Wow, prices are really all over the place. I have a K Lasher Addeline I spent $400. for and others on order. But my dream is to get a Dollstown but so confused on ordering one.
I quite agree with you, PaisleyPixie. It is so good that there are so many variants but how to pick? There were some great pics of Dollstown Dolls in Haute Doll recently, and they made me think I would like Elysia or Ganga. But what age Ganga? It may be harder to find clothes for the 5 year old.
When I see some of the prices in this thread, I feel pretty fortunate that I only collect MSD and smaller. My most expensive doll was my beloved Enchantment Doll Batchix Machina. My robot girl was my "grail" doll and I got her at a very good reduced price in the marketplace, with a layaway to boot. She was $375 (and of course, since she's so spoiled, she has an entire collection of luts and leekeworld wigs...and a pair of urethane eyes that cost over $60 as well.) I adore this doll and can deny her nothing!!!
I've just brought my most expensive doll. He was very expensive but I sold a third of my other dolls to get him so I feel ok about it. I never thought I would spend so much on a doll. But he will be my most treasured character who I have never found another mould for. He will be totally worth it when he turns up.
In a funny way my most expensive doll was once one of my cheaper dolls I bought a Vincent Valentine MNM and at the time there was a Xmas promotion that made the head a bit cheaper than normal. However, all the things I've bought and am going to get to make him complete will make him the most expensive one ever. His jointed claw cost roughly $130 then his jointed hands will cost $80, body will be $285, his long wig will be $28, short "TURK" wig will be $28, his leather outfit will be at least $200, his suit $87, his gun was $30 odd and other materials for his facup and part for his arm and shoes will be around $80.... there are probably tones of other things I have forgot (not even going to bother adding the other mnms I've bought to be his playmates XD ) So yeah, well over $1000 worth of doll. Totally worth it though. There is nothing more satisfying than building a doll from scratch
My most expensive was about 200 usd. I know thats not a alot, but I still live on allowance money, and I dont get many, so I spent half a year saving up. I will probably end up with 10 "cheap" ones instead of a few pricey. Im against using more money than I have to, and will probably always choose the cheaper instead of the pricier with better quality. When Im not able to find cheap molds I love anymore, I would probably move on to pricier ones, but thats not gonna happen anytime soon! xD
I could say my most expensive BJD, as complete BJD at a same purchase, could be the CP Luts Delf CHIWOO-ELF Limited - [Option::MAKE UP 2EA,NORMAL ] I bought for $777 in February 2007, closely followed by the Luts THE COMMANDER OF BLUE KNIGHTS-ABADON - [Option::MAKE UP (Basic head)] I bought for $720, without the dreaming head I purchased with him, in September 2009, but I will not say that as I bought them both to get the heads. My CP Luts Delf El Special became my most expensive BJD since I changed him of body. Since then he is one of my hybrids. His Unidolll UBr-01(Real boy body), that I purchased in November 2007, meant $480 plus $250 for his kind of peculiar blushing. So in total, between head and body, I consider he is the indisputable most expensive one among my BJD. What I thought when I did, my pocket could hardly believe me, but I felt glad to be able to do so and with what I received.
Volks Tsukasa! I got his pureskin SD13 boy body ridiculously cheap in a trade... but the head, while an absolute STEAL for a Tsukasa, was about a month of my current mortgage. OMG. However, I'd loved him since his initial release in late 2003 and had always intended to buy one if the opportunity arose. I didn't like the faceup he came with, but it was a sort of "famous" Tsukasa (the one painted by Phantom) so I didn't want to wipe it. It turned out that a friend of mine had loved that particular Tsukasa for years... so we ended up trading Tsukasas! Mine is painted by my favorite artist, Poppy. It was awesome and I don't regret it at all. Even when I get all OMG MONEY and feel like I need to sell one of my dolls, he is never even considered even though I could sell him for the most.
