Sewing Bareback top for SD

Jan 13, 2019

    1. If anyone wants to make this type of bareback top for their SD girls, here is my super basic pattern. I have no sewing skills and this is the first pattern I have ever made. Also, the fabric in the photo is the first time I ever made this top, and the fabric was made by the Devil Himself, I'm sure of it!

If you want the pattern, the link is below the photograph of Iris. Best if you can choose a knit fabric. Alter the pattern as needed for a better fit. I don't care if you create a proper pattern from it either - but if you do I would like a copy if it is based off this.

If you want it for MSD, this can be resized down to 67% of the original.

      Basic instructions

      1. Cut out front piece on fold. Cut 1 back piece. Cut 2 neck pieces. Cut 2 bottom pieces.
      2. Sew both neck pieces together and turn inside out.
      3. Sew both bottom pieces together and turn inside out.
      4. Hem open sides of the top (sides not being sewn to anything else)
      5. Sew the back piece to the front piece, seem right side in. Only do this on 1 side of the top.
NOTE: The next two steps can be tricky if you aren't used to this type of thing. Pin the pieces together to look at where your seem will be once sewn. Don't sew before you check your seem placement.
      6. Sew the bottom piece to the bottom of the top, seem right side in. You basically have to flip the piece UP and sew under it, so that when you fold it back down, the seem is on the right side.
      7. Sew the neck piece to the neckline, seem right side in. Placement and sewing is the same as the previous step.
      8. Sew the top together up the remaining side, seem right side in.
      9. Turn dress right way out, then fit your neck closures. I use velcro or snaps. Whatever I happen to find first in my mess.

Sorry these instructions suck. I am not crafty. Hopefully someone can find this useful, or take it and do something better with it.

    2. Good Lord, I apologise for all the spelling errors. Seem = seam. In my defense I am super tired. I'm sorry!

    3. Cute! Thank you for posting

    4. Thanks so much!

    5. @svc16 , any chance I can get you to update the reference photo (it's showing broken) or link one that has this pattern completed? I feel like I'm mostly following your instructions, just trying to follow how the seams should work on the neck and bottom pieces. :)
