Theme comicbook/superhero/villain/graphicnovel-inspired dolls - cosplay

Jan 25, 2008

1. And as long as you keep posting pics of your dolls, I will keep commenting on how freakin' amazing they all are! :D:thumbup

After watching Birds of Prey, I did some research on Punchline. Google only told me that she was the "opposite of Harley," and had a few pics of her.

Love your Joker and Punchline, btw! :3nodding:

3. Welp, it finally happened! I finally managed to find a Doll Chateau Elizabeth and have the money to be able to get her! So, I'm going to make her into someone I've wanted to create ever since these dolls first came out.

Natasha is home!
by Ryuichi Sakuma, on Flickr

Introducing Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow! Here's her box opening, in case anyone's interested. :XD:

She's going to keep the faceup (I really love it, so I'm reluctant to have it redone), but I'm hoping to be able to make her at least one of the outfits from one of the MCU movies. So, right now I'm googling pics of Scarlett Johansson, looking up eyes and researching wigs to try and find one that will work.

Anyone have any ideas where I can find this wig? I'm afraid of getting a longer one and cutting it, as I have no haircutting experience. :sweat

4. Can I just say I love this idea, and can't wait to see how she turns out?? I mean seriously, how fun!!!

As for a wig, the only thing I can think of is completely unhelpful since it's a Monique wig and would need to be cut....and you don't want to cut a wig, and Monique has almost nothing left due to going out of business. But their carrot color in the ginger style cut short would be perfect (I cut one and before I boiled it, it looked pretty much like that)

Are you going to paint the spider body like a real black widow??

5. :spider:Monique Charlene in double red is pretty spot on for my 1/3 Natasha, no cutting required! :wiggle I have a few in different sizes, and the length and curl pattern seems more or less uniform for each size. Not gonna be easy finding one at this point though, my usual wig haunts don't seem to have a 6/7 in red (I think Elizabeth takes a 6/7?)...maybe set up an eBay alert in case somebody lists one?

6. I'd love to get Natasha a Monique wig, but since they're going out of business, I'm really doubtful they'll have what I need anymore. :( I did love their selection, even if only one of My Crew has one of their wigs. I've seen them on other people's BJDs, and they looked pretty sweet!

I'm still debating on what and how I'm going to do her body. Part of me would love to try and make her an outfit, that way I can change it any time I want, or even put more regular clothes on her. Part of me also wanted to try and dye her, but I think I want to keep her the nice, creamy white she is. So, I'm really leaning towards making her an outfit. I'm more than likely going to put the hourglass on her underside, since that's not what most people will look at when they see her!;):spider::whee:

Yes, Natasha wears a 6/7 wig. I just checked the Monique site, and you're correct, they're sold out. I think I'm going to do what I usually do when I'm looking for a wig, and look around at many sites. It also is an excuse to look for things I need for other dolls too! But thank you for the ideas!

I'm going to take my time turning Natasha into the Black Widow. I'm enjoying looking around for things for her, but when I find or make something for her, I'm going to update it here. I hope you all don't mind, since I'm pretty sure it'll take a while to do, and I more than likely won't update fast enough to create a project journal.:sweat

7. Ok so I've started a new nerdy little doll side project that I feel can loosly fall into this thread as the source character is comic book version inspired...

Back Ground info for context of what level nerdy we are talking. I grew up on She-Ra and He-Man, heck the original She-Ra came out in 1983, the year I was born so Princess Adora and I are the same age /shocked face. Anyway as said I grew up on the those cartoons, but more then that I also love the old Marvel comics, the new DC comics, the Masters of the Universe live movie, The newer 2000s He-Man cartoon, the new LGBTQ friendly She-Ra Cartoon, etc.

Needless to say I'm a fan boy, now in the last few years DC has done some great He-Man comics and one sparked an idea for a second doll based on something from He-Man and She-Ra. (Yes I said second my first doll based on such is Prince Zed, Horde Prime's elf like son, my version is a young adult vs the child he was in the original She-Ra) Anyway nerd level accounted for, I read the He-Man Masters of the Multiverse comics (by DC) and I fell in love with the idea of Prince Keldor as a hero.

