DearMine DearLover Mini 40cm Discussion Part 2

May 13, 2013

    1. I still need to get a pair of those, sistercuervo, I remember you mentioning them a while ago. Kind of need them for those lovely big beastly boy feet. I think that's why Aaron (my Oskar) just keeps wearing the same jeans - he needs an outfit change ^^

Loving everyone's pics :kitty2 I don't come over here to DOA often enough any more and I should, especially for the Dearmine threads. Sure, I might be biased, but I think Dearmine owners are some of the nicest in the hobby :whee:

    2. Looks like great tools, sistercuervo! I'd probably change hands/feet more if I had them (I like gadgets!). :D

    3. Oh awesome! :D I really need to grab a pair. Do they work for feet and hands @sistercuervo?

    4. Yes, indeed they do. I've used them on both my girls & boys, too.

    5. I just checked out Luts and didn't see them for sale. :sigh

    6. Here they are, april :kitty2 (edit:- It'd help if I actually added the link :P) Welcome to LUTS - Ball Jointed Dolls (BJD) company
I'm sad they don't have the lion's head neck / head ring puller anymore. I always wanted to get one of those :(

    7. JenKat-- Thanks! I was looking under Tools! They had some neck pullers there, but not the Lion's head... BUT I could have missed that, too!

      • x 1
    8. Not a problem :) I knew where to find them as I've been meaning to buy them for a while but still haven't yet.
This was the lion's head Head Puller. I should have ordered one back when they were still in stock :( They have a standard head puller, I'm just being picky as I like how the lion's head one looks ^^ Welcome to LUTS - Ball Jointed Dolls (BJD) company

    9. @JenKat -- Oh, that IS a nice Head Puller! I never thought I'd need one, but I could have used one just the other day! --Although my bigger problem is that I have tools but they mysteriously are never where I can find them when I need them! I am SO disorganized!

There's a Luts GO going on... might be able to squeeze on...

    10. Hehe, I'm the same. I don't know where 1/2 my pairs of forceps are and I have a ton of them in various sizes from when I used to make mohair teddybears. They have to be here somewhere :P

    11. Oh excellent! :)

    12. I haven't posted on this thread for awhile but thought I could share a picture of my lovely Lume who is a Dear Mine Priscilla in lavender skin:

And speaking of hands, I really love Priscilla's hands! ^_^

    13. She's lovely!!! :)

    14. Oh she's so pretty @suruni! :D I love all the pinks and purples.

Well today was my Oskar's 2nd 'birthday'. So I made him a special something as a gift and took him out into the garden for some photos. I'll share them soon. :)

    15. Lume looks lovely in her violet gown and pink ribbons.
I can't wait to see Oskar in the garden. He is such a handsome fellow.

    16. Yes, more photos! I love Oskars!!!!

    17. Photos soon! Either tomorrow or the day after...work has been very busy and very tiring over the last few days.

    18. Ta da! Tsukio now has a proper, fluffy fox tail!

    19. Awesome!!! Love his fluffy tail. Such a handsome guy, Q&I. I swear, if I didn't already have 2 Dune, I'd be grabbing an Oskar. :XD:

    20. @Quiet and Insane -- Great photo. Love his outfit. And the tail is perfect! I like furry tails much more than the resin ones. Those are always getting in the way and getting knocked off... and they rarely look right on the larger sizes. (Tinies don't seem to have as much of a problem.) Did you make yours? I really need to just try and make some for mine, but I probably will take YEARS to even get a start! :doh

    21. @sistercuervo - Thank you! :D When I was first introduced to DearMine Dune immediately caught my eye, but Oskar was released only a month or two later and I fell head over heels for him.

@april - Thank you! :) That was actually my second attempt at the tail; the first one turned out far too red. While his resin tail was pretty good at staying on, people tended to think he was a cat and it kind of annoyed me, hence the fuzzy fox tail! XD I made it using some faux fur, which I then painted and hot-glued together, gluing on a magnet to hold it on and voila, a fuzzy fox tail! The longest part was getting the colour right, but one that had dried it took me a grand total of 10 minutes to assemble.

    22. Wow, @Quiet and Insane that tail is gorgeous ♡ Need to make Aaron a proper fox tail, haven't found the right fur fabric to match his wig yet. @suruni so pretty, I love the colour combo. And agreed on the Dear Lover girl's hands...so dainty ♡

    23. I can't even remember if the last time I was in here I was bemoaning changing clothes or if universe conspired because oh my god thank you for reminding me of those sistercuervo! I was contemplating asking the thread anyways, glad to see the conversation had come around recently!

Also, oh my god, has anyone see the new dearlovers up on the site? I'm torn between wanting Koon and just wanting his outfit (I love Koon, but I'm not sure about the ash skin but dear god that outfit!)

      • x 1
    24. Loving Koon in the Ash ♡ The softer grey of the Ash skin really suits him. Eve is beautiful too but more human than anthro so there isn't the appeal to me. I've been trying to figure out if Eve's face sculpt is the same as Rachel's or very slightly different...it's hard to tell with her unique face-up. I'd love to see the 2 sculpts side by side.

    25. I think it is different, because she's been striking me as similar but I couldn't put a finger on which one. Even thinking about her being a Rachel, well, my brain still thinks she's new.

You are definitely right though, the ash skin is a very nice soft gray, that is for sure!

