Your doll's taste in clothes

Sep 7, 2012

    1. I'm just curious what fashion tastes everybody else's BJDs have. If your BJD could have any outfit in the world, what would it be? My dolls are mostly girls, rather women. For everyday wear, they'd like business casual (with a propensity towards wrap dresses and pantsuits) and peep toe pumps. If my girls could have anything they wanted, they'd wear Kate Winslet's beaded dresses from Titanic or Kate Middleton's wedding dress, all with coordinating shoes naturally. Their favorite designers would be Madeleine Vionnet (the 1930s designs), Yves Saint Laurent, and Alexander McQueen. I am curious. Am I the only one whose girls have such extravagant tastes?

    2. I don't have any particular fashion or trends going on with my dolls but there are clothes I'd love to have for them. I have characters that are snipers or soldiers who need futuristic S.W.A.T like outfits, military or uniforms from my own made up universe. Lab coats and hospital clothing would be really nice.
I would also like to see dark Carnival/Circus themed and Masquerade clothes and masks. I am also making tribute dolls from World of Warcraft and I am probably going to have to compromise there and have them wear ordinary clothes if I can't find someone to custom make them for me.

    3. Some of my dolls I've bought with the intention of dressing them one way, but when I get them, their personality takes over and they inherit a totally different fashion style. Only 3 of my dolls have a strict fashion wardrobe: two of my MSDs are a couple and dress in 1920s fashion. The other is an SD boy who dresses in Victorian/Edwardian clothes. My SD girl and my 1/6 girl don't have a set style yet.

    4. >> If your BJD could have any outfit in the world, what would it be?

Many of my dolls already have their dream outfits! Thanks to Heisejinyao, there is no shortage of exquisitely-made leatherwear, and thanks to DollHeart & Dollmore, there is always something with grommets & laceups to go with it. But, there's over 30 boys here and most of them all have different styles (and sizes), so the shopping is never truly done. Some just crave the perfect t-shirt; some like a more prissy goth style without so much leather; some have this avant-garde-hippie thing going on; two of them live naked; one of them's really into silly print underwear; it varies.

It's ME who has the idle dreams of wearing DollHeart's entire catalogue of boots. <3

    5. I have 29 dolls and their tastes vary greatly! But here are the basics without driving anybody crazy with all the details:

Amir - depending on the day, usually Bohemian, sometimes fetishwear, sometimes suits
      Loki- skater punk
Mikko- suits for work, cowboy/western for casual
Hansel - business for work, gothy metal for play
      Heath- jeans and tshirts mostly
Kaid - suits for work, jeans, tshirts and button ups for casual
      Parker- boho/preppy
      Titus- frat boy
      Axl- 80's hairband
      Olli- 80's punk
      Erik- athletic/gym wear
      Mige- gothy metal grunge
      Maddy - goth pinup
      Mike- goth
Billie- dressy punk (think Green Day)
      Gus - neon emo
      Blake - boho
      Zack- is a baby. lol
      Jayson- casual jeans andshirts
      Toshi- school uniforms and suits
      Tanner- biker
      Matt- preppy
      Kane- Juggalo or all black
Cosmos- nerdy gamer or scrubs for work
Sixx- Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga teamed up...LOL
      Atticus- Victorian/steampunk/pirate
Finn- "deckhand" according to Atticus :P
      Xerxes- Is a pet.....so...collar
Mithra - unsure, he's new! but probably a mix of rock, clubwear and leather

But even with their styles and everything, Amir REALLY wants the Soom Ender default outfit. I keep telling him it will NOT fit....he doesn't care. :P

    6. I'm simple, nothing too fancy.

For girls I love dresses and girly clothes! I also love high heels on my MSD girl.

For MSD boys, they all have different styles. Rosiel is a punk/rocker, Orien is a skater and last but not least, I love nerdy clothes and only kyoshi can pull it off!

They all wear jeans and shirts sometimes.

My CP Chiwoo is all casual, he doesn't like none of the styles above.

My Tiny, I love dressing him as a prince *.*

My Soom Faery loves leather and old jeans...no shirts...that junky!

    7. I made lab coats for my Narae and Narin dolls with our company logo on them (one of the best uses of my custom embroidery card on my sewing machine). Then, I made a PowerPoint presentation on safety using my dolls as models and cutting/pasting their pictures over pictures I'd taken of our lab.

All four of my dogs have their own custom lab coats as well. Their names and the company logo. They were involved in a different presentation.

CloakedSchemer, I love your dolls' names! Axl is my favorite.

