Your most expensive doll

Apr 14, 2010

    1. The most expensive doll I have is a Volks Dollfie Dream Yukino. She costs $418 for the full set. However, she was the least expensive to me because my ex-boyfriend and current Best Friend Forever gave her to me. Go figure. As far as most expensive to me personally, my Volks Mini Dollfie Dream cost me about $300 all told. Yeah, I know, real big spender. Thing is, I like vinyl, I like the fact that it doesn't kill my neck and shoulders to carry them, and I like the anime aesthetic of Dollfie Dream and some Obitsu.

..I'm in process of getting my second(third) doll. by selling my first too.. Oh man. and then he'll be the most expensave by 1000

    3. My Tsukasa. Hands down. I swore up and down that I would never spend more than $800 on a doll *head*... silly me. I wanted this boy for four years, though, so it was worth every single cent in my eyes. When I've finished getting him to look the way I want, he'll be miles ahead of my other boys. ... Until I get Jay his SD17 body, that is. *maniacal laughter*

    4. Difficult for me to remember as my last few dolls have been bought head first and body second, it's easier for me to focus on a $200 goal for a head as opposed to a much larger sum for the whole doll. I would have to estimate that my three current full big boys were all roughly around the same price of $600 for the basic doll and shipping without any further accessories (though my Kliff did come with acrylic eyes). I am guesing however my MSdoll/Dollstown boy will be my most expensive, reaching at about $750 once I bring his body home. For me I could probably reach a peak of about $800 on a doll and still feel fairly comfortable with it, but only if I was buying the doll in smaller pieces as I am now.

    5. lol, I was reading this thinking I was ok as none of my dolls have cost above $500 - but then yeah... hair, eyes, clothes... oops! Didn't take that into account! I've just bought a doll and already spent another $100 on clothes - and they're not even here yet!!

    6. The most expensive doll I own is my first and only (so far anyway) Louise MDD. I spent around $800 on her and her limited edition bustier outfit. That includes shipping and customs though... I technically bought her for $650ish. ^^; She was definitely worth it though, even if MDDs don't usually go that high up in price AFAIK. :3

But she's my only doll.....before I had 3 or 4 dolls for that much money, so it's been more spread out, it just now happens to be concentrated in Kurumi. xD

    10. My most expensive doll has to be- or will be once I get enough money to order his body- my K-Doll Kasis. The bodies I am looking into cost more than my MSDs. In total, he'll be around 550-600$. Not to mention all the clothing I have planned for him costs more than any outfits my other dolls have.
Out of my full dolls, the most expensive is my Dollmore Suntan Pado, which was 419$ with tan skin, face up, shipping, and some clothes (then they went and lowered the price of their dolls. Oh well xP).
Cheapest was my other SD, an AoD Mo. All second hand and in pieces.

    12. I just ordered my third full doll (Dia boy) and he cost me exactly 701$. Oh yes, that one dollar's important.
He's probably my last really big dolly investment for a looong while, but I'm fine with that, since he's been my dream doll for a little over a year, I believe.

Right now I'm just excited that he's gonna be home soon, spending the money is kinda secondary since I've been working and saving up for him and don't have any other bills to pay right now. The real exciting part for me now is to force my character into this doll once he gets here ;) and unfortunately that's gonna cost a good chunk of money as well, I fear. Once he's finished with the right wig, eyes, hands, clothes .. I'm sure he's gonna be way over 1000$ and that sum looks incredibly large to me right now @_@

    14. My Volks Konoe Ryoya would be my most expensive dolly. He was between $900-1000 but that's only because I didn't buy him fullset. He's on a regular SD13 body instead of the SDGr one so that saved a few hundred. Although I do plan on eventually getting him an SDGr body in the future. :sweat

