I think I'd personally rather have a perfect face sculpt with a so-so faceup, because faceups can always be redone to something better.
Would you rather have perfectly sized jewelry and accessories for your dolls, or perfectly sized props for your dolls? (Props can be furniture, everyday items or even realistic foods?)

 

Oh my goodness. I was just having this debate earlier too if I wanted to specialize in really nice jewelry or spend the same amount of money on furniture....uhhh......I'd have to go with furniture. Furniture is harder to come by that's just right and really sets the mood for photography.

Would you rather spend all your budget (forever) on the one ultimate doll that would satisfy all your wishlist in a single doll..somehow. Or spend the rest of your life collecting okay dolls but never getting that one perfect doll?

 

If by ultimate doll you mean.. doll that needs no stringing/maintenance... then I'd rather spend all my budget on one of those.
BUT because we're still speaking of a doll here, then I'd rather collect dolls for the rest of my life, because that way at least I expand my creativity and impersonate all of my OC's in them

Would you rather have a cheap camera that takes the PERFECT lighting anywhere at anytime but poor image quality OR having a professional and expensive camera that has terrible lighting captures (horrendous) but good image quality?

 

A professional and expensive camera that has terrible lighting captures (horrendous) but good image quality, for sure. You can photoshop it but if the overall pixel count is low, there are less tones to work with.

Would you rather only be able to get male BJDs for the rest of your life or female BJDs for the rest of your life?

 

Male. I do want a girl or two eventually, but right now all I have are boys, and I could survive that way =P

Would you rather only be able to dress your dolls in traditional Japanese clothing, or only in modern syles?

 

Modern styles, as much as I love traditional Japanese clothing I feel like I have more freedom with modern. Also, I could get a modern version of a traditional outfit.

Would you rather have a male doll who will never wear pants (and instead wears dresses, skirts, etc.) or a female doll who will never wear skirts/dresses (and instead wears pants, shorts, etc.)?

 

Female doll that can't wear skirts/dresses. I only have one female doll planned, and while I would like her to have a few dresses, she is a bit of a tomboy.

Only white/normal resin dolls or only tan/fantasy resin dolls?

 

Tan/Fantasy colored dolls any day! I love painting fantasy faceups.

Would you rather have all Fandom dolls/characters (meaning, dolls based off of other people's work) or one doll designed by your mother?

 

Oh Jeez. Umm...This ones tough.
My mother is a crafty person, and I personally love everything she knits/crochets me. But as for doll designing? ... I don't know! All the same, it's my mom and I'm super sentimental, so I suppose I'd have to pick that. It would have much more meaning than a fandom doll.


Would you rather Have one 'holy grail' doll, or a bunch of easily obtained dolls?

 

One grail. I don't need a large collection.

Damaged faceup or damaged outfit?

 

Damaged face up. There are so many talented face up artists! Doll clothes are ridiculously expensive but you really get what you pay for with a face up.

Would you rather keep the default face up on a rare/discontinued/limited doll or get a new, vibrant face up that suits your idea of perfect?

 

I'd rather get a new vibrant one that suits my idea of perfect. Knowing my luck the original faceup would probably chip or something so I'd just prefer to enjoy each faceup as much as I can while I can

Would you rather have a doll that doesn't come with anything (faceup, eyes, etc) so that you can fully mod and customize them or a full set doll of your dreams?

 

Oh my that is a tough one.
There is actually really only one full set doll i'd purchase if she was still available.
But in general i'd rather have a blank doll,
Because i love customizing them by myself
E.g. Sewing an outfit, crafting accessories and other stuff.

Would you rather Wait several months for your dream doll? Or only few weeks for a different one?

 

Months. I'd make it. Hopefully.

Both, haha but really I'd love to have the perfect lighting setup for my Pub photos.

I wanna say the perfect wig, because it's more visible.

Would you rather have the perfect poser that looks like crap naked, or the perfect looking body that can't pose very well?

 

Hmm.. I think since there are quite a few helpers for posing e.g. stands,
i would chose the perfect looking body~

My favourite doll is out where I can see him every day. I'd rather enjoy my dolls. Resin yellows no matter what you do, so I'd rather risk having them out where I can play with them and see them regularly.

Would you rather have a horde of little dolls or just a few large ones?

 

Just a few larger ones. Those tinies seem to multiply when one isn't looking. XD


Would you rather spend several days on a faceup that you end up hating? Or spend the same amount of time creating an outfit that you later find out doesn't fit?

 

I'd rather spend that time on an outfit that doesn't fit. I'm not very good with sewing yet so I've done this several times already but each time I've learned from it and improved. My doll currently has a faceup that I like so I'd hate to ruin it. Clothes seem way less permanent to me and I might be able to correct the fit somehow with the clothes instead of starting over completely like I'd have to do with the faceup.

Would you rather make the perfect wig and eyes for your doll or make the perfect outfit?

 

Wig and eyes! I'm fine with someone going naked for a while as long as I can still take portraits. They're my favorite.

Would you rather get a blank doll with awesome fantasy parts (that you then paint/clothe/etc. on your own), or a fullset that's just a normal human?

 

Human fullset. Fantasy dolls aren't my thing, though I would probably sell off most of the stuff and make them blank anyway.

