Depends on which doll it's for. For Jess, she gets spoiled with lots of options. All my others kinda stick to one custom made outfit. Would you rather make all your own wigs or all your own hands?
I'd much prefer to make my own wigs! I'm all right with fiber arts, but clumsy with small molding and sculpture. Would you rather be stuck with only female sculpts forever, or only male?
I'd say only males, because most of the characters I have are males. I'd sorely miss my dream for an army of tiny girls though... Would you rather have a year where you could only buy blank dolls or a year where you could only buy outfits/accessories?
Outfits and accessories! I've got blank dolls staring at me now and I think they would not have anything good to say to me if I don't start giving them some attention before buying more. I love blank dolls but I've hit a point where I'm feeling that many of my blank ones have been blank 'too long'. Good question! Would you rather lavish attention on a single blank doll from start to finish or undertake two at a time knowing that it will probably take longer to complete them overall but having the option to work on their different stages for variety?
One doll, all the way through. As it is, I've got a clothing designer on hold waiting for my say so to start making the outfit we've already decided on for a doll that is currently in shipping to me. Once she arrives, I give a green light on the clothes, etc. I've been very obsessed with getting her completed. Would you rather have only one pair of shoes or only one pair of pants?
I rather have one pair of shoes, especially if it can be a simple/versatile style of shoes. Would you rather never have to worry about yellowing or never have to worry about cracking?
Okay, I know I shouldn't reply again so soon, but... CRACKING! If I didn't have to worry about cracks or scratches or anything like that, I wouldn't be so terrified every time I restringing a doll. I would waaay rather deal with yellowing and have an indestructible doll! So... uh... next person... no cracking or no yellowing? XD
I would have to say no cracking. Would you rather design your dream doll from your favorite company but have to wait 3 years for it to be finished and delivered, or have some one give you a dream doll that already exists but it is a recast and you only have to wait 3 days.
Obviously the three year wait. All of those would make the three years more than worth it! Would you rather a collaboration between two doll companies to make a whole new sculpt or a doll company and a fashion company to make a recycled sculpt but with, say, a lolita or mori inspired fullset?
I make my own clothing so I would love to see a whole new interesting sculpt. Would you rather have a mammal anthro BJD or a reptile anthro BJD?
I would rather have a Mammal anthro BJD. Would you rather have one doll that is your dream doll and never have another doll again, or have a lot of dolls that are just ok but never get your dream doll?
Well, I don't really have a dream doll, so I'd have to say lots of dolls! Would you rather buy an expensive doll with a short wait time, or a cheaper doll (of the same quality) with a long wait time?
Expensive/short. I've done both and when the wait is months, I get to worrying that something will go wrong...even if it's a perfectly normal order from a known slow company. Would you rather have a beautiful doll that you could almost never find things to fit (or is difficult to sew/make for) or a doll that was not quite as beautiful and was more common in their measurements and able to wear a more standard size? I think dolls like Popovy Sisters and even Doll Chateau Christina might be hard to clothe and especially get shoes for. I'm not sure if I would hesitate just because a doll was hard to fit.
I already have a really beautiful doll that I can't seem to find anything to fit her and her company is famous for not having anything fit them ^.^ Limhwa 57cm body (half-elf) and to be hone1st I wouldn't change a thing. would you rather make everything for your resin babies (face-up, clothes props etc) or spend 1,000+ on one item?
I would rather make everything, this is what got me into the hobby (even if I buy things from companies or artisans). Would you rather have only female dolls or only male dolls?
I would rather have one female doll than several male dolls. I love dresses and the frilly things you can put them in! Would you rather have one broken doll that you have to repair or one really expensive doll in mint conditon that takes forever to arrive?
Hmm... I guess it would depend on the doll and circumstances. But probably the mint condition one, because I don't mind wait times. Would you rather have a doll based on an original character or based on a character from a show/movie/book/etc.?
I have both but I think an original character is easier to deal with since you have control of all aspects of that personality. Would you rather have a chibi version of your OC or a fully fleshed out version?
As dolls? Full version. Although nendoroids of the chibi versions would be awesome, too. Would you rather never be able to take/share pictures of your dolls, or have to draw(or pay someone to draw) the pictures of your dolls?
I'd rather draw my dolls. I already sketch fashion designs, so I could handle BJD portraits with a little practice. Would you rather have lots of dolls, each with one costume, or one doll with lots of clothing and accessories?
One doll with lots of stuff! I think that'd be more fun. (I actually have a couple sculpts/characters I want specifically to put in anything...) Would you rather have a doll with a permanent smile or permanent frown?
Permanent frown. I prefer more serious looks. You come across a sculpt you like but the head and body are sold by different people. Would you rather go for the head or body?
