[Adopted] IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread Part 10

Aug 2, 2017

    1. I can't be the only one to get their November Facebook event head, right? I ordered and paid on 24th November but I don't know if I was amongst the first.

Occasionally I'll part with a wig. I don't tend to go for pastel colours so when I've received one in a lucky bag or whatever it gets moved on. But I think the first thing I do when I get a head is try on all the wigs. And then decide none of them are quite right and I need to order a new one. Same with eyes. I need a big selection so I can try them in my new doll and then reject them all and order some more and oh look this seller on eBay is doing buy three get one free. I've been experimenting with making eyes so now I'm going to have even more eyes knocking about because success means a pair of glass eyes I'm not using and failure means more odd-shaped or mismatched eyes cluttering up every available surface. That, the disembodied heads, the headless body, the Martin head on a girl Model body, the eyeless deer, the bag of hands and the occasional wig floating about...it's a wonder I don't have nightmares!

    2. A friend gave me a bunch of DIY eyes that didn't work for her guy size-wise and I'm having a hellacious time trying to resist the temptation of making ALL the eyes. I do not need more eyes floating around in my eye box but oh the temptation....

    3. It's addictive. I only bought three pairs of acrylic blank eyes to play around with but then I decided I could make my own bases out of polymer clay which is actually proving to be the tricky part. I can't actually roll a ball, I just end up with an egg shape if the egg had two little ends. So I bought a bead maker on the understanding that I can use it to make some jewellery at some point too (I haven't.) What really doesn't help is that I'm just inconsistently messing about so when I do end up with a single eye that I actually really like, not only do I not have one to match it, I also have no idea how I ended up with it. And what helps even less is when I leave a bunch of eyes on my bed (see earlier comment about all available surfaces already covered with eyes) and then knock them off without realising...maybe I could make a plot point about certain people having patchy purple scleras!

    4. Last week Idiot Cat knocked over the tray container that had the eyes, which reminded me that I had them (that whole out of sight, out of mind thing again). One of my guys has some nice DIY's I did (courtesy of the same friend) but as I was cleaning up the blanks, I got an Idea for a style/colour that would probably look really good/be very cool and now I wanna make them. But I know I won't make just the one pair. I have way too much doll craft stuff on the go already. I do not need to be adding in eyes.

    5. I have just ordered Aurora, I have been looking for clothes for her but can't find anything that I think would be suitable for her character. I imagine her as being more grown up than my other dolls and quite feisty!

    6. But on the plus side @Iron_Dog once they're made up eyes are easy to store and don't take up much space. I really shouldn't depress myself by listing all of my projects awaiting completion but there's a couple of outfits, a face up, body blushing for everyone, a guitar case, bunk beds for my tinies, a bookcase which needs decorating...the good thing with the eyes is they are quite easy to complete so I don't get disheartened halfway through. But I have a load of half-finished pairs lying around anyway!

@Zhaodan congrats on your Aurora! Sadly I can't help with clothes as I don't have any ladies her size but I hope you post some pics of her when she arrives. She's one of my faves. Have you ordered her with a faceup?

    7. *LOL* I have a headless dark tan old star woman body and have for well over a year now. I need to get her an Akasha head, but other dolly needs have kept coming first. I hope to get it sometime this year! Usually it's heads without bodies instead.

@Zhaodan, Iplehouse clothing will fit her or some of it will. Did you get her in Star size? What bust size?

    8. @rubydoll True enough. I have projects all over the place in various states of completion and they're not just doll-related *sigh*. My poor Mkhai is in pieces right now as I've started the metal leafing process over his body horns but the writing bug has been gnawing on me voraciously and I've done little else during my free time.

    9. Do they often have special events on their facebook page? I always forget to log in to mine. I'm not a huge fan of social media in general. I may have to check in from time to time if they host events on their page though.

I think in this hobby, the project list always seems to be added to rather than being ticked off, at least that's been my case. Although I lack a lot of free time lately due to work so I guess that's my reason for endless and unfinished projects!

I've been wishing Impldoll would shrink some of their Idol girls into the model line size. A model line Azalea would be fantastic.

