i. Keith "Kit" Callaghan I am not sure why exactly, but at first I wanted to give that tiny little Oatmeal face a big ole sea monster name. I called him Krataiis Treinos, Kit for short. There was, however, a point where I realized that this boy wasn't a sea monster, wasn't a wizard -- he was just a pretty average kid. Pretty average is okay too. I went and googled 'what is Kit short for' and found a bunch of options. I liked Keith the best, so that's what I stuck with. Keith means 'wood' which is neither here nor there, but Callaghan means 'strife,' which is a little more accurate. I also like the alliteration. ii. Benjamin "Vas" Vasquez I really wanted to name a doll Ben, and for a while I kept calling Kit Ben, which was mean and unfair. So I got myself a Ben, but when I first looked at that spunky little face he was like naw, man; I'm Vas. iii. Laika After tossing around a few names (Her name was 'Calla' for a while, since I had asked for naming suggestions and flower names seemed pretty) it turned out that with a Keith and a Caius, there were probably too many 'K' sounds bouncing around. I decided that since her name was technically a WIP, it didn't make sense to change any of the boys' names which were practically set in stone. I had been listening to Arcade Fire's 'Laika' for a while and the name was very pretty and kind of tragic. Since I intend to give all of my dolls tragic backstories anyways, it definitely fits! Laika is also the name of one of the first animals in space, as well as an animation studio. She needs a last name still! But that will come with backstory, I think. iv. Sahar El-Amin I looked through a bunch of Arabic names where I liked the sound and I liked the meaning. Sahar means Dawn, and El-Amin means truthful/trustworthy.
Dolls I have: Yui- named her back when I was into K-on Azura- just sounded right? Ayo- went through a baby naming website until I found one that fit Dolls I have on order: Nympha- Nymph Sage- after one of my ocs
This is Benjamin. I named him after Benjamin Linus from the tv show Lost. He kind of LOOKS like young Ben, but mostly I really just liked the name!
My current doll is named Cerys because I saw the name a few years ago and attached a meaning to it that was something like "of nature" (even though it's Welsh for "love" lol). They're a satyr so the meaning I gave to the name made sense. I didn't really mean to name em that, it just kind of happened. The doll I'm planning on getting is probably going to be named Sage? Based both on the herb and on the person. The one I'm looking at is a satyr I'm gonna mod into a moth c:
I like this thread! 1. Emily Lavender - Emily was my number one pick for a baby name. I was going to use Rose as her middle name, but I remembered there's a scary movie called "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" and decided I didn't want that. 2. Briallen Gwynneth - Bri is super pink, I got her a super cute pink face up so I wanted a cute pink flower name, Briallen is Welsh for primrose, and some primroses are pink. Gwynneth is just another Welsh name I like. 3. Alexandra Delphine - I wanted Alex to be a tomboy so I picked a good name that shortens to a unisex name. Delphine is a French name that comes from delphinium (a flower). 4. Fujiko - She's a mori girl so I wanted a Japanese flower name that worked and Fuji is wisteria which is a flowering tree. -ko is a diminutive. I write it with the kanji for child. 5. Cheonsa Nari - Cheonsa is a Delf Angel Elf Soo so I wanted her to be named Angel and luckily the word for angel in Korean is pretty! I saw that Nari is a Korean name that is an indigenous Korean word for lily, and I loved it so I grabbed it. 5. Sayuri Tenshiko - Sayuri is ALSO an AES so I wanted her to also be a an angel lily lol! But she's the other way around, Sayuri is "small lily" and Tenshiko is "angel child." 6. Orchid Noe Adams - As you might have noticed, all of my dolls are named for flowers. Orchid is exotic and purple. Purple is her theme color. She's a tan doll so I decided she's of Peruvian heritage, and most people in Peru speak Spanish (although some indigenous languages are still hanging on) and Noe is a Hispanic name (although it's usually given to boys). Orchid Adams is the heroine of a book I really love so when I picked Orchid I knew Adams would be her last name. 7. Himeko Himawari - She's a Delf Ari Wink so I decided she'd be a super cutesy magical girl and Himeko means little princess. I decided sunflower would be her last name, just because in fictional Amber Japan that's okay. 8. Kumiko Himawari - I have a Delf Ari on layaway right now, and she's going to be Himeko's sister. I don't have any idea what Kumiko means, it was one of my friend's names back in college and I think it's pretty. I have a Leeke Arien head and a PeaksWoods Goldie head, and a Minifee Sarang 15 head on the way. Any idea what flowers I should use?
