Hello! I ordered the Doll Family - A MSD girl body version 2 for a floating Creature Doll head i had (the Creature Doll company went belly up ;_; ) and I am compelled to compare the results to my Raccoondoll Slim Large Bust gal grey Elf Iris and my original Creature Doll Phyllis. First, a few photos of just the DF-A body, as I don't see many of those around yet: Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr Stands pretty good, although more stable with legs slightly apart. Love the soft sculpting of her abdomen. Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr I like her leg joints. She is easy to sit down and her double jointed knee is well hidden when not in use so it's not an eyesore. Her elbow is not so graceful, but functions well. Her chest joint has limited range. Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr This is the only doll I have that can do this pose - with her legs all the way back. Pretty cool! very sturdy as well. Ok now that we know what we are starting with, on-ward to the comparisons! First - vs. raccoondoll! Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr A bit tricky to photograph with the two different colored resins so DF-A is a bit washed out. Neck is overall similar. Shoulders on Raccoondoll much more relaxed. Certainly the breasts are different but neither is better than the other. Raccoondoll's hands are too small, but DF-A is a touch too big when paired with that small head. The abdomen I prefer DF-A. Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr That's each gal looking as far down as she can (equal range), with her arm bent as much as it would hold (slightly better on DF-A), with the wrist flexed as much as it would hold (DF-A definitly wins here, Raccoondoll's wrist does not hold a flexed position at all). Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr Last direct comparison for these two - the best? most natural? sitting poses that I could get out of each. Ok so I know almost no one actually owns a Creature Doll since the company only existed for a year, so I won't go into a typed analysis of my comparisons too much. These were mostly for my benefit! Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr I love the contrast of the different ears here lol. Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr Backup dancers! Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr Popstars! Doll Family A MSD Ver 2 by Skyealloway, on Flickr Girl's night! This photo is interesting because i had to pop the Raccoondoll's joint (you can see the gap under her chest) to get her to hold this. DF-A can't pop her chest, her torso is built with an extra piece inside to prevent her top from sliding around much. And Creature Doll is just my favorite (bias) Overall I'm glad I took a chance on the DF-A body for my Creature Doll Mei head. My faceup is too yellow which primarily drives the color difference, and I may one day sand the neck a tad, but really she's on par with Raccoondoll in a lot of ways. Thanks for looking and listening to my ramble!
Nice review! The only real gripes I have with the DF-A body are the ugly elbows and the non-functioning torso joint. I find my girl just poses really stiff, but that could also be that she's strung too tight. It's nice to see the body with a more realistic sculpt on it though. It looks more suitable than the baby-faced DF-A Anasta I have.
I understand! I think df-a added a inner piece after shooting the promo pictures because my gal certainly can not tilt at the torso joint like as advertised.....but! I think maybe there is an opportunity to mod to make that happen.
Great comparison pics! Overall my favorite body of the 3 is the original Creature Doll, sadly no longer available. Does your Raccoon Doll have the glamour (original) body or the slim body? I don't have one in a state of undress where I can compare poses, but posing might differ slightly depending on which body it is. In spite of having both, I rarely coax challenging poses out of them because for the most part they only model clothes. The DF-A body looks like an acceptable alternative. Personally, I don't care for the squared off elbows or the sharp shelf over the flexed knee, although I love that she can sit back on her heels. The wide shoulders and ginormous chest make the body look top heavy compared to the narrower hips. You can definitely see the Iplehouse aesthetic in Creature Doll and Raccoon. Like you, I find their hands disproportionately small while DF-A's are too large. When it comes to elf ears, however, Creature Doll rules!
@vermont chick iris has the slim body but large bust. The squared off shoulders on DFA are disconcerting, almost as if she’s holding her breath, sucking in her stomach. But with the right style of clothes on it is not noticeable, I could see her body shape working really well with a corseted outfit.
It does. She looks like an avid Crossfitter with implants. (It's more apparent in person than in pics) It would be nice if they made a smaller bust option though. Her lower torso is actually pretty nice.
It's too bad Creature Doll is gone! The hip joints look pretty visually pleasing while posing well from what I can tell.
@Mutation I agree! I wish I had been in a place financially to buy all the Creature Dolls during the year the shop was open. The hip joints has interesting internal gear assembly that holds sturdy poses without compromising the look.
