Gladys: “Okay, okay, look. Here’s his schedule. Notice anything?”

Uriah: “...”





Uriah: “... He’s a f****** workaholic.”

Gladys: “No! Well, yes, but your birthday, you absolute block of wood, he’s leaving on your birthday for the whole weekend.”





Gladys: “This is too good an opportunity. We could do so many things. The amusement park, ice skating, the zoo–”

Uriah: *phht*





Gladys: “Come on, Uri, it’s your day, for goodness’ sake. Can’t you get a little excited?”

Uriah: “I’m old. Ain’t that big a deal.”





Gladys: “How about this? There’s a couples’ program at this spa resort for Valentine’s Day. Massage, mineral baths, that thing with hot rocks, acupuncture if that’s what you’re into… we’ll even get some poor soul to take a hacksaw to your toenails.”





Gladys: “And then for your gift, I was thinking–you were looking at amp heads, right? Here–which one is it? Just show me and I’ll buy it.”

Uriah: “Mm-mm.”





Gladys: “Don’t start with the pride again. It’s just money. Mr. Perle makes more every day.”

Uriah: “... eh…”

 

Gladys: “He paid all your medical bills. He spotted you for tuition after you were off work for so long. And he sent you to that posh rehab with the horses. No shame in it--he’s a generous guy.”





Uriah: “If he only knew how generous.”

Gladys: “... Sharing is caring.”





Gladys: “So come on. Pretend you give a crap for five seconds, choose a damn expensive whatever, and let me feel like a good person, will you?”

Uriah: “You’re all the gift I can handle.”

Gladys: “Well this gift wants to keep on givin–”





Gladys: “Ooh–now there’s an idea.”

Uriah: “...?”

Gladys: “Something we could both enjoy…”





Uriah: “Hell, that’s more like it.”

Gladys: “It’s just so simple, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner.”





Gladys: “I hope it’s not too late to get the booking in. I’ve always wanted to go hang gliding.”

Uriah: “...”





Uriah: “Forget that s***. Birthday boy knows what he wants.”

Gladys: *sigh* “... Of course he does, because he’s lazy and uncreative.”

Uriah: “Don’t mess with the classics.”





Gladys: “Yeah, well, birthday boy’s also getting a pedicure whether he likes it or not. Not a gift so much as an intervention.”

Uriah: “But you’ll do it, right? Do a little tease... rub my feet …”

Gladys: *phht* “You wish.”
