Aesthetics Beauty and the Beast | Belle | UPDATE 5/6

Apr 14, 2018

    1. Hello lovely peeps!
If the title looks familiar, you are certainly right! I am working on a Beast doll from my own rendition of Beauty and the Beast.

But what is a Beast without his Beauty? ^.^

Here is the breakdown of my plans for this doll:

Head: Impldoll Azalea (human) (bought, waiting)
Body: April Story Senior Girl (bought, arrived)
Wig: Long, brown, curly/wavy (bought, waiting)
Eyes: 12mm small iris, brown (searching)

      Outfits:
In the other thread, I stated that my Beast is going to be my own interpretation of the character. Beauty is going to be as well, to some extent. For example, Azalea looks nothing like the animated or live-action version of Belle, but she is still gorgeous, and I love her sculpt. Her first set of outfits, however, will be inspired by her Disney outfits. More specifically, my cosplays of her outfits. (As you can see, I am a total BatB nutcase, hehe).
I won't be able to make exact replicas due to the scale, but they will be similar!

      Peasant:
      - Petticoat (re-do)
      - Blue skirt (re-do)
      - Blue bodice w/embroidery (half-complete)
      - White blouse (complete)
      - White apron
      - Black ballet flats or "character shoes" (need to find and buy, or make)

      Ballgown:

      - Hoopskirt (in progress)
      - Petticoat (a must to avoid the hoopskirt ribs)
      - Skirt
      - Base skirt, pale golden-yellow satin (in progress)
      - Base gathered skirt: pale yellow chiffon w/beaded trim
      - Upper tier: pale yellow tulle w/beaded trim
      - Bodice: pale, golden-yellow satin w/beaded trim
      - Pale yellow, satin heels (need to make or modify)

    2. ok, so a good beast might be an impldoll chad or Aries.

Alice Collections has some yellow shoes that might work...

Or you can get some plain shoes and use diluted fabric paint over them maybe, or dye- These champagne colored shoes I have for MSD, and they look white in pictures, but they really are more of a creamy champagne color.

As for the black flats, there are lots of tutorials on youtube, and patterns all over google. I can't wait to see your versions of beauty and the beast, they are one of my favorite fairy tales!

    3. @Bukimeisu Aw, thank you! I haven't thought of dyeing the shoes or painting the shoes. That could work on silk or satin shoes, which opens up my options considerably. My original plan was to cover existing heels with silk or satin fabric, but I like yours more!

The black shoes will be trickier--but I have some sources: Etsy and Doll Mansion. She has tiny feet though: 6.5cm, so most shoes will be a whole 1cm bigger D=

    4. I love Belle too. I dressed up as her when we had a Disney themed dress-up day at work and, more subtlely, I followed a tutorial for her up-do for a Christmas meal

I love her outfits, and big beautiful dresses in general, so good luck with them and I'm looking forward to seeing how they turn out!

    5. Hello my lovely beauties!
So finally, after drafting the patterns and getting the materials, I was able to start working on the dress.

As mentioned, it is based off of my own cosplay, which had a beaded trim along the bottom edge of both the upper and lower tiers. I was very specific about the trim--it had to be the right size and color =[ None of the pre-made strands were what I was looking for. Luckily, there is this specific bridal braided trim that has the right beads in it. Unfortunately, this means that I need to take the cord apart in order to get to the beads.
(Yes, I realize that I can buy strands of beaded trim, but like I said, the beads were the wrong size and color. I am picky.)

      What I started with:

      The result:

And after hours and hours of hand-sewing the trim to the base of the upper tulle tier:

      And it's still not done!

I need to add the tear-drop pear beads between the gathers as well as the embroidered trim. Alas, I couldn't find anything that was exactly right, so I bought a white trim, and am in the process of coloring it gold. (My original dress had a pastel pink and green rose trim, but I couldn't find anything that meshed well with this).

And then I will need to repeat the process on the longer lower chiffon tier (sans embroidered trim) =D

I am in love with this tulle though. It has a slight shimmer to it!

    6. Wow, so pretty! Such patience! I admire your pickiness! Isn't there an old joke in costume making - something like "it's the right material", "It's the right colour", "It exists" - pick two. ? Ingenious idea unpicking the pearl thread though and it looks really effective.