Head, I prefer to have a head and get the body later. Would you rather have several pet dolls or one human doll?
Depends. How adorable are the pet dolls? If we're talking non limited editions of either of them, it depends on how cute the pet dolls are and how pretty the human doll is too. If one or the other is limited edition, I have to go with that one because I might not get another chance. Although if the human doll is non limited, and the pet dolls add up to the same price, I would probably go with the pet dolls. Would you rather have a normal doll but without eyes, or a doll without legs but has a snazzy wheelchair?
Ooooh! Wheelchair doll!! That just sounds like it would be very different, especially if that wheelchair could be pimped out with LED lights that say stuff. If your dolls came to life.... Would you rather have a psychic link to non-moving dolls or would you rather they be able to move on their own to write things to you?
Um...probably have them moving, honestly. It'd be kind of creepy (especially considering Ilya is kind of creepy no matter what), but I think I'd be able to see the aliveness than just hear them in my head. Would you rather have a sort of stylized creepycute doll or a super realistic beautiful/handsome doll? (And why?)
this is pretty hard! I think I would go with creepy cute because I guess I somewhat like that aesthetic (not so much the clothing style per say, but like dark circles, blood, and mild gore on the doll itself paired with cute clothing!) , but I'm not a huge fan of super realistic sculpts. would you rather have to wait a few years to get a dream doll (anything at all, even dolls that don't exist) and not be able to buy any bjd related things during that time, or be able to buy more dolls/clothing/etc. in the meantime but never get that perfect doll?
That's tough, but I think I'd rather wait! I feel like I'd ultimately be happier if I was able to be patient and get a doll that really speaks to me, that I could love wholeheartedly, instead of dolls where I'd think "man, I do love you, but you're just not ____...!!" Would you rather base a doll's personality around a pre-existing character (from a book or a movie, or off a real person), or would you rather come up with their character yourself, from scratch?
I like to do both, really, but I prefer to build the character around the sculpt. Like I look at her and wonder what she looks like she's experienced and what she wants to do and where she came from. I do want to shell my fav characters, though! I'd really love to shell John and Sherlock (BBC Sherlock is my thing). Would you rather buy a new doll from the company and wait three months or whatnot, or buy a used one for more than the amount of a new one just to get it immediately?
If there's one thing this hobby has taught me, it's patience! I'll wait for the three months and use the extra money to buy clothing and/or accessories. Would you rather have the gorgeous company faceup that drew your attention to your incoming doll in the first place, or buy it blank for a one one of a kind, made to specification faceup that's all your own?
Probably get it blank. Most of my characters have really specific (often fantasy) looks, so most company faceups, though beautiful, aren't right for my characters. I'd rather have them done just the way I like them. Would you rather have a floating head you really like that you have to find a body for, or a really nice headless body you have to find a head for?
Definitely the head, I think it's what really makes a character when paired with the perfect face up Finding a body I like is usually easier than a head since sometimes they aren't offered for sale by themselves x,O Would you rather have a few sets of expensive/fancy outfits, or a wide selection of more casual wear for your dolls?
Wide selection of casual wear. I can make fancy outfits it's the totally normal stuff I have problems with. Would you rather have a fancy camera and indoor setup to take photos or have a good camera that you can take great outdoor photos?
Fancy camera and in door set up. I'm a TERRIBLE photographer and I need all the help I can get! Would you rather learn to make alpaca wigs, or forget that and just keep buying wigs?
YES I would love to learn how to make alpaca wigs! Most of my characters have faux fur wigs already, which look similar, except those wings are a little ill fitting and aren't the perfect length. Would you rather have only one perfectly fitting outfit for each doll (and that doll only) or a whole lot of clothes that don't really fit right?
I'd definitely rather have more clothing that doesn't fit quite right because I could always get creative with the fit. Would you rather have the perfect photography set up but have very little time to shoot or edit/upload photos, or have terrible lighting and no equipment but tons of time for doll photography?
First option! I already have no time at all to shoot photos because the lighting lasts for only an hour before I leave/whenever I get home xD might as well have a fancy setup If you could choose one or the other, would you rather be skilled in sculpting dolls and doing faceups, or be excellent at sewing outfits and crafting props?
Definitely sculpting dolls and doing face-ups. Would you rather have a ton of different eyes for your dolls, or wigs?
Grail doll, of course...because it's, well, a grail. Would you rather have one of your dolls suddenly come to life and start sharing its views on the world with you - or have your dog (or cat...or chinchilla, or hermit crab or whatever) suddenly learn the English language and start sharing its views on the world with you...?
