Your most expensive doll

Apr 14, 2010

    1. Mine would be my Sweet Gale Cyril. His head was over $400 alone, and his body was over $700 from Doll Chateau. I have no idea how much he's actually worth, but he's definitely the one I paid the most for overall. Worth it.

    3. So far, I only have one doll (still on her way!), so my most expensive doll so far is only $185USD
I'm REALLY trying to stop myself from buying a Raccoon Doll Intimate Nana at the moment though, in Sweet Mocha skin and with her faceup, which would make my most expensive doll after that $430USD :aeyepop:

    6. My most spendy was Ipehouse HID Falcon. My total with getting some HID clothing and all the options I wanted was $1016. On the plus side. I did a bunch of doll sales to get the funds for him, so only $6 of that was out of my bank account.
The moment I saw him, I had to have him. He was perfect for a character I was trying to shell. The character is one of my sisters OC's, and I showed him to her and she agreed he was great.
I absolutely love him to this day. No regrets. :love:D

      ...Augh...

I can't think about this fellow and not feel imbecilic. Once upon a time, Loptr found a pristine Volks Irvin on the MP for $350. Yes, $350. With original faceup, kips, new elastic.. He was a steal. And I bought him. Except I wasn't sure what to do with him. I disliked the default faceup. But I couldn't bring myself to wipe it.

      Then I lost my job.

I'm sure you can piece together the rest. At least I was able to swap his head for one of my favorite Sooms. Despite not bonding, I missed him. Once I was re-employed, I bought the first one under $1000 I found.

I won't say how much, but he cost more than my holy grail...with shipping from Germany. Ouch.

She's secondhand but came with a sleeping head, all the hands, one pair of high heeled mag feet, second pair of flat mag feet, faceup, eyes and some clothes. Set me back $700 but thank God for layaway. Totally worth it. With insurance, she cost me a total of $990.

I don't think that I'll every buy another doll that was as expensive as he was - though he was worth every cent! Beautiful resin quality, he came fullset and no yellowing after all these years (he's from 2010).

    25. You're getting a Sparkle? :love You and I will be the only ones on the forum with ones then. Though Sparkle is around $500 even with the darkest and most expensive colors, so that should be a little easier to save for than $700.

Coincidentally, my most expensive doll is also an Island Doll Sparkle. But that is because I got the darkest color. And a Granado body. She'll be around $650, excluding shipping, which added on a good bit. Would have been $100 more with custom color match, but at that point I figured I'd be afraid to even play with her. *_*

    33. So back when we were very poor (like, legit, probably poverty line:() and just got into the hobby, my then boyfriend/current husband dropped about $1700 for a complete in box Volks Jun Tachibana from the original owner. :sweat It included the original magazine where you could have ordered the doll from and a few little things. We foolishly believed that we would only have one doll each so we decided it was worth it for his grail doll. :doh At the time, it was a good price considering the doll included it's original full set and had her default face-up and was in near mint condition. That, and other Jun Tachibanas were going for well over that amount on both eBay and here in not so mint condition. (I've only found one other Jun Tachibana that wasn't as mint condition as her with some bits missing and/or damaged for $1400 a few years back).

Obviously, it was such a financial strain because we needed that money, but she is my husband's grail doll so she was definitely worth it. And really, she's still his favorite doll, so no regrets there.

Honestly, when we were at our lowest, we had considered selling our dolls. Is it weird to say that we decided against it because it felt like we were selling one of our children? It's one of those things where we never thought of reselling our dolls as we got attached to them but it's interesting to see what our dolls would go for in the second hand market if worst case scenario ever happened to us again. Right now, there are so many doll choices that I sincerely doubt any of our dolls would go for retail value, but it's still fun to think of them as an investment even though they are not.

For after market value, I think one of our other dolls was worth more than the Jun Tachibana if we had sold her and her outfit at the height of her appeal. It is the Volks SDGr Charlotte. She is our third most expensive doll ($1115.07) and we got her straight from Volks back when Volks USA had a physical store in California. Not sure how much she would go for now, but back then I think we would have gotten at least double her original price.

