Your most expensive doll

Apr 14, 2010

1. Ahaha, this old comment of mine (two years ago)...wow, I can't believe I went past the point where Gavin was my most expensive, but now, hands down, my Enaibi Briséis is the priciest doll in my collection, costing me just short of $1,800. Here's hoping I never spend THAT much on a doll again (though, she's totally worth it!). @.@;

2. My most expensive doll?, an Iplehouse Carina, I bought her extra hands, a wig, and shoes, and including shipping I think it was about $879 USD.

I am hoping to order a light tan Iplehouse Kamau later this month,( with extra geta feet and extra hands shaped to hold a sword and gun), and I have a terrible feeling he is going to cost me well over $1000 by the time shipping is added.

So mind blowingly expensive, but SO worth the price...

I find that if I think of them as sculpture, a piece of flawless beauty that, for God's sake, I can PLAY with.... then I feel okay about the price!!!

4. My most expensive one (was) - Soom Obsidius. I guess it was over $1000 with all the options & seam removing (not including the shipping), which was a VERY expensive for me. Sold by now.
Now the most expensive doll I owe is DZ Anson flower version fullset.

6. My most expensive doll to date is my LeekeWorld L-Type Arien on a glamor body. I managed to snag her from Denver Doll when Leeke was having its anniversary event. I got her with face-up for a personal-earth-shattering $550 before shipping.

Before her, I never wanted an SD sized doll, and then I saw someone else's version of her named Kaine, and I just LOVED her. After searching for over a year and only finding her head or finding her for well over $800, I gave up. If the event had never happened, I probably would not have had a chance to bring her home, and now she will be home this Thursday!! I am so excited to meet her, she may have to be my first box opening! :D

7. My most expensive doll was my Grey Skin Galena. With face-up, minus shipping, she was just over $900. Most of my other full dolls were between $700 and $800. I have no idea how things stack up with aftermarket costs factored in, though.

8. My Volks Chii at 135,000¥ not including the hundreds I've spent on accessories since. >.< Though, my SOOM Topaz/Amphibel is coming dangerously close to surpassing that. I've been "assembling" her piece by piece, she's been an on-going labour of love. I only her outfit left and then I will finally be done.

Edit: after posting this I decided to tally up my SOOM Topaz Amphibel hybrid thus far, she's already at $1435, her outfit will probably bring me closer to $1900.
Good God. *_*

9. My Sam, so far! He was $240 before shipping. With shipping, $265. Then his outfit--wig, $16, eyes, $11, shirt, $8, pants, $8, boots, $10, sword, $10, add another $20 shipping in...
Around $350 sounds about right. Worth every cent. I love my boy. :aheartbea

Hopefully I won't have to spend more than $500 to get my grail doll, a Soom Nightmare Crow. He was the most recent MD and I just didn't have the money for him. With shipping, he was $350ish. So hopefully I won't have to go over $500 if I ever find him on the MP.
If the timing was right, I'd drop $1000-$1200 on a Soom Arkose, just because he's so perfect for one of my characters. But I doubt I'll ever be in a place where I can do that. :sigh

11. My most expensive doll is a Granado doll Andy, before shipping his price was $579.00, applying the shipping cost it increased to $630.00. This doll does not bring eyes nor wig, so I guess if I add those the grand total would be approximately $690.00.

He has a DIM Tom Hifddleston head with a custom face up and has had his armor and staff custom made. Add in his urethane eyes, wig etc he has cost me over $1500!

29. Most of my dolls are in the $100 to 200 range. I kind of dumbly pride myself on how in expensively it can get legit dolls. Still my most expensive one will actually be a gift. My sister bought me a soom smokey centaur. My jaw dropped when she told me. He's one I've long pined after from afar since he's way out if the range where I could ever afford him. Being able to own him someday soon is like a dream. I'm currently trucking away at a summer job so that I can afford one of the Dollpamm boys, I'm thinking Reo. I may have to do my first ever group order though since shipping is kind of a lot. Eek! :sweat

32. My most expensive doll would be LoongSoul Bessie, who after shipping came to around $400 or so? But if we're counting accessories and all that, my DF-h Lingfeng (who is Aoba Seragaki) has to be my most expensive by far. I bought him as an in-stock fullset from AC around the holidays, because I'm an impatient baby, so he was about $400 like that, but then I commissioned his wig and outfit for $220 altogether, not to mention the boy still needs headphones from Camellia Dynasty ($25) and shoes that look close enough to paint ($20)... so as a complete doll he's $665.... about to drop $500 on a secondhand Soom Picro though. She's one of my grails though, so totally worth it!