Definitely one of my dolls. Chances are that it would be Ash or Thaddeus. Ash would be great because as a graphic artist his career is what I used to do, so lots to talk about. Thaddeus would be interesting and a bit twisted, though I hope that his fireball throwing ability wouldn't arrive with him. Would you rather trade your MSDs for SDs or your SDs for MSDs, if the sculpts remained the same just different size.
Well...considering I only have MSDs, I guess I'd have to trade them for SDs. That'd be okay, though Aelic's baby face on a big body might be kind of weird. I'd have more room for detail on Ilya's painting and clothes though, so that'd be pretty cool. Would you rather find a random doll at a great price at a thrift store or something, or find the same amount of money to put towards a doll of your choosing?
I LOVE finding random dolls. Love it. I found a tiny kitty bjd at Tuesday Morning a couple weeks ago. That said, I wouldn't say no to finding money. Would you rather by an anthro doll or add animal features to a regular doll?
I'd rather add animal features to a regular doll. I like the hand/feet parts that I've seen on the anthro dolls, but I will always choose a 'human' face. Unless it's DC's Elizabeth, then that's a totally different ball game. Would you rather have one doll body and tons of heads for it, or just a bunch of dolls?
A bunch of dolls that way they can interact with each other. Photographing one doll all time limits what you can do. Plus BJDs are social creatures sooner or later the single body would start talking to the other heads and it would be sad. Would you rather have your dolls sleeves too long or too short?
Too long, actually. I like the cute too long look for a cutesy character. Would you rather have only skirts or only shorts?
I think shorts, I couldn't give up pumpkin pants/bloomers. Would you rather do you own face up, or send it out to be customized?
That's a loaded question, because I'd rather do my own faceup...but since I've never tried, and think that I'd probably be awful at it...off go my dollies to be customized by someone who actually has the talent to bring my reveries to life. Your wonderful doll-photographing camera just fell down an elevator shaft - which definitely didn't do it a world of good. Would you rather buy a new one, or buy a new doll?
Ah, my beautiful camera! Heart broken, I'd probably buy another. My photography skills need this camera! Would you rather save up for a dream vacation which you can remember over the years, or a dream (grail) doll that you can hold, work on, and see every day?
I would rather take a vacation. My entire life has consisted of travel, and will continue to do so. Would you rather get into sculpting and casting your own heads to sell, or doing face up commissions?
Out of the two, I'm better equipped for face up commissions. Although casting my own heads sounds cool. Would you rather have a lot of dolls that you sort of like (for their own various reasons that make them unique), or a few dolls that you really like (dolls that you've been chasing after for a long time)?
I'd gotta say a few dolls I love, maybe I could have them evolve and grow, or maybe like reshell them if I get bored? Okay, would you rather your doll permanently have an ugly faceup, or permanently have ugly clothes?
Ugly clothing because you can accessorize and make ugly into something weird or eclectic. Would you rather have a doll group that was a rock band or a stringed quartet? and why...
A string quartet! Just because I like orchestral and chamber music and I could probably get some really elegant pictures. Getting suits for everyone would be hard though. Would you rather have a doll wardrobe of all dresses or all pants and shirts?
LOL! Ninety percent of my crew are large, macho males, so I'm going with the pants and shirts. XD Someone just gave you a thousand dollars to spend in what ever way you choose. Would you rather buy a doll, or donate it to feed the hungry?
Mythology definitely, I've always loved mythological creatures and the possibilities are endless with dolls! Doll Chateau in particular comes to mind as a gateway to that mindset Would you rather have perfectly sized jewelry and accessories for your dolls, or perfectly sized props for your dolls? (Props can be furniture, everyday items or even realistic foods?) EDIT: Sorry, I messed up the game, please disregard
@GreenTeaAnarchy The game is to answer the question of the person directly before you, not just choose one from somewhere on the list. Hehe...I'd rather buy a doll, of course! But I'd feel so guilty if I knew they wanted me to make a charitable donation, that that's probably what I would do. And I'd rather have props than jewelry. Would you rather spend a day alone with your doll, putting your full concentration into a project for them - or a day with a couple of other collectors, talking nonstop about your dolls while trying to work on projects - but getting very little accomplished?
Probably with other collectors, that's kind of how art jams with my friends go. Would you rather use your doll as a photography subject or for figure drawing?
Definitely figure drawing. I have no knowledge whatsoever involving photography XD Someone buys you doll clothes as a gift, but they're wrong for your doll's personality/character. Would you rather the clothes are the wrong style or the wrong color?
Well... That's kind of hard for me because I have several characters that have zero fashion sense and would literally wear anything... But I guess I'd prefer the wrong color. Anything is fine as long as it'll fit over Ilya's hips. Would you rather have a head with a perfect face sculpt but average faceup, or a so-so sculpt with a gorgeous faceup?