Resin Dolls: Juniper (waiting for her to arrive) - Originally I had a story about her being born under a Juniper tree or something but in the Pathfinder campaign I ended up using her in, her backstory was solidified in a completely different direction. She comes from a world where everything is overrun with forests, so a nature related name fit perfectly. Plus it sounds very beautiful and gentle (just like the character!) OT Dolls: Rosette - I got overly excited of getting a bjd even though it was plastic and used my favorite girl's name even though now I'm not too fond of her anymore. The name is stuck though. Mimi and Momo - 2 Mama Chapp dolls that are the same doll in different colorways. I couldn't come up with anything good for the two of them so I just gave them variants of Mama.
I've had horrible art block for the last year, and over the summer I got tired of not drawing at all, so I got one of those cheap composition note books and started using it as a scribble book. (I swear this is going somewhere.) Out of the doodles and scribbles emerged some poor guy with no name or character or anything but a pretty distinctive look.....then fall rolled around and Ringdoll released him in doll form as K. Which freaked me out a little, but hey, also awesome. So I bought K as a blank head. When asked who he would be I answered with "I don't know. I'm just calling him John Doe for now." Months later and I finally got him a body and he's all together and sadly it stuck....I can't think of him with another name now.
Nebula is a space gargoyle. I wanted her to have a spaceish name, so i asked my boyfriend what he thought and we both said Nebula at the same time. So im sticking with it, i would possibly change it but its kind of special to me that my boyfriend helped with her. Uranium is named that way because she's a mutated plant, and also cause i heard the fallout songs about uranium too many times. Facebones is an undead baby. She has bones on her face. The last doll i've named is Fuckface. Its my characters name in some games, and i think it fits her well. I have to figure out two names for my future dolls though. I just need a fitting name for an evil cannibal dude and a baby dragon.
that to me sounds like the base for a character to me... 'the man with no identity searching for his past'... they make movies and shows based on the concept... I say run with it!
1. Meep: Sounded cutsie and almost like a cartoonish alien sound. 2. Jillybean: Heard it on Chicago Fire/P.D. and loved the nickname. 3. Lucas: Sounded like a more femme boy name
I had posted on this thread earlier, but at that time, Laika didn't have a last name! I gave her a last name the other night, though -- I was looking at her and just contemplating how sweet she was, and how she made me think of Loreena McKennitt with her red hair and her sweet persona. I wanted to give her a name that would reflect Loreena as well. Laika Loreena was a little redundant, and I didn't like the sound of her last name being McKennitt. Like I had mentioned in the first post, there would be too many K sounds! Loreena's middle names (Isabel and Irene) were vowels, and didn't fit well with the end of Laika's first name being a vowel already. As I read about her life, however, searching for inspiration, I discovered that she was born in Morden, Manitoba. The sound of the name Morden pleased me, and it worked well with her first name. Despite its sinister meanings in other languages, I was hooked. Given that Laika is also a name with tragic associations, I did not mind at all!
ochinchin because it stuck bc some troll recomended boku no pico to my friend and we've been saying that to eachother and to our group as a joke, its kinda cute actually ;w; ................................ if u dont know the meaning
Alice was named this because back then I was super obsessed with Alice in wonderland, and she was originally supposed to be a sort of "dark Alice". Also because I asked my mom what I should have named my doll between Alice and Ashley and she said Alice. Aravis is a - pretty weird, ridiculous story. His original name was Viceard, because at the time I was in love with the name Vincent, had like, 5 or more ocs with that name. So my first instinct was to name him Vincent - but since I already had so many Vincents, I decided to call him something similar - Viceard came from the main guy in a hentai I saw back then. Pretty weird, I know. Because of said origin I decided to change his name, and a friend suggested Aravis, so that his nickname could still be "vice". The fun thing is, for some reason, in my head I still always end up calling him "Vincent" or "Vince" instead. Ashley was simply because I really liked the name and wanted to use it after not using it on Alice.
Cicero is named after the crazed jester character from The Elder Scrolls series, because my mom playfully said that his outfit and faceup looked like a clown's. (Turns out his personality is completely different from his namesake's but that's okay!) Dhalsim is named after a character from the Street Fighter series, because they're both bald and the game character looks kind of meditative, which I think fits well with my doll's character.