    15. I'm currently paying for my most expensive doll so far, Spiritdoll Dark. He's limited to 50 and I knew at first sight I had to have him, so I took the plunge! ^_^ He'll be total $656.50 American including shipping... (actually it's a little cheaper Canadian because of the current dollar!) I felt calm after making the first payment and not nearly as freaked out as I thought I'd be. I'm sure he won't be my most expensive ever, as I plan on a Chrom, Souldoll Chiron (possibly) and both a Volks Okita and Hijikata for their aftermarket prices (and an F-38 eventually) when I have a stable, fulltime, well-paying job after school is done, or just save up for a year and buy no dolls if I can manage that. If you feel the doll is truly worth it, then the price seems a lot more justified. :D

I used to think his stringing was screwed cuz his arms are loose and his legs are way tight, but now I've gotten real fond of the tight legs--he's bloody stable! :D--so otherwise he's worth every penny :)

    19. ^ WOW.....man what I wouldn't give for a time machine. XDDD I spent an arm and a leg on my Williams, of course that was LONG after he was initially released, and a lot of collectors wanted him. I recently got him an SD17 body separately [which I'm paying off] so that puts his current total a little over $2600. Sadly is head alone was roughly $1450 which is a little over half of the price. Expensive big nose booger TAT

...as much as I would love that time machine, he was worth every single penny he squeezed out of me. I just keep repeating to myself "at least he wasn't a Bermann...at least he wasn't a Bermann...at least he wasn't a Bermann...at least he wasn't a Bermann..." xDDDD I tip my hat to Bermann owners everywhere~

    20. I just put my first doll on layaway & it's Iplehouse SE Akando, and I got the Mobility Thigh Joint thinger, so he's $747.00 US...before you count the eyes, wig, outfit, shoes, etc. I got him w/o faceup, but that's mostly because I'm planning on getting some custom esthetics done for him.

Basically, I did the exact opposite of the "get a cheaper doll first" mentality. :D

With her extra hands, two pairs of extra feet and an extra wig plus shipping, she came to $1,181. I still can't believe I spent that much, and right now all I have is her body since her face wasn't right and I had to send it back. ><

    24. My incoming Iplehouse Noctarcana Circus Tedros gets that award. He's $1200 for a near-fullset. How do I feel about having spent that much on a doll? Hmmm...uh...I can't really say since I haven't seen him yet. I just think that if I wasn't spending it on dolls I'd be spending it on clothes and other stuff for myself. Sometimes I'd rather spend that much on a doll and its clothes and accessories rather than designer stuff because you can do more with a doll. And the thrill of having the doll never really goes away, no? But when you buy an expensive bag or coat, the thrill goes away pretty fast.

    26. Gotta love soom. My most expensive doll was their monthly Chrom, and I got him as a full set, everything but the human shoes really. Well in total he costed about $1200. But at the time I was able to afford it. It's probably going to be a good long time, before I do that again. xD

But I am decently happy with him, despite the fact that soom apparently only sprayed clear coat on one of his paws. I kind of wanted to change their color anyway...

I paid for him first, $687 but that includes shipping ^-^ In comparison to A LOT of people I guess thats not so bad ^-^;; I'm a poor student though haha~ of course there is the $250 spent on clothes / wigs for him & another $120 spent on jointed hands and he's not even here yet! 38. Yikes. I finished paying for my most expensive doll two weeks ago. It's a tanned Iplehouse Tedros with a regular clothes set and shoes. He was over $1000 with mobility joints, face up with mustash and beard, and black wig. Luckily he was on layaway so it was easy to pay for; plus I had two jobs at that time to still be able to pay my other bills. I'm still in a bit of shock that I was able to do that. And of course i'll never tell any of my family how much he really costs. Though I am an adult and can buy anything I want they'd still go ape shit if they knew.

XD; So paid about $1350 all together for him. Highest value doll though would be my Sard 8, can't even begin to imagine his value, probably around the $2000 mark with his eyes, wigs and clothes. Which I will try to forget when bills come around.

    40. I started off so sedately, buying fairly inexpensive dolls from Chinese companies. I was fairly happy and satisfied for awhile. Further research and an upclose inspection of the more expensive dolls highlighted the differences but I wasn't ready to make the leap to ownership.