The things I do for dolls... I just layout out $800 For a Full Set with Custom Makeup HZ Fei. I had to have everything for that doll....The wigs, the clothes, the tattoos, the bag even.... I usually Spend about $600 per doll so this is a big leap for me but it's mainly because I can now afford to buy dolls I want to an extent. Theres a certain doll mod I have my eyes on that is going to cost me well over $1500 in the next couple of months that Im going to start paying for as soon as I decide the model I want. (I want to create an actual mermaid and a friend said that they would do it for me.) At last, being a pre-med student is paying off big time...Can anyone say stipend, because Im going to be living with my parents for the rest of my life thanks to dolls...... ^_^
I have two. A Haute Hound (from a private auction) and a Bermann L'Tranger (bought on ebay) and if you added them up you could make a house payment - equals about 5 months pay for me. I have no excuse and I don't think I thought about it. It just sorta.... happened. Please, kill me before I do that again.
that would be my DOT camine, with a girl body. it was around $700 and the reason why it was so expensive was because i bought the head and body separately since i liked the boy's sculpt more then the girl's.
Most expensive doll that I purchase got to be SD17 Williams ~the Darkness of Ensign~ from Y!J. I think I paid over $2900 for him, but he is worth it.
Elle, my Volks Mimi, is my most expensive doll because I bought her in 2 parts. First was when I bought my SD13 Mimi from the Volks store for about $748 and then I paid $120 (did a partial trade that knocked $60 off her price so it was originally $180) for the SD10 Mimi head I really wanted. So she was about $868. She was well worth the money. SD10 Mimi has always been one of my favorite molds ever since I heard of ABJDs and I have never regretted spending the money to have her in my life.
At the moment my most expensive doll is a Soom Heliot. The Romantic head was 200$, his body is a Feeple Boy one which was 600$ and is Dragon Splhaler Claws 200$... All without shipping cost...So the total was about 1300$... ouch!! it hurts!! jajaja
My Galena almost fullset (didnt get bodyblush), not going to post $$$ but you can figure it out yourself xD.
My most expensive is my Volks Kurumi. I got super lucky in the lottery event so “won” her from Volks for about $950. I am SO grateful for it for I love her to bits but would never have paid the secondhand prices.
I spent about $1,300 on Souldoll's Leira the Moon in the Taro series - I ordered the full set. Woooooo! I just try not to think about it, actually. Just reading that sentence makes me feel woozy. It'll be the last doll I buy for quite some time. Reading this thread makes me feel a little better about it, though. I'm not the only one who has surrendered to total insanity.
most expensive one yet is the first order I made lol its Luts Regen w/faceup... he's not that expensive but the stuff that came with him is!... I got a Ultimatum set for him cu\ I thought it looks cool.. he's my first doll so I bought all the tools/accessories I can think of.. plus 2 wigs, 1 shirt, 2eyes; 2 pcs steampunk eyes from denverdolls, shoes, and undies... turns out to be more than $1000 @_@
My most expensive doll that I ever purchased (So far ^^; ) got to be SD17 Williams ~the Darkness of Ensign~ I paid $3500 for him hear on the Marketplace Paid him on a for month layaway but he is so worth every penny
My most expensive doll is a Soom Bygg. I ordered everything but the shoes and the wings, and I broke one of my own rules (no credit card dollies) to get him. But he's worth every penny, and he's still my favorite.
Yes when you count the real total of a doll including their faceups, wig, and clothes or making the doll's set like my Cloud, my most expensive would be Sky (CP Woosoo) and Senior Cloud (Minimee) with his AC costume + sword.
Mine's been my Jack - Circus Master Tedros. I got him without the animal parts, but other than that he was a fullset. He was quite a bit on layaway. I thought I was crazy when I was paying for him. >.<* Hopefully, I won't pay over a thousand for a doll again, but I'm not gonna hold myself to that . . . ^.^*
My Volks SD16 Kira.... Eek. She's a project that will cost me like $2500 before everything is said and done. Holy crap. I get anxiety thinking BACK on how much I've spent... I don't get anxiety when I'm actually doing the spending!
My most expensive Bjd to date has got to be Volks SD17 Hijikata Toshizo. 190000 yen which is US$2200. My friends thought I went bonkers... I thought I did too. Considering I only started collecting bjds this year.... the 3 SD size bjds I have now plus all the frequent online shopping for accessories and clothes really bankrupted me. I shudder at the amount of money spent in the last 6 mths.