My doll's names basically just pop into my head, usually in the form of an introduction, and usually when I first let them out of their box. Lol, weird I know.... Occasionally, a doll will introduce themselves before they arrive, but mostly I don't learn their name until after they arrive. With my first doll, my "tester" doll as it were, I did sort of pick the name. I was starting small with a YoSD sized Customhouse Petite AI, who was going to definitely be a little boy about seven or eight, named Kestrel. Lol, the minute I opened the box, I was immediately informed with that earnest seriousness that four and five year olds pull off so well, that I'd gotten the name right but not the gender. Kestrel was a little four year old girl, and a girl she would stay! I'm not really a collector of girl dolls, I much prefer boys. So of course I immediately purchased four more dolls, MSDs this time, who were indisputably boys. The plan being that I'd rehome little Kestrel once the boys got here. Since no definite names were taking shape in my head I figured I'd wait and figure out their names once they arrived. I was all prepared with several baby naming books that I'd picked up. The boys chose to arrive all at once, and I never even got a chance to use those name books with that lot. The first one out of his box, my Volks SDC Arashi, proceeded to introduce himself as Peregrine Fox, and followed up by telling me that the next fellow I was unpacking was his younger brother Merlin Fox, a Volks MSD Mario. I was also informed that Kestrel was their baby sister, and to "Please, please not send her away!" How could I possibly rehome her after hearing their pleas, which is why she is still here along with her now three older brothers. The third boy, a Volks MSD Ken, shyly introduced himself as Autumn Grey, a school mate and friend of Merlin. I learned that Audie is an absolute horse nut, who would rather ride than eat. He's an excellent artist, he loves drawing and painting. Audie is also Peregrine's biggest fan and admirer, basically he has a huge crush on his friend's older brother. That left the last box, which contained the Volks MSD Kohaku. Those of you who are familiar with the Kohaku/Hisui sculpt know just how different looking this particular sculpt is, even compared to most of the rest of Volks older sculpts. Even having seen pictures of him I was still surprised by how different looking he was in person! His default wig was light silvery gray, and his eyes which I believe Volks calls hazel, and which looked amber brown in his photos, were a bright almost neon yellow. I've since discovered his eyes always look this color whenever he is mad, or disgruntled. As he and I stared at one another, I laughingly remarked, "Well, you're certainly different, what should I call you?" Receiving no response, I rather jokingly added "With those yellow eyes, maybe I should just call you Lucifer." My joking comment was met with an immediate and enthusiastic "Yes! I like that! That's my name!" There was no deterring him either, he was adamant that his name would be Lucifer. Even when I pointed out that most people have last names, and that he needed a last name too. He was not stopped, he simply added Jones, and Lucifer Jones he has remained. Although I mostly just call him Lue, for short.
1) Vince... when I was looking at dolls and planning/saving for my first, it was a name I just had a lot of really positive feelings around. So even though his character really changed and developed once I physically had him, I just felt like the name suited him. 2) Pete and Billy... got their names from a pair of characters. 3) Marigold is my birth month-flower, and since my birthday is/was in the middle of autumn, and she is/was a birthday gift, and also her sculpt name is autumn, and she's sort of a seasonal forest spirit, it fit.
I am absolutely in LOVE with the Indian aesthetic - fabrics, clothing, jewelry, architecture, music, movies, etc. So I named my Iplehouse JIDs - Dharma and Sanjay. They are a Princess and a Prince - not related (yet). Sanjay's horse - Battat 'Arabian' - is named Pawan which means 'Wind'. He's named after the white horse in the Bollywood movie AŚOKA starring Shah Rukh Khan. I also have a DollLove Ladon - not related to my JIDs that I named Aidan - named after actor Aidan Turner. So of course when I got Aidan a buddy - a Dearmine Gorgi - I named him Kili who was the Dwarf character in the Hobbit trilogy played by Aidan Turner.
Oh, this is a good one. Lived in the city for a while, all the subways were covered in signs that said things to the effect of "DO NOT TOUCH THE THIRD RAIL OR YOU WILL DIE" I thought it would be cool to try to grind it on a skateboard. I don't know why I named my doll after that, but that's the origin of it.