    10. @Iron_Dog I hear ya! I find writing a lot of fun but so time consuming. If I could cut out all the time I spend just staring blankly at the screen it would help! Or if I could just download my thoughts from while I'm at work or driving or whatever and in no position to write that would be great!

@shirahime the events are fairly regular but not that frequent. I think they usually get a mention on this thread so checking here might be as good or better than going on Facebook. I try not to go on too much myself. It aggravates my FOMO. And yes, project lists keep growing. I started a project list for 2018 because I thought it might help my focus. I later discovered at least two other To Do lists in the same book. And yes, I would be in a lot of trouble if they made their Idol ladies Model sized. I may have mentioned once or a million times that I like Aurora. But even if they don't duplicate them, some new models for the Model range would be lovely.

    11. @rubydoll I've been going pretty hard core on one story for the last 2 months. I've written about 120K of it and that is all just writing on weekends and evenings as I do work full time, too. It's left me with no time to do anything else, which isn't entirely a bad thing, but when you have other stuff you want to accomplish, too....

    12. Wow, that is impressive. I've done NaNoWriMo several times and that's 50K in a month and that usually wipes me out and to be honest I don't produce much worth rereading. So to stick with one story and get it done, that's brilliant. And the other stuff will wait. If your writing muse is anything like mine, she's a fickle little minx and if you don't write when she dictates then good luck trying to string a sentence together next time it's convenient for you to write! Sadly my reason for not finishing stuff lately is "I wanted to play Sims" but that at least makes a change from the usual "I can't find what I need and I can't buy a replacement because I know I have it somewhere" which is the main reason my poor Dylan is still staring at me under the fringe of his temporary wig wondering when I'm at least going to make a wig cap so when I do find my curls I'm ready to start!

    13. I've done Nano several times. If you do I think... 1700 words a day, you're pretty much golden to hit 50K. If I've got a real writing groove on, I can do about 1000 words per hour. And not to sound boastful, it's good stuff. I'm under contract for a chapter/month at Yaoifix.com and my minimum requirement is 5K. This month's chapter writing was a tick over 9K and I did that in 2 full days of writing but I also farted around on the net a lot and ended up sucked into reading a manga series online so lost about 4 hours right there. So in addition to the 120K of The Dire Heart, I also wrote (in that same time period) another 18K in total for my monthly chapter of Escape Velocity and the final chapter of Beloved Destiny. I write A Lot.

    14. No alerts for this thread again! :...((Although I've been so busy with real-life stuff that I won't be able to post much anyway.)

I totally get the frustration of the headless body! It actually happened to my female doll (my erstwhile IMPLdoll Azalea prior to her reshelling), and it's due to the faceup artist taking 3+ months on the commission. And my mockup wasn't even as complicated as the kabuki-esque makeup currently on my doll. I had to take poor Adhara headless to a bjd-related market meet because you can't exactly just eyeball clothes and shoes measurements. You can bet it felt pretty awkward.

    15. Hey guys, so I'm buying my Beast a Beauty. She's going to be an Azalea on an April Story body (I've seen the exact hybrid done, so I know it'll work. Plus, she has a petite head).

My question is... is it worth asking Impldoll for custom resin? From what I understand, Impldoll is pretty good at resin matching, but there's always a small chance that it might be a little off. The resin match between Impldoll and April Story is already a little off from what I've been told and seen.

Should I deal with the slight difference between Impldoll and April Story, or should I risk getting a custom resin from Impldoll that might end up being a little off?

@AntarelNefertili Aww, I'm sorry to hear about that. I once had a bad experience where a faceup artist took over 3 months. It sucked.

    16. A Lot? Yeah, you're not kidding! I think my problem is I can't find a good balance between planning enough that I know what to write and planning too much so actually writing it feels like a chore. I haven't heard of Yaoifix - I used to be into yaoi but I think I started to lose interest just as it was becoming more available. But I might check it out for nostalgia's sake ^^

@AntarelNefertili usually I have the opposite problem - I want to go somewhere but have nobody to go with. It must have looked like your poor doll couldn't face it. Or that she'd forget her head if it wasn't screwed on. Still, I hope she got some nice clothes in the end!

