Comic/Manga Before the show... (Dollzone Yue, DIM Squall Leonhart)

Feb 10, 2018

    1. Previous chapter, where Duke first found out about Bevan...

Bevan: So that's your drummer there?
Tyler: Yeah... want me to tell him to shut up for a minute while we talk?
Bevan: No, it's okay. *listens* Wow... I'll be damned.
Tyler: He practices here at least four hours a day. EVERY day. Dodge had to give him a key to the back door. And he plays even when he's not here. He always has a practice pad and sticks with him in his car.

      Bevan: He's... phenomenal.
      Tyler: Yeah, he is.
Bevan: I can't believe it. *to himself* That little punk! I never would've... *aloud* Does he sing, too?
Tyler: Yeah. He's excellent. Good range, melody and harmony.

Bevan: You don't say. He sings too.
Tyler: Baritone. He has perfect pitch. He sings as well as I do, maybe better.
Bevan: A drummer with perfect pitch.
Tyler: Yeah. But I think you can tell, it's not the singing that does it for him. *grins*

Bevan: No, I guess not. Wow. He's rock steady. Great fills.
Tyler: Yeah. But we don't tell him how great he is very often. We don't want it to go to his head.
Bevan: *hmph* I bet he already knows.
Tyler: Seriously, he's not conceited about it. And we want to KEEP it that way.
Bevan: *wryly* Don't worry, I'll be the last to mention it.

Tyler: Anyway... you were saying -- Bevan, right?
Bevan: Yes. I, uh, heard your band might be looking for a bass player soon.
Tyler: *surprised* Huh! News travels fast! Did Matt tell you?
Bevan: Matt? No, I know Marjorie, she's a friend of Duke's.

Tyler: Ahh. *under his breath* Well, that explains it... *aloud* Yeah, we'll be looking for a new bass player. So you...?
Bevan: It's been a few years since I've been in a band. I used to play with Bombproof before they broke up, heard of them?
Tyler: Yeah! I remember them! I saw you guys open a couple of times at the Gorge, and even saw you play once or twice here in town.
Bevan: And before that, I was with Blackstrap for a couple of years, they played alternative country.
Tyler: Hmm, haven't heard of them. Are they still together?
Bevan: The lead singer and his girlfriend still perform as a duo in Seattle, but no, they're not a band any more.
Tyler: Hmm... are you still playing?

Bevan: You mean, am I keeping up? *smiles* Yeah, I practice about four hours a week just to keep up.
Tyler: After hearing Bombproof, I'd be happy for you to join on the spot, but we'll have an audition for you just to see if your style will work with us. And you can meet everyone. How about Wednesday afternoon?
Bevan: Sure. My schedule is... uh, kinda open right now.
Tyler: Great. What do you do?
Bevan: I just finished school for massage therapy, plus I used to be a yoga instructor. I taught other yoga instructors too.

Tyler: The rest of us still have full-time jobs too, we're not earning enough as a band yet. But we're hoping to get there.
Bevan: I've been out of the local band scene lately. You guys have a good following?
Tyler: I think we do. They're very loyal -- and vocal! Bambu is a dedicated venue for us. Dodge, the owner, books the gigs too, and he says we can play here twice a week for the rest of our lives if we want.

Bevan: Nice to be appreciated. So you have your own space here?
Tyler: Yeah, we have a secure room backstage for our gear. Some other bands play here too, but no one stays except us.
      Bevan: I like that.

Tyler: So do we. You're staying for the show, right?
      Bevan: Wouldn't miss it.
Tyler: Good! We'll talk to you after!
Bevan: Thanks, Tyler. Good to meet you.

Bevan: *to himself* Huh? Marjorie?? Damn...

      Bevan: *under his breath* Damn!

    4. Thanks, @SteamWitch!!

Thank you, @taykung! The camera angle was sort of a necessity, because I wanted it to look like a stage. I was pretty happy with how it turned out!