I have a few more characters not already mentioned.... Rina/Adrena- Rina is part of my name, which my 12 year old self thought sounded cool on its own. Since I intend to publish under my own name though, I didn't want to literally be the character's name... this is why Adrena came around. Now the ties are a little more subtle. Also makes sense for an ex-assassin whose magical responses are heightened with adrenaline. Balik- oh boy, this name is a confession. Rina was originally (when o was 13-14) in a roughly written fanfic, with Kalona from House of Night... now, when I got serious about the series, I couldn't have Kalona in it anymore, so he morphed into Midnight, who took on the name Balik when he fell. Balik came form the names given to his kids in another fanfic, sidebar. Balik/Midnight was male, by the way. In Rina's next adaptation, they had an ill-fated tryst. My latest adaptation features a female love interest for Rina, still named Balik, and midnight and Balik became distinctly separate, though both celestial powers. Tacet- her name is the musical term for when an instrument is dropped out of a piece of music. I wanted a name that fit with thee brothers' sound related names, but was distinctly separate. Silence was an early attempt at a name, and whisper, but neither fit. I chose the name Tacet because her and her father both make sunstones, which harness the energy of a person's entire existence, and take souls completely out of circulation. Pretty much the most illegal thing a person can do in this universe. But the idea of souls being removed from circulation fits with Tacet as a musical term.
Shaylee- she is a fairy from ireland and i guess i took it too literal since her name means fairy princess of the field. She is not exactly a princess but she was born in a field of fowers so that is what i looked for when searching for a name for her. Clover- again when it came to her I wasn't very original. At the time of her character creation all i knew about her is that she was irish, had green eyes. At first I thought her story was going to take place in ireland and only have mythical creatures known to ireland so i guess i though how mush more irish can you get then a four leaf clover? So yea
What a lovely read - it's fantastic to see everyone's naming process. Mine is very Silmarillion-y: Nelyo, after Maedhros (Nelyafinwë). I'm keeping Fin on hold for my soon-to-be girl, this one after Fingon.
Hello ^-^ at the moment I have Cinder: Doll Leaves Oscar sculpt (because i wanted a strong yet feminine name) Alice: Doll Zone (Just felt like it fit her) Liliana: Doll Love You-You (She is a demoness and i wanted to take from the name Lilith) Nemo: Doll Chateau Lance (My room mate helped me come up with his name because his character does not have a soul.) Raven: Resin Soul Pixue (because he is the guardian of a library and I really like the song ravens in the library) Moss: Ring Doll easter event rabbit (I wanted her name to evoke the idea of nature and forests) Elly: Soom Ondiin (I wanted her to have a cute name with strength behind it.)
Okay on to my main crew...first i should probably say that Destiny, Aqua, rontu and seil (plus others that i dont have yet) are from a dream. So all their names minus rontu's were already subconsciously established in my mind via dream. Destiny- not her name is her title as in goddess od destiny. Her name is Kaze (wind) Ruku. I actually recently researched the word ruku and apparently it's a form of bowing. Although in her world it means power. Aqua- well that just means water which fits i guess since he is a water dragon sprite. Seil- I also had to eventually look up what seil ment lol. It is a german word for rope. Of course their word is completely diffrent from ours and they speak a diffrent language so thier names sometimes mean something diffrent or nothing at all. This is the case for seil in that word his name means light. Rontu- now although rontu the panther did apear in the dream i never heard a name for him. So for him i actually did name him. I was around 12-13 when i first saw this world in my head and i was reading i believe island of the blue dolphin at that time. And in the book there is a dog? Named rontu i think it meand wolf eyes or fox eyes either way i liked it and thought sure thats a good name for a panther.
I only have one doll right now, but I have some names planned for my next two dolls just don't know if they will fit the personalities of the dolls. Lan - I wanted a short and simple name since Lan is a fairy who is extremely energetic and doesn't have time for anything long.
I don't have my dolls yet but my main character is: Willow- meaning slender and gracefull, she will be my tree climbing explorer who seems to attract random people and things and my second girl will be: Mia- meaning beloved, wished for child, she's going to be my orphan girl who Willow takes under her wing.
