Your doll's taste in clothes

Sep 7, 2012

    1. My girls are all pretty, lacy, frilly and girly types when it comes to clothes. (Because I wish I could run around in that sort of clothes myself XD)
My boy likes vintage sailor clothes and such - not that frilly, but still quite romantic. :D

    2. My girl loves vintage clothes, if i could make/buy anything for her, it would be every outfit Audrey Hepburn wears in Funny Face, because as far as looks go she is the main inspiration for my doll's character, big flared skirts in brown, pink, or white are also her style.
The boy likes skinny jeans (oh i wish i could make some for him but the only pair i could make ripped when i tried to get them over his big feet...oops?)
and blue dark blue really, and black, sometimes he's a bit more feminine, but only when he's not being lazy :D

    3. Ahh mate okay

So Emma LOVES crazy frilly girly stuff. She's a tiny, and is the "youngest" of my collection, and it feels like she really ~really~ wants to play that up.

My boy is more into a rocker/grunge style, but I'm too poor to help his NEED for spikes~

The girl I've got on her way is, if she's how I imagine she will be, a super activist Wonder Woman kind of girl, who tends to dress in a boho/Tumblrgirl kind of fashion~ easy but cute!

    4. My Koko is really up for anything, but she does tend to favor outfits with short skirts and platform shoes. The thing she likes to play around with most is her hairstyle - and she loves bold, non-human hair colors.

Caitie loves frilly, cutesy dresses with matching accessories, and bonus points if there is a cute animal motif.

Damien would probably only ever wear black and red. He has fangs and pointed ears as part of his original sculpt, and he fancies himself something of a vampire.

his modern self, dresses up like every average teenagers...
he usually likes to wear logo /band shirts, jeans and accessories. he has ash-white hair,

while in his past life, he wears the several layers of traditional japanese garments/hakama complete with gear /props. he also has long gray hair.

    7. My girl is not so defined about tastes, but, since her reborn, I'm thinking on giving her a bit of vreepy cute / pastel goth stuff. Her face is so childish, i thought something pastel creepy would fir het. I'm still working on it, though!

    8. All of my dolls (current and future, except character based dolls) tend to lean towards the grunge meets goth or punk with just a dash of color. Nothing to do with the pastel goth style at all.

For example, my dolls Noel and Spencer, have their own styles because they're based off of people/characters so i try to keep their wardrobe as close as their inspiration as possible.
But Grimm and Morgue, dress more along the lines of say, Eric Draven from the Crow but with their own twists to make it more them. Like, Morgue enjoys wearing hoods and cloaks, so he often wear baggy sweater or knitted tops.

    11. My girl Lillyth's style has been as hard to figure out as her character, but she seems to be leaning toward a steampunk and/or cyberpunk style. She also seems to like lacy and sexy things too. I just need to get her a few more things and see how they work out.

I think my soon-to-arrive girl Abbi is going to be a total tomboy, only wearing dresses and "girly" things if she must. xD

    12. Kendra has a brown "old-fashioned" outfit that she REALLY wants to go steampunk with. For the most part, though, she hangs out in sweaters and leggings or jeans. She prefers comfortable clothes and hates pink (she's a ginger, so that makes sense).

    13. Celine and I are quite similar in fact of fashion. We both like dark/black clothes and bands/singers T-shirts. But she's girlier than me. She likes wearing stockings and skirts, while I hardly ever wear them. Anyway, she likes always black or white clothes, or plaid skirts.

    16. If your BJD could have any outfit in the world, what would it be?
My Johnny wants a steampunk set. He's not usually into subculture of any sort but like me, he dabbles in steampunk. Johanna (only partially shelled, but still very much a character) wants a fluffy pink lolita dress and some jeggings for the wintertime. I have the jeggings, but the lolita dress will have to wait. Ylla (also not shelled) will most likely want something with a lot of studs or spikes. I'm currently eyeing a custom-made jacket for her...

Regarding style, Johnny is a little bit of everything. He has bell-bottoms, skull-printed T-shirts, bright jackets, cozy sweaters, and a couple of yukatas for summer. I would say that if he had any single set style it would be bishounen. Johanna is a lolita-style during warm weather and a mosh-up of punk, vintage, mori, and lolita in the winter. Ylla prefers punk style, but will wear other things in a pinch. In short, my dollies have varied tastes in clothes. They want to look nice, but they aren't picky.

    17. My girl has quite feminine, but sophisticated clothing. I like her to have a very realistic, yet glamorous look so I usually dress her to suit that.

If your BJD could have any outfit in the world, what would it be?

I would love to make a doll-sized version of a haute couture dress by fashion designer Elle Saab. Something beautiful and feminine, with lots of intricate details that still shows off her beautiful sculpt.