    9. My characters are supposed to wear medieval-style clothing, but given their specific requirements, some have gotten stuck with more modern (or fantastical, in Verity's case) equivalents. Sylisha wouldn't mind some modern evening gowns, but that would definitely look out of place...

    12. I have a beautiful dream about making all my favorite McQueen dresses into clothes for my dolls. Alas, I can barely sew and commissioning someone would cause my great grandchildren to be indebted.

I would also LOVE if they could have Marchesa, Zuhair Murad, and Ellie Saab gowns. My favorite titanic dress is actually the green one. OH! And if I could get Eliza Doolittles racing gown, with the hat *sighs*

So, two of my girls SHOULD be wearing pretty fashionable stuff, but trying to find the right stuff is like pulling teeth. The other one is more loosely fantasy based, so so are her clothes.

    14. My doll's don't have their "own taste" in clothes. :-p They are all female so I mostly go crazy on the clothing side of this hobby. It is mostly me forcing them into clothes (that may or may not even suit the doll) that I have seen, liked & bought. My doll clothing(s) are mostly quite lacy with lots of pintucks (either vintage or country style) while perhaps 30% of them are casual. I found out the other day I have about 6 school uniforms which I've never even used on them yet. @_@;; I have few sets here and there that are quite sweet & modern too. I even have black gothic lace dresses as well. Anyway, I like almost every style that is well-made LOL... and perhaps very girly girl? XD;;

    15. Vince is a clothes horse-- or would be, if I spent more time and money on his wardrobe! He'll wear anything as long as it looks good, but right now he mostly goes between his 'play clothes' (a pair of shorts my sister made him and an Avengers t-shirt) and 'dress clothes' (his sequin pink leopard tee and black satin capri pants)...

Pete and Vince both look good in pink, I think... Pete's been hanging out in his pink jammies, but if he could wear anything, it would be... very eighties, I think.

And Billy would probably like to have some nice, grown-up looking clothes, but he's been wearing a dragon/dino costume for almost a year now because it's too cute to take off (and before that, he was dressed as Cupid). Ah, the perils of being a tiny... cute and at my mercy.

    16. Michael, Tyler and Paul all prefer jeans and t-shirts. My boys are pretty casual.

Hunter is a fashionista, and she likes to look good all the time. Hunter would never be caught in PJ pants and a tank top, for instance.

Rommie likes to dress simply. She likes dresses that aren't too fancy, and most of her clothes are very practical.

Sini likes anything brightly coloured, rainbow-y and sparkly. She has an odd sense of "style" and generally wears anything she thinks is pretty or fun. She's not particularly concerned about fashion.

Jack and Cleo like "twins" outfits; things that match each other.

    17. Mine have very set ways of dressing. Kari dressed quite geeky when she was single, not she dresses a little more fashionable. She normally will stick to one color when wearing and outfit. She wears dresses and skits.

Kit is the opposite, she where's all different colours, she'd never be seen dead in just one. She dresses quite boyish. I think she's woren a dress once in the 5 years I've had her and she wasn't happy about it. She's mostly hoodies and jeans.

Merry works in a museum so she can't dress really wacky. She loves alternative music but she can't really wear crazy things or converse in her work as she has to be taken seriously and make a good impression. So anything smart and stylish. Trousers skirts, shirts.

Griffin drives me nuts because he is so good looking but really doesn't care. He wears ripped clothing and drab colours, army stuff, greens and browns. I'd love to dress him up in really lovely fashionable things but it's just not who he is and I couldn't change him for the world. If it's brown, torn or frayed he'll wear it.

Lorrie is the most fun because she's really fashionable, she's in a rock band so they clothing she wears is really cool and quite 'hip' for the 'scene' she's in. I love changing her clothes, she has the most accessories too. Skinny jeans, scarves, beanies.

Pashley is hard to dress because he's so large, companies don't really make the kind of clothing in his size but I've done pretty well so far. He's the opposite of Griffin, he does care about his appearance and likes to look good. I'd say he's quite into fashion and having nice new looking clothes.
Jeans hoodies polo shirts, check shirts.

They are all totally different, maybe borrow a few items here and there from each other but mostly they all have their own wardrobes.

    18. Well Kyra my Luts Delf CP Miyu has fairly eclectic taste in dress. She likes to pair frilly pieces with band shirts. She's Mori girl meets oldschool punk rock. She wears a lot of leather boots, striped socks, fishnets. She likes kitschy buttons, and macabre but dainty accessories and embellishments on her clothes. Of all my dolls she has the most established sense of style and is the hardest to find clothes for because of her very unique look.