My current dolls are as follows: *John Alec Hailey is named after two musicians that I like, John Entwistle and Bill Haley. I tweaked Bill Haley's surname to make pronunciation a bit clearer. His character has been called "Johnny" from childhood. *Alistair Rufus Adalwolf is a werewolf. Okay, I admit that his mold is called "vampire elf Kirill," but I thought a werewolf would be more original. Thus I chose a first and last name that meant "wolf." The middle name "Rufus" is Latin for red. Alistair came with red acrylic eyes and still wears them on a regular basis, so I worked in a name that meant red. *Chloe Ashling Faulkner is a leprechaun, and like all good leprechauns she's green all over. The name "Chloe" means green, and it's also Gaelic like the leprechaun legend. Chloe's middle and last names are just cute names that flowed well with her first name. "Faulkner" is actually old French rather than Gaelic, but it's stuck now! *Johanna Athaliah Skye is an elf. I wanted something that sounded elvish without being too Lord of the Rings-ish. So I picked two names from the Bible (Johanna and Athaliah) and threw in a name I read in 13 Reasons Why (which I've never fully read, LOL). Oddly, the biblical characters Joanna (no "h") and Athaliah were complete opposites! *Guinevere Hollia Skye is Johanna's half-sister and a half-elf. My mother loves the name "Guinevere," so I promised that my next girl doll would be named that. "Hollia" came from a half-elf character in a book that I've since forgotten the name of. My planned dolls are as follows: *Roger Daltrey Buchanan is named after another musician I like, plus a random Scots name that I threw in. If I have my way this doll will bear a passing resemblance to Roger Daltrey. *Nikolaus Aloysius Baumgartner is named after Niki Lauda (a former Formula One driver) and Felix Baumgartner (a skydiver). I don't have any particular infatuation with either of those men, but I like their names. Like Chloe's middle name, "Aloysius" is just something I threw in. This character prefers to go by "Niki," like his namesake does. *Ylla K is not original. I stole that from a Ray Bradbury book. *Anne Elizabeth Hailey is named after my mother, plus Bill Haley again. She is Johnny's sister so it's only appropriate that they share a last name. *Elizabeth Taylor Hailey is named after the actress Elizabeth Taylor, plus Bill Haley once again. As with Roger, I want this doll to bear a passing resemblance to her namesake. Like her brother, this character has a nickname, "Libby." *If I can ever find a male Wishel, I plan on naming him Wozzeck after the Alban Berg opera. Again, it's something I took a liking to.
I currently only own one doll, but here's the story behind his names: Bambi - I wanted something that doesn't sound like him at first, but after a while it starts to make sense. My Bambi is very alike to the Disney classic character: sometimes clumsy and has long skinny legs. Also is kinda awkward but very kind at heart. Stéphan - Bambi's mom is from France, so I wanted that to show on his name. Sesay (surname) - Bambi's father is African, so Bambi inherited his last name.
Tyler. named herself after a friend i lost to suicide in high school. Sebastian. named after the actor Sebastian Roché. Jeremy(TJ). i am really undecided as to what his name will be but so far hes looking to be named after my husband ^^.
Grimmoire - A pun on the fact that the character is a necromancer, her father is named Grim, and he has a massive ego, and a poor taste in humour. Frauss - I honestly don't remember where I got the name I was looking up gods that mimic and something led me to that.
Staerling- Different spelling of starling, like the bird. His best friend (pretty much his family) is names Willow, so tress and birds go well together. Niko- He's a cheery boy, and Niko is the Japanese onomatopoeia for smiling. Sophie- To be honest, I made her character when I was about 12 and don't have the heart to rename her. I think she was named after Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle. Sif- I know it's Nordic and means wife/bride, but honestly, I just think it's really cute. Calan- He's an elf in the Dragon Age universe, and it sounded like it fit. It's a variation of Gaelic name meaning battle. It's super fun reading about everyone else's naming process too!
My girls name is Ylvie. I wanted a name for her, which puts a smile on my face when speaking it out loud. It had to be something soft and warm, like a gentle summer breeze.
Some random doll names of mine Syrinx is from a Rush song Temples of Syrinx Triinu is the Estonian version of Katrina and sounds otherworldly. Shura is from a yugioh card (Shura the Blue Flame) I never named Clover, Piper or Prudence, they all were named by the lady I bought the 3 from.
@Xanadu Syrinx is also a medical term and the name for the songbird analog to the human vocal cords. As a weird aside, the songbird syrinx is really cool! It's unlike the human vocal cords, as the vibrating structure is actually controlled by two sets (4 total) of muscles whose vibrations in a fork-shaped tube. This allows the bird to sing two nonharmonic notes at once (harmonic notes are are like the multiple tones generated by rubbing a wet finger around the edge of a glass). I think that makes your name pretty cool too.
A friend! I'm a Tolkien fan too. Sauron is my favorite villain of all time, so I borrowed one of his names for my first doll. I always thought "Annatar" had a nice ring to it (no pun intended). Translate it from Quenya to Sindarin, give it a feminine ending, and it becomes "Antheryn." Not a bad name for my fire-wielding sorceress character.