That is, until my husband decided to surprise me with a dream doll, a Senior Delf. My search for a macho counterpart for my SD girl led to the Iplehouse EID men. I just put down a grand on a Kamau and various pieces awhile ago. I filled out the order and twiddled with the extras and shipping for nearly an hour before I summoned the nerve to press "Send". I can't wait for him to arrive and somehow I doubt this will be that last time I save for many months to buy a doll.

    43. I believe that would be Darryl. His Kohya head with body ran me $1,400 USD before shipping (direct from Volks), and though I sold his body for $600, the one I replaced it with cost me $800 after shipping. I also purchased a set of Soom jointed hands for him, which clocked in at $172 before shipping, which puts his current total cost, for just the bare resin without eyes or wig or anything, at around $1,772 USD. Add on a couple wigs at $25-$30 a pop, four sets of urethane eyes at $50-$70 each, and a bunch of clothing and accessories purchased over the last seven years, and I've easily spent over $2,500 on him.

Wren (Tohya girl) is getting close to Darryl in cost, though I've not yet found suitable jointed hands for her. She's gone through more bodies than he has, jumping from her original SD13 boy body to an SD13 girl body to a twigLiMBS version 1 body before finally settling on her current Dollstown 15Girl body. I got her original head and body for a steal, though, so her overall resin price so far is probably more like $1,400 or so (minus wigs, paint, eyes, and clothing, of course).

Jian Yuan's head alone cost me $600, but he ended up on a very low-cost body ($151 after shipping), so he's not in the "most expensive" running because of that.

Hunter's going to be a Volks "Hatter" Williams, so he's going to run me $965 when he's finally shipped and charged, but it's doubtful he'll stay on the SD13 boy body for long. Depending on what body he does end up on, and whether or not I sell the SD13 boy body or repurpose it, his resin will probably end up costing me over a grand, easy. Still less than Darryl, though, and possibly less than Wren.

    44. My most expensive doll so far is the LT Kamau I just ordered from Iplehouse. He's relatively cheap compared to most of the dolls I've been reading about in this thread but still over $800 and that's before customs get their thieving hands on him! I felt nothing but excitement at buying him, I believe strongly in the old Edo concept of iki. I'm lucky in that I haven't been attracted to volks or soom limiteds or any of the mega expensive dolls yet but if I ever feel the need for one I'll just go for it.

    48. ...gracious. It's really hard to contemplate which of my dolls is the "most expensive," simply because there's a lot of factors! If you want to know how much is the most I've plopped down for any doll, then my first wins. She was an Iplehouse N. Cocori, Western Version.

But, centimeter for centimeter, a LOT of people are surprised that my tinies are, effectively, the most expensive dolls I own. In particular, my Fairyland Realpuki Pukisha! I spent about... $30 per centimeter on him. In comparison, my U-noa Sist was only about $18 per centimeter?

And then we get into the costs of faceups, clothing, wigs, eyes, etc, etc etc... or we could talk about personal value that we attach to our dolls. I have a few that I will never ever part with, for any amount of money. Does that make them my most expensive/valuable?

    49. Hmmm... I guess my most expensive doll is my Lumdoll Ain. I paid about $500 for him. But since he is discontinued and there aren't too many of him around, and he is in good condition, I could probably get $650 for him. If I ever sell him, which i have no intention of doing. *snuggles Sai*

Lyzrd makes a good point about personal value. My most "valueble" would be my KDF Litchi. She only cost me about $250, but you could offer me 5 times that and I would still say NO WAY! She's my precious first doll, and I would never part with her. My Ain is almost as special to me. I fell in love with him as Dollist was sculpting him in the Artist forum, and I wasn't able to get him until a long time after he was released. I value him a lot more than he is actually worth.

I wonder if I will value my "dream doll" (a volks D girl) as much? If I can get her someday that is.