In terms of most expensive as in the straight upfront cost, that would be my Souldoll Sydee, Including inital outfit & wig bought during the wating period, he came to about $800. With including money spent on them after the intial purchace, my Dollzone Orlando. Not sure of the exact figures, she's cost me over $1000 including her inital cost. Mostly becuase I like to put her in pretty outfits that normaly cost alot.
Oh wow... It probably is my Unoa, purchased from Japan. I actually have no idea what the total was, but it was a lot.
The only doll I have now cost me $320 (she was second-hand). However, I want to get a Chibi Unoa, and that will probably run me at least $700.XD
My most expensive BJD to date is my SD16 Kira. I was a bit nervous plunking down over $1,000 for one doll, but I love her and think she was worth every penny.
My parents where amazing and let me buy DOD Black Code (who was about 600). I'm currently paying it off by doing chores and stuff.
My most expensive doll is highly loved. He is an original limited edition Volks SD13 Tsukasa Konoe. I couldn't afford or obtain him when he came out but I discovered him on YJapan. My husbnd wanted me to go on this big trip to CA at the time. Most of it he was to spend working in classes while I and my then 8 yr old son were on our own. I am not much of a traveler so this wasn't something I wanted to do. As a bribe I got him to go half with me on the doll, including all the fees. I paid $2000 for him. I have actually tried to sell him once. I"m glad I didn't. He's in fantastic condition and I have over the years bought him a gorgeous wardrobe tho because of the economy he hasn't had anything new in quite a while. He's a dear boy and doesn't complain!. I love him and he was worth EVERY penny I paid for him. The only thing I even changed on him, other than separating his toes, was his eyes. I still have his originals but I am partial to these lovely purple ones I got.
Volks Cyndy ver. 1 and Tae are expensive dolls in my home. I bought my Cyndy from yahoo Japan auction, it's around US$1300. Tae is bought from after event, the price is high too.
Like avacado, my most expensive doll was a Ruby, the One-Off from this year's DollpaNYC. She was expensive, plus NYC & NY state taxes, ouch. She is soooo gorgeous. Ann in CT
My most expensive doll was Soom Amber, at $869.30 (blank, with wig, & shipping from Soom). Now, my most exspensive is my Suntan Migidoll Ryu/Light Tan Domuya Flexi Perennial boy. His head was $205 (with shipping) and a $85 face-up (trade for a head plus shipping costs). His body was $425.25 (with shipping & layaway pp fees). His eyes were a $32.33 (trade for commission work), his wig was at least $15, and new elastic was $6.24. So, $768.82 total. I didn't include clothes or shoes, since my dolls share. I never realized he costs that much. XD;
Wow, we really pay a lot of money for them xD My most expensive doll is my School C with Spirit Doll body. Around... 700$...
my most expensive doll is my Dollzone Morphoa fullset 436.80€ (i have all costs calculate to the at that time existing exchange rate, so dunno what it was in $, but i thought it were 600+$ because i get the event dragon >3) my cp shine is near morphoa o_o
It cost me US$1436 to get my Soom Heliot home (inc fullset + seam removal). He's amazing and I feel very lucky to have him in the family. ^-^
My most expensive doll to date is still the Volks FCS F38. He is a Sato only head, his price is in Yen and not in US$. I ordered him when the Yen was high 1.5 years ago. I remembered paying Canadian $1800+ Inclusive of shipping, handling, commission etc all inclusive. This translates to about US$1700 in today's exchange. I am glad I ordered him back then instead of waiting for the exchange rate to improve because it did not improve, the Yen keeps going up and up. The exchange rate can make a huge difference in the price we pay but it is not practical to time my purchases for a favorable exchange rate. Paypal gives very unfavorable exchange rate.
My most expensive doll Flat (Not counting clothes or anything) was Sephiroth my MnM hybrid, $125 for head and $400 for body. But its a close second to my Luts SDF Cian, he was my most expensive whole purchase, $400 for him and then $200 in a lot of accessories I got with him.
Mine would be my avalanche n' my cane (to be), but hopefully that'll be changed with a SOOM le someday
I think when all was said and done, Hana-chan has been the most expensive of my dolls-- but well worth every dime.
