    4. AND YOU CAN HAS PITTSBURGH!! :aheartbea Thank you Alanna, that totally made my day! I went to CMU, and loved the Burgh so much that I stayed on to live there for a couple years afterwards. The fancy skyline is definitely one of its shinier assets. When you come out of the tunnel on your way from the airport, *pow!* Ta-daaa! Skyline! Pittsburgh knows how to make an entrance.

What a beautiful shot; you & lovely Locutus had a perfect day on the overlook. Your dollies should give us a walking-tour next time you take them downtown, I'd love to see that. ^^

I used to live in this total roach-motel of a house on Baum & Melwood, sorta the borderlands between Oakland & East Liberty, right across from the Graffiti nightclub. Gnarly! I got my complex carbs from Iron City Light, lived on O-Fries at 3 AM three nights a week for years, and never hit 135 lbs. :whee: Ah, youth.

I'm a paranoid DollMom. :p But I wouldn't be opposed to taking some pictures around Point State Park... When the snow/cold goes away. ^_^ I was thinking of doing that anyway, come Spring.

this one looks from a monument at the park towards the reservoir gatehouse. this was before our snow, but there's still green leafs clinging to some of the trees despite all of the lovely golden ones on the ground!

    13. I really have enjoyed this thread! It's so great to see all the different locations and climates. Today is the first day I've had my doll that I've been home during daylight (I rush out the door in the morning, and it's dark by time I get home) so I was planning to take some pics today. It was raining though, so Riddick had to enjoy the view from my porch rather than exploring the neighborhood. This is Belmont, North Carolina, a small town just west of Charlotte, NC. Maybe someday I'll take him to work and get some city pictures.

It was late afternoon when I took these, and rainy. Riddick had his hood up but really couldn't have been cold. Despite the weather getting colder than usual earlier than usual this year, it had to have been around 70 today. That's unusually warm for this time of year, though. Many people on the board have snow - I've never seen snow on or near Christmas! We may get some in January or February, but rarely very much, and the little we get rarely stays more than a couple days. It's funny, if there's a prediction for even a bit of snow, everyone runs to the store and buys up all the bread and milk!

You can see most of the neighborhood has decorated for Christmas, including me!

Looking up the street. My next-door neighbor on that side has spent a LOT of time gardening. His front yard is mostly a large natural area with stone paths, bird feeders, an arbor and lots of flowers during spring and summer.

This is my house (yes, I have 2 Christmas trees crammed in there!). It's the smallest house in the neighborhood, I think!

My neighborhood is pretty interesting (to me, anyway). My house (and the others in the pics) was built around 100 years ago. At the time, the textile mills were the major employer in town, and they built "mill villages" for the workers to live in. There's still part of the mill near my house, but most of it has closed down. My neighborhood is a former "mill village" and my house is considered a "mill house". It's also called a "shotgun house" because the front and back doors line up - you could open them both and shoot a shotgun straight through.

The mill began working with contractors, and they demolished the houses that weren't in good shape, and completely renovated the rest to sell. Mine is a renovated one - it has gorgeous hardwood floors and high ceilings. You can't see it in the pictures, but my sister bought the empty lot next to my house and built a new house on it. The houses in the neighborhood are all on the smaller side, so the neighborhood is mostly young singles, young families, and a few retired couples. We have a community gazebo, walking path, and half basketball court. It's nice, I live in this small town in a cute friendly neighborhood, but live just 10-15 minutes from the city where I work, so there's good shopping and dining conveniently nearby.

    14. I drive through Lake County every time I go to and come home from school, and this is the first time I've stopped for a photo-op.... It's a lovely area. It was also insanely cold. >.< Lake county is the poorest county in California, but...it sure makes a nice place to stop when you're falling asleep behind the wheel.

Rani is wearing his flight suit, and the scarf our friend made for him. It's the equivalent of about 15 feet of scarf, in doll scale.... But you can bet he was warm with it. XD

    16. Alrighty! We managed to get some awesome weather here in Pittsburgh yesterday. A lot of people were taking advantage of it. I didn't get any shots from inside downtown Pittsburgh, as I'd be really nervous carrying a doll around downtown by myself. But I'm okay with the surrounding park areas. :sweat So without further ado... Enjoy!

Heinz Stadium is directly behind Locutus' head, Carnegie Science Center is to the left and the picture is taken from the Point in Point State Park. That's the fountain on the lower left, but it's turned off for the winter.

And if you're curious about Pittsburgh in general, here's the Wikipedia article: Pittsburgh, PA

I'll probably try to get more pictures this coming Spring/Summer. They're supposed to finish renovating Point State Park then and I think it will look a lot better. ^_^

    17. It was so bright out that I couldn't get really good pics, so here are two really terrible views of Charlotte. I should have taken him out to lunch with me and gotten a pic of the whole skyline, since it's prettier than the construction view we have from work.

Here's a little bit of downtown (which is actually usually called "uptown") Charlotte. All the big buildings are kind of in a line, with a break before some other ones start, so you can't see many in this picture. Some of the nice ones are lost in the glare, also. The half-finished one is the new Wachovia corporate center. Assuming Wells Fargo keeps the Wachovia name...

