An experiment in proportions (Iplehouse Vera in RS + Bliss and Carina)

    1. So the mail truck continued up past the mailboxes yesterday, triggering the usual question, "are you expecting a box?"
      No, I wasn't. There had been no notification, and it hadn't even been a month since I'd ordered her, yet here she was.

      I'd decided to take the risk of getting Vera on the SID body in hopes she could be the shell for my Carina's cousin. This is the character that I needed to swap genders on, so she's missing a name at the moment. For now, the jury is still out. If worst comes to worst, I'll get her an nYID body later, but she'll have to give up that particular role.

      She arrived as usual with a gorgeous faceup and very minor seams. One on her right shoulder appears to have been sanded a bit, but it's not that noticeable.
      Amusingly, they gave her green-gray eyes, which go nicely with her cousin's emerald ones.

      The head is a tight fit from side to side on the neck, but still works.

      I just went with her Type A faceup this time.
      The freckles aren't very noticeable, but that's fine by me.

      The smaller head has the effect of making the neck seem longer, I think.

      You can see there's still a gap from front to back, as normal.

      She stood perfectly fine for all of these photos with no support.

      Wearing the Misty Blanca set, sans underskirt. It fits well, though the zipper was a bit tough to get past the waist.

      I was going to show more wigs on her, but the first two were definitely too big, and then she claimed this one as her own.

      Comparison 1: with an nYID, the proportions don't look bad, actually.

      Comparison 2: Unfortunately, with an EID, the difference in head size is quite obvious.
      (Note that Vera is in flats and Carina in heels, but it isn't their height that is the issue.)

      For anyone else considering this, I suggest it may or may not work depending on what other dolls she'd be shown with.
      What do any of you think?

    2. Wow!!! She is AMAZINGLY beautiful!!! Congratulations!!! I am really really excited to get mine now!! :D

      I have to admit though... she looks a little odd on SID body which I thought she would look good on.... but she really only looks odd nude. When you put the white gown on her she didn't seem to look so bad... but honestly I think it's because the Misty Blanca set covers almost every part of her. I also think having the wig cover some of her neck and shoulders helps. I don't think she could wear the updo and look as good. She needs to have her hair down. But I think she could work .... and maybe with the "small bust"? I don't know... it's the neck/collarbone/shoulder area that looks so odd. The Misty Blanca set seems to eliminate that.

      But her faceup is gorgeous!! I love the freckles... they are perfect! I'm really excited now! Thank you for the pictures! Your Vera looks great in RS!

      I hope my Leeke wigs I bought will fit... I guess I can always take them in... She looks like she has a smaller head.

    3. Congratulations on Vera's early arrival! I think she's adorable. As usual with Iplehouse dolls, she reminds me of someone only I can't pinpoint whom.

      Personally, I would like her better on the nYID body. The SID neck is not only long but thick, considering the size of her head. It's less noticeable with a wig and clothing, but having seen her bald and naked I know the disproportion is there and it bothers me. Normally I don't offer criticism on a box opening thread, but you did ask...;) I'd be curious to see her wearing smaller size eyes.

      On another note, I am totally envious of your doll-sized four poster bed!

    4. Congrats! Your Vera is gorgeous! Every part of her face is just soo beautiful! :love

      She looks a bit off on the SID body but after you put the wig and outfit on, she looks much better and it kinda works somehow.

      She looks more realistic, like how a real person will look like. Either way, she looks stunning!:dance

    5. She looks lovely! Although I have to agree with the others, she looks a bit strange on the naked SID-body. Imo the head is too small for that body. With clothing it is much better though. Grats to your new girl and the superquick arrival!

    6. People do vary in head size a bit... But it can still look odd even in real life... people just expect heads to be closer in size, I guess.

      The neck does look a little large, but not really bad. I've seen worse fits on dolls that were meant to have that particular body. Again, I guess it's something that matters individually.

      She does have an amazing face and faceup! And definitely looks well in clothes and wig.

      I will admit looking at this picture.... she makes Carina look odd. (and I want to get Carina! yours is beautiful) So... it's strange... it's almost like I can't pinpoint what is not clicking... Bliss and her look okay. But her and Carina... I don't know.... it almost makes Carina look like she has a large head *_* Either way I think it's personal preference. You have helped a lot of people that wanted her on SIDW!

    8. Oh, wow! She's beautiful. Looking good in RS!

      I admit I think she looks fine on the SID body, but not as good as I had hoped she would. All in all, her head is rather small... Which I don't mind at all, I think it looks more natural than Carina does, if I am honest with myself, but...

      This is sad for me as I really wanted to get that head/body combination myself.
      And in my case Vera would be shown with Dream of Doll DOIs, so I think it is not going to work out. I will have to see if I can make the nYID body on high heeled feet work, but that's not for you to worry about ^^;

      Is her head still looking really small for an adult when on the nYID body, if you put her next to an EID or another large doll, if you don't mind me asking?

      Anyways, again, she is gorgeous and congratulations on having received her this fast! Please be sure to share more pictures of her in the future :D

    9. Thanks so much in posting your pictures! I have a Vera on an nYID body on layaway but I confess to being curious as to how she might have looked on an SID body. I am surprised (a little) at how lovely the "natural" makeup looks on her: I had thought it would be too pale, but your girl looks vibrant and fresh!

    11. I wonder if it's the photo or the fact that Vera is on an SID body, but her w/Carina does NOT look the way MY YID, SID girls, SID boy & EID guy & girl look when together. My crew just look like, you know, bunch of different sized people...

      She really is amazing and when seeing your pictures I'm really glad that I ordered a Vera for myself! I think she looks good on the SID body, especially with clothes and a wig on and she definitely works together with Bliss :)

      I think the head is technically not too small for the body, as far as real life ratios go, but her ratio in comparison to Carina's just looks strange. Unfortunately, that's the character she needs to look good with, so... I guess she'll be getting an nYID body when I get around to it. I'm not disappointed with her as a whole, though - she'll get another character soon enough!


      vermont chick & animerockstar: Sorry to tell you, but the bed and other furniture in those pics were all lucky finds on ebay. They're all salesman's samples that were marked down due to various problems (the poor bed is actually warped from head to foot - all four legs can never touch the floor at the same time, but I managed to reduce that a bit by steaming the wood with weights on it). But if you're willing to drop $100 or so on a quality piece, it's worth keeping an eye out there. I mean, considering what we pay for fullset outfits...       :sweat

      Kazegoroshi: I think with this head size she will always tend to look childlike next to an EID. Sorry!

      Dusk: In case you didn't know, Iple actually adjusts the colors of the faceups according to the resin, so you won't wind up with a strangely pale look on a darker doll unless you ask for it that way. ^_^

      Teleri: It's the difference in ratios between head and body sizes. Funny how our brains can be so sensitive to something that you might think isn't that big of a deal!

    14. I guess the main problem with Vera on the larger body is how small her facial features are. Because Bliss has small features as well, they look good standing next to each other. But Carina has large facial features so that's why it looks weird. They look like mother and daughter.

    16. I think she looks really good. The head size difference is a little noticeable, but in no way a deal breaker. Definitely very regal and mature looking.
