DiM (Doll in Mind) Mini Discussion Part 6

DZ/DC white is creamier than DiM white, but for me it's not a deal breaker. Looking at my Benetia now, maybe the head has mellowed a bit along with the body but the difference really isn't super noticeable, though I guess it depends on how picky you are

 

DF-A pink skin is also a very close match (I have a head from them).
I wondered about Charm normal pink. Any experience of hybrids with DIM? I'm thinking about ordering a boy body for the (hopefully soon) coming Larina head.

 

I have two dim dolls on other bodies. DFH "pink" and Doll Leaves "normal" are both very good matches.
Resinsoul's normal looks to be fairly close as well.

 

Resinsoul normal matches pretty much perfectly with Doll Leaves normal so it'd be a safe bet imo

 

I have my Flowne on a DollLeaves body, and both white and normal skin matches DiM. The bodies are nice, and it doesn't hurt that they're budget friendly.

 

Watched House of the Dragon last night and seeing the Targaryen family in all their glory reminded me of Felix He would fit so well in this universe- the look the props, the outfit

 

Got my heads today thanks to @Dew_Drops GO I will post blank heads a little later and I I’ll post some resin comparisons (probably in a separate thread) with the dolls I have on hand.

 

Oh wow, sounds like a lot of heads are turning up now. I'm excited. Hopefully that means the uk go will be soon then?
And then we can play the "is this julius or ace?" game with my mystery head lol. Even Denny didn't seem to know. Which is HILARIOUS to me.

 

Lol was the mystery head not labeled or something when he was going through his stock? I got one of the Julis, mine must’ve been labeled when he was going through them Also wanted to add: this head looks SD sized It looks way bigger then the Larina and the Flowne I got with my order.

 

Larina and, even more, Laia look tiny compared to Annabeth too! But, as a Blythe collector, every single time I go back to any of my bjds their heads look unproportionally small to me That's professional deformation hehe.

Very-very excited for you and for all of us! I haven't got my shipping notice so far, but neither do I have bodies for the three coming heads though One is in the making (for Laia), but g*d knows how long the Dream Valley will take this time.

 

@PhDolls Laia another smaller sculpt?! I’m kicking myself now I didn’t get her XD lol I guess all bjds would be considered tinies if you’re so used to seeing Blythes all day Ooo and your getting another Targaryen?! i don’t have bodies ready either Im looking at both SD (if there were any on smaller size) and MSD bodies that are slightly bigger- mostly looking for bodies with a similar neck size for the old boy bodies for Julis. So far I found Dika (8cm) and Universedoll (7.5cm) that I like :3 I’m still thinking of Dream Valley as an option

You can see the older sculpt white has mellowed a bit compared to the newer white. I compared both of these heads to the Arttong white and Luts white I have - they seem to have a yellow undertone where as the Arttong and Luts have a pinkish undertone(?). I'll post comparisons this weekend.

 

Question for those that are getting their heads. Did you get a shipping/tracking number notice? I haven't heard from Denny since I made the payment. Didn't get a confirmation email after the payment either but I assumed it was normal. I know that heads are still being shipped, but I do wonder if I should be mailing Denny to make sure all is good!

 

For the GO I was in, Dew_Drops said he received the tracking information through PayPal, not email from Denny

The answer to this is that I specified one sculpt to him, because he only gave me the option of one sculpt, and then when he invoiced, he listed the other sculpt in the invoice!

@purple_monkfish likes both sculpts fortunately, so we have a kind of mystery box situation going - who knows which head will show up?

 

and to be fair, ace and julius are twins anyway. They are SO similar i'm gonna have to rely on you guys to help me work out which one it is hahahaha.

regarding DIM head sizes, there is no consistancy there. Annabeth has a really big head, Gayanne's is similarly large but a touch smaller due to having a narrower jaw. Laia and Larina are dinky little things. Also there's zero consistancy as to whether they have a head cap or their whole face comes off. It's so wierd.

Annabeth's head looks really good on a taller broader body though, balances that big ol' noggin out.