If anything, this taught us to try to get the dolls when they are first released because dang...they are so much more expensive in the second hand market! Especially if you want one in mint or near mint condition.

And he was the most expensive until 2016/17, when I bought the red king fullset... and then that didn’t last either—both those dolls have been sold, and now it’s the Obsidian Twigling girl (fall 2020). €999+a second head. 41. Having a Trinity is great because people are like, "wow you have a $3000 doll! What a splurge, that's definitelly your only doll that price" and im like hahahhaa yes my most expensive doll, my only expensive doll, very unusual purchase....... (hides other $1000 dolls)

      Dollmore Sugar Amnesia Elysia

My problem is that I'm a sucker for doll add-ons. When I buy resin from the company, I want all the associated bits and bobs. So a doll that is not inherently expensive immediately becomes way more costly. The elysia, for example, has literally hundreds of dollars in resin extras (bust, head, heel feet, jointed hands...) because I am a sucker.

.... meanwhile, I just bought a $180 modified project doll (a whole Luts SD with a head!) on Facebook marketplace for fun, and most of my dolls are nude and half-put-together. I run the gamut of "this is ridiculous" and "that is ridiculous" with little in-between

    42. Dollmore Dell is my current most expensive. If Dollmore makes a Trinity size Boy I might break it, but I doubt I will go that high again, if for no reason than I very rarely purchase fullset dolls. Hard to say how much he would cost naked since Dollmore doesn't sell Lusion size dolls nude.

I am currently working on outfit of props for a hussar and the supply costs are hitting around $300. So my LLT Neil might be the most expensively dressed and done up of my dolls as far as single ensembles go. Given that a human-size hussar ensemble is something like two or thee grand depending on how high ranked you want to look and all the extra accoutrements, I suppose $300 for a scaled down version is about right lol

My boy Niccolo has the most singularly expensive wardrobe because he has the most Freedom Teller clothes of my dolls, but his head and body cost are around half of LLT Neil.

    45. When I first bought the majority of my dolls, back in 2009-2012, my most expensive was Spencer, my BlueBlood Waltz which was about $500 or so for dolls, wig, eyes, and a single set of clothes.
If talking total money spent on a doll, then hands-down it's Quinn, my DZ Shengxi/AoD 1st gen hybrid. He was $350 for naked doll and wig, but adding in all the stuff I've bought him, it's well over $1500.

As to current value... no idea. All but 2 of my original crew are now somehow DC's (full doll or head sculpt) and I have no clue on the current value, as I had to take a long hiatus from the hobby and am just now returning.

I have a second crew I'm working on, just started, and of them the most expensive has been Nathaniel, my Obitsu Henzel/50cm boy body, coming in at about $285 with shipping. He still needs a faceup, so add another $40-80.
I'm tentatively planning on a OfButterfliesAndThings Claudia. IF I get her, then she'll usurp Nathaniel as the most expensive of this crew, coming in at about $450.

    52. joke's on me-- Robb was somewhere between $600-700 and I have since purchased an Iplehouse Doll Choice girl in ebony resin, so....$900 is the new high.

those two are the only ones that are anywhere near those kinds of prices, though-- most of my other dolls are hybrids cobbled together from secondhand parts and less expensive bodies, or dolls that just came from less expensive companies. Everybody other than the Iple girl and the Souldoll Robb was $400 or less--- in several cases, much less.

...which does not change the fact that in 2018, I spent $900 on a doll.

    55. My most expensive so far was probably my Iplehouse girl since I ordered her direct years ago but was afraid they wouldn't have her later.
I mostly buy dolls secondhand now if I can, though I think my one Iplehouse male is a close second.

Honestly my grails from Soom will probably be the most expensive if I find them unless I get only their weapons and full sets. One of them hasn't popped up though and I want him as a full doll guaranteed. I'd pay a small chunk if I found him (at least $1200, maybe $2000 shipped if he's the right tone), though of course it'd be a layaway.

I don't often pay higher prices as I rarely get a chance to order anything new, so I enjoy the secondhand dolls.

I think I spent $500-$600 on him total (hard to remember, I bought him in parts as I could afford).
