But my Instagram also isn't BJD specific, haha.

But yeah, my doll Tumblr is mostly dedicated to re-blogging other peoples dolls I love, and sometimes my own boys. <3
If you guys want, my tumblr is: BJD

    42. i have one that was set up to be a dolly blog
onebluestocking:: bjds, designs, crafts and assorted nonsense

i use it to show off new dolls when i get their faces done, the occasional photo story, and lots about the crafts i do for my dolls. occasionally i will throw in people sized crafts or garden pics just because, but for the most part i try to keep it doll related

    43. There's nothing on it just yet, but I went ahead and set up a BJD Instagram! I'm hoping to get some doll photography done this weekend and I'm just too lazy these days to keep up with Flickr and a blog.

    44. I'd be interested in hearing where you find these. I'm looking for where people are writing about the hobby, about their dolls, posting photostories, and other engagements that go beyond the aesthetic Instagram bjd world (don't get me wrong, I'm amazed by the beauty of the Instagram bjd world!).

Are people blogging on Wordpress? Dreamwidth? I hang out on Tumblr and see very little bjd-related content there. I know some people use Twitter for lots of things, but I'm looking for more long-form kinds of writing.

Thanks kindly in advance from an (old!) old-schooler who feels like a newbie again.

    45. I believe most people abandoned Tumblr because there was a huge Pro-Recast group bulling legit owners if I remember correctly. I think Youtube and Instagram, a little twitter and privately hosted WP are most popular.

    46. I think the BJD community is more on Facebook and YouTube now. I'm a part of a BJD group on Facebook called BJD Addicts, and there are usually several posts per day of people sharing their new dolls and projects.

    47. @TheKidAbroad and @CaladhielTan - thanks for your replies. It's good to get a sense of where people are, these days. The sort of thing I'm thinking of might be more like a WP blog. I almost never post doll content on Tumblr - I didn't even realize pro-recast people were dominating there. :horror:

    48. I do a project video on my YouTube channel every Saturday, and I see other BJD channels uploading WIP type videos also. Of course, that would be in video form and not text, so that might not be what you're looking for.

    49. Thanks for letting me know, @CaladhielTan - your channel sounds cool.

I just came across some old stuff of mine on Livejournal, and realized how much I missed having a kind of concentrated space for written reflections--not necessarily meta about the hobby, since I don't actually feel like I know that much about the contemporary state of the hobby. More like writing about my own dolls and how I feel about them, I guess.

    50. Bringing the dead back to life!
I'm working on a blog that will be owned by my first BJD - idoru Rei Toei (she is my avatar too).
At the moment the working version only... You can find the link in my signature.

    51. Here's my BJD blog, on my own domain.

I pretty much post everything BJD there -- photos, box openings, sewing and faceup journals, reviews of doll bodies/posing and stuff I've bought, questionnaires and fun things, all my bloggy ramblings (and I ramble a lot). My blog is also the only place that has my complete photoshoots; only a fraction of my pics make it onto DoA or social media.

    52. I don't have, I think it's mooooore difficult than Instagram or doll forums and you must already have some kind of audience but I like this website About my BJD that I find accidentally and she has YouTube also

    53. I could have sworn I posted in this thread already, maybe there's another one similar to it? Anywho, my doll site is just some dollies. I'm only focusing on my minis at the site, I have too many dolls to worry about posting all of them

    54. I started working on a doll Tumblr to gather all my faceups and doll photos into but realising how much work catching up with material and uploading and tagging it all is, I got a bit tired halfway :sweat I mainly post the photos to DoA and the idea of doubling up and uploading the pictures again feels a little annoying for me, too. But maybe one day I'll catch up and manage to publish the tumblog finally!

    55. I have a doll Tumblr! I post off-topic doll stuff there if it's not on DollDreaming... The name just my handle on here plus the word "dolls". I also have some dumb posts on there if I'm feeling silly, and reblogs of other people's dolls sometimes. :)

      • x 1
    56. My Flickr and Instagram are 99% about dolls.
My WordPress is about BJD stories, tutorials, box openings, micro stories and more.
The Wix blog belongs purely to Rei. I'm thinking about making a special instagram for her too, but I'm too lazy.

    57. In the past I tried to start a blog about my doll stories and pictures and the dolly-related crafts I used to make, but I've never been an active person in forums or social media to promote it correctly and, when considering the amount of effort I had to make and almost no one would see it or interact with it, the task seemed daunting and pointless.
Now I have a IG account only for my dolls and dolly related stuff (pictures with small texts) but I'm not as active as I'd like. I sometimes have ideas and things I'd like to do, but life keeps me entertained and in the end I'm pretty content just watching my dolls and having them around.
