OT/General Working out anatomy (go to page 8)

Sep 2, 2010

    1. it's fine if you don't follow my drawing xD i used no reference so chances are i made mistakes, it's more like hi light trouble arias so you can check them 8D?

also as i'm always saying everyone has a different body, and of course theres a difference between unrealistic body build and atomically correct, but it really depends on what your going for! so just go for what feels right wile referencing the muscle structure

    2. urgh, when mind is focusing on something, all my social graces go out the window >_< I worded that much harsher than I intended.

To make up, let me link some useful pictures... >_<

Rodin's age of bronze is a very nice gestural work. It's very educational to see side by side pictures of it and Michaelangelo's David. I have another Rodin I like, but it's less useful for anatomy reference, and in any case I can't find it in lists of Rodin's major works....

This photo shows just how thin legs (and arms) can be, on real people. Note especially the width of the knee bones to the width of the cheekbones?

    3. LOL love the second picture you linked xD so my point exactly so just pick what you like C:

i wasn't offended i get pretty aggressive when art critique happens -u- (doesn't everyone ?)

actually my all time favourite is Donatello's David (that's what i use for for reference~) i find the body is really well done <3 he really knew what he was doing

    4. *gasp* the sideview is amazing 8DDDDDDDDD

I use michaelangelo's A LOT because stanford made a 3d scan of it, so I can rotate it every which way and take snapshots that can be compared to drawings~

    5. psh he's a muscular pansy >:U (lol i actually have nothing agenst him i just like Donatello's better xD)

      i know right ;D

    6. I think it may just be his posture that seems to make him off-whack, but nothing actually wrong with his anatomy. He looks just fine to me otherwise.

Do you mean the pic on page 1 or page 6...?

    8. I initially meant the first one, but the one on page 6 matches it, too, only not nearly as much. The posture's a lot better in it.

    9. what is wrong with the posture? :OOOOO

<- when I draw, I only really know to line up the ears and the front of the ankle bone. The curvature of the spine I know next to nothing.

    10. AstridRune comment reminded me of something i was told the human figure is like a stretched out s so the ankles and ear line up and the bum, while the stomach and the calf/legs curve out, that might help a little X:

    11. I flipped the picture over...and it looks like maybe the legs slant too far back? (But I'm changing it and it doesn't look exactly better...yet?)

As for curves and lining up...
I've heard about drawing a large S through the neck, stomach, then back of the calves (and my picture seem to be able to do that), but I've scrutinized pictures for back alignment....and there's a lot of variation. :\ I think mostly I just...sort of feel for the center of gravity in the head, torso, hip...?

      As for posture...
      I am *aiming* for a very neutral posture, neither arched nor hunched over. A neutral posture seems best for jointing, right? But it also makes it harder for me to....pin down character. But I didn't want a whole lot of 'character' ._. I wanted something very neutralllll. Neutral but still pretty ;_;

    12. actually i find when you start sculpting the doll decides what arch it wants in the back 8D;;; also once you add joints and if you do your job right he will be able to stand slightly slouched and with his back arched so don't worry about it too much (if you wore doing a one piece torso then i'd worry xD)
