Creature Doll! Armored Beauties ready for Adventure

Feb 26, 2017

    1. It doesn’t work well for creating the wig base, and I haven’t tried it for making wefts, so far the book binder glue was best for attaching the wefts, it’s a little thicker and less drippy than my school glue :)

    2. @skyealloway - Absolutely gorgeous! :aheartbea This is her best look yet. Incredible that this is yarn, because it looks like the really fine hair used in synthetic mohair wigs.

When I tried to create wefts like this, I ended up with a plastic bag full of what looks like orange cotton candy--and much shorter wefts than I started out with. I used a plastic brush. Maybe I should have used a comb?

    3. @vermont chick yes I always have a pile of fluff left over too..that I just keep saving because you never know! My wefts wind up a lot shorter but overall the max hair length I can achieve is about mid shoulder blades which I think is ok. I use a fairly dense brush. Definitely not a good choice for super long hair. I think next I’ll either do a rainbow wig in the style of my very first wig, or a black with green highlights wig in a new style :XD:

    4. Oo, I've always loved blue/white hair. A nice choice for that dress! ^_^ Is that blonde in there too, or am I seeing something else?
(Currently hunting for possible furniture for my girls on ebay...)

    5. @Sianserais no blonde...green! a pale green with a more yellowy hue. Ohoh have you seen this store: fr-27 | eBay Stores

It's been in my watch list forever...I keep being too broke to order anything, but I like the style and I think the scale is right!

    6. Ah, okay! And yes, actually, one of my JIDs is sitting on a chair from them! Only one I've bought so far, but definitely worth looking at again.

    7. @skyealloway - both wig ideas sound great. I can't wait to see what you do with them.

A small part of my fluff pile is destined for a short flocked wig for one of my guys. Fingers crossed that this works.

I followed your link to the doll furniture. Wow! I love much of what I see. Just what I needed--another demand on my doll money. Do you suppose the furniture maker uses a laser saw? Some of the detail is just so intricate. My elves want a throne!

    8. Gosh I would love some of the chairs. The chairs I have are OK (thrift store find) but the scale is off, more suitable for a standard YoSd really.

    9. All I did was follow the link to ebay and now ebay is emailing to ask if I'd like to place a bid.

@Sianserais - What was the shipping like from Russia? I always hesitate buying from there because it can take a long time for the package to arrive.

    10. Not one of ebay's more endearing updates. I can't find an option to stop those emails specifically, either, just a general "promotion" setting. Seriously, guys, if I was interested in the item, I would have put it on my watch list!

Anyway,... unfortunately, it's been a while, and I can't remember how long it took for certain. I don't recall having any complaints about it, though. I just ordered a chair and table set from them, so I'll let you know how it goes!

    11. @Sianserais - great! I look forward to seeing them and to learn how long they took to reach you. I'm wondering if they have a chair/throne that won't look dwarfed by the taller MSD guys like Raccoon and Magic Mirror's soon-to-be-released Levon.

And here is some Karin spam, because Karin just received a Skyealloway original wig and couldn't wait to show it off:

    12. The color suits her! Can I ask what that background is? It's a nice scale for this size.

And... this one looks a bit more substantial at least?
I'm tempted by the dragons on this one though.

    13. My background is something I picked up at JoAnn Fabrics a few years ago. I never saw anything like it there again, so I suspect it was a special order where the person didn't want the entire bolt. The printed edge has this info: "CP49473 Reluctant Companion Birch Woods, (C) Wild Wings, LLC by Rosemary Millette for Springs Creative Products Group, LLC, 2014." I have similar fall and winter fabrics--in pretty much the same scale--from other companies that I found online.

Love that Gothic throne. The size should work well for the bigger guys, who probably won't even need the footrest. The Viking throne is wicked cool, but looks small even for the Tonner doll seated on it. I wish the maker would invest in a BJD or two for size comparisons. She might make more sales that way.

    14. Ah, well, a lucky find, then! Thanks for the info - I looked up the company, but no sign they still make that specific print (and it's not like I could buy directly from them anyway).

And all of this reminds me that I haven't finalized the names for my twins yet.

    15. Karin and Lucia have met a gorgeous hunk of elf man from Raccoon Doll. Here they are with Kai (henceforth to be known as Kestral because I used to know an afghan hound named Kai):

    16. Interesting - his sculpt and Lucia's look like they'd work as siblings!

    17. They probably would. I'm struck by how pissy both Karin and Kestrel look.

    18. Karin and Kestrel again, just because...

    19. I saw these on Flickr first and I just love them as a pair :D

    20. Thanks! I'm so glad I bought the dress when Creature Doll offered it, because it really helps place them in the same world. And luckily I had heel feet and high heel shoes for her; even with heels she's still way shorter than he is.