@Silver_Unicorn297 it depends how much the mismatch will bother you. I have a head on a body which is way off but I love the head, I love the body and I love the proportions - and he's usually wearing a suit so it's not really a problem that I haven't got round to blushing him yet. If you're doing the faceup yourself it's not that hard to make the difference less obvious - or even if not, you could blush the body a little.

But on the other hand if you're not into doing that then you may as well pay the colour matching fee rather than buying the supplies you'd need. I haven't tried their colour matching service myself though.

    17. For colour matching, I think it comes down to how off is off and what you can live with. I have 2 boys who's resin colour is a bit off between head/body. Funny enough, their heads/bodies belong together and the very slight mis-match is the result of differing production years between head/body. I always thought I'd be bothered by a mis-match but its not really noticeable so I'm fine with it and when they get their face-ups, I'm not gonna bother with resin matching.

    18. Thank you for the suggestion, what size Iplehouse clothing will fit? She is in Star size, 64cm tall and medium bust size. I also ordered her with face-up and body blushing.

    19. @rubydoll I did manage to get some clothes and shoes for her, thankfully. I'll admit it was quite freaky to go around holding a well-dressed doll that had no head on. ^_^'

@Zhaodan I also have a Starwoman with medium bust, and she has two dresses that are either for SID or fits both EID and SID. However, I've read that some SID gowns don't fit. To be sure, you may want to go what fits EID.

@Silver_Unicorn297 Thankfully the artist was able to follow my instructions well enough, but that's small consolation considering the long wait. D:

Oh, and regarding April Story/Impldoll resin matches, I'd have to warn you that Impl's own resin has HUGE variations among what's supposed to be the same skin tone. I've upped a similar image some posts back, but below is a Fantasia Doll head (Normal Skin -- a very good match to April Story Normal according to those who've done hybrids) on a Starwoman body (Real Skin). The match, while not perfect, was easily remedied with blushing. But then, enter my boy, whose newer Impldoll body is also Real Skin. I was shocked to see that their resins don't even match despite both supposedly being of the same color. Basically, the comparison below is as mismatched as it could probably get. Nothing some good blushing won't fix, I would think.

    20. @rubydoll, @Iron_Dog Thanks or the input! I noticed that there tends to be a slight mismatch once you do the faceup, what with the blushing and MSC. Even so, having a good starting base is important to me, so I might as well go for the color-matching service. I plan on doing the faceup myself, but I don't know how good I'd be at making the resin match >.<
@AntarelNefertili That's good to hear. Unfortunately, my artist didn't follow my instructions for the mods or the faceup. I didn't really get the promised in-progress shots, so I couldn't approve the mods before she did the face-up. It all turned out well in the end... but still, a lot of hassle could have been avoided XD

That is a really big difference though, in terms of RS D= I think you make a good point. Someone else's Impldoll Ns and April Story NS might have been close, but mine might not. It might be better to just stick with the custom resin matching service. Even if it is a little bit off... it shouldn't be that bad.

    21. I have pretty much no artistic background but I feel I did a pretty good job matching my new tan head to the old tan body. And I had a light yellow body which I blotched some pink on and unevenness aside it did match the head I had for it better. It doesn't have to be exact cos skin tones aren't perfectly even. ^^

    22. so :P since i know which April story body you're talking about, i actually sent a head cap of the twin head that was on that body to Impl with my last order after seeing that the NS had changed to a more peachy shade sooo, since my order is still with him, if you want to order a head direct from impl you can ask Sean to match it to "the Impldoll headcap Maryam sent you" . that's their early 2017 NS which was pale and matched most companies.
i'd even ask for a shade paler than that. they were pretty close but in the photos if you recall impl was slightly darker. if it ends up being Paler than the AS body you can always blush it ever so slightly. alternatively you can send him a part of the AS body if you're still unsure.

    23. Question....of the people that ordered the third generation male body when it first came out and had the skinny neck, did you guys get a replacement? if so what did y'all end up doing with the spare bust pieces?

also, foolish me, i only just saw Narissa! how flippen gorgeous! i do wish she had Derrick' s more elongated horns and slightly smaller eyes. i'm debating weather i want Derrick and Narissa with my existing order *__* they're so pretty and i'm trying so hard to be good this year. i will wait a bit but they are so calling me X_X

    24. @MaryamDN, give in!! Give in to the Narissa and Derrick I did! Lol! I managed to get in on the pink skin heads as face upped. I am so looking forward to getting them! But then I need to find bodies...

