DiM (Doll in Mind) Mini Discussion Part 5

Is anyone else really disappointed by the magnetic elf ears on the new sculpt? I know you can hardly see them in the picture but they don't look like part of the ear at all. I hope they haven't replaced all elf ears with the magnetic ones.

 

Not at all. Imagine different, larger elf ears becoming available? Or ears and horns? Or jewelry? Those ears are a promiss for the future!
I was dissapointment in the face. Sweet - but nothing special. 13 in a dozen.

 

I actually didn't even notice the ears But I admit, I'm so happy with this new girl! Sure, she might be a *little* bland compared to their old sculpts, but I still think she's beautiful and has the potential to look really amazing in the right owners hands. I was afraid DiM would go in a completely new direction altogether, but I can see the similarities between this girl and some of their old sculpts, so I'm optimistic we'll get lots of new pretties from them.

I was so happy I was able to snag a BN half closed eye Larina head off someone on instagram to go with my original Larina. So she quickly bumped my DIM flowne off her body, and now they're twins! Can't wait for her to get a faceup!
They are both on the DIM GSE body one with large bust and one with small bust.

Did DIM change sculptors? These new heads don't even look like their style.

 

I'm not really a fan of these new heads... seems like DIM is changing directions quite a bit.

 

I think that the difference between these new heads and the recently discontinued heads is because of a return to an older style, not a complete change in direction. Before Doll in Mind's most recent batch of sculpts (the ones that were discontinued all together during the event period) their dolls looked quite different. All those dolls were removed from the website unfortunately, so it's not as easy to reference them, but I see some similarities to the older sculpts in these, which makes me look forward to seeing what is in store for the future!

 

I had heard the reason for the discontinuation and aesthetic change was due to parting ways with their sculptor, so it's likely that's the reason for how different the newer ones look

 

I managed to grab a flowne heasd which was back in stock on their website. I've wanted her forever and missed the sale announcements because I haven't been keeping up with the BJD world for a while. I'm so excited!

I'm thinking about putting her on a loongsoul body (either old or new) does anyone have any thoughts on how well that would work?

I'm on the same page lol I just notice they had Flowne so I ordered her today because I couldn't miss out on her again. I also want to put her on the Loongsoul body. Is it a good match?

@Ballet I used to have a DIM Laia on a Loongsoul normal pink skin body, the old small bust one. In my opinion, the hybrid works really well! The resin match is very good and so are the proportions.

I don't think I shared my Larina here, yet. I haven't really definitively given them a gender or name. At first I thought they would be a girl... I called them Nina for a while, but not I'm waffling. Maybe they are a boy? Hmm. Things to think about before I commission a faceup for them!

Hey everyone! Just posting because I'm quite excited-I think I may have FINALLY found a body for my Sleepy-Eyed Larina head! I've been struggling so much finding a super short, mature yet chubby boy body for him, and I just stumbled upon DayDream's Little Prince body! Omg, it's perfect!

I'm a little wary since I can't seem to find its neck measurements anywhere, but I compared the shoulder/chest/waist measurements to my Doll Leaves boy body which I have my other Larina head on, and they seem pretty similar, so I'm hoping the neck will also fit. Still, the body is so new I don't really want to wait around for other folks to start ordering it, plus it's soooo perfect and I'm impatient!

 

After having him for almost a year my tan DIM Ace finally has his wig! His custom-fitted clothes are scheculed to arrive tomorrow, too, and I am SO PSYCHED.

I'm so excited for you, @InkyBear!!! That Little Prince body is squee-worthy... I love, love, LOVE short boy minis, and they are so dang hard to find. Can't wait to see your hybrid!

 

@PeppermintPocky Thank you! I may have "accidentally" hit the Buy button last night But I don't care! Fyedka will finally have his body! I'll be sure to share photos once he's complete, and perhaps DayDream's other bodies will be another option for hybrids for our lovely DiM heads.

And Theo is looking handsome as always I still think his custom color is absolutely gorgeous!

He's definitely one of my favorite boys I ordered the body from Dolks, but now I'm a little nervous since I used to think it was a reputable dealer but I can't seem to find very many reviews on it? Or it seems the reviews that are recent aren't too positive Hopefully I'm just being paranoid and my sweet little Larina head will have his body in no time.

