DiM (Doll in Mind) Mini Discussion Part 6

Been kind of quiet,-bumping for pics My UD body just shipped for my Jullis head- I’ll post resin comparison when it gets here I couldn’t get the GuardLove body as holidays are close- maybe I’ll start on Larina and Flowne next year. I also got an Annelise head I’m excited to put together I’m thinking to make him a boy- the sculpt looks like he’s related to Lloyd and Dolce

 

I got my UD body today Julis looks kind of bobble head lol My WS Larina looks better on it TBH- I was able to attach her head piece to the body and the fit is perfect. The resin match is extremely good- the difference would be unnoticeable with a faceup. I do have a question- I’m trying to attach Julis head to the body but the hook seems to be too big to fit through the neck hole. Anyone who has a Julis- did you have to use a smaller S hook to attach it to a body? I don’t have any other MSD sized bodies so I don’t know it could just be UD MSDs have bigger hooks

Can you put the hook on the inside? Maybe take ribbon, pull the body elastic through the neck to the inside and attach the hook?

 

Ooo I will try that and post a picture. I think if I take the hook out from the body, set it in the head and pull the string through the neck, then attach it to the hook, it should be better then trying to slip the hook through the neck hole.

Thankyou for your answer and photos. I'm really tempted with this body. I'm considering between a loongsoul body but not sure if it's better in pose/colour.

It's Larina, Laia, and Flowne again, but he is open to other heads if the demand is there.

 

oh i was just thinking the other day that there's still a lot of interest... i think i'm going for the Larina. I wonder if we could get enough people together for Annabeth, too

My wishlist would be Alpon and Yvaine who are probably a little too obscure.

It's amazing that he's still up for doing this though.

Of course I still need to get bodies for laia and larina so I should probably focus on that lol.

 

O wow another order! I haven’t even finished completing the dolls from the last order lol. Im going to try for one of the SD Vampire girls and either Morningdew or Fantasia Elf version, so my Flowne won’t be alone

 

I really shouldn't but if there was the option for either Bellose or Kassia I would 100% buy them. I tried looking at pictures of Benetia but that sculpt just doesn't have the pouty lips.

My poor girls from the last order are still awaiting face ups. 2/3 have bodies, still undecided on what I want to do with my Larina.

 

Have you seen Odile? She’s got the most pouty lips . When I place an order to Denny, I’m just going to say any 2 of the Vampire girls that end up having the most counts I want Odile, Leonora the most but if the other girls are more popular, I’d love to have Kassia and Bellosse. Hmm maybe I should open a GO for just SD DIMs

 

I would love to get Yvaine too.
I can't even find her for sale on the second hand market... Yvaine and Lucinda are the ones I would really love to get now.

I bought Alpon some time ago and he is one of my favorite boys - such a unique sculpt!

 

I'm so pleasantly surprised at this news! I got the email too. I really didn't have any plans for more DIM sculpts unless I happened to find some on the secondhand market at the right time. I've been so happy with my Laia girls... and I want to focus on shelling other characters. But it's so tempting to think about the DIM sculpts I missed out on.

I can’t remember, does the resin color count for the minimum or not? Like 30 heads no matter the color or 30 heads of NS minimum for Denny to be able to produce? I’m thinking of opening a SD Vampires Only GO in the next couple days XD

 

It didn't seem to count for a minimum last time (even though you'd think it would!), so I don't think it would this time either.
That said, you could always email him!

I asked and apparently yvaine and alpon they no longer have the molds or sculpts for. A pity.
I wonder if that's why they tend to only offer a very limited number of the heads, becuase they simply don't have the rest.

But this IS a good motivation to get the money together and order bodies for my two lol. I had narrowed it down to a few potentials, I just gotta bite the bullet and order.

I’d love to try for her if we could get enough buyers. I seen a few of her painted, she’s rare though. Major potential, just like Larina, can have so many different looks.

Oof, I don't think I need another DIM head since I've already got my Annabeth second-hand - and haven't done anything with her; but I could consider signing up for another Annabeth just to increase the chances of people getting her, for I do love this sculpt...

Does anyone know when this new preoder will close/be finalised? I have sent an email for a Larina and been told I'm added on the list, but that was back in July and no invoice was sent since then and now I'm wondering if maybe I did something wrong, or if it'll just come later...

 

Hi, I was asking Denny in the beginning of August, if it is everything correct with my order. ( was afraid, as you, that I did something wrong). And he answered, that order is not gathered the minimum yet, so, when it will be enough orders -he will send e-mail. He will let us know.
So I think everything is good, we just need to be patient a little bit more.

 

Hi everyone just dropping in to share my twins and say how much I love DIM sculpting. I hope everyone is enjoying your new (or old!) dollies and finding bodies and getting them customized would love to see how your dolls are doing!

So cute! It's really cool to see dolls from the group orders. Mine are still blank, I did get a body for one earlier in the year but decided it wasn't right, and now I need to wait some months until a new one arrives.

I think the heads have mellowed a bit whilst waiting - DiM does seem to yellow quite quickly, a bit like old Doll Chateau white from the early 2010s - but it's no big deal. I bought white skin because I was going to be dyeing it anyway!

@nattherat I hear you about the body situation- I got one late last year but didn’t like the proportions for the doll it was intended. But I’m giving the body to another one of the heads- I’m going to have a boy Larina He’s not painted up yet, I’m hoping to send him to Steppencat on IG. What color are you going to dye your head? Tan or fantasy color?