My boy is casual rocker all the way and as for my msd girl, I haven't really settled her character yet so I'm having a hard time figuring out her style.

    19. All of my dolls are from a high fantasy setting, so their clothes has to fit accordingly

Lucy - Her favourite kind of clothing is no clothing at all, but when she has to wear clothes she prefers loose dresses in colours like green and blue that accentuates her natural beauty

Zehelico - He prefers the dark colours commonly used by his race, his clothes tends to be pretty simple, he often walks around shirtless

Dayreth - He prefers green or blue elven styled clothing

Corellon - Yeah...he's gonna be a problem when he arrives, he's based on the god of beauty in the Dungeons and Dragons game, so he'll want rather extravagant clothes, I bought him some silks, so I guess I'll just see what I can do with it.

    21. Noah, my boy, prefers jeans and t-shirts. Things that are simple are his favorite. He's kind of artsy, so he wears lots of hoodies and turtlenecks. His favorite colors are black and white... he doesn't really wear anything else. And Converse. Noah would kill me if anything ever happened to his Cons.

Shiloh, my girl, is on the complete opposite end. While her favorite colors are red and black, she'll wear anything as long as it's punky and kind of wild. She's also a bit of a minx, so if it's short and sexy, or just sexy, she'll wear it. XD And she hates flat shoes! (Like, won't even stand in them. I know she's an inanimate object, but I can't get her to stand unless she's got boots or platforms on! O_O)

    22. Honestly, your response could have been mine so close was it. I love the Ascot races dress. I was super excited when the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty book came out. I wish there were nice books on Zuhair Murad and Marchesa designs. I have all those Metropolitan Museum of Art books. I actually do design for my dolls. I just have so many designs I love.

It's too bad I can't do BJD clothes as a job. I think that's about the only way I could make my dolls all the clothes I want for my girls.

    23. Well lets do the list type thing shall we?

f Piala the Succubus: Anything that makes her look sexy, really. A lot of low cut shirts, sliced skirts and generally tight fitting clothes. But she doesn't want to look slutty either, so it's more high-fashion, businesswoman looks she goes for. And she does like leather as well, boots and jackets mainly. Preferred footwear: Painfully high heels.

m Danny the magical musician (this sounds so cheesy): Well he's a rock star, so he likes anything that draws attention to him. At least when he's going out to party or when he's on stage. When he's just relaxing and having a day off he dressed in just normal trousers, often jeans, and T-shirts. For outwear he likes fashionable tight jackets with belts and suit-like collars. Preferred footwear: All Stars boots.

f Minty: Simple and sweet. She likes to wear a lot of white and green/blue. Usually wears dresses, not too low cut but not too frilly-cutesy either. A classy princess style really, but with modern elements. Preferred footwear: Simple shoes that match her outfit.

m Vanilla Strawberry: Button-up shirts and shorts, in white, pink, black and red colours. He likes the 1950's (roughly) paperboy look. Preferred footwear: Black shoes or boots, but dear god not feminine ones!

f Lady Liqourice: Cute and frilly! Grey, black and white colours. She likes ribbons and blondes and tiered skirts. She's living in a world of cute child princess fashion. Preferred footwear: Mary janes or similar styled shoes.

I have two more boys, but I haven't figured out their fashion styles yet.

    24. Paige with her jet black bangs/fringe and red lipstick likes to wear a mixture of pin-up, rockabilly, and burlesque inspired clothing. Red is her favorite color.

Claire likes to wear dressy clothes but, as the mother of two young children, is usually wearing more casual classic styles. She prefers to wear cool colors that go with the teal ans blue streaks in her hair.

Max (Maxine) is a teen who likes to wear hoodies, leggings, and ruffled skirts in "girly" colors.

Shane wears skinny jeans and t-shirts. Sometimes he wears boots but usually sneakers.

Jason wears button shirts, loose jeans, and boots.

    25. My Chinese vampire girl Mei Ling wears the DZ Morphoa fullset outfit, which is a very harlequin-lolita thing in pinks and purples (she's a Morphoa fullset anyways but I changed her wig and eyes). While it is her outfit, I think it is one of her exceptions to her normal style... she'll wear it, but would in other circumstances wear more traditional Chinese dresses.

Yage is my space alien who has spent a lot of time on a low-tech world that is mostly sand, so he wears a lot of simple garments in light colors. He has the option to wear other things now but seems to be sticking with that for the moment.

Asura wears frilly gentlemanly things or his "lord of the underworld" armored outfit with flowing cape. He feels most comfortable in fine clothing, but if he has to he will dress down as well. He's worn a hoodie and jeans or the like in his backstory when he had to go incognito for a bit.