 

Gah I hope I get Ace, I already have Julis.

And thanks for the updates on white skin. I have a few white skin heads needing bodies I really am so sad DIM is gone now. They have such lovely sculpts.

 

Hehe, well, I didn't really plan him as a Targaryen, but I knew from the beginning I wanted to make a snow-blond boy out of Larina. Felix (Annabeth) ending up white-haired came more of a surprise )

Oh wow, pink looks VERY pink this time. Do you think they changed the resin or is it the colour balance on the photo? I wondered if you have other dim heads in pink from previous releases and if the skin tone looks very different. Thank you very much for the photos anyway!

 

Yes I was surprised at how bright and pink the NS looked at first. But I compared it to my other NS dolls and it’s actually lighter or it matched very close. I don’t know if their NS changed I don’t have any other DIM to compare it too I’m almost done with a resin comparison of all my dolls, I’ll link the thread when complete.

Hi! Yes, so like @krystina said, I did not receive an email directly from Denny with tracking information. I was notified through PayPal that my order was updated with tracking information. It looks like some are getting emails and others are not, so I would keep an eye on both

As to what people were saying about the pink. I recall the heads I have were of a soft pinkish shade upon arrival, but light enough that the pink has mellowed to an almost white over the years. They are almost the same color as MYOU's 'normal pink' (THAT SAID, seeing someone here at the forum's pictures of that very same hybrid, their body looked wayy pinker than the dim head they had...myou may have sent me a different color by mistake or older dim pink heads were already a different resin color than the ones made later in the way.

I got an email too a couple of days ago! I've been redoing my old Larina's faceup in the meanwhile to make the wait a bit shorter ^^

 

DIM lovers, I have a question on DollZone and DIM skintone compatibility. Which DZ colour is the closest match with DIM, the "normal pink" or peach one? I remember coming across some photos of DIM-DZ hybrids in the past, but can't find them now.
Very much appreciate your help in advance!

 

So, I've had DIM heads on both, and the funny thing is that my DIM Laia head at least is kind of right between the Peach and Normal Pink color. I would say they are both very close, good matches, so it depends more on the faceup and styling of the doll in my experience!

Well, I had my peach Dollzone body about a year, I think, and the color stayed the same! It's a very light color, like pinkish-white. Because Doll in Mind NS sort of "mellows" over time, I think peach is a good choice for that reason.

My personal preference for my DIM Laia was NS-P simply because of her faceup, and I liked her body having just a little more pigment to it. When she had the peach body, it sometimes looked almost white, compared to the blushing and freckles on her face.

What happened to the US GO thread? I can’t see it in the hosted orders section any more.

 

I totally was not getting notifications for this thread. /o\ But popping in to say I received my heads (I got all three) last month, right as I got really sick. The other day I finally had time to do some headswapping with my Resinsoul bodies and I can confirm they make great potential hybrids.

The RS normal is almost spot on as a match. I have a mellowed body and a brand new one that just came in, and the DIM NP is smack dab between those two. A faceup will make it completely unnoticeable. Also, RS Rong and Shi bodies are great proportionally, as well as the single jointed male body.

It's funny, I ordered a head from a different company from clover singing and got a dispatch notice yesterday on that and today I come here to find the DIM heads have also dispatched.
I'm gonna be drowning in heads!

Meanwhile, I heard back from Denny and he said he'd be shipping my order next week and it's among the last ones. So it means that all our orders are to be shipped next week the latest !

 

Do mods remove GO’s that are finished? I think Dew_Drops got the rest of the USA GO orders out recently

My heads arrived yesterday~ Laia is really pretty, and hopefully it won't be too hard to mod one into the open eyed version.