    51. Mine is my Napidoll hybrid -- head and body together total about 350.00 (not including shipping). I know that's not much to some people but to me it's quite a lot and pretty much represents my cap for any one doll. There are still a couple of dolls I'd like to have, but I have a budget I stick with for each doll and typically I wouldn't even entertain buying a doll more than 400.00, it's simply not in my DNA to do so. I have no credit cards and make little money, so layaway is my friend! :)

    52. My most obviously expensive is my first. Dance is a DollTi D (short SD size) which I bought from a friend on a very reasonable layaway that took me over a year. When I carried him outside to the car, I really felt like I ought to be bowing over his box like I'd been gifted with an antique sword. (Those Ds really do that to you.) That feeling of responsibility hasn't gone away, either, BTW. But then he was pining for a BF. A big guy. A big guy who looks right when they're sitting together. (Don't they always?)
How to do right by him? A matchmaker couldn't have been more careful.
Now I'm biting my nails about a new faceup for Dance. Again, how to do him justice... This is another expense for an artist or for supplies of your own, if you want to customize, change, or refresh the faces.
From there, such a slippery slope! Various molds started captivating me with ideas, as back stories elaborate and suggest this character or that would make a *great* doll. (We all have our excuses...) I'm not collecting in the classic sense of reselling/trading up/speculating on fullset or OOAK dolls. I'm just interested in what I can do with these dolls as characters, very much as art sculptures. Learning about hybridizing means I'm a little perplexed how to attribute costs, when I'm swapping bodies and eyes and clothes around. And of course how you judge their value? Unless I sell them for parts, are these hybrids valuable to anybody but me?

    53. Well, my Kurumi is hands down the most expensive doll I own. I bought her from an auction here on DoA and she was a bit over $1800 if memory serves. I didn't know that three years later or so she'd be re-released. But she would have cost a pretty penny no matter what. But Kurumi is my absolute dream doll! So she was worth it :)

    54. Quick mod note: Please remember that discussion on DoA should stick with on topic dolls. Thanks!

    55. I started out with simple dolls, Hound (common back then) and luts dolls, then my tastes developed. By no intent most of my dolls are now limiteds and average at least the 800 mark, but a few stand out....

I have an Elf Yder head on a white Kalix DoI body, he cost a pretty penny to put together.

I have a tan Chalco coming, not a cheap investment, but perfect (and his partner WAS cheap)

I have a Euclase on layaway, who is likely to end up the most expensive in my collection.

I have been lucky though, MOST, though not all, of my dolls have gone up in value since purchase

    56. My most expensive Volks Super Dollfie was my recent purchase from an online auction. It is the most I have ever spent on a bjd. And, I think I hit a "ceiling" for the most I would every pay for one bjd, even though the dollfie came with everything, completing a couple pair that I have wanted since '2007. Now, I judge any new purchase of a Volks dollfie, or other bjd, against this most expensive purchase, and decide do I really need/want the bjd?

Any purchases I make of bjd's are offset by working harder, longer hours at my job to pay off bills. This is a judgement best made by yourself.