    21. It’s making me very anxious to get my Granado Lucifer and my Raccoondoll Iris! Saireth is a bit lonely by herself...

    22. I thought you had more than one elf already. Are the other Creature Dolls human?

    23. [IMG]

Well, the smaller-eyed version of Lucia definitely looks a bit more appropriate with Dane.

      • x 3
    24. No other elf’s, just my Mei head that occasionally steals her body.

@Sianserais you think so? I saw your gallery posted but I guess I didn’t notice. I’ll have to look again.

    25. Love that photo, @Sianserais ! Is it the natural light, I wonder, that makes your dress look a truer blue than mine? Mine is almost navy. Dane looks scrumptious.:love

    26. Well, I'm not saying it's such a huge difference as to look bad, just that it definitely gives my modded girl a different feel. But then those eyes Dane came with are absolutely TINY! I had a heck of a time readjusting them. I suppose if I gave my girls small-iris eyes it would reduce that effect.

Pretty sure it's just the sunlight, because it's a very dark blue in truth. Not sure if I really like the sepia wig on him, but he definitely looks good in LB!

    27. I received my Raccoondoll elf iris yesterday, Soo-min. I gotta say, my first impression is that I love my Creaturedoll more, but I like the variety she adds to my collection. Taewong Park just did not overlook any details when he designed Creaturedolls :( I should have bought all of them!

    28. wait racoondoll has a gray skin option?

    29. Oo, is she blue or is that just the lighting? I really like that wig and the circlet on her in any case! Does she have a place in Saireth's story yet?

Also, I finally got my 1/4 scale furniture yesterday, but the box arrived looking like this.
Several pieces (the top of the table and two of the chair-arms) had popped loose, but thankfully the pieces themselves were undamaged, and I was able to glue them back on, good as new. I did contact the seller just to suggest better packaging.
Also, @vermont chick was right to wonder about the shipping - they supposedly shipped 09/01, but didn't get here until 10/23, the very last day of the wide estimate I was given. Yikes. Still, they're very nice for what they are!

Not-so-great photo of the furniture by itself. (I need somewhere to take photos other than the floor.)

    30. i thik i have furniture for my crew from the same seller and yes it was poorly packed. had to reglue the table and one chair...

    31. @Uminari yeah the grey option is new, I think Iris was the first doll offerered in the new grey.

@Sianserais yeah it has a blueish tone to it, it’s definitely grey but with a blue tint. I’m not great at stories so we will see what happens! Hah.

Congrats on the furniture, the gals look comfy. That’s a bummer about the packaging, but I’m glad there was no damage.

    32. she looks stunning in grey... seems i need to watch them more closely

    33. This being the Creature Doll thread, I probably shouldn't mention how gorgeous Raccoon Iris is. (Oh, look, I just did.) I'm betting the blue dress lends a bluer tone to her skin than is really there. The girls look good together and will probably look even better once Soo-min gets her face-up.

@Sianserais - I like the scale of that furniture, although I wouldn't mind if it were a teeny bit bigger. As for the box photo--yikes! Looks like the package was simply tossed onto a container ship for the voyage.

I always set up for photos on my dining table. The width of the table limits the scene somewhat, but I'm more comfortable walking around the table to take pics than crawling on my stomach around the floor.

    34. hahaha i also use our dining table for photos (but more because i can´t stand up alone anymore)

    35. I have one of those folding tables that I set up in the guest room. I have fold it up and put it away when we have company and need to put the air mattress up, but it’s really nice to not have to put things on the ground with tiny hands and pets always wanting to know what I’m doing haha

    36. Yeah, I usually just sit on a yoga cushion and have the camera on an extendable tripod, but it works better with the 1/3-scale dolls. Theoretically, I could carry everything (including the lighting) upstairs and use the table in the library/laundry room, if it wasn't stacked high with boxes that have nowhere else to go. We downsized when we moved here, so we don't have room for everything as it is. And I can't use the guest room because my mother sleeps there.
But oh well, first-world problems.

    37. This past week was crazy! My Lucifer (ordered in April) arrived, Soo-min (ordered in August) arrived, and Saireth's new pet reanimated Chupacabra skeleton (ordered in September) arrived!
[IMG]Chupacabra in a Can by Skyealloway, on Flickr.
I can't tell you how much I love this chupacabra skeleton...it's the perfect pet for Saireth.

      • x 2
    38. That sure is an interesting skeleton, @skyealloway--I haven't seen one of those before. Something tells me Saireth shouldn't turn her back on him--not with those teeth.

    39. @skyealloway - oh, I like those 3D skeletons and wondered how they'd look with various size dolls. so glad you posted a photo of one.
I always worried they'd be too fragile. they all seem so fine-boned. :aeyepop: very Halloween.

sure wish Creatures Dolls was still in business. I love my angsty Karin. glad I bought clothes and extras.