I been working on my other dolls- this year I got my grail a DIM BBjorn he came back from faceups recently- I posted some pics in the DIM Love size discussion. While I wait for Larina’s artist to be available, I’m working on my Arttong Nymph-just got a body for her from Island Doll. I haven’t posted pics yet, I love the body for her though. Looks so gangly and cute- my first 1/6 size. Even tho she is 1/6 I hope I can post her here with my Larina

 

Haha, we're twinning too sort of, at the moment! I bought a boy body because I was compromising in terms of price (a mistake, I've now ordered a girl body), but it's too thick for the clothes I wanted to use. I have it up for sale, but there's been no bites and if it doesn't sell then it's going to end up going to my Larina too.

I got Laia and Larina in my GO I hosted, I was only interested in Laia originally, but knowing it was likely the last chance ever for Larina, I got that head too. So Laia is the doll I have plans for, and she'll be dyed a very very deep brown. I have Jullis as her partner who is already dyed a deep brown, and they have a child together (Doll Chateau/Island Doll hybrid) who I dyed even darker. So although genetics aren't exact and consistent every time IRL and therefore it doesn't really actually matter what colour I make Laia, I want to try and dye her the darkest of all three. However, dye being what it is, I'll just see what colour chemistry and chance bring her out as when I finally do it!

If Larina keeps the boy body, I might make them a light peach. If I sell that body though, I'll probably try and dye the head to match my DollZone Light Tan body.

 

@nattherat Ooo I can’t wait to see your DIM projects become complete It looks like you have your hands full- will you post your Laia, Jullis and their child when you get your Laia dyed I want to see them altogether

 

Haha thank you, it'll be a long time! I probably won't even start anything until Laia's body arrives, which I imagine the very earliest that would be would be late-March/early-April next year. Then disassembling everything and dying it is definitely something of a hassle, so it'll depend what I'm doing at the time.

Otherwise though, yes, I would like to share my dolls eventually!

I just got her this week on ebay - seller says she's Benetia but the more I look at her I'm thinking it's Becca. I was looking for Benetia to go with my tiny Benetia (aka Arttong Nymph) but this face is just too cute to pass up. She looks like a mini verstion of one of the Vampire girls Leonora, Kassia, or Bellossee IMO

She's on the DIM Glamor body. Cute and charming but I think I'll hybrid her with a more updated body. The arms are pretty wonky and limited mobility. Solid stander though.

Arttong Nymph (or Tiny Benetia XD) on Islanddoll Tear body. So cute- the resin is a terrible match but I'm hoping her faceup artist will fix it. I'll do another DIM resin comarison sometime soon.

Hallo everyone I have a little question, has anybody tried to make hybrid from DIM msd head and Maskcat doll body?
I am not sure about resin color, if it will me a good match.
Just choosing right body for my Larina head and not sure. So many opportunities. Thinking about Doll Family, or Dollzone, or Doll Chateau, but saw also Maskcat…and it looks so tender and natural. Also neck size looks nice.

Coming into the thread again to celebrate buying a whole set of clothes and stuff for my Larina!
So much for selling them (him?) off, I guess! It puts my 1/4 collection at 5 dolls; 4 DiMs, 1 my own sculpt, and that's what I intend to be my forever-number.

A shame that between buying clothes and getting clothes... you have to wait! They're being customised, so I imagine January is the earliest I will possibly see them.

Odd Artistocrat/Odd BJD, as they are known! I already have one of their outfits for Benetia, and I decided to buy the male version for Larina. Normally I'd just buy a standard MSD size and not worry about it, but Larina's body's hips are 2cm larger than Volks so I figured it was best to pay the few extra dollars to make sure the trousers fit.

 

Got me an old secondhand Alpon but as most of us are aware, the DIM body and the DIM heads aren't a great match.
so I will have to do some neck modification here.

anyone got any tips for how to tackle this? I'm thinking of sanding the neck a little smaller all around (well, sides and back to preserve his collar bone sculpting) and maybe a little sanding of the head hole but there's unlikely to be a huge amount of resin I can remove from the head because it's not very thick resin there.



Here's his adorable little face though. Who can resist that little pout?

aww thanks. I don't know if that's his factory face or not. I did thicken up his brows slightly but the rest is how he came.
He's quite yellowed sadly, but I plan to get some magic erasers and give him a good scrub down and see if i'm okay with it. I don't think it really helps that the pinks of his faceup have remained while the pink of his resin hasn't. He's more an ivory sort of colour now.

DIM bodies are... baffling. In fact a lot about DIM is baffling. There's no consistency in head sizes (Alpon's head is MASSIVE and Ace's is even bigger!!?) or mechanic of how their heads/faces go on and the bodies are kinda notorious for not actually fitting the heads they were bought on.
I have always wondered why. Did they just not care or did they just not realize?

whatever the case, it's gonna be something that has to wait til better weather anyway. I like to do my sanding in the garden with a mask on so the dust isn't in my house and all over my stuff waiting to be inhaled. (yikes)

He came in a rabbit shaped blanket/wrap thing and it's hilarious.

 

l don’t know why but I find it weirdly charming XD I think the sizes are so varied for a couple reasons: 1. I believe DIM have had different artists that worked in that company, which probably lead to different ideals of size. And 2. It could also be they were following the current trends of the BJD world at the time. Earlier heads seemed to be a bit bigger than more recent sculpts …. most of the time XD. I have 3 SD heads from DIM, 4 MSDs, and 2 sculpts from one of their artist that sculpted solo for a while and it is a bit fun and interesting to see the evolution XD