    57. argh~ this is a dangerous topic XD though none of my dolls individually are really that expensive ^^
      my first ever dollfie was/is a volks SD13 Nono <33 she's my darling! thought i really spent more then sure worth on her ^^;
my friend bought her in japan during the first ever release of SD13's! so she reeeally old haha i bought her from my friend about 8 years ago (oh my gosh! has it really been that long!? *feels old*) for $800 >_< she now comes up on Y!J and even DoA in the $150-300 range~ not that i'd eeever flip her anyway :p i love her soo much! i want to get her a twin someday X3
my next doll was an MSD Myu kit version i bought directly from volks for $350 i believe <3 then i bought a MSD Ken from DoA for $450 i think~ then i switch my MSD bodies around~! so now i have a MSD male Myu and technially a MSD mika!
before i bought my MSD Ken i bought a first release YOSD kuuta! on the second hand market he cost me about $700~ which REALLY sucks! cause since he was released a second time he pops up in the $300-$500 range all the time~
hmm who's next~ ah! my MSD beauty white sweet dream Myu! (thats a mouth full!) argh~ she cost a lot! i had to buy her in pieces! i bought her head for $300 ;-; then i hunted down her papers/box/default eye/default wig i think all that stuff cost about $50~ then i did an FCS at Tenshi no Sato so i could get her a swarriko body! (thats way back when swarriko bodies were Sato only) when i did the FCS i got the MSD F-18 head mold when it was Sato only but then it became a standard avaliable at all sumikas! (lol! this post is starting to make me sad it's like volks is picking on me personally!) anyway the FCS cost $750~ i sold the F-18 head for $250 to recover some of my moneys~ so in the end my sleepy Myu cost (after selling the FCS head) $850 ;__; NOW SHE'S AVAILIABLE FOR FCS ORDER!! so again not that i'd ever sell her~ she's truely one of my dream girls~ i'd NEVER get what i paid for her >_< xp nom nom i also have a YOTenshi Yuki! she (i call her "she" even tho she has an angel body) is a first release again v__v but another dream girl! i bought her for $650~ WITHOUT wings! so i ended up buy her 2 pairs of wings (her default wings and the momoji wings) for $50 bucks each so she cost me $750~ AGAIN since she was rereleased then rereleases AGAIN! her market value is only about $400-600~ boo! aaaand my newest darling is my MSD Nasia! she's also my cheapest <33 i bought her from a friend foor only $300! tho i want her to have all kinds of options ears so i did an FCS split that cost me $120! grr so i guess even she is worth $420 haha la la la this june i'm going to the Ginza Sumika store closing special event! XDD i LOVE that volks is giving us a chance to buy discontinued molds!! i'm getting a F-12!! FINALLY!! XDD she'll end up costing me arond $650 then she's gonna be shipped to my friend in japan then she will ship her to meee so in the end my FCS will probably cost like $750 haha aww~
i probably coulda spaced this post better to make it readable but meh! XD suffer from my incoherentness! <3
la la la so yeah none of my dolls are really expensive i just alwasy seem to buy at stupid times and make them cost more then they should >_< but i don't regret it! i love all my resin children!
glaaah i dont wanna do this but~ *adds stuff up* my current doll total is $4320! oh god! then after this summer it will at least be at $5070! (i say at least because beside the FCS i'm getting at ginza sumika i also plan on buying a SD13 boy so my Nono will finally have someone her size to play with! lol)
i don't even want to think about all the clothes, wigs, and eye they all have ;__; almost all their stuff is volks limited~ grrr stop nom nom noming my wallet volks!!

    59. My most expensive doll is Soom Beryl. I got the fullset directly from Soom. With shipping she was $1200,00 but I hit the jackpot with custom charges and had to pay €225 (about $300). She was/is worth it.:aheartbea

    60. Hmmm... I'm sure if I were to sell my dolls, I would get the most for my Sard or my Yugiri I'm pretty sure. I don't remember who I paid the most for at this point though! Let me review...

Soom Sard - Bought him directly from Soom, so he was about $800.
Volks Kaelin - Bought from an Ebay seller for a ridiculous markup, I paid $1200 for him. I did sell his body for $350 though, so he's now a floating head for the time being. :D
Volks Loa - Another instance of paying crazy markup prices on Ebay, I paid $1200 for her too.
Volks Yugiri - I bought the head for $500 (I think?) off Y!Japan, then his body cost me around $400.
Volks Tanpopo - Paid $300 for her on the Marketplace, which is a total steal for a Tanpopo.
Volks School C - His head was a gift, and his body was stolen from one of my old dolls, a Senior Delf Howl which I bought for a really good discount during a Luts Christmas event. I probably only paid about $300 for the body.
DiM Bellosse - I traded my Leekeworld Milch for her, which I originally paid around $400 for.

I suppose that once I buy the planned body for my Kaelin head, he'll be the most expensive one I own.