    18. For my dolls, and my planned dolls, what they wear is often related to what they do. The mages tend to feel most comfortable in long mage robes. The thief character likes to wear black leather. The warrior needs some armor yet, but when he's not suited up for battle, he likes wearing loose fitting clothing (which is hard to find for him because he's so thick!) The girls like dresses except one who hates them and prefers wearing pants while still looking feminine.

Unfortunately as I'm still learning to sew, most of the dolls I do have aren't in the right outfits just yet, and it's only compounded by the fact that I'm still shelling characters so most of my spending money goes towards buying more dolls.

    19. All of my girls have a theme color!

Dolls that have bodies so could actually wear clothes:

Emily is 4. She wears anything well. Rainbow. (Leeke Sweet)
Alex is a tomboy. Jeans. Hoodie. Sneakers. Red. (Delf Miyu)
Cheonsa is super feminine but not frilly. She likes pastels. She prefers dresses and skirts. Grey. (Delf Angel Elf Soo)
Fujiko is a mori girl and really likes purple and grey. Light purple. (DollGa Noella)
Briallen is into pink. Just...pink. (Kid Delf Summery 2013)
Orchid is a fashionista, but I haven't found her much to wear. If she were human, all of her clothes would be designer. Dark purple and black. (Tan Minifee Liria)
Himeko thinks she's in a magical girl anime. Yellow. (Delf Ari Wink)
Kumiko is Hime's sister and prefers more demure things but I don't have her yet and her character isn't developed yet. No color yet. I can't wait to bring her home in June. (Delf Ari)

      Floating heads that have characters:

Bella is into the frilly and girly clothes that are cutesy, but not really lolita fashion. Sky blue. (Leeke Arien)
Apple just loves beautiful clothes, and prefers deep jewel tones. Deep blue. (PeaksWoods Goldie)
Sayuri likes the long shirt, skinny jeans, ballet flats look. Her color is coral. (Delf Angel Elf Soo)

I have many more heads in my floating head box that I can't wait to style! The styling is my absolute fav part of the hobby.

    20. my current main doll will literally wear anything because they just don't care. which i find sort of funny because the style i sort of wanted for them was to be heavily 90s inspired. like pop-grunge, but then a lot of the clothes i ended up actually making for them look boho or outdoors-y.

    24. Misty... Misty likes frilly, fluffy things that show off her body, although she likes some modern stuff as well. When originally imagined, she was not supposed to be so flashy, but she just loves her bright colors. She's hard to find stuff for though, so I'm having to make half or more of her clothing. And boy, does she love her clothes, now that she's gotten used to the fact that she has to wear them.

If she had a dream outfit, it might me a French Maid costume, like Yvette's in the movie Clue, or a dress worn on the red carpet once - I don't remember who was wearing it or the designer, but it looked like a prom dress, but very French. I really wish I could find a picture.

    31. My girl likes cute, pastel clothes. I coordinate everything with her white, cat eared wig and brown, bunny boots. Since, I make most of her clothes it's a lot of simple casual wear with a lot of interesting patterns and textures. I got my hands on a kimono pattern though, so we're going to try that.

Lately I've been posing her like she's dancing, in spite of not having a partner yet, but I just can't see her in fancy/elaborate dresses. She'd most likely sashay by in her overall shorts and flower print hoodie.

I just like dressing them more I guess, I'm probs gonna get a boy in the future tho
Personally, I dress kind of alternative, but nothing extreme... I like elements of goth, menhera and fairy kei in my looks, but I'm pretty nonconfident so I don't have the guts (or money lol) to go all out ^^
I like my dolls to look extreme tho! My ideal doll collection would be one of each style I like, for example one menhera, one gothic, one lolita... you get the idea 。^‿^。

My female doll tends toward youthful preppy with a hint of the naughty schoolgirl vibe, the 'other' lolita if you'll pardon me.

My guys range from polished, neat and geeky college style to sparkly jeggings, girly tees and ah... faerie grunge? ...

... To slept-in-an-alley-last-night-rocker-are-these-jeans-even-mine. As MissGaGa once put it, "He looks like he smells like cigarettes, old leather and cologne he put on a week ago." :XD:

I have a lot of casual unisex clothes at home (Jeans, plaid shirts, printed t-shirts), but I'm slowly buying cute dresses too. She's gonna go between really cute and girl, then tomboy (and everythin in between :'p )
The next doll on my wishlist is sort of a cute goth style? I'm having a bit of a harder time finding stuff in the style I want, but I have plenty of time!