My most expensive doll was a fullset Volks Suiseiseki, which I bought for $1350. The seller really gave me an awesome deal on this doll because I've seen the doll by itself go in the MP here for $1900 in the past few months. The only downside is that the box was bent in some areas, and that the wig was a little messy. The doll had never been taken out of the original wrapping. When I bought her, there was a mixture of excitement and "oh fuck, what did I just do?" However, I have no regrets now. The doll was meant to be an incentive to do better in school and for the cost of less than a single course, it seems worth it in that respect. This doll again became somewhat of an incentive again to do well in school because my boyfriend lent me money for summer classes so that I wouldn't have to sell her to afford them. Now if only doing well in school meant having more time to play with dollies...
Narcissus my Soom Sard was the most expensive doll I brought. I brought him secondhand on DOA for 1500 and then the next week Euclase was released and brought him too. XD They were the two best doll purchases EVER!
Currently, my most expensive doll is Gwena, my Volks FCS girl. She cost around $1050 at the time including shipping and shopping service fee. Ironically, both of my other dolls cost less than her, but since they are limiteds and she is an unpopular sculpt, I think they would both fetch more than her if I sold them. xD
My most expensive.... that would have to be Pan! (style C Ringdoll) He's the second doll I'm going to get after I pay off my first... He's going to end up being $600 since I'm getting his full package. Promo outfit n' accessories, face up, wig, eyes... and shipping I think. It makes me die a little inside every time I look at that price... but I think I'll be able to live. ;u; Because he's worth it. I'll work till my fingers bleed just so I can get him! ;A;
My most expensive doll would have to be Volks SD Chii. I mostly collect DDs as I prefer a more anime-esque aesthetic, but I've always wanted Chii. I never really bothered looking for her since she is so limited/old. However, on our first day in Japan this June, we went to the Mandarake in Akihabara - and stumbled upon Chii for nearly 190,000 yen! It took us some thought, but decided to go for her. She is definitely worth it.
I just spent quite a bit on a Soom Chrom Firelord with all the wolf parts... and I plan on getting him a new face-up and painting on his fantasy parts... As well as full blushing, tattoos, scars, and piercings... So I think it's safe to say that he'll be my most expensive. Had I been confronted with this situation two months ago I would have laughed and said no way but the more I see Chrom and the more I work on the characters (wolf Chrom will have a twin soon) and their story the more I feel that they are completely worth the money and effort.
Of my dolls so far, my most expensive is my basic with faceup Iplehouse Akando at $700 (before Iplehouse changed the prices on their dolls). Although I'm sure he's gonna get ousted out of number one spot once I order my Fairyland Feeple girl or if I ever find a fullset doll that I really like
My most expensive is my Uni Limited 06 -- he was back from when they used French resin and came with the extra hands. He came to $670 I believe it was. He was absolutely perfect for one of my characters, and they did a lovely job on his faceup (it's rare that company faceups work for my characters). I'm very glad I jumped on him.
My most expensive to date is my brand-new Dollmore Model Doll When Dreaming Ipsae, who goes for $790 on the Dollmore site right now. I got her because I thought she was really pretty, but she doesn't have a character or even a name yet (which makes her not only my most expensive, but also the first in my collection to not have a character or name long before arriving).
My most expensive was my DoI Kalix NS, Sadie. I shelled out $800 for him including shipping. He's worth every penny though! (and that's alot of pennies!). Second most expensive is either my two Soom Tinies (Bygg; 'Ciel, and Beyla; Andromeda) or my 2005 CP El (Devi)
My most expensive (and first! o.O) doll has cost me USD $987.00. But so well worth it, she's absolutely gorgeous! The cost includes her faceup, body blushing, clothing/accessories, wig and eyes! The hard part, I'm discovering is waiting!
My most expensive doll was my DSAM SaintxPopodoll hybrid. He put me back around $530USD, not including shipping...but that's not really that expensive in the grand scale of the bjd hobby I think
Mine's my MNF lishe. But I only have her and the Tinies at the moment, I am new ^_^ She was $365 not including shipping.
My most expensive doll is Volks Kurumi dolpha 20 fullset.. I bought her second hand..1250 dollar...O_O Her condition was perfect! she was all worth is since she is my dream of doll I still don't regret it and I never will
My normal skin Soom Sard, one of the eight that exist in the world. I was grateful to pay only $1800 for him secondhand xD