    25. noooo you enablerrrr!!! :P i will have to think it through some more before Sean is through with my order. he says their horns are not interchangeable so the question is.... do i want a zombie order of his human head, with his detachable horns even if the human head can't accommodate it, along with her human head and horns <_<

      • x 1
    26. @MaryamDN Oh my gosh, you are amazing <3 Thank you so much. I just messaged Impldoll about this!

    27. I love the style of the horns on Derrick but I'm also super happy that he's a bigger doll than I want to get into collecting (of course, I say this now....).

    28. :P you're very welcome!make sure to ask for slightly paler... just a little bit. unless you were okay with the photo of mine of the AS body.
speak for yourself XP (i'm jealous of ur smaller sizes) mine are growing in size and this is BAAAAAAD . half my guys are now over 74cm X_X
<_< there are even rumors of a large dragon in the making for one of my guys. my collection will soon inevitably have to be limited to under 20 dolls just to maintain space. i'm so dangerously close to purchasing this larger guy!

    29. @MaryamDN Right now, I seem to be loving extra hard on the odd-ball 50cm range. All my newest boys (Soom ID51, SD Vito & Iple FID) are within that range. They're so very portable and sort of have the best of both worlds (MSD/SD) for carrying around and making clothes. Buuuuuut, there's also a doll I've seen for sale for a bit now and he's just beautiful and well priced. But he's also 74cm and I've no idea who he is (which is a Rule in my house). I try not to look at him. Really, I do. But every time his pic pops up in my feed, I can't seem to stop myself from clicking on his pic to moon over his gorgeousness and sternly say no. I don't know how long I can hold out though *shifty eyes*.

    30. i wish man!! i so wish i could. my eyes just refuse to handle that size. as a reference, i accepted to do an msd faceup for a friend...took about 2 hours but it knocked me out with a migraine for the rest of the day. i do have 1 souldoll msd and a agatti alfarr but i rarely do anything with them. still love them.
you don't know who he is as in you don't know the maker or you don't have an OC in mind? i might be able to help with IDing him if you don't know what sculpt he is :P you can send me a private msg with a link if you'd like. i'm curious now.

    31. @MaryamDN Oh, no, I know exactly what company/sculpt he is. The seller is quite detailed about everything. But thank you for the offer in ID-ing him. One of my House Rules is that nobody comes home who isn't already a character. It, in theory, helps keep the horde to a manageable mass since I'm very particular about the look of my characters. In theory....

And it looks like I might not end up pining for that awesome head that Impl showed back in July to go on the Miro body I have. Why? One of my doll friends apparently bought me a gift last year for Xmas and life conspired against her right around that time and she didn't get to send it out until last week. I picked it up on my way home from work and had the shock of my life when I opened the box. She bought me my grail, a Unidoll Ark.

When I bought Mkhai (Impl Miguel), a week later, I saw an Ark pop up in the MP but I couldn't afford the Ark since I'd just bought a doll (Miguel was my other grail). Originally, Mkhai was to be Orajin, a Bone Demon and the Ark was to be Ivriah, a Battle Mage that summons Orajin most often to fight for him (their story is called Slip Of The Tongue). Now, Mkhai is the God of Weaponry & Warfare and Supreme Commander of the Immortal Army. I've got to figure out who Ark is going to be but I'm heavily betting he's going to be Mkhai's lover. So my grails are reunited again as lovers... just totally different lovers.

    32. @Iron_Dog that's really kind of her! i can only imagine the surprise :D
bah...humbug. yeah... in theory that is my rule but i LOVE breaking it <_< i've been better .... slightly.

    33. Hang on, they slightly thickened the neck? :o I'm of half a mind to attempt an existing mod to put the thighs of the TGB onto my preexisting FGB for the ultimate posing capacity, but I'm not really sure what I'd do with the remaining pieces if I push through with it. XD

    34. I know, right? I'm so totally blown away by her generosity.

    35. this was some time ago. back when he originally released the TGB a few of us bought it and once we received it i emailed him and showed him some photos saying the neck was first not the same size as advertised and secondly too thin for a buff 70cm. i emailed him photos of the TGB next to the FGB's neck as SOOM ID 72's neck and he agreed to redo the neck. also at the same time, some people also managed to convince him to add mobility joints to his upper arms so those of us that ad already purchased and received our TGBs and had requested thicker necks, got replacement chest pieces and upper arm bits which left some of us with spare thin neck chest pieces and upper arms. this was just a couple months after its release.

