I'm curious as to the most expensive doll you all have, whether you laid $1500 down to buy them or you bought them at $500 and through the years it was discontinued or limited and now the market value of it is over $1000. What was your thoughts before spending all that money? Were you excited, panic struck, ect? I recently put $825.90 down on a dollshe Bernard with DSAM 35 body in freshskin. My first thought was wow? Did I just spend about 2 months rent on a doll? Then I thought about all the neat poses he can do and how handsome he'll be when he gets here. Before i spent over $800 on a doll my most expensive was a mecha angel and a souldoll zeneth(hmm i must be into rather LARGE dolls lol) they both were around $700 i put that much down on both the dolls without a second thought. funny how $100 more could make the price seem so much more pricie
I bought both my Soom Cuprit and Amber on the MP. I bought them piece by piece to stretch money (head, hooves, body) and ended up paying about $1200 for each. After them (though their are other old MDs I want) I decided to try to catch the Soom dolls I want from the company so I can get a fullset for the same price.
My most expensive so far is an off-topic American BJD. I find that in the Asian BJDs I prefer the tinies, which tend to be less expensive (not always--size doesn't always correlate). Still, the very first time I spent over $100 on a doll was still a shock to my system that I wanted any doll that much! I've since gotten over it. ;D
Hmm, let's see... I guess my most expensive was an Iplehouse Tatiana who I then traded for a Soulkid Yewon. They both go for about $300 new (plus $40ish for faceups, they both had them). My spending is smaller because my dolls are smaller. xD I did spend around $210 on a Pipos one time but he was worth every penny!
Mine is a VOLKS SwD Yui who's shown here: http://www.angelden.net/volks/msd/yuisd.php She was my dream doll, and my sister helped me get her :> I love her so much... But I'll admitt, I was going to buy her defult outfit and was strugling to spend $250 on an outfit...Even if it was limited and H.NAOTO...hehe...if it didn't get sold I would have though. It makes my belly hurt now and then before I make major purcashes, but as soon as I realize what it is/get them, it fades away and I just feel bliss for having them :> I think we spent around $550-$600 on her with shipping and an Another Space outfit (so she wouldn't be nekkid!)...that's alot for a mostly-unembloyed teenager, haha! But she makes me so happy...so...
Probably his Majesty. He is an old F29, and so he was a lot when I bought him. And that was 5 years ago or so. His majesty's clothes are worth quite a bit too, I think. But I expect Zach is worth a lot now, as he is an old Hound, and Gormenghast (a Sard). Little Castus (a Soom Bygg) also cost quite a bit, but not as much as his larger cousins. ^-^ It always scares me a lot to pay for big things, but I get over it pretty quickly too, as I live very cheaply day to day and very slowly but surely money comes back. My boys are permanently beautiful, which money as of itself, is not.
My most expensive doll is my Bobobie Ariel doll. I bought her from the MP for $150 and paid an extra $20 for her wig. I bought eyes from Safrin doll for $15 and an outfit from PinkPoodle here on DoA for $12, so overall I have $197 invested in her so far. I have tinies that were all under $100 each. It's hard for me to spend too much money, even though I'd like to. I have to admit though, my daughter got me interested in this hobby, and when she first showed me some bjd sites I was horrified of the cost. Now, what I used to think was alot of money for a doll seems reasonable!
I also have a MD I ran a split so i got all his wolf parts and body while all his human parts went to others in the split. i think he ended up around $5-600. not nearly as much as my Bernard lol, I also put my Chrom on layaway so it was a lot easier on the wallet. I could have put my Bernard on layaway, but I rather pay the amount while I have it in my possession than struggle to pay month to month payments. I should try to get into tinies, but for some reason they don't appeal to me as much as the large dolls...and often the large ones add up. lol *sigh* I think my fiance would love it if I spent $100-200 on a tiny rather than $800 on a large doll
My Noctarcana Circus Iplehouse Jerome. He was over a month's rent without the full set! Definitely felt very panicky since he seemed so expensive... I was new to the hobby so I had little idea of the prices limited and rare dolls can reach though!
My most expensive doll was an unused and unopened fullset Volks MSD Nagisa in Preschool, purchased from a Yahoo!Japan auction. My bid was ¥68000, but after shopping service fees, shipping, and a plummeting exchange rate, I paid just under...a heck of a lot of money. It's embarrassing to admit...
My most expensive doll was my Volks SWD Nana. I bought her from the online after-event and she cost me around $800.
I think my most expensive doll right now would be a toss up between my Volks Jun Tachibana and my new Souldoll Chiron Centaur..