QUESTION:

Does anyone know if Matt Tonner shoes fit on the Happy v.1 boy body? My Ace's feet are sort of small and I'm wondering if shoes made for Matt Tonner would work better than standard 1/4 shoes.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you so much! I'm thrilled to learn they work. The standard 1/4 pair I bought for him "fit" but look super clunky on his tiny feet, lol. So it looks like I'll be swappin' his shoes!

 

I know! His feet seem like they're half as big as my Kid Delf's feet, and she's only 40 cm!

 

Theo is one step closer to being the character I bought him to shell! Here he is wearing his new suit, custom-tailored for the DIM Happy boy body (v.1) by M3 Studio---it fits like a glove!



Next I plan to make him a detective badge and order him smaller shoes.

That cracks me up. I don't own a Kid Delf but I can say that my boy's tootsies seem closer in size to my Volks YoSD's than my other mini boys, lol.

@PeppermintPocky Good luck on the shoe hunt! Aren't DiM boy feet just sooooo teeny? I've basically given up and use regular 1/4 boots for mine, the body is so tall I feel like it makes him look nicely proportioned anyway

 

When I got Ace, I thought he'd share my Cleo's shoes, since some of hers are boy shoes anyway, so imagine my frustration when it turned out that her shoes are too big for him! I'm probably going to choose a body for my floating DIM heads based on whether it can wear all the shoes I've bought for Cleo that don't fit her.

There are tons of fancy sneakers for Tonner's Matt on eBay for not much money. Knowing that Ace can wear them is dangerous for my wallet.

Almost forgot to say--your Ace is gorgeous! I love his suit. And I don't think those shoes look too bad on him.

I wish I bought Ace when he was still available. he went out of stock then came back in and I planned to get him but waited too long. Theo is gorgeous. Love the tan! I have a Detective character too. They're fun to write.

I have some questions. I was searching but I didn't find information so... I finally ask you (and sorry if some question are already answered):

- What shoe size is compatible with Sweet?
- Do you know any store that has compatible wigs with Trisha head?

On a less positive note, over the past weeks I´ve been working on steadily replacing my earlier pictures on DoA using Photobucket by now transferring them to my Flickr account, but now it seems Photobucket won´t let me even delete any images previously uploaded there. So glad that by 2012, I was already so utterly fed up with them, that I fully switched to Flickr for uploading pics from then on ...

I think the Sweet line are technically tinies, so you may have better luck in the tiny section. As I recall, Trisha's head takes an 8-9 wig, which is a standard SD size. I really liked those sculpts, but the big head aesthetic isn't my thing.

What are some defining elements of DIM's sculpting, do you think?

 

I just ordered a Larina and a Flowne head. Are they similar in size? What eye size and what wig size?

 

Hey, has anyone been on the Doll in Mind website recently? I just did to check my order status. I ordered a Larina head in... normal skin? Not so sure, I requested white skin in the comments because I'm hoping to airbrush it a darker skin tone.

Whoa! I'm impressed to see them offering a head in tan, but... just a head? Not a full doll? And it's such an unusual grey-tan color. Hybridizing that is gonna be a nightmare. I hope they release a full tan doll soon!

I was never a fan of DIM bodies though... I'd love it if they produced a new body to go with tan Larina.

Hi guys Some time ago I had to sell my 3 georgeous DIM dolls (Benetia, Flowne and Miru) and I really miss them, especially Flowne and Miru I know, that Flowne's head pops up for sale on their website from time to time, but do you know if Miru appears sometimes as well? I don't know if there is a chance of getting her, or should I order Flowne instead xD

 

So they deleted that page, but now Larina’s head page has been updated to include skin tone options. It looks like tan skin’s $10.50 extra.

Right?!? I just commissioned a friend of mine to airbrush a Doll Chateau body in a darker brown color, and even if you take lighting and image quality into consideration, that tan still looks like an odd light grayish tan shade.

 

@Aya Aida , Miru has been sold out for quite some time now, since before the final sales, so I dont think so.

 

Unfortunately, it seems as though Miru wasn't popular enough to warrant a rerelease like Flowne and Larina It seems like Flowne is your best bet for now.

To me, its because they have facial structures of people you could find all over the world, so they're very versatile. I guess Iple is kind of like that, but they're too slim to really match with DiM's.