    36. Wow, I didn't know that! Honestly, the teeny neck and the lack of certain mobility joints (and what looked like a bubblebutt) was what turned me off from buying the TGB in the first place. They really should update the photos on their website. :o I'm pretty sure there are those who didn't know the girls' legs now have the thigh slits, for one.

    37. O____O eh? i didn't know that either!!! the girls now have mobility thighs!!?

    38. @MaryamDN Here's the old news posted on IMPL's website: Welcome to impldoll Given the lack of updated pictures, I'm not surprised you weren't aware of the change. While I'd still like a thigh swivel for the girls to tandem with the thigh slit, it's a much-needed upgrade. My girl couldn't have done nice walking poses without them.

    39. X___X i'm generally in and out of the loop. i've missed a lot since October!! i never seem to have enough time to actually catch up on bjd news. Impl is very under rated i think. a little more advertising and more updated photos would certainly go a long way for them! i love them either way.i've thinned out my impl collection a fair bit (along with many others) to fine tune my collection but i still stand strongly by impl as a company and Sean as the director. i do wish they'd tweek these details in their site though for sure!!

    40. Good news ya'll! Well, good to me- Clover-singing (Jerryama on ebay) now carries Impldoll! That means free shipping! That means a free wig with doll purchase! And to celebrate their new distributorship, they have a 15% off sale. Granted, they have only a few dolls up as yet (this is all terribly brand new) but you can just ask for the one you want and they'll get it. I am SO excited this happened, I was wondering if just fell by the way side. But no! And they do honor the events going on. *squee!*

As for the girls, yes, we finally got them to add the thigh slit. I would love the swivel thigh as an option too, and the upper arm swivel. If we ask enough, he may yet do it.

    41. @chalyss , Where are they located? Are they in the USA? I've never heard of them?!?!?

    42. They're in China I believe- you may know them as Jerryama (Doll's Singing) on ebay. They've sold there for a decade or more. Then in 2013 they started their own site in tandem with the ebay store. On clover-singing.com they can run promos they can't on ebay. They do layaway. Dolls get free shipping. They're running specials all the time (sometimes better ones than anyone else by a percent or two) and you get a free wig of your choice with every doll purchase. Christina runs it, and she ROCKS. The site itself is a bit clunky compared to other stores, but it's not hard to navigate and the perks are worth it!

    43. I found their site, @chalyss , but aside from getting more bodies, I'm wanting some clothes. I can't see any there. Am I missing something? Thanks for this :D If I ever get my doll heads, I can maybe get bodies too :D

    44. They do carry them! They're just not in a category of their own. if you go to Clover-sama self made, there are outfits there. HZ is all outfits. Most of the clothing on the dolls in their promo pics can be bought if you ask. Air Castle is outfits and wigs... Helleborus is clothing, they have some DZ clothes, I'd say just poke around and see what's listed.

It never hurts to email either. She's a really fast responder and a super nice person!

    45. Oh man, you are a treasure trove! Thank you again!!

    46. My deepest pleasure! I love this store to bits and pieces (and OMJ free shipping! whaaaat??) and I know shipping fees can kill. Now, not sure the small stuff is free- I've only ever bought full dolls and added clothes in with that, but the full dolls are where the fees go crazy.

    47. Oh gosh, I just fell in love with what's probably the most expensive outfit on the site! $170+ forgot exact amount. But it comes with a hat and boots and details galore! shoot, I need this, LOL. (like a hole in the head!)

Anyways, yah, I would like more bodies as I've gotten more heads,, LOL Only this time I will get the color from the paint store to match :P

    48. She'll do layaways! Which outfit is it?

I have so many Impl things to buy! Clothes, heads, bodies- they are such a huge chunk of my collection!

    49. A new discussion thread: Part 11 !

      :)