I have so many dolls and their fashion tastes range all over, it's fun to shop for them. ^_^ I let them "tell" me what they want, and quite a while ago while I was poking around Dollmore for a second outfit for Aiden, he asked if he could wear a black and purple lacy gothic lolita skirt because it was so pretty, and he was thrilled to death that I said, "of course!" xD

    26. Peppermint (tiny god): "Fancy" is his thing. He particularly likes puffy pumpkin shorts or bloomers for his normal self, and also pointy-toed shoes. He also likes print fabrics, especially spirals or polka-dots. His one indispensable accessory is his sleeping hood/scarf/bowtie, which pretty much has to go over every one of his outfits. If he needs to dress more like a "hoomins", he oddly likes skinny, skinny jeans, suspenders, and thin pointy-toed runners. His formal "God Regent" clothes are a mixture of Ancient Greek and Medieval.

Barbara: I thought she'd be a girly-girl, but she's turning out to have a much more masculine taste than I'd thought. She particularly likes the types of clothes that are masculine fashions tailored for the female form. It's pants-only for her. The only time she wears "girly" clothes is when she purposely needs to throw someone off her tracks.
Her more "business" side of things is anything made with high-quality leather (it can withstand a lot of wear, and is very warm) and kevlar. And her absolutely favouritest prized DC-Converse collaboration Black Canary converses. Those babies go everywhere she goes.

    38. If my dolls want something in particular, they expect me to make it for them. XD

Megumi wears either kimono/yukata or brocade jackets and designer jeans. She doesn't usually wear short skirts or dresses.

Belle Fontaine wears long skirts with corsets and silk blouses.

Ashe wears ripped jeans, leather jackets and almost transparent tank tops.

Miyae prefers plain clothing--jumpers and jeans--but at the moment she's wearing a military-cut jacket and jeans because she looks good in it.

Johnny is the most "mundane" of the bunch, and wears pretty normal guy's clothes--slacks, shirts, blazers, and the like. I don't think he owns anything outre at the moment. Christmas may change this.

Chaeri is the clothes junkie of the bunch. Her tastes vary widely depending on her (and my) mood. She has a lot of lolita-style clothing, but she's also comfortable in T-shirts and cut-off shorts. She also loves to cosplay. She has several hanbok, too.

    41. [IMG]

Josette (Ha Yarn Cho): Flawless style. I have literally started copying her looks. She wears tall riding boots with skinny trousers, vintage doll coats and blouses, with antique brooches. Her color scheme is yellow, ivory and brown.

Glynni (Serendipity Sharmin): Pre-Raphaelite-inspired style. She wears white or ivory shifts, the costumes Josette sews, and graceful medieval gowns.

Annelise (Dream of Doll Twing-key): I haven't finished styling her wig yet for photos, but she is a Rainbow Child, and she wears vintage doll clothes altered for her. Her style is based on Megan James of Purity Ring.

    42. My Melfina is an Angel of Dream (AOD) Female 1/4 Meng Ya Qi (Opened Eyed Head). I named her after a character in the Anime "Outlaw Star". I plan on making all of my future BJD's different members of the crew "Outlaw Star". I plan on having at least two girls, and three boys. I currently have one girl. I want them to cosplay together in a group. It may be a little weird but that's why I like BJD's. I also want them to be similar body types so they can share clothes and accessories. They are my little cos-players!

    43. Cesavier is generally quite laid back in his attire. He frequently goes without shoes and likes to lounge around in his socks or bare feet. His average day to day outfit is typically made up of jeans and a monotone t shirt or tank top. He does have some formal wear which he can be sometimes persuaded into wearing though, and a big red reindeer jumper that he lives in leading up to Christmas or on colder days. When I can coax him into wearing shoes it's usually big stompy boots, he doesn't like wearing other types of footwear. He wears his leather jacket or long trench coat a lot because I don't like him looking cold (I wish that guy wasn't so kicky when I try to put shoes on him!). Generally he prefers things which are simple and comfy, and he likes baggy things the best (like his SD sized baseball shirt) although I sometimes force him into better fitting things because I admire his body sculpt. Cesavier looks at home in anything loose, cuddly, mildly gothic and casual.