    40. @petiteballerine yeah I think this guy was in my wishlist for at least a year, glad I finally pushed “buy”.

I was looking at the two dresses I have and they share a similar design when I look at the seams on the inside. I know my designs won’t be as good as Park’s, but I might try to come up with a pattern and make similar dresses.

    41. oh guys i got pictures of my Karin from her fu artist and dang she looks stunning. was worth the wait <3

    42. Oh, I love space-themed dolls! You've definitely made her unique!

    43. @Uminari - Wow! That makeup is unique and really cool. I can't wait to see her all put together with body, wig and costume.

    44. She’s fantastic! The constellation idea is very unique

    45. thank you all <3 When she arrived it was like with the doll in my avatar.. i had other plans but the doll wanted something cpmpletly else. I don´t know yet what eyes she will be getting or wig. For the wig i lean torwards a side shaved black and grey ombre wig from SophyMolly (i love the 3 wigs i already have from her and want to order anyways for an incoming doll). For eyes maybe completly black or universe glittery one.

    46. Alright I finally did it - I took the plunge and ordered this body to try to hybrid with my poor floating Mei Doll Parts, Doll Family - BJD Dolls, Accessories - Alice's Collections
She seems fairly low priced (comparatively) so I won't feel terrible if I need to sand down the neck or something. I think the measurements will work OK. Creature doll's gals vs DF-A VII gal
      neck 6.5 vs 6.3
      shoulder 9 vs 8.8
      chest 19.9 vs 19
      waist 12.2 vs 12.6
      hip 21.6 vs 19.5

So I feel pretty confident the head wont look out of proportion...just kind of depends on how the head rests on top of the neck I think....oh and if the colors are totally off :doh Fingers crossed, the wait beings!

      • x 2
    47. It looks like a nice body. The all-important neck measurements look very close. And if the colors don't quite match, she can wear different scarves around her neck. :thumbup

    48. haha good idea. I made a photoshop mockup, looks good to me! Hybrid

    49. Looks like it might work. It will be interesting to see when you put the head on the body and get her dressed.

    50. That does sound like it should be a decent match. Good luck and be sure to share pics when you get it!

    51. This is truly beautiful. Can't wait to see her with eyes, hair and full costume.

    52. I'd also love to see how Karin is coming along, @Uminari
I'm trying to share photos but I'm not sure its working like it used to? Can anyone see this photo?

    53. @skyealloway - I don't see your photo. But then, I don't see any photos from people using Flickr. I usually select only the part of the string between the img tags. Since that isn't showing up, I'm trying the full string below:
[IMG]Creature Doll Mei vignette by Lorraine, on Flickr

Very weird. It doesn't show up in the message, but when I hit edit to add this comment, there it was.

    54. I can see your picture! Mine is still missing. Sigh. Hello Mei! I’m so excited to finally put mine on a body. I think maybe 3 months to go!

    55. Flickr seems to have fixed whatever ailed it yesterday. I see your pic now. It's very small, but I like how she looks. Love her sweater!

    56. My doll family A ver2 body just arrived for my Mei head! And it fits! She does not have as much neck mobility as the original creature doll body... but it’s actually just as good as raccoondoll. The neck is a tad too long as well, so when my busy season at work is done I will probably mod it and try to make the shape more match the original body so her mobility is better.

Other thoughts? The hands are rough compared to the beautiful sculpting on the creaturedoll hands, and the forearm is too think to substitute creaturedoll hands or doll chateau hands.

The body itself is not in the realistic category. But I still like it, the torso, upper arm and thigh are all thoughtfully shaped. Overall her posing is really good.

So if you have an extra head lying around and don’t like your dolls to share, I think just a tiny mod and this is a good option!

Hopefully I’ll have time for pics this weekend :)

    57. Picture Time!
I went ahead a made a comparison thread here:
      /threads/df-a-vs-raccoondoll-vs-creature-doll-msd.800734/

I am in love. Not as in love as I am with the original creature doll, but still really happy with my hybrid. Having spent more time with her, I may not change the neck after all. The hands though....the hands need to be switched. My spare Creature Doll hands and Doll Chateau hands were a no-go; the wrist joint is too thick so it looks off. So now i have to dolls that need new hands (don't care for my raccoondoll's hands either ) :sigh

She looks really good in my Creature Doll clothes though!
[IMG]Creature Doll Mei by Skyealloway, on Flickr

And there they go, switching up my ideas again! I thought for sure Mei would be the enchantress, and Saireth would be the warrior, but now I think they've done flipped it on me! Man she sure needs hands to grip a sword though...

      • x 4
    58. Sorry to hear about the hands, but she looks good otherwise! I think the dress and wig (and sword) suit her. ^_^