    39. Hyacinth's style is the kind of thing the sweet, innocent girl would wear in a movie: Leggings, tailored feminine tops, soft hats, "pretty" things. She'll wear a black top, but temper it with a flowery belt and sparkly leggings. She rarely wears bright colours and only does so in extreme moderation. I've used a lot of lolita inspiration in her wardrobe, but I'm not partial to the full lolita effect.

Saskia is more "I don't care what I wear, but I really don't want Hyacinth raiding my closet." Graphic shirts, jeans, shorts, stuff that isn't definably any particular style but could be punk/goth/emo if she actually cared enough to make any kind of an effort. Which she doesn't.

    42. Jaellis tends to wear things that are a strange blend between the 1900s and 1950s. she's pretty modest, and mostly wears browns and white, with occasional things that are blue or red. she doesn't own many things that are too fancy since her character works on a farm, and she likes her aprons. she also really likes lace, but only on things that she knows she won't get too messy. most of her clothes are best suited for autumn or winter, since she likes thicker fabrics and layers.

Raymonde wears whatever is comfortable and practical for her. she has several pairs of pants, and wears a lot of denim and cotton. she wears sturdy clothes that she doesn't mind getting torn or dirty. she also likes wearing the socks and scarves that Jaellis knits for her.

    43. Etienne likes white, cream, and silver colors. He favors loose, flowy styles and medieval themes, and has a rather androgynous look to him. He likes pretty things, and wears lots of lace and sparkly bits.

Illya likes monochrome, neutral colors and fanciful styles. He's a bit faerie seeming, and likes things that are a bit mystical. He's also a little bit androgynous, but not to the extent of Etienne.

Chauncey likes rich colors, expensive fabrics, and fancy styles. He's a royal brat and wants the absolute best of everything. He has kind of a little lord/prince theme going, and tends to wear rather childish things.

All three of them wear almost exclusively things I've made for them, so their styles are limited by what I can get my hands on/properly make.

    44. Ooooh, fashion!!
Amara: Loves earthy colors and pastels. Her ideal outfits range more by season than by brand names. Since it’s winter right now, her ideal outfit is a gorgeous white underdress trimmed in delicate white lace(Italian preferably), ankle length brown leather boots with faux fur trim in either white or a lighter brown, with black laces and a good tread on the soles. Her stockings would be brown, thigh high and trimmed in dark green ribbon with bows. She’d have a small silver bell around the boot ankles for decorations. As for her overdress, it would be an ankle length deep brown or green satin-type of dress embroidered with vines along the hem that lets the lace peek through. The sleeves would be just a little bit puffy and end in cuffs at her wrists and finished with little green bead “buttons”. The neck of the dress would be a V neck, showing the lace that would edge the neck of her underdress, and the overdress would be trimmed with thinner vines along the neckline, along with tiny seed bead accents there like her cuffs. She’d have a thick fleece cloak in dark green or brown(opposite the dress color) that reaches her thighs, and it would be trimmed in white faux fur with a white ribbon to tie it closed. There would be a pocket on each side for mittens which she’d have on her hands, the same color to match the cloak and also trimmed in faux fur.

I haven’t decided for a type of hood/hat/toque for her head.... or just leave her hair open but have a clip or two....xD she needs hair first though lol xD

    47. Adrien is not very picky, if it keeps him warm then he'll wear it. He doesn't much care for, like... Unnecessary stuff if that makes sense? Accessories. He doesn't get them. He doesn't need a bit of metal around his wrist or in his ear, why would he put one there, and all that.

Annabelle is simple too but in a different way. She likes big fluffy sweaters and cute little skirts. If it's adorable and pink then she'll love it probably.

Willow and Avery are both goth punks. Lots of black with some accents, Avery with red and Willow with purple or white.

Heather loves short skirts! And crop tops! Especially in her team colours! Which is why she's mostly seen in her cheerleader uniform.

    49. This is a fun thread to read. Love it.

Well, considering I spent over 30 years in a career designing and making costumes for theater, you would think my dolls would be dressed in historical fashions. And considering that I also spent 5 years in the 1990s working at Mattel Toys making Barbie fashions, that my BJDs would be much more fashion forward. However . . . no so much.
All of my dolls wear what I like to call "college casual". They all look like uni students. Jeans, tees and some sort of jacket for fall weather. The only exception are my YOSD Quintus, who wears a cute panda themed outfit, and my K.I.D. Irene who wears an all pink girlie summer outfit.

I just bought a bunch of outfits for my MSDs from RabbitinthemoonThai on ETSY. I sold a doll and was able to use the money to splurge on a bunch of cute dresses.
I used to sew for my dolls, but after many chemo and radiation treatments a few years ago, it damaged the nerves in my hands. I have no feeling in my finger tips and my hands tremble. Trying to sew is a nightmare now. :...(