Seraphine - my word, you've never seen such opposites before. She absolutley refuses to wear pants and physically kicks her legs and falls out of my hands (I dress them on the bed though, so it's always a safe landing). She'll wear Ces' big comfy clothes at bed time or on a casual day but even then she'll pair one of his tops with a skirt. She looks the happiest in elaborate, feminine dresses, and pink is her favorite. Whilst she does own a few 'casual' skirts and tops and a jumper she demands to be in her 'posh' adornments most of the time. She loves and will wear literally any type of shoes that fit her, even a pair of canvas sneakers that Cesavier out right rejected when they got here. She has a pink leather jackect that matches Ces' black one and they often wear them on the same day.

I'd say more of my own personal preference goes into buying Ces' clothes than Seraphines. Ces is pretty happy with anything as long as it's comfortable and not too over the top, whereas the more Seraphine's character has developed the less I go with my own personal preferences when buying things for her. I'd wear a lot of things that Ces wears but I could never wear as much pink or dresses as Seraphine does. It's come to the point however where I know it'd just look ludicrous forcing her into pants or ever trying to make her a tomboy. The look suits her, and I guess it lets me explore things which I wouldn't normally think about too.

    45. My boy loves a rugged pair of skinny jeans, slouch beanies and anything that is fairly inexpensive. Lots of t-shirts, vests, and things covered with studs (that he applies himself).
The little lady loves frilly dresses, kimonos, and anything that makes her feel super girly.

    46. My son usually goes for casual clothing, or something you would see from Nine9Style. He is kinda diverting to the Kpop/Jrock kind of fashion though.

My daughter has no specific style preference, but has yet to wear pants. She likes wearing gyaru or girly kind of colors. She's the most flexible of my kids

    50. Shirou -- when he's out of uniform he prefers more casual clothing or the occasional formal Japanese outfit.
Katen -- entirely Asian-inspired fantasy; his wardrobe has elements of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean but with a decidedly fantastical bent and a definite flashy edge. He tends toward the showy, and almost all of his wardrobe involves red in some way, shape, or form.
Kiyo and Lian actually share clothes a lot, although where Kiyo is as casual as they come, Lian has a more skater punk edge to him. It's all in how you put stuff together. Lian has been known to wear mori clothes too, though.
Grey -- prefers the more high-fantasy 'elf' look, and always wears grey, mint green, or some combination thereof.
Cecil -- When not wearing his armor he prefers simpler lines, although he goes for a lot of accessories -- and capes. Loves capes.
Jake -- Simple and practical is the name of the game. Also shorts. I don't think he owns a pair of long pants. Some of his shorts are VERY short.

    51. My female dolls love anything from late 1800's through 1940's for themewear. Unfortunately, not to many people sew these with enough detail for me. AND it takes me too long to create what I want. Most of my BJDs are Iplehouse so I watch for availability on their theme outftts. I adore the Elemental Guardain outfits and the Noctarcana Circus items. Bravo IH. I have been lucky to get some of tehm on the secondary market

    57. Would nudity count? It might affect them [and me] more if they are artistically and realistically body blushed. I know a lot of people want to give "the poor doll" some clothes. Maybe my name says something about this, the garden of Eden? The fig leaves and concern about nudity came AFTER the fall. I do have dreams though, of making my own designs of clothing and I expect my dolls will love them. Comfort and relaxed style will most likely be key to those clothes. Like Mori style, and perhaps a style not yet named or existing as a category of "taste"...

    59. Let's see, I'll do this for the Minifee gang since there are three of them.

Aithne wears creative, unusual or handmade looking clothes. I think she only shops on Etsy from artisans, or refashions her own stuff. Everything she has is a little bit whimsical, a little romantic, or downright flirty. No bows, no loli, but she'll wear almost anything else from glam goth to bohemian. She's a clothes horse.

Hands wears whatever he got at the thrift store ten years ago and hasn't fallen apart yet. Tank tops, button down shirts, raggedy tough jeans and he's been after me to make him a trench-coat in brown. He's a magical 'homeless' supernatural border patrol agent, so his clothes get ripped up or ruined a lot. He dressed for utility.

Scythe the dragon stuck as a human keeps insisting on wearing mostly black. His style is basic, clean lines and no frills whatsoever. Black turtleneck, black slacks, black shoes. Looks a bit like a beatnik or an art gallery worker, but actually is a barista. His friend Lan keeps talking him into modeling her fashion creations, so he sullenly ends up in things like wine red silk shirts and asian street fashion couture, but he doesn't want to wear it around town.

    60. My girl's style is sort of... vintage ragdoll. Eclectic, creative, and whimsical, full of odd prints/color combinations/layers. Modern but very retro-inspired, feminine and girly but not overly frilly or overtly sexy. I have an entire wardrobe designed for her that I'm slowly stitching together.