Hey, that's one amazing feminization of the name! (...says the very person that names "Fëanoriel" every female character created in MMOs...) You, my friend, have an amazing grasp of elven lingüistics and a fantastic taste in villains And the Sauron thing is quite a coincidence! You see, I'm saving (and gathering courage) for my grail, and one of his naming options is actually Mairon. The other one is Melkor, which I feel would make Nelyo quite uncomfortable and fearful of his arm-hand integrity. Fun times
Yes, poor Nelyo will be terrified! And flaming angry too, maybe. Those Feanorians have such tragic emotional issues. What sculpt did you choose for Nelyo? I'd like to shell him someday, but so far I haven't found the right doll. Handsome Noldor can be a bit elusive. I think I've found a good Fingon, though. Iplehouse Kamau tempts me unreasonably. Maybe I'll order him and dress him in armor one day.
Fae - Fae gets her name from an old username I used on the internet when I was 13. Using it, I kept thinking of a cat girl with faerie wings and Fae was born (minus the wings). Valen - Valen got his name when I was trying to find a name for a selkie. I stumbled across the name, which is considered a variant of "Valentinus", and fell in love with the way it sounded. Melody - The doll when I first saw her looked so much like the character from "Josie and the Pussycats" that I had to give her the name. Sera - Honestly, she's named after the Dragon Age Inquisition character because that one song about Sera was stuck in my head when I got her. Orion and Saffron happened to get their names because I was needing names and they just fell into place.
Bellëthiel [Tarot card 13.The Death Devonia - SoulDoll] ~ This name means "The Strong" in Elvish Heddwyn [Kid Delf Yul Romance Satyros ver. - Moonlit Song Limited - Luts] ~ This name means "The Pacific" in Picts I still have other BJD but I have not yet chosen a name ^^'
Dahlia - Name about little cat I adopt, I found in a parking of supermarket Violet - love the name Eileen - i don't remember! Arlene - love the name
Secunda - It's the name of one of the moons in Skyrim! Secunda is also my doll which represents time and flow. I thought Secunda was fitting for that! My moon child. Pandora - I have always liked the story of Pandora's box. Pandora is inspired by the daedra Azura from Skyrim as well. She represents darkness, justice and loyality. Skyelar - I don't really remember why I named her that, but Skyelar is my secundary moon child, as she is my association with the moon. She represents worship and cleanliness. Aurora - As in Aurora borealis. She is my creative girl, vibrant, happy girl. So something as colourful and pretty as the Borealis would fit her! Paprika - Like the spice! She represents sexuality, shyness and curiousity. Everybody needs a little spice in life.
(I'm gonna preface this by saying these are just wip dolls! none are complete yet ) Ilya - I just really love the name ^^'' Remy - also really like the name Alcyone - after the figure in Greek Mythology, also the name of a star
1. Yuki Shiro. Her name is a literal translation of Snow White but in Japanese because she llooks like a Japanese version of Snow White. 2. Anne. Her name is taken from the book series, Anne of Green Gables because her hair looks like Anne's hair. 3. Hummingmint. She is fully designed to be like the Sanrio Character of the same name.
Oh geez. I won't put all my dolls or characters here, but...maybe a few. Dolls I currently own: Aelic - I just liked the name! He needs a new last name though, because his story has changed a bunch. Ilya Spire - I just liked the name Ilya, and Spire was adapted from Spier, again just because I liked it. Fukuto Toshimaru - Though the surname/given name structure for Japanese names wasn't adopted till the 1870s-ish (I believe?) and Toshi is from historic Japan, I still wanted to keep that structure; I think clan or family names often preceded given names then anyway, but it had more of a "Given name [of the] surname [family]" structure. So technically I suppose Fukuto no Toshimaru would work, Fukuto (meaning good luck) being his family name, and Toshimaru his given name (with -maru often used as part of the name of a younger boy). (I also need to figure out the kanji for his name; it's on my list.) Dolls I want soon: Nikos Spire - Ilya's twin brother! I was originally trying to choose between Ilya and Nikos for Ilya's character, but ended up making brothers so I wouldn't have to choose. Sylvan Spire - Ilya and Nikos's little brother. His name comes from an excavation report I had to study for my most recent project. I loved the name! Niku (肉) - Means flesh or meat in Japanese; he's a zombie, so I thought it was fitting. :P (I have the kanji for his full title somewhere, but I don't feel like fishing it out right now.) Kaimana - He's a sea spirit, and his name is Hawaiian for "the power of the ocean." Jasper - My tall bunny boy! The name means "treasure" or "treasurer," but I really just chose it because I like it. I could keep going for ages...I have tons of characters and names and reasons behind them, but I'll stop here for now!