Now some of you might go that name sounds familiar, (some wont) and maybe one or two of you already will know who Keldor is. The basics of it are Prince Keldor is brother to King Randor, making him Prince Adam/He-Man and Princess Adora/She-Ra's uncle. However his real name is very rarely used, he is better known as Skeletor. Yes that's right Skeletor, ol'bone brain himself.

So here my nerdy self is starting a project to make the one good/heroic version of Skeletor in the Multiverse into a BJD.
Weirdly the project is coming along nicely though doll is still on layaway. I have in SD scale metal prop of Skeletor's havoc staff from Sideshow toys, and a pre-order for his purple sword too. I've gotten Keldor a white plan shirt, and purple hooded robe like jacket. Oh and I have this skull faced doll mask, that the face remind me of Skeletor so much I count it the first spark of this silly project. And before it slips my mind my Prince Keldor will be a DF-H General Beilan in the limited blue skin they did last fall.

Comic spoilers I wont be scarring my version's face to match his comic book self, but then it's my own version of the character I can reinvent it some for sake of imagination and such.
So yeah that's one of my new doll projects, and as soon as he's home I'll post pix here. (and god help me I'm debating someday making a Prince Adam too.)

8. @Tippetarius wow that is an undertaking! I was a huge He-Man fan when I was wee, but that didn't carry over to adulthood (I can only obsessively obsess over one thing at a time, maybe three, but that's stretching things), mostly because my mom sold all my He-Man and She-ra toys when I was a kid without telling me. I am still bitter.

So basically I only know the bare minimum of history - other than the She-Ra remake which I absolutely LOVED. But what you're going to do sounds like fun! I can't wait to see pics!!

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 I don't think anyone will mind some progress photos posted here! :)

The only newness I have atm is this photo I've posted a million times (I did make a project journal, but mostly because it helps me to write out everything I'm thinking when trying to decide how to handle a project), and I feel I should post something since it's a picture thread!

Some of my DC girls for comparison as I just got the Rainman July head and I plan to turn her into Zatanna. They're all roughly the same proportion and size, so I'm happy.

9. Wow, @Tippetarius, that's some undertaking! And now, I feel really old, since I remember watching the first run of both He-Man and She-Ra.:sweatI can't wait to see how this project turns out, be sure to post pics/links, okay?

@VampireAngel13, those heads look amazing! I'm not familiar with the source, but them being the same approximate size looks like it'll work.

And like you said, this is a pic thread, so here's the shirt Natasha's currently wearing (along with the stand that's holding her upright.:sweat)

She's wired, so that, along with her modded feet means I can't have her sit, at least I haven't figured out how to do it yet.*_*

10. She's so cute! I love Elizabeth, I used to own one (he was my original Scarecrow, on a DC Kid body before I moved onto 70cm DC dolls instead of Minis), and sometimes I miss him! Have you figured out how to make her sit yet? How is she wired? Wiring shouldn't keep her from sitting...it's supposed to help posing XD

also I finally took pictures of a mostly finished Batman --

[IMG]detective2 by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

I got a 3D printer for my birthday this year and once I get good at it, I plan to make him better gauntlets. Also going to make all of Superior Spider-Man's accessories so he can be a real doll! I'm excited! So far I've done nothing XD

• x 11
11. No, @VampireAngel13, I haven't figured out how to have her sit yet. I've kind of been focusing on finding her a wig. For me, that's one of the important things, proper wig and eyes. It helps me "see" the character better when they have them.

Your Batman is so cool! How do you put his hood on, it looks like it might be two parts that fit together, but I could be wrong.

I'm not familiar with "Superior Spider-Man," but I bet he's badassed! Get to work, I wanna see him!

I really would love to keep Natasha's faceup, but now I'm torn. To me, she doesn't quite look like Natasha Romanoff with her current faceup, yet I do so love it. What to do, what to do...?*_*:?:nowords:

Again, because this is a pic thread, here's a pic of Natasha's current faceup and flower eyes. Of course, I will be changing out the eyes to Scarlett Johansson's green, but for now, they'll do.

12. So, I fell down the DC Universe rabbit hole super hard over the last... uh... 4 months maybe. So, at the moment, the only loser completed is Klarion Bleak, who's dating my classy God of Fate, Ellie. Which is how this whole thing started, quite in the way my 20 year obsession with Lord of the Rings Started: My rp got to the point where she was playing everyone and I was real interested in helping and knew nothing, so... TIME FOR RESEARCH. And research I did super hard.