Here's the glare-blurred view out the front door of my workplace. That's the Carolina Panthers Football Stadium there. We're RIGHT THERE, so our parking lot is sold by the season for games. Once I had to make someone move their hibachi where they were grilling brats behind my car so I could leave!

I actually left before it got dark today, so I didn't get a picture of the light sculpture on one of the buildings facing our office. It's pretty flashing neon.

Both my mum and my aunt worked for Caltrans, so I had to show 'em this broken road. This is what happens when you build on sand, children. (Seriously, the bluff is sand. You can dig your whole arm into it with just your fingernails. In my oceanography class, we measured that the houses at the top of the road have maybe 30 years before they fall right into the ocean.)

The forsythia bush had started blooming! But they're weird blossoms, not just plain yellow, and not the simple, four petalled variety with which I'm familiar. They have 8 curly petals with red on them. Incredibly cool, especially against the dismal grey-brown of a Virginia February.

    39. I took Hermione to school with me today, and snapped a few pics at school and outside. So the first two are inside Nipissing University, on the crooked staircase. Confused? Trust me, I was too, my first time walking into the school. It just kinda looks like odd perspective in the picture, right?

      Nope.

There is this set of stairs that is built as though you were walking down a normal set of stairs. But it's not a normal set of stairs - the wall on one side, and the glass wall on the other - are at a 45 degree angle... so even though the stairs are designed to walk straight down, you can't walk straight down them, or you'd smuck into a wall!

(She looks so unimpressed to be there.... I snapped the pic really fast, cause I didn't want anyone to come along the hallway and see me. >__< )

I should see if I can get a better picture, because they're so odd, students have even made spoof documentaries about Crooked Staircase Support Groups.

How could I forget, I actually have some of my own NorCal greenery to share! On Valentine's Day, storms all over the area, cold & rainy & windy, 3 friends and I decided it would be a good day to go up on top of Mount Tamalpais (also in lovely Marin County). Miserable weather. What moron would go out taking doll photos in this, right? Our driver, Farallon, had thought to bring hot tea and a little brandy, and like a good Boy Scout he never gets lost and knows every twist in those trails. So it turned out to be a perfectly good idea after all. We got some great adventure photos in the Mt Tam Watershed national park area.

When it's wet out in the winter, and especially right after a rain, the moss gets even greener, progressively brighter and brighter, like it's saturating itself with color as well as water. It's crazy. But look at that magic Lord-of-the-Rings fairy light you get in those forests up there-- it's high noon, but the light's been filtered within an inch of its life, and then the greens give off their own glow. So I deliberately brought tan dolls up there (Samir the Soo Ri & Stavros the Mano) because these guys look awesome in green. :)

But meanwhile, there was some sun today so tried a few in my backyard. Pretty dull California suburban weeds but here it goes:

    48. GAH!
All these Northern CA dolls, when I end up feeling like I'm the only one up here with them! How bout all of you COME OVER TO THE MENDOCINO COAST this summer when it's hot inland for a meet-up? We can do great photo sessions at the beach and by the river, and I have room for some guests- plenty if people want to camp in the back yard.
      :)

I live two miles from here:

    49. We haven't been very good taking pictures of our neighbourhood... But here are some from our city, at least!

Shiori at Waldemars udde, at the inlet to Stockholm, with the south side shore and a ship in the background....

My friend OldMagician's Alma, also at Waldemars udde but two years later, showcasing one of the huge car ferries that navigate the narrow passages of Stockholm's archipelago to reach the centre of the city...

Shiori again, with a hazy view of one of the small docks that dots the waterline, even in central Stockholm... Also from our most recent visit at Waldemars udde.

    51. (Hello Arafel! :))
It is spring! Our daffodils are the first flower to pop out of the dirt, very reliable. Never trusted that groundhog anyways.
Henry was excited to find them in their usual spot under the big horse chestnut trees.

It's hardly warm enough for shorts and bare feet though, but that is all he has :sweat

    52. Ok here are a few from Saskatchewan Canada. None are to fancy but this is all I could come up with at the moment.

First some sky shots, as Sask is known as 'land of the living skies'

A couple pics taken in fall around the yard. *sigh* Yes, its true Saskatchewan is quite flat in places...

    55. It was a gorgeous day so I decided to take Lena outside for some pics.
I and my family live on 32 acres in rural farm and ranch country- but we don't have a farm.. just grass and trees.

    56. Not too exciting but this is the view from the sidewalk infront of my house in Ohio.

Don't ask about the mud-covered Jeep. I didn't notice it until after I took the pictures. XD So I couldn't use this picture for anything but this thread.

    58. Heehee ya that's pretty much it. Although right now were are right in between the tundra season and the desert season, *sighs* and its supposed to be even hotter then normal this summer. *dies*

Anyway, yep I pretty much live in the middle of the flat prairie, with fields as far as the eye can see, which is pretty far, lol.

I hope its ok to post these since there isn't any dolls actually in them... but this is really what its like where I live (when you step out of our yard and out of the trees)

In winter. Those are our neighbours cattle far in the distance.