Marie as in Marie Antoinette Aquarius due to her controlling water Lucy as she has lucid dreaming apart of her story Dante because he's the devils son and dantes inferno Lilith because I've always liked that name and she embodies lust Aurora because she's a magical unicorn Lucifer because he's evil and demonic
Jaellis- combination of Jael and Gallis (both meaning 'goat', because she is a goatherd). neither of them on their own suited the character but when I smushed them together it worked. Raymonde- named after Raymonde de Laroche, the first woman to receive an airplane pilot license.
Currently the only doll I have prepared to get a shell for is Sophie. She was named as such because the name means wisdom/skill :>
Names for my SD sized dolls: Linnea: I was flipping through an art book looking for name inspiration. I saw some of Monet's water lily paintings and remembered the children's book "Linnea in Monet's Garden." Kouzubaki: I got a Volks Shinku one off. As "Shinku" means "crimson," I named her "red camellia" in honor of her mold. Third doll is in name limbo. She's a Volks SDGr Jun whose original name, "Jungiku" referenced her mold and was a compromise between me and her co owner. I think "Chisa" flows better and reminds me of sakura in bloom.
Annix Plays-the-drums-and-bass : Annix is a diminutive for Aneirin and he likes music remixes Pike Likes-fire-engine-red : Pike from Steerpike of Gormenghast and he definitely likes BRIGHT RED Chanterelle Shrooms : Chanterelle is a Mushroom Fairy JeongHo "JoJo" Kaulana : JoJo is his nickname but he's Hawaiian and Korean-American so I picked names I liked Aurelio isn't home yet so I have no idea what his real name is. I've also been calling him Goldy and Goldfinch.
Etienne: The name of my favorite character ever (who my doll is modeled after) lllya (illya): A sweet sounding Russian name that suits his character. Chauncey: The perfect name for a royal brat.
-Natascha Eveshka / Eveshka means cat in russian and she reminds me of kitten x3 - Lucifer / he was really a sudden idea but he really grow to my heart, and he is the satan after all xd Elin - Teras Elinu goddess add me the idea of the name but honestly i lost her name with my account Ebichu - my hamster got it cause i like the anime where an idiotic haster is doing houskeeping xD
Here's all the names I have so far! (Including names of dolls I don't own yet) Heather: I was going for a cheerleader aesthetic for her, and to me Heather sounded very "white cheerleader antagonist in a 90s high school teen movie" which is what I was going for! Adrien: I have no idea how I came up with this one but it fits him so I'm letting him keep it Willow: Going for a goth/punk demigirl name and Willow fit! Selene: She's the goddess of night, and Selene is the name of our moon! Eloise: Goddess of day, derived from Helios, the greek god of the sun! Annabelle: Just a nice cute name for my precious sweetheart. Avery: What my friend thought of for the doll I'm buying off him, and I got attached to the name.
- Synti means sin in finnish language: She is a little demon absorbing all the sins that are afflicted to her patron - Wu Xiang Jia: I actually have no clue if and what meaning this has... I just liked the sound of all this together and he's Chinese... XD - Fuyuyuki Reito (Fuyu: Winter, Yuki: Snow, Rei: Soul, To: door): Reito was born in winter therefore the last name. His first name is written with the kanji for soul and for door, meaning sth like Door of Souls, he's a demon who is also a demon hunter, trying to guide them to the next life or destroy them if they're too evil - Izuo Takeo aka Aoi: Izuo has no real meaning, I just liked the sound here again, the name Takeo as far as my research goes can mean something like "brave man", which he certanly is. And Aoi is his "code name" which he got for two reasons: His color scheme is mainly blue and black and his overall style is slightly based on Aoi from Japanese band The Gazette That's where my dolls names so far come from. XD If any Chinese person knows a meaning behind Jia's name I'd be really curious to find out about it!