I already had a Larina so I mostly got another just in case, since it seems like it was the last preorder for real this time, but I might use her for a Targaryen inspired dragon princess/queen, since I've wanted one for a while and @PhDolls Felix was super inspiring~

 

Ah I just popped in as I had a feeling it was about time - I'm so happy for those who have received their heads already!!
I haven't heard anything about mine yet (just checked PayPal and no changes) but it should be very soon
I'm thinking rather Myou or Doll Leaves body but I first need to decide whether this Larina is going to be another boy or a girl this time before I order anything

Haha don’t apologise, there’s no issue! I’ve just been enjoying keeping up with all the DIM orders, and there are older finished GOs in the Hosted Orders section that are still there, I thought some accident had happened or something!

Gasp, you made me run to it... But way overpriced imho and cannot afford at this price

 

People have been non-stop trying to flip DIM heads for extremely high amounts, I have personally seen a Benetia listed as high as $300. And yeah, I call it flipping too, because every single one has always been a blank unused head. I think it’s rather shocking. :/

This is the reason I ended up so cross that I sculpted my own original head in a DiM-inspired style a couple years back, because I was never going to pay the ridiculously marked up second-hand prices.

 

@Shin__ yes a little bit pricey I was seriously considering getting it but I have a body on layaway for my Julis head and I’m concentrating on completing my other dolls (currently have 5 floating heads .) Also, I’m holding out for DIM SD size heads which I really want more. If anyone see any Leif, Hammish, BBjorn or any of the vampire Love sizes, can ya hollar @ me?

Her name is Jadu. There’s actually a V2 on my instagram with some tweaks and improvements, but these days I just don’t have the capacity to sort out a print of it. I am thinking that if I like both Larina and Laia and they work well next to Benetia, I might actually just retire Jadu!

 

She’s incredible To me, she looks like she can be the little sister of DIM’s male vampire, Galahad they both have this fiery-ness about them . Really like how you styled her- you’re very talented

I've got my Larina and Flowne heads, both in NS. I had intended to wait to get them bodies, but a Luts body that was one of the ones I was considering came on the MP for a great price and I snapped it up, even though it was what they called their real white skin. I'm currently in the process of blushing my Larina WS to match.

Oh thank you, that’s really kind! Generally I only make BJD heads for myself, but a few people have expressed an interest in her, so perhaps one day!

In other news, the UK/EU GO arrived to me today! So many heads in one box!! There will be a small army of new DIMs in the world now haha.

 

Not naming names or trying to make anyone feel bad, but I have already seen at least 2 people from my group order (not on DOA) flip and charge $150 for Larina heads and I want to scream. I sold mine to one of the participants at the $50 ($49?) price because I had an opportunity to purchase my grail, if not for that, I would have kept her. That person is one of the flippers. I feel a little silly now, seems everyone will be selling Larina for at least that much, if I ever want her again.

Oh no, that’s horrendous! That’s seriously miserable, I’m sorry. I hate that I’m not surprised either, it just confirms what I have been privately observing ever since DIM closed.

We’re definitely going to see a new wave of them in secondhand spaces, and most likely for those inflated prices too… it’s absurd.

On the email I got from Denny it did say that they were shipping in order. I did my payment around may 23rd and it was shipped already. I hope that helps!

 

unfortunately it's a supply/demand issue. So long as they continue to sell at those prices, that's what people will price them at. I know when I was considering selling my Larina I just looked up what the current going rate on DOA and other similar community spaces were.
In the end I decided to keep her but I didn't find a single one for less than 100. I wonder if more supply might help that though. We've got a sudden flood of Larina and Laia heads specificially after all, and if there are several surging onto the market that should, you would think, drive the prices down.

One can hope anyway.

Out of curiosity Nat, the white resin my ace is in, how yellowed is it compared to the brand new white skins? I'm trying to figure a body.

 

You’d think so, but I am seeing these sit on the marketplace a LONG time without selling haha. I’m not sure they are actually shifting at those prices, not least because DIM isn’t really that popular, especially these days.

Your stock head is pretty yellowed. A yellow skin would be a closer match than a white skin in some cases. DZ/DC white, the one that is much more yellowy, might be a good fit. I’ll take a picture for you when I can, it’ll probably be tomorrow.
