DiM (Doll in Mind) Mini Discussion Part 6

I’m not sure if the resin colors could be different in this new batch of heads we are getting, but I saw a Flowne owner with Guard Love body somewhere on IG and Annabeth on a Dollstown Elf body on Tumbler. I thought these were interesting choices instead of the usual DC/DZ or minifee DIM hybrids. I really like the aesthetic of the Guard Love - I’ll see if I can search for the owner later. But I didn’t realize how big the Annabeth head seems to be if it can fit (and look good) on Dollstown Elf body. Makes me want an Annabeth even more

 

my two boys are an Annabeth on a doll family H body and Gayane on a Doll Leaves body. very different shapes but works fairly well. the df h neck could do with a teensy bit of alteration so it sits a little more flush but it's not too bad imo.

I was thinking something like dollits for my other floating head but those bodies are pricey.

 

Couldn’t find the owner with the Guard Love body, but IG user “mappledoll” (I don’t want to link) has a Flowne on a 1/4 UFDoll body and I love it I see UFDoll has a website but can’t seem to find a dealer. I’m going to keep looking around but UF is a very strong contender for me along with Guard Love

 

So, since there's still no certainty about the Annabeth pre-order, I grabbed an Annabeth head at the second-hand market (still in for another one if we make 25 pcs). She came today and oohhhh I don't remember ever being that fascinated by the blank sculpt! I don't know yet how I want to paint her; actually, I'm not even sure if it's "she" bc male Annabeth's are awesome too (and I've got way more girls than boys). Anyway, I love this head and I want to try giving her/him/them a face-up myself

I'm going to put Annabeth on a dream valley 51cm boy body (it's finally on the way to me!) and I thought to get a charm boy body for Larina. I read that DV and DIM skin tones were pretty close, but I'm not sure about the charm normal pink. Does anyone have experience with combining charm and DIM?

Not in those colours, sorry! My Jullis is white skin on a Charm Doll body, and that was pretty identical imo! (was, because he's since been dyed)

I also had a question, though. who is this doll? it was labeled as a DIM doll on Pinterest, but couldn't figure out the sculpt name.


I love this sculpt, though. no idea if it's a Happy or a Love doll, to be honest, however.

yes, it's a lovely sculpt! he told me it's "not available for order" though so I guess she won't be produced again.

 

I emailed Denny pretty early on about this and he said the new heads would be the same resin color they used to do.

This thread will be semi-quiet until we all get our new heads in I know, but I am so excited for it! We’re closer now I think!

I’m so excited to finally be getting Laia, for sure. I don’t have the finances for her new body yet (Charmdoll, they are amazing), but I suppose I better try and get the funds soon haha!

 

Do we have any estimate on how long they may take?
I'm trying to work out when all the things i've ordered are due and it's getting confusing lol. I have the DIM heads who will of course need bodies at some point. I have another artist head. I have my frapzilla doll due "soon" and Magic Mirror doll which we've not heard anything about since the preorder.
Man, I really splurged lol.

Thinking about bodies. I quite like the Myou body I have for my Wol so i'm tempted to get another for one of the DIM heads. I'll have to dig out my Larina and see how she looks on it. It's a nice curvy body which I appreciate. I like big hipped female dolls heh.
The other body I was considering was Dollits (*but I don't know what's going on with them atm, they were changing sites or something) or something similar. I know the sort of SHAPE I want, it's just figuring out which will work/fit best and costs. Charmdoll also has some really nice bodies, I agree with Nat there.

I'm considering also whether I want to go with similar body shapes for Laia and Larina or not. I'm leaning toward going for a completely different body shape because I like diversity but also because it would help to differentiate them.
As for Ace/Julius (whichever he is lol.) i'm umming and ahhing because as he's white skin and old stock i'm not totally sure what colour he'll actually BE when he arrives. I'll likely end up dying him which means I am not as restricted by resin colours for bodies.
I really like my DFH body that I have Annabeth on and they've released a shorter slender body which looks nice, but i'm not sure how the proportions will work. DIM doesn't have very consistant head sizes, some are substantially more melonheaded than others.

Hybrids are stressful which is why I usually wait til I have the doll IN HAND to test on various bodies I already own and then compare those measurements to bodies i'm considering.

I'm excited to get these heads but also kinda nervous because hybrids are a challenge to put together.

 

@purple_monkfish Best guess is 90 days/standard three months. We’re not far in enough to really be emailing him yet, we’re just… closer than before due to the nature of linear time.