Mine are kinda themed. colors or objects or other important themes. Not to go into too much detail: 1st DD3 ver 3 Candy (Hwa Young Tsubaki (Holly))-in korean “Hwa Young” is: “Eternal; beauty and prosperity. Tsubaki is Camilia flower name in Japanese. Holly was bought in S.Korea from Volks, Hwa Young english equivalent is Holly. 2nd DD3 ver 2 Yukino (Sayuri) I believe means small Lilly in Japanese. 3rd DD3-06 custom faceup (Kumiko Tsubaki) I believe means Eternally beautiful child in Japanese. Also Hollys sister from japan. 4th DD Alna custom faceup (Sumire Tsubaki) Sumire is Violet in Japanese. Holly's cousin, and same last name. 1st SDGr one off (Akemi Tsubaki) Akemi is bright and beautiful in Japanese, Sumire's little sister. 5th DD SIRIUS (Ai (Indigo) Miyazaki) or just Indy. Ai is indigo in Japanese, Miyazaki is the last name of the Famous Studio Ghibli film director Hayao Miyazaki. This is Sumire's high school classmate and good friend.
Hibiki means echo, which works nicely because he's an echo of his former self after losing his memories of the person he fell in love with, only remembering that this strong feeling was why he was cast down from heaven.
Ashi because that was the name of the girl sent out to kill jack. On her quest to find him she realizes how great of a person he is and she falls in love. I admired how strong and resourceful she was. and how against all odds she found love in the most unlikely of places. Anais because I love the character from amazing world of gumball. She's so smart for how young she is. Alicai I came up with while sitting in the health food isle waiting for a job interview Andromedia cus it sounds sexy for my big ol space queen
A couple of mine are still unamed but I'll put some name considerations in and maybe update it when I decide! Pip: called him 'Pipsqueak' as a nickname while waiting for him and when he arrived I couldn't bear to change it cuz I was used to it and it fitted him! Soren: Just found it a really beautiful name and she will be a beautiful lady when she has a body so it fits! Feeple60 Soony: Considering names that mean 'fox' because she is either a shapeshifter who turns into a fox or she is part fox. LittleRebel Kaylar: basically have written down names which fit with Soren as he is her older brother!
Dolls I currently own: Annika: I wanted a name that is used in Holland because that's where my great-grandparents were from, and I feel like this doll's personality came from the same place in me as my roots on that side. So I made a list and picked the one I liked the most (and that seemed to fit the character best). Dolls on the way: Firefly Genevieve (possibly subject to change): Fireflies are extremely important to me for personal reasons. The character of this doll came from the place in me that reminds me to hope and have faith, and that's what fireflies are to me. The Genevieve flowed after that; the syllables just sound right somehow. Planned dolls: Alyosha (Alexei): So I'm a huuuuuge fan of The Brothers Karamazov. I mean, a HUUUUUUGE fan. I recently acquired a better translation than the version I already owned, and shortly before that I found this AMAZING and super-accurate Russian mini-series of the story, so my love has been rekindled and blazes unstoppably, hahaha. I guess this character comes from the same place in me that relates to Alyosha from The Brothers Karamazov. Not terribly original, but I tend to pardon myself for direct copying of this sort when it comes to the classics. Sasha (Aleksandr): "Sasha" as a guy's name is something I named a character that I made up when I was a wee youngster, based on the character Shasta from The Horse and His Boy. When I discovered that it was actually a girl's name, I was rather sad. But then, as a teenager (through the aforementioned Brothers Karamazov), I stumbled across the wonderful world of Russian diminutives, and I've been determined to use Sasha as a boy's name ever since. My characters Sasha and Alyosha are kind of sort of but not really related, so I wanted them to both have Russian names. This seemed the perfect opportunity to use the name I had been hoarding for so long. Kateryna: Okay, so I was kind of obsessed with the computer games Myst and Riven when I was a kid. And when I say "kind of" I mean super-duper obsessed. I used to make Myst dioramas out of clay. My sister and I came up with a bunch of imaginary characters named after all of the Ages. Achenar used to be my favorite of all fictional characters (Don't ask me why. I also used to love Smeagol. I was a weird kid.), so Revelation was both hugely uplifting and hugely traumatizing to my poor young heart. This character of mine comes from the part of me that fell in love with Catherine/Katran from Riven and The Book of Atrus as a child. There's a part of Riven where somebody is talking to you about Catherine (in another language) and they seem to possibly refer to her as "Caterina". So I named this character after that.
I don't name very many of mine but the second doll I ever bought was Dinah named from the book The Red Tent by Anita Diamant when she says "Maybe you heard it in the music of my name: the first vowel high and clear, as when a mother calls her child at dusk; the second sound soft, for whispering secrets on pillows. Dee-nah."