Right now, my SOOM MD Appini is vastly the most expensive doll I've purchased, being a total of $374. I sold two dolls to get her before the order ran out, but she was perfect for me, so I don't regret it. However, I think that if my wish list looks the same down the road (IE, don't find another doll I like better!), the most expensive doll I plan to purchase is a RealSkin Iplehouse Joshua, being a whopping $391 after shipping if I get him directly from Iplehouse. And that's nude and blank! The only doll I have at home right now, AE Mo, is probably going to be my cheapest by a large margin, since I got her discounted, with a free face-up, and I like her default eyes very much.
$1600 for a SOOM Sard. I have no excuse, save that he was (and still is) my dream doll. I can't say that I regret it either.
it's gonna be my Latidoll Cara if the Suiseiseki dress in that marketplace is her size I have to get it for her, the dress is nearly as expensive as the doll lol
By the inch, my Secretdoll baby fairies were the most expensive, in actual money spent, my Iplehouse Tedros, by increase in market value, my Dollshe Bermann.
Pretty sure my most expensive doll is Citilla, my volks School B/luts sdf hybrid girl. Her head was 170 from nyc3 dolpa, and i got her body secondhand for what turned out to be a mildly ridiculous price, since luts dropped their prices right after i got it. She turned out to be almost 700$, especially after taking wig, eyes, and shoes into account. ^^; Though when you think about it, the ratio of price per inch gets pretty interesting when you start thinking of pukis and other tinies XD;
My Soom Beryl is my most expensive doll, followed by my Volks Swd Yui fullset which I got off the marketplace here for actually a very good price. To me, there is no such thing as a "cheap" ABJD, but they are so worth it!
Soom Bygg fullset, easy, right now. Over $700 for him brand new, then you get to add in the aftermarket worth.
I'm trying to figure out who my most expensive doll was, and to be honest, now that I am trying to remember, they aren't as expensive as you would think they would be because I do my market research and wait for the right price for me. I suppose just through the amount of finagling it required to get her put together that my Maki girl was the most expensive, as I had to buy her SD16 body seperate back when there were far less of them, and then put in for Maki Tsuyoshi and split that with a friend to get her head. So she ended up being around $1150 or so for her head and body before all of her other customization was done. She's definitely worth more together now, and I definitely do not regret the effort to put her together. All of my other Volks dolls I've paid pretty much retail for, which is pretty awesome in the scheme of things. I think going by price per inch, my old Unoa B-el was the most expensive since I paid $700 for him back when there was only the one small preorder of the boys but still tons of the girls. Their prices have definitely come down since then.
Interesting thread...the most I have ever spent on a doll was my Lusion Black Dahlia, the most I have ever sold one for was an older version white skin Dollshe Bernard. My most expensive doll in my possession is my Volks SD Luna. I paid Volks price for her new in what was basically a split (I got the doll, wig shoes, the other person kept the outfit). I have no idea how much she is worth now, but I would guess she is more than any other doll I have.
Hmm, that would probably be my Soom Chalco tanned... and he's probably going to stay my most expensive doll for a while. Without the extras and just the tan included he was $898. With all the extras I paid $1208.
Special Lusion Doll - Dollist Dreaming Dahlia - LE 5 $ 1742.00. (Yipes!) But the shipping is free >.<
Wow! But I can't say I blame you. Last year I kicked myself for not getting into dolls BEFORE his release He's so gorgeous. It seems the most expensive dolls are the limited volks followed by MD. If you get the MD in fullset on the market after their release the price is a lot more. This is really interesting to me(sorry I'm a looser)
I do believe Aric (Little Monica Dyuke) is my most expensive doll. He was just over $600 by the time I paid for his shipping. The most expensive doll I have ever purchased was my DOI Kalix, but I wound up selling him later.
Wooow... I feel right in the middle then, saying that my most expensive doll was my DM Maunier Adam Cass- him, plus shoes, and school uniform all from dollmore cost me $517. (I got him during their free shipping period over the holidays.) My cheapest was definitely my first, my Bobobie An- Mikah cost me around 165 including shipping, and I've yet to buy any clothes for him (I make 'em all myself) but if I add on the uniform he'll be needing, and the two pairs of shoes, eyes and wig, he's probably closer to like $250-ish? But yeah... EDIT: This is a pretty big edit, but as I've now got one of dream dolls on layaway in the MP, he's now my most expensive doll XD Total, he's gonna cost me around $780 shipping included, and I'm never spending that much for any doll EVER again because it's giving me an ulcer just thinking about it. Still, he's beautiful and perfect, and in about 6 months he'll be totally mine! <-- laughs at self.
My Williams ~ Darkness of Ensign was by far the most expensive and I can say I will never spend that much again. I do not regret it for one second, as he has always been my fave since he was SD13, but sometime I cringe at how much I spent!!!
The most I ever have and ever will spend on a doll is $850. My most expensive doll was my first doll, a Volks MSD Toppi. I did nearly spend $2,000 on a Volks SD Kurumi off Yahoo Japan once, but luckily I was outbid by a couple hundred dollars. I really wanted her that badly at the time, but now I look back and shudder on the thought of if I'd actually won her. I don't think I'd still be as happy with her since I've fallen in love with YoSDs.
