Pose doll on porch railing. Doll is so solidly posed she could be wearing cast iron boots. Look through viewfinder. See doll fly off railing. Scream. Doll has landed on her thick wig and flopped on her well upholstered back. No damage. Except to my heart >.<
I ALWAYS have the bee problem. But I was especially mad yesterday with the bees. We have a huge sunflower blooming in our backyard. I really wanted to get a picture of my tiny girl next to it, because the flowers is almost double her size. So I got her in her outfit and shoes grabbed the camera, walked across the wobbly board to get to the other side of the garden. And I'm suddenly surround by bees D: And they're all flying around the sunflower, so I didn't really want to get close to it. I was so sad o.o Needless to say, I never got my picture -_-
Kittys, Always Kittys =0 Kitty running off with wigs (especially fur wigs), Kittys running off with clothes, Kittys running off with props- every time Haha
My kittys aren't too much of a problem. My problem was my doll doesn't have the best balance and one day we were outside and it was sooo windy, it make her hair move all pretty..but then I was so scared she would fall!! Luckily she only did RIGHT before I was ganna go pick her up to go home
Oh yes! The most epic, amazing doll photo I ever took-- --was taken seconds before a gust of wind knocked her over and she fell ten feet off a cliff into a stagnant pool of water and algae. Thankfully, she was completely unharmed, but needed a thorough cleaning and restringing. She actually squeaks less now, so it was, bizarrely, an improvement. But I was picking algae strands out of her dress for days, and I'll never forget the horrifying sight of her falling, or of her floating in a pool of filthy pondwater with her eyes knocked out and rolled back in her head. I wish I'd gotten a picture of her in the water! I was too busy being horrified, and wanting to grab her in case she dislodged from the pool and started floating downstream towards the waterfall.
That's quite a story, blissfulchains! Happy she's unharmed ^_^ My problem usually consists of low light shots coming out blurred or dark. I love to walk in the forest with my camera and a doll just in case I find a nice mossy spot to make a shot of her. Find that, place the doll, move a couple of feet back, shoot. Look at the result, sigh, repeat. The problem is that there is actually a lot of light, the forest isn't dark at all - it's just that the light is dispersed and the camera can't really understand that. So the ISO goes up, as does the F-stop. If that doesn't help, I need to search for a new place. Another problem I keep having is nosy dogs and their owners. I love dogs - keep them, actually - but it really gets frustrating when all I have in a shoot is a large, brown or black wet nose peeking into my camera
While taking outdoor photos of my doll in his white wig, I noticed a moving black spot crawling around in there. It was an icky spider! Had to stop what I was doing, flip the wig off his head and flick it until the creature had fallen out. I think the spider got in my photo somewhere My other dilemma is shininess. Those of you with tan dolls know what I'm talking about: even with a heavy coat of MSC tan dolls' faces are shiny as Christmas which forces you to use low light or to hope you get a good angle that doesn't make them look plasticy.
Nightmares? Definitely the spills. Most of my dolls are fairly solid posers. But every once in a great while, some gust of wind, or quirk of dolly nature tips the scales and over they go - usually as I'm picking up the camera, or backing away from the doll. Most of the time there's little to no damage, but every now and then... Bleah. The most heartbreaking though, has to be when I took my ImplDoll Miguel to a zoo. He'd been doing so well - posed with a giraffe, in front of a fountain... but when I put him up on a fence in front of the snow leopard - he was fine until I turned around to pick up the camera. Before I could turn back around, I heard that sickening sound of doll head on pavement, and he was all over the place. His head in four pieces. And in between the fence and the animal cage. I had to get an employee to retrieve the pieces. He's all glued back together, but... His face has so many lines already in the sculpt, so it's not so bad. Had it been any other doll I own, I would have been inconsolable. Yup. Nightmare.
Once i walked with my doll in arm a good two miles to a building that was being renovated. i had already decided what poses and where i would stand up my doll the day before. I got her set up for the shoot, ran around and made sure all the lighting was just right, pulled out my camera.... and nothing! it was dead, stone dead! Defeated, i walked back home with doll in arm and no pictures to show for it.