35. I kind of avoid very expensive dolls... My most expensive was my first BJD, Luts SDF Blanchet, $600 back at 2008. (The economy at then was in my favour though, living in €uro area: converter in to euros, she was something around 400 €.)

I spent the year between high school and uni (2008-2009) working, so I was able to afford the dolls... I had a part time job along my uni studies from 2009 to 2013 but I changed my major and made a new study plan where I'm proceeding almost double speed compared to my old major so I have no time for part time job. Thus I have to make do with the student benefit, after paying rent and food I have something around $ 100 to spend on books, any clothes I need, lunches at uni and so on. So no expensive dolls for me. I managed to buy four dolls during spring though, thanks to birthday money and selling three dolls, and a fifth one (or a half of one ^^;) is due in a week, once the split is completed. Together these five are around $ 1200 before shipping and customs fees. They also need eyes, wigs and shoes, and three of them are going to have commissioned face-ups. And I'll try not to think the Half, who'll need his human parts = $ 300 + shipping + customs... All this will easily reach $ 2500, eurgh. Of course this was not one doll, but as the money was spent in less than two months...

(Sorry for random rambling. ^^;)

41. Mine was a Souldoll Street Fighter Jinwoo. When I got into the hobby his sale period had just ended but I desperately wanted one. Saw the mold come up on the MP a few times but always way out of what I could afford. Finally found one on the MP reasonably priced but still more than I would normally pay for a doll, I try to pretend I have some sense when it comes to money lol Bought him up and do not regret it. He's perfect and really brings to life the character I wanted him for.

45. Mine was my porcelain Enchanted Doll, and then my BJTales porcelain doll was next in line, I did have an Angel Egg doll but I sold her on, and then my two resin Enchanted Doll's are next in line for their $$$ I would also love a fully-painted girl from the Popovy sisters so she would then join their ranks.

I actually used to only collect the rare artist made BJD, preferring to have one beautiful art piece versus a handful of cheap resins that I regretted.... but the resins are sure beginning to pile up around me compared to my "NO resin dolls" policy I had a few years ago!!

46. Gah!!! Just thinking about how much I have spent on dolls over the last few years is freaking me out--and I don't even have that many! I like to collect pieces that I see as art that use the doll as a medium. Unfortunately, I do not have any on-topic dolls. . . yet! I hope to have a DC doll one day soon and I'm sure that will be close to $800 (still less than other off-topic dolls I have) but I think any dolls over $300 are expensive. All bjds, whether on topic or not, are expensive! Sheesh-I need cheaper interests!

52. I feel like the most I'd ever be able to spend on a doll is $700, and that's really stretching it, considering that the most expensive doll I've ever bought with money never reached $400. But $700 is what Aurendel, my Soom Elf Sabik, technically cost. To be fair though, I traded in order to obtain him. And I did a partial trade to obtain the doll before him. I've never physically spent more than $385 on a doll (And that is including shipping in the price!), but they tend to get more expensive every time I splurge on a new one, so I suspect it won't be long until I break that barrier. Then again, all the faces I keep oogling in the secondhand marketplace these days are rather out of my present pricerange. Budgeting is an interesting affair.

60. I check in on this thread once in a while and never quite know how to quantify my answer. :sweat
I think that even after all these years, the doll with the highest price tag - just the price for the doll and not the surrounding expenses - is still my Custom House Unique Ai Choa. She was $1300 in 2006, and had I not inherited some money that year, she would have been unobtainable.
If we're talking about total cost to achieve the doll that is sitting there on the shelf, it's a lot harder to calculate. I have a lot of hybrids and a lot of characters who have been reshelled several times. Those rarely clock in under 2K by the time they are done, but my F-33 girl is probably going to be the winner, since aside from buying about 2K worth of dolls/parts that didn't work out, there was also the extra cost of airfare, car rental, hotel, etc added on to placing my Volks FCS order...and I still have to buy her a pricey SDGr girl body on the secondhand market!
I try really hard not to question whether or not it is worth it, but I can recognize that I am much happier with the dolls I spent the money on to get just right vs the ones where I settled for an afordable temporary option.