Would you rather have amazing, in-scale props, or a beautiful, realistic backdrop?

 

A beautiful, realistic backdrop. I'm a minimalist when it comes to prop collection since I don't have the room or the money for many!

Would you rather sell your favorite doll that you own in order to get the dream doll you don't have, or sell your entire collection to get two of your dream dolls that you don't currently have (assuming availability was not an issue)?

 

The first, though I'd rather not sell any, even for a dream doll.

Have all your dolls' faceups vanish, or each of their best outfits?

 

Each of their best outfits. I'd be sad, but I could always make more. Actually, it'd probably inspire me to up my game.

Would you rather lose all of your dolls' shoes but one pair, or all of your dolls' eyes but one pair?

 

The eyes probably. One ideal pair of eyes is enough, but shoes? It's nice to have more to choose from to complete every outfit.

Would you rather break off your doll's ear or fingers?

 

Yikes! Those are both pretty bad! I'd have to say fingers, since I've done that once and managed to repair it.

Would you rather have the perfect wig but eyes that are so-so or vice versa?

 

I'd go for the perfect wig and so-so eyes - I'm a big fan of expressing myself through my hair so I like my dolls to do the same haha ^u^

Furnished but minimalist diorama, as I'd be happy to have a furnished diorama to display my crew until I could get more creative with it when I have the time to do so.

Would you rather get a doll that comes with a fullset and faceup/body blushing, or a blank doll and commission/diy clothes/faceup/body blushing separately?

 

I've done both, but I like having control over the doll's look best. Blank doll and commission/DIY it is.

Would you rather have the One True Formula which makes dolls UV proof but makes dolls one skintone only and faceup/blushing/dye resistant, or UV sensitive and customizable?

 

Customizable. Having all my dolls only be one color? Nah.

body, I bond with the heads way more than the bodies.

Rather the one I would really love than many. Because I tend to be quite attached to things I own and rarely buy something what I like just half-heartedly.

Would you rather have the most perfect doll for you (sculpt, faceup, hair, etc.), but have it be your only one. OR would you rather have all the dolls on your wishlist, but be unable to complete them.

 

All dolls, but incomplete. Feels like I'll never complete them right now as it is, the one difference is that I would finally have everyone I want home :P.

I'd rather have it in my least favorite size, because I buy all my dolls as blank white clean slates so I can create their individual skin tone myself.

The rarest I guess (but given the fact that I only have one doll on my wishlist now, I could as well say the most expensive )

Only my most favorite, I couldn't handle the frustration of having everyone together but being unable to realistically pose them with each other.

All NB. They are all pretty androgynous anyway.

Wigs. I make clothes, and most of them have perfect eyes, but there are several who could use a different wig.

On the one hand, waiting for a year almost makes certain I'll forget and then be pleasantly surprised by the dolls arrival - on the other hand, I have a bad habit of wanting things right here right now! Would you rather only do photoshoots in beautiful public locations around strangers, or only do photoshoots at home using household items as backdrops?

 

I would rather do photoshoots around strangers in beautiful places! Natural light is the best and if you don't have dioramas or space at home, it can get quite boring.

Would you rather invest in craft materials and learn how to do your own clothes or accessories (with the chance of wasting a lot of time and materials in the learning process) or buy from someone else with the same amount of money?

 

I would love to say that I would craft everything. But after all this time of saying that, well, buying is so much easier.

Would you rather a dollmaker come out with the perfect body you've been looking for, or perfect head sculpt you just can't find?

 

Right now I'd take the body. Got quite lucky even when looking for atypical sculpts, but still cannot find a body that would be just right.

That is a tough question, there are so many beautiful dolls...but I think own many and just casually love them.

 

Time is money...but you can't make more time like you can make more money. So, I'd rather have more time.

Faceups. I can redo them. Again.

I'd say a doll. I've spent a lot of time making and finding things for them, and I have a doll I'm not that attached to.

Eyes, I guess - I'd rather throw away more money to get new beautiful eyes than time to style the wigs again.

I would rather give up cosplay over my doll collecting because I would be just fine never having to make a costume ever again LOL. If it was video games though, I would definitely give up doll collecting.

I'd rather have a doll I couldn't pose. I can put in her in a high backed wheelchair with a headrest and build a backstory around her posing issues.

My guys could go naked. With all the details I plan for them, at least they could showcase those and their nicely sculpted bodies.

Wait a year, for sure. I'm not goin' anywhere, you know? I waited 9 months for my twins and I survived, haha.

Fantasy creature in a natural tone - at least body blushing can change the colour, and fantasy colours can be so difficult to deal with!

One wig, as long as it is just right for their character. I want to keep my options open for shoes, as the perfect ones are so hard to find.

Would you rather never repeat a company, or buy only from three?

 

Never repeating a company could be very interesting- and motivation to support independent artists!

Would you rather; buy dolls online but with only one stock picture to judge from (no owners pictures), or only buy dolls from physical stores (even if it means flying to another country) ?

 

As I already bought a head that had only stock pictures (and it ended up great), I wouldn't mind repeating that process. Also - I don't really have money for travelling (read as: I have anxiety, so new situations, new places and new people are trully hard for me to deal with. And travelling is all of these things, so...)