So Klarion:

I also sort of have the beginnings of Colin Wilkes as a younger kid, he's just waiting for red hair.

Jason Todd is coming in the Fall, provided I secure the fundage. He's gonna be an Iplehouse EID Rex on the Super Hero Body, because he's technically huge. <3 I kinda of have a thing for the Robins.

• x 3
13. @Elendae_Nersil I think I saw and liked the doll profile you have for your version of Klarion.

And as I have not posted in this thread in a while seems as good of time as any to post some pix my Klarion Bleak doll

So here is Klarion Bum bum bum The Witch Boy, being totes unamused by his action figure. (The Bum bum bum thing is a ref to the Sin's of Youth cross over event DC did forever ago.)

And here he is judging the figure harshly, having just stolen mini Teekl as his own, because I had at that time not gotten him an in scale version of his cat.

• x 7
14. @Tippetarius I love your boy! He's much closer to the canon version of him. Mine's a little off-kilter, cause he's older and heavily influenced by the rp. He looks like he is not a fan of the DC figure of himself. I love it!

• x 1
15. I had debated getting a teenaged looking doll in blue to be his older self as Klarion Bleak has a few versions in DC. In the end I mixed how he looked in Young Justice Sin of Youth and Young Justice the cartoon, with touches from his older blue self like his eye make up.

Since I took the above pix I have gotten him a Teekl of his own, and new black shoes. Note to self take new photos of my DC dolls... And my Marvel ones for that matter.

16. I may have mentioned this before, but I'm using this thread as a Projects thread for Natasha aka Black Widow.

Natasha's wig came this week, and its pretty good.

Natasha's new wig
by Ryuichi Sakuma, on Flickr

Unfortunately, the MCU's Black Widow doesn't have bangs, which was another reason I originally wasn't sure about this wig.

But for now, it works. At least Natasha's no longer bald.

17. Behold his royal majesty Prince Keldor of the house of Greyskull, the half Gar son of King Miro, younger brother of King Randor. Warrior, mage, hero. Keldor is also one of the many "masters of the universe", and one of the saviors of the Multiverse. Oh and the current He-man of his world/universe "Anti-Eternia".

So this is my doll of Prince Keldor of Anti-Eternia the lone good version of Skeletor/Keldor in the Multiverse.
He still needs some work like his nails painted, and some outfit parts and props, but so fair so good on this project.

18. So, besides Klarion, I have Bart and Thad Allen.

My friend writes them in the rp, but I love them so so much. Klarion does NOT like Bart, because Ellie and Bart basically had a one-night stand and Klarion's a little possessive when it comes to Ellie.

• x 2
19. .... Did Someone say Bart Allen and Thaddeus Thawne?
Cuz my second ever male doll (my 4th doll) was Thaddeus, and Bart soon followed. This is a pretty old photo of the boys since this they both have gotten way nicer wigs, and better eyes.
I have RPed as Thaddeus on and off for like 15 years (and once or twice as Bart too) I have owned Thad's doll version for almost 13 years. In fact my doll of him will be 13 years old on Halloween this year. (I've been in the hobby now 14 years wow O.O)

I also have a sort of second "what if?" version of Thaddeus based on the idea what if Thad had gotten his hands on the Cobalt Blue Gem that is an evil magical heirloom of the Thawne family. (go on and fall down that google rabbit hole.)
Anyway here is a nicer newer photo of Bart and Thad, with Cobalt.
Please note Thad still gets punchy when his "DNA donor" touches him. #evilclonelife

20. YOU GUYS
MOON KNIGHT!!!!
I've known they were doing the MK show since D+ debuted but seeing the trailer (ok so I saw it weeks ago but still) made it real and I am dying I can't wait. Between that and the The Batman movie March can't get here soon enough.

anyway, the show kicked my butt into gear and I am finally motivated to make MKs costume

it is coming along nicely.

[IMG]Moon Knight by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

This was his prototype cape that I made to make sure my pattern worked. Apparently i can make capes. That's it. Just capes.