    26. @JenKat - Thank you! :) Rather than trying to find fabric of a certain colour, I just used some white faux fur I already had on hand and painted it - much less stressful than trying to find the right colour.

@HeavensChaos - Ahh yes! Koon is gorgeous! But I've used up my doll money for the year and I won't be buying him...that outfit is lovely and I'd love to see it on Nocturne. Sadly they not being sold separately...

    27. @Quiet and Insane -- what did you use to paint your tail? Wouldn't some paints just flake off? Or make the fur spike? (I've got a non-dearmine cheetah girl who needs a fur tail with spots--the resin just just stiff and awkward and not big and thick enough--but I'd need to paint spots and colors on it, but wasn't sure if that would work!)

    28. I just watered down some acrylic paint and brushed it through really, really well. It's still very soft and fluffy. I don't know if you'd be able to do little details like that though.

    29. @Quiet and Insane -- Wow, just acrylics? I'll have to try it, then. Your tail looks amazing! (It'll take me years to get around to actually getting a tail to paint, but it's good to know that it can be done that way. Details, if they end up less fluffy won't worry me. Mostly just worried that acrylic would make the fur stick together in clumps and ruin the fur.) Thanks! :)

    30. I'll bet you could use a small "Barbie" hairbrush to de-clump the paint spots. I have some fur & paint here that could be good try outs for patterning. Another idea is to wet the fur first and dab the dots on, letting it spread naturally.

    31. It seems to be in how you handle the paint and how much water is in it. I like fairly thin acrylics anyway, and have a set of Golden liquid acrylics that I love, and that should work ok. I just wasn't sure if there wasn't some special kind of fabric paint/dye that would bond better than acrylic out there. But my guess would have been that acrylics would work well enough. Just wasn't 100% sure about it.

Getting the right fur will be the immediate issue...! I'll see how that goes. I'm gradually trying to get through all my various dolly projects! :sweat

    32. I went to dear mine site and recognize that I really want to buy Loc from their, could you please tell me is it chance they wil re-release him?

    33. Loc was last released in 2012, as far as I know, and I don't think any since then! You should ask DearMine. That way they will know someone wishes for a re-release.

DearMine doesn't seem to to re-release a lot of dolls, particularly the older sculpts. But maybe if you ask??? They have some super-cute older sculpts that I'm sure people would love to have re-released.

I found my Nekomata Roy several years after his release, in the Marketplace. It's possible to find them second-hand, but it's difficult because not so many were made back then...

Sometimes Dearmine will re-release in different resin colors and faceups... but sadly, it's not so common.

    34. I used a child's toothbrush to get all the lumps and clumps out of the fur and it worked quite well. :)

    35. Thank you very much for your reply, yeah I will ask them for Loc, maybe they can release him again in different colour and, maybe, character.

    36. I wish Eve had hooves instead of just the normal feet that would've sold me on her ;) Otherwise she's just a cute face to me

      • x 1
    37. Unfortunately, dear mine haven't plans to re-release Loc :( I hope they will release the MSD one, that I miss the name...

    38. Speaking of Eve...if it weren't for the terrible conversion rate right now, my fiance would have bought her without a second thought. Deer girls are his thing. <3

      • x 2
    39. Yeah, Eve is very beautiful. Maybe Dear's have layaway function and your fiancé can buy it? They are very hard to find on the second hand market.

    40. I'm sure he will be re-released some time in the future but there's no way of knowing when. I know someone else who's been hoping for him for a while so you can rest assured that you aren't the only one looking forward to a Loc release ^^ It's unlikely they'll do an exact copy of a past release, though. Was there a particular version you were after, or are you after a blank Loc to customise?

I know exactly what you mean on the conversion rate at the moment ...very painful. I'd also agree layaway is the go, it's the only way I've been able to manage my currently incoming doll being paid off at the moment. Dearmine are wonderful with layaways too & fairly flexible if you need extra time between layaways.

Agreed, if she had the hooves I'd be tempted too. Either that or I wish her ear and horn parts were available separately so I could have my other Dear Lovers disguise themselves a reindeer at Christmas :kitty1 That would be cute ^^

    41. I did suggest the layaway option to him and he was tempted, but he just can't justify paying over $700 for such a small doll. He has two other girls from different companies and even with conversion, neither of them cost him more than $550, and that's even including the shipping. Right now we're both saving for a house so it's just something he's not willing to drop so much money on. He does hope they re-release her in the future, and he's quite happy to stalk the second hand marketplace.

    42. @Quiet and Insane good luck with the house savings, I hope all goes well there :) Hopefully then they do re-release her in the future when money is available (and hopefully the exchange rate goes back to what it was like a couple of years ago ^^) or she can be found of a good price 2nd hand :kitty2

    43. Oh, I understand you and him about the house. I really hope you will get her in any case in the future!

Really? What a great news! I want Loc castle version but there is no way they will release him again, so I am waiting for any Loc release and will save money for him :whee:

    44. Thank you! I really do hope the exchange rate calms down a little, it's just far too excessive right now. He's quite happy to wait for a re-release/finding one on the marketplace, my fiance is so much more patient than I!

      Thank you!

    45. By the way, about layaway options, could you please tell me, I must ask it in Q&A or from the email? I want to order grey Koon :)

    46. I asked in the Q&A when I put my Nocturne on layaway last year. you'll have to 'lock' the thread though, that way personal details can only be seen by you and Dear Mine.

    47. Thank you very much for your answer, you really help me!

    48. You're quite welcome! :)