 

Oh, that's exactly the time when I'm starting to get excited - maybe just in a bit over a month we'll be getting them

Meanwhile, my long-waited for Dream Valley body for my Felix (Annabeth, boy) has finally arrived! I'll be posting some pictures of him as soon as I get some time to properly restring him (DV bodies are ridiculously tight, rghh!)

 

yes I’m still debating on what body to get for Julis. I really like the UniverseDoll 1/4 body but not sure about the resin match. Gonna hunt for some resin matches later- I’m thinking I can search matches for DIM, then see if those matches match Universe. For Flowne and Larina, I really want the UFDoll body but I can’t seem to find a dealer If I can’t get that body, probably go with Guard Love.

Isn’t he pretty?! I had Terrence on my sculpt wishlist when we sent out our Laia,Larina, Flowne GO. I’m pretty sure there is no where near the numbers for him to be produced, but I can still dream and look for him in the marketplace

 

AHah I got the body for the Annabeth too. I just. Don't have the Annabeth So it'll go to the ones that'll come instead.

I've been thinking about which body to get for Larina-boy. Charm body would be amazing, but I'm also considering some cheaper body, maybe Doll Leaves one. I went broke this year with all the bjd purchases haha

 

That's so sad the Annabeth won't be casted. Well, I got mine second-hand, and there will be the other three, but I'd like to see more Annabeth's around.

Speaking of which, @PhDolls I'm really looking forward to seeing your Annabeth boy!

I didn’t think DIM will decide to close and missed a last pre-order on DIM heads… I would really love to get Jullis and Ace, they are so precious~

I’m sorry, I think you are some months too late. DIM closed a long time ago now, and the latest preorder was via email and also accompanied with a note about how he was retiring from the bjd (and figure) part of his life.

The last order closed at the end of May. You could email him, but at this point it’s quite far away from his deadline.

 

As promised, here are some pictures of Felix (Annabeth) on Dream Valley 51cm boy body. I've experimented with different wigs (in the beginning I didn't even imagine he would end up with a white one). Now he looks like he could be born into the Targaryen family, doesn't he? Hopefully, he got the "sane" side of the coin!!

Hehe, thank you!! I had to put him in a box and it takes a lot of effort to avoid sneaking in to look at him But yeah, work productivity has definitely suffered

I really hope you can get him!! I dreamed of having Annabeth and I was extremely lucky to buy one head second-hand. And I think that making a hybrid with DV body worked out really well, there's no difference in colour and the proportions are nice too.
I also hoped I could get another Annabeth through this last order to create a twin sister for Felix, but...

i don’t have any bodies yet for any of the 3 heads I’ve ordered- I’m so unprepared

I haven’t done a lot of research on resin match, but I saw a Flowne on a 1/4 Guard Love boy body on IG (I don’t want to link, but the user is jiki_arisugawa if you want to see their adorable Flowne ) and it looks good in the Flowne sculpt. The hands are especially cute

 

Oo thanks for posting this I’m so excited everyone getting their dolls DoA gonna be flooded with pictures of Laias, Larinas and Flowne XD. I do like the Myou body, I like that it’s not super skinny. I might get it in white skin for Larina if it’s a good match. I’ll probably go Guard Love for Julis and Flowne. Aren’t the hands just the cutest?! Truly the highlight for me

 

Slow going, but all the recent talk about DiM got me motivated to finally finish a wig for Theon~ Fibre ended up being too short for what I originally planned, but it still fits part of his character so I'll keep it and just make a longer one in future~

Also I'm assuming she can't really be posted in this thread since she's a 1/6 (though I'll be putting her on a 1/4 body) but I found a Primrose, so my DiM (and vampy) collection has grown~ She's going to be a Nosferatu friend for my Malkavian Benetia, Lydia

For DIM Normal Skin there's a lot of matches. I can confirm Normal Pink from Dollzone and Doll Chateau (as they share the same resin, I don't have anything from the latter myself) match, and Normal from Doll Leaves. Pink from Magic Time matches. I believe DF-H (Doll Family-H) Normal Pink could also match but can't confirm directly.

Oh And DikaDoll Normal Pink is a match also, just remembered as I bought some jointed hands from them awhile ago and they match Dollzone which matches DIM

 

Is there something for a White Skin too?
Does Dollzone or Doll Chateau match it?

I have some white skin heads I'm trying to find bodies for myself. I believe nattherat said that Charm Doll works (I assume the white skin from them) so I'm considering them. DF-H might have a sample that matches DIM White closely that you can request, but not a guarantee.