Just the ever ongoing battle of "Ah, you're pose is perfect! Your hair is perfect! You look *EXACTLY* the way you should for this shot! Yes!!!" *reaches for camera; turns around; dollie: -plops over backwards-* " ..... NNNOOOOOOOOO... ;___;" *have to restyle hair and repose *ALL* over again....not even close to how perfect the pose had been just a few seconds earlier* The scariest bit was when I stood my guy up on the counter, then turned around to retrieve another doll to stand next to him and I hear *PLOP*... I turn around and he did a full on FLIP off the counter and landed on his back on the hard tile floor. =____= Amazingly he was unharmed. And as a matter of fact, that guy is like indestructible. _xD The closest damage he's ever had in a fall was when a layer of MSC chipped off. Fixed as soon as I gave him a new face-up. He is insanely resilient. o_o
My photoshoot nightmare almost gave me a heart attack! I've got a loft bed, so there's a ladder that goes up to it. So I've got my kid delf sitting nice and pretty in his giant chair, only to see the ladder's in the frame. My solution? Stand the ladder up against the bed, instead of taking it down and putting it on the floor. Now the ladder's standing straight up, and we can all see what's going to happen next. That ladder had it out for Nika, I swear. Suddenly it topples over, smacking into Nika's chair and catapults him off the waist-high shelf half way across the room and onto the ONLY patch of hardwood floor. Face. First. I nearly DIED. The MSC on his nose was chipped and there's now an crack in his arm that pretty much can't be fixed, only replaced. T_T And this was only after having him for like, a month, and he is my first doll!
My only troubles is a scene like this. Me: -outside posing doll, moving around doll to take shots, gets about 5 shots and suddenly-" Kitty: meooooow love meeee -rubs all over me- heeey whats that -goes to sniff doll getting in shots- Me: kitty moooove -pushes him away- Kitty: >O NO -comes back- every. time.
Went for a photoshoot at the local park... Mikael wouldn't stand anywhere, so I put him against a cute innocent tree. Bad idea. Suddenly these insects start crawling all over the poor guy, and his only t-shirt has tree sap all over it. *facepalm* But hey, I got some pretty sweet shots in the end. ;D
Oh my goodness, this made me cringe... my toes are literally curling from how horrible that must have been. To stay on topic, I'm going my first photoshoot with my doll tomorrow...and I'm a little nervous. All the pictures I've taken of her have been inside, in the safety of my room. I'm hoping everything goes well tomorrow and I don't have to deal with anything weird!
The first time I took my new boy out for a photoshoot, he faceplanted right on the brick-paved walkway and ended up cracking his nose. I was only able to get a few pictures before this happened, so every picture since he has that slight, barely noticable-in-pictures damage. ;-; I wanted to kick something. For the most part, though, the biggest problem I run into is battery life. Apparently, no battery can last more than an hour in my hands. Which really ticks me off, because there's a lot of natural rock formations, caves, creeks, overall beautiful nature backdrops, urban and urban decay, and not a few gardens and churches. I've yet to get a decent photoshoot in with my dolls. It makes me sad.
I feel really awkward taking pictures of Emma in anywhere but my home - especially around my parents. So, I usually do a lot in my room. But sometimes, when I'm alone at night, while everyone's asleep (and I watch Leno), I'll bring Emma into the living room to do some pics. Right now, I'm trying to get her in front of out Christmas lights, but things are blurry. But living room stuff can get interesting...
My grandparents are buried in a cemetery a few miles from my home, and I think it's illegal to go in after dark. Especially because there's a church and a couple of famous people buried there (I know of one Latin singing sensation whose mausoleum is outside of the building that my grandparents are in). There's also a security place, and big gates around the multiple entrances. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to go into it. It's super huge, though; lots of practice driving was done there - no one's there to kill! lol
Omg my mom did that to me when I was learning to drive a standard. It sucked though 'cause the entrance was a hill and you had to stop at the top so I kept sliding backwards while trying to shift to first fast enough. I'm freaking out and her response? "Don't worry about it, there's only dead people to hit." I was horrified. I think the worse that's happened to me besides the classic wind and lighting plus stupid camera was one time I took my girl out onto our deck (which is a good 10-15 feet from the groud) for some photos. I had her sitting on the railing around the deck when my brother slammed the door shut hard enough to rattle the railing. I barely caught her, though her wig fell off and took forever to untangle.
oh boy, there's this really nice park near my place and there's a really lovely bench i'd like my doll to sit on with some really really nice flowers behind it ... but there's bird poop all over it > _ < sigh they really need someone to clean them up someday > _ <