[IMG]Moon Knight by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

[IMG]Moon Knight by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

it is crescent-shaped because he's ridiculous like that (Batman does it - serious business. Moon Knight does it - hot mess)

[IMG]Moon Knight by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

[IMG]Moon Knight by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

I am currently using some fabric stiffener on his hood to keep its shape (after I sewed snaps on...which was hard), and making all his stupid crescent-shaped armor patterns digitally so I can cut them out on my cricket. I need to order him new hands (from Iple since Luts doesn't actually make anything for the SSDF body), and eventually rework his hair because I hate it. But he's coming along really nicely, and I feel bad that I have been procrastinating on him for 5 years now. At least he's had his Mr. Knight outfit.

sad pic of him from a million years ago at a convention

[IMG]IMG_0864 by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

I swear there's a BJD under there....

I'm planning on doing the all white costume too, but the black and white one seemed easier, due to the lack of belt and boots (boots are hard, he has EID/Dollmore Glamor model sized feet....but I got some I can paint off Dollmore) so I thought I'd try it first.

21. @VampireAngel13 I barely know anything about Moon Knight, but like all your comic book dolls he looks great and I recognized him right away. I love the hood and cape, I really need to up my game on things like that for my own comic book based dolls (and a few D&D ones)

In other news kinda related to theme of this thread. Keldor was a gateway doll help, I am making my Iplehouse Kali into the Anti Eternia version of Evil Lynn so just Lynn I guess.
And I might maybe have ordered a Doll Zone Merlin to make into a combo of all my favorite versions of Prince Adam. Add to that my She-Ra fan needs demand if I make Adam I need to make Adora. (My inner child will cry and yell at me forever otherwise.) I am also looking at ideas for a Teela to go with Adam.... So that is a thing, lesson here kids never let your fandoms merge. XD

22. @Tippetarius most people don't know anything about Moon Knight so you've still got an advantage lol
Usually I get a "who?" or a "what's a moon night?". And thanks! I just hope I can add the armor as easily as the hood and cape came together. I made the pattern for them (literally all crescents. That's all they are) but my cricut blade wasn't sharp enough to cut the foam, so I have to wait for a new blade. I tried cutting the pieces out myself....they are not good. But they should work if cut out nicely by a machine and not me.

Yeah lol that's why most of my fandoms only require one doll (other than DC, I only have two Marvel dolls so they don't even count), like Link or Manji from Blade of the Immortal (both are very in progress) and I feel no need to have more dolls in within their worlds. Which is good because I don't really want more! I say as I literally just bought another doll a few days ago D:

• x 1
23. Oh, he's really coming along! Love that cape!

• x 1
24. Thank you!! I was hoping to get him done by this weekend, but it's not going to happen. I keep running into snags lol.
But he's super-close!

[IMG]Moon knight by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

I have to paint his hands (they're about half done) and glue more armor to them. One more piece for his legs, and then figure out some way to do his shoes....which I'm also glueing on like his armor. fun times.

Then decide if I want to proceed with his white outfit.

EDIT: oops i forgot I haven't added the shoulder pieces yet either. They're very round and kind of hard. I don't know why I thought this was easier than the all white one. I was wrong. So very wrong.

25. Moon Knight's looking damn good so far. I really like the chest piece.

My S.O. and I got a pretty basic 3D printer. Once we get over the learning curve for making our own objects in the modeling programs, I'm going to try to tackle making J2 his helmet with it. Also one of our first prints with it was a doll prop. Keldor now has an in scale can of spray paint. I still need to paint it and add a fake label to finish it, but as is a really cool prop. I'm hoping in the long run to be able to make lots of armor and other cool props for my dolls.

• x 2
26. Not his best picture probably, but one of my dolls is supposed to be Doctor Strange from Marvel from an alternate dimension I've been writing for a while.
I have made his outfit from the 'Death of Doctor Strange' comic (I'm not a seamstress in any way but I somehow managed to make something wearable) and the Cloak of Levitation myself (plus a scarf and a bracelet in the same colors so he can wear it camouflaged). I even got a in-scale Eye of Agamotto done for him from a local Etsy store, and I've been wanting to give him the Axe of Angarrumus for a while, but that's a prop for another time xD