I am certain there is/was a thread like this before as my answer is almost the same as back then. My second hand Elf Lishe '06 was the most I have spent on a blank doll, but if you go by a per inch ratio my two Catsys take the cake. They would cost more than twice as much as my Elf Lishe per inch of height.
I just bought a NotDoll Belladonna on Ebay for $340 including shipping. I realize that I got a pretty good deal, but she's still my most expensive doll. I'm okay with that, though--I really like the sculpt, and she's fairly hard to get. So I spent the money I was saving for DIM Kassia, who'd have been my most expensive at $515. My concept of price has definitely been altered (or, uh, warped) since I got into the hobby. When I started, I could have afforded a $300 doll, but that was so scary to me! (I got an Obitsu.) And now I'm like, "A discontinued doll for three hundred bucks? That's so cheap!"
My most expensive doll atm is my Migidoll Miho on an Fdoll body, which was about $290. That's not very expensive at all, but I plan on getting him a better body soon. My Migidoll Ryu is only a head right now, but when he gets his body he will be my most expensive at $530. And then there's my Puki, which is expensive in amount of resin he is made up in. If he was an SD, he would cost something like $1500! But that's cheating xD (Face-ups, shipping, clothes, and maintenance materials are not included in any of these calculations.) Not nearly as expensive as some of the dolls on here, but hey, when you aren't old enough to get a job or drive, you don't get any kind of allowance, and your parents won't donate a PENNY to your doll fund, that's a lot of money to earn!
So far my most exspensive would be my first Bjd and a LE also, my Soom NS Chalco Fullset 1183.00 total. If it wasn't for layaway I wouldn't been able to get him. He's paid off but I'm sure it will take a long time for them to ship Him. I hate the waiting game.
right now i only have one doll so there for my most expensive is my soom heliot lol but the other dolls i have plans for are around 600 so he will still be my most expensive until i get my dollshe saint. because he is going to be spoiled rotten. speaking of that it would be really interesting to see a thread about people and the doll they spoil the most. (it would have to include pictures!) i wonder if it would be the little dolls (doll houses and little props) or the bigger dolls (furniture or clothing)
You'd think my Volks Madoka would be my most expensive doll, or maybe my Volks Williams (if he has a body), but it was my Volks Sweet Dream Lucas who won the jackpot. Still, like Kim, I know the market well and had the patience to wait for a good price, so all of them were a - relative - steel considering their molds. If I have to make a list of my dolls based on how much they'd sell for second hand, my Williams would be on top.
It would have to be my Volks Ryoya Konoe. At the time of the Dolpa lottery, I thought I'd be insane to pay that amount. So, silly me decided to let that opportunity pass me by. But he is my dream doll, I discover 2 months later, because he won't stop haunting me. So I bought him second-hand at higher than 1,500USD. (_ _) I was desperate at the time, and foolishly impatient.
Mine was a Dollmore Kyle Reese before the price drops. With him and clothing he was $850. That's going to be changing soon though as I'm getting a Volks SD13 Rinon and when I add the extra wig and clothes it'll be well over $900
I only have one doll that has hit the $1000+ range. My old version white skin Dollshe Saint. I wanted one from when I first got into the hobby, then convienced myself I didn't need it, then they stopped making them, and decided no I really had to HAD to have him, and so ended up paying secondary market inflated prices, but I know that already he is worth even more then when I bought him.
Well, for the doll itself (not including the stuff I ordered with them) is my Iplehouse SE Luo and he's a mass of resin ^^; with that lightly tanned skin so I expect a bit of priceyness. But my best friend paid for half of him to get for me, so ...if I were to say a doll I spent totally myself would be my Dollmore Glamor ModelDoll Lisa Rubik ^^, custom faceup by dolllmore.
well the most expensive doll I've bought so far is my Soom Ai. She cost me almost exactly 500$. This feels like nothing compared to you guys who bought dolls for $1000+, but for me 500$ for a tiny is a lot! especially when compared to my incoming CH Hani who only cost me 80$ ahah
Mine would be my Volks Hikaru Genji hybrid. I think just the bare doll (with default faceup) I spent about $1K+ on him. His head was expensive but overall I think I'll have to pay more now to get his head than when I got it. Then it would be my Volks Tony (bare doll with default faceup), just shy of the $1K mark... I don't regret either of them, they were worth every penny I spent. The one that raised the most in price would be my Euclase, I got him for a very good price by getting him direct and splitting off unwanted parts. I tend to like to keep a watch on the marketprice of dolls I'm interested in and try to 'get a good deal' when the time comes.
I totally understand, mine is also a Sard I only discovered this hobby last summer & had long since missed out, then I missed again when I tried & failed when the 8 normal skin ones went on sale last fall and sold out instantly. It was having a friend show me the Soom website that lured me into collecting in the first place and I fell hard for Sard and sighed heavily over all the ones I saw photos of both here & on flickr.... when I finally saw one of the 8 NSs with a "buy it now" in the DOA marketplace I jumped as I'd hit that point where I felt it was better to just pay the money and get it over with and get my doll "holy grail" and I have no regrets, he is by far & away my favorite & most spoiled, no outfits/wigs etc are too good for him! There's just something about that sculpt that does it for me I guess!
$950 for my Iplehouse Noctarcana Circus Luna Tamer from the company. Not fullset and only one face up but with all the cat parts. She was totally worth it though and although my mom cringed at the price, she loves her too. My first and most expensive tiny will be the Glot I have on layaway from the marketplace. She'll be close to $600 (although since someone's picking her up for me, the price is changing a bit).
My most expensive doll is my Iplehouse Luo, who cost me exactly $775.80 with shipping... aaand his planned outfit will cost me somewhere around $200 more on top of that. Needless to say, this was a HUGE jump from my first doll - a Bobobie Elfkin, who cost me a whopping $80. Yeek! It's okay though, because he's totally worth it... even if he's the most expensive thing I've ever bought... XD
Oh, I'm a cheapie. xD My most expensive would be Karrian, who has only cost me about $510 through the years. He started off as a free head - got him a body - and then got him an El head.
You're lucky if $800 gets two months of rent in your area. The cheaper studios here are that per month. ;-; Anyway, the most I've spent on a doll is $1350, fullset. It still makes me cringe that I spent that much money on something like a doll, but there are two things I consider. First, it was an incentive for me to do well in school, and I did recover from a really terrible semester before that. Second, I will be able to enjoy dolls for a much longer amount of time than I would with something like a laptop. The one that I had five years ago cost $1000 at the time, and it's just too old to function without spending as much to upgrade it as it was to buy a new one for $500, which will last that long if I am lucky. When I compare the price of dolls to technology...well, it doesn't seem nearly as bad.
Hum.. It depends xD; In my own currency, my Chami cost about $700 ($440 USD). But my LTF Bisou cost me about $550 NZD and he's a lot smaller XD The price doesn't really matter to me though. Price is not always equal to quality.
Wha?! @_@ I guess I must just have inexpensive taste. I think the priciest doll on my wishlist is my fullset tan Hong at $700! The most expensive I've gotten so far is our Littlefee Piki, bought secondhand for around $400.
Mine was around $2000 (shipping/customs fees included... customs was almost $200, and the package was marked down... xD), but I've since sold that one. Right now, my most expensive is probably my KDF Mill, which was about $350 once you factor in wigs/eyes and such.
My most expensive doll was a $400 Abio Angel of all things... but I was blinded by the thought of "Oooh, white skin Abio Angel girl, you can never find those... and she comes with such a cool outfit!" In the end, that outfit was worth $200 of her price! So I always feel guilty when no one wears it!
I have to say I completely agree with you. Technology is always changing, the latest thing is a 3D TV which is 3 grand (now is about a year i bet they'll be around 1 grand and the plasmas will be under $500 I find it hard to keep up with technology. At least with dolls you can enjoy them and a lot of them INCREASE in value rather than decrease. as for rent, we live in a pretty small apartment, a one bedroom and our water is included. It would have been 609 a month except we signed at a time where they were offering 100 bucks off a month.
So far my most expensive is an SD13 Elena...she was close to $800 after shipping. I had serious buyers remorse waiting for her to arrive and was seriously thinking I'd put her up for sale instantly because it's ridiculous to spend that much on a doll...and then she arrived. SO worth it. Though I'm afraid I'm making my other dolls (and possibly my children...) jealous of all the stuff she gets!
I'm thinking Luo will be my next addition...and yeah, the accessories I'm planning will definitely make him my most expensive! But he'll be my first boy, so he deserves some special goodies.
My most expensive doll is my Soom Heliot. I had brought him off the MP and as a fullset he came to $900USD (Shipping excluded). He's worth every cent, he's so damn fine! Hahaha. In the same boat, my Soom Amber cost me $900USD also, however I brought her from my bestfriend/wife/dollmentor so the shipping fees didn't exist - I brought the doll whilst visiting!
Heheh... I have to laugh enviously at some of the rents mentioned here... you mean you can rent a whole apartment for $800 somewhere? Luxury! XD That would get you a closet in a condemned building here in San Francisco. In New York, half of a closet. Ah, modern living is expensive. Anyway - biggest hit to the bank ever was about $3700. Mad bidding-war for a Satoko Ohno repaint, at the market's peak of 2005. Worth every effing penny.
