I hope that in a couple of months my RS body will be here and I do have a 2018 tan FL doll but I can't compare until the WD arrives , sorry @Beedalee

 

When my real Theo arrives (hopefully in the next month or so, I am waiting for him to arrive to Bjdivas), I can compare it to Unoa Paradise and Minifee tan
I've heard that unoa paradise and minifee tan are pretty different colors but in my experience, they are very, very similar - I don't know if it's a batch thing or not though, but my unoa paradise plates are from 2018 I believe and my minifee body I got in-stock from DDE from a tan Rendia... so I assume it was from the tan discontinuation event. Like, it's not an exact match and would need some blushing but they're way closer than the stark differences I've seen in other company tans.

Sadly I don't have any withdoll brown tan anymore (I am hoping to eventually get an emma elf in it, unless I decide to go for real), but withdoll changed their resin compositions so unless you're working with an older doll, any resin comparison will likely be out of date/inaccurate.

 

@IngieBee That's totally okay, I am not in a hurry!! Thank you for helping at all, I will graciously take anything I can get anytime.

@Epona I absolutely don't mind waiting, I am starting early on this research (because if WD runs a random tan event this year I'll go into a panic because I'm unprepared. )

It would be AMAZING if you had a direct match to paradise!! I typically ask for FL Tan because that is the most popular (if not the only documented) 85-90% match hybrid for Paradise Unoas. And I agree!! I also have both FL/Paradise tan from different past years but it's so much more workable than the more orange or olive-based tans of other companies, but I'm really not a fan of their limited mobility for the price. (And with the discontinuation I feel like they're gradually inflating in cost )

I figured WD changed their tans recently too because DimensionDolls' blog post about all the shades over the years had my head spinning lmao-- I would love to see if I could hunt down a Honey Brown resin comparison too since that seems to be a recent addition, and I was aiming for the new jwd body if it works out. Got my work cut out for me...

 

Well, I'll certainly post as soon as I get them, unfortunately probably at least anotehr two monts, which is killing me, LOL

 

I have a Real UV boy from 2013, and a FL tan boy from 2017 (who is still blank because I am equal parts indecisive, craft-ADD, and tearing up my studio to move yet again *shakes fist*); they are absolutely not a match. Both because the color doesn't match up, and because Real UV is a translucent-style resin that won't match with FL's urethane resin regardless of colors.

Here's Jace (WD Kyle) with his AU counterpart Jaeson (FL El). Apologies for the somewhat lousy lighting, it's well after dark here, but their hands are true to color--Jace is definitely pinker and more translucent than Jaeson.

 

Well, my body should be regular urethane, at least I sincerely hope so as otherwise , like @vicemage said, I'll never get my heads to match! The color I ordered was real and not real uv so I'm a little worried about my order now

And I'm still itching for a shipping notification, though it hasn't even been 2 months yet! LOL

 

They're not making UV resins anymore, so you'll get regular urethane no matter what skin tone you order these days.

Also they have a new boy! His name is Jiho, and his promo model is casted in beige resin, a new color. It looks like it's peachier than normal and real, and maybe somewhere between the two in shade? It looks really nice, it looks different from the old normal (which I wish they would bring back is a 'normal pink' or 'peach pink' ....), but I wasn't a fan of their new normal, so it's nice to have more options.

Yeah, the new skin colour looks really yummy My Cathy is in normal skin, and she looks so pallid. I've been wanting Theo in real skin, but might just order him in beige

 

I bought Theo in real, still waiting for him to ship from the dealer, but if I was sure he would have been released as a basic... I might have just waited and bought him in beige, lol. Especially since I think Jiho would look really nice in real. I am really happy to see more mature jwd boys, though.

 

The new boys are open for order~ I just placed an order for Theo in Beige. Can't wait!

Ah, I had forgotten what and when you got it @St. Reinhardt ! Theo is gorgeous and so is Jiho, I'm feeling a pull, but i need to recover financially, LOL

 

I think adding new colours was a great idea given how pale their new normal is. They remind me a bit of Iplehouse's peach gold and real skin from how they look in comparison images. Hmmm... this makes it more and more tempting for me to get Olivia at some point, as the lack of darker skin was what made me pass on her in the past... we'll see as I'm already looking at different doll events this summer.

I'm not collecting MSD boys, but the frowny Jiho is adorable. I noticed that the latest boys have a different faceup style - more painterly and expressive. I wonder if they changed their faceup artist, or maybe it is the same person, but they just changed their style a bit.

 

In case anyone was wondering, the faiyland fullset dina boots fit on my withdoll Ruby's flat feet! Plus unlike the magnetic minifee feet there is no long battle removing disembodied feet from said boots... another reason to love Withdoll!!

So I recently placed an order for a Theo in beige directly with withdoll I look forward to my new boy! Now I just need to decide if I want to eventually get Emma in real or maybe grey (withdoll was open to a custom order) later this year.

 

This has probably been asked a thousand times but:
where to get clothes for the boys that fit properly? Normal (and slim) MSD stuff all seems to be too short or tight. ._.

 

Plugging Bears again, this time with pics! They're a Chinese brand so buying directly from their Taobao shop through a proxy will generally be the cheapest option, but Alice's Collections also sells their clothes at a markup with the product code prefix BRS. The product description should also say it's from Bears. I can't vouch for their pants as I only own tops. All modeled by my Theo.

My Theo is out for delivery Well, I'm again impressed with the waiting time, it's taken two months for my Theo order to finalise.

Here she is, I'm not sure what skin color she has. It looks to me like tan or real skin. I took the picture in natural light so the skin color is pretty accurate, any ideas?

 

She looks like a Real skin to me, but could also be a Brown Tan that has mellowed? I don't think DE Angela was offered in Real skin, if her listing on the Withdoll website is anything to go by.

I assume she's fairly old? Because in that case the only option is brown tan (or rosy brown, but that would be darker and purpler). Real skin used to be offered only as UV resin until recently, and yours looks urethane.

Here are photos of my Angela in Brown Tan. (Non-UV) As demonstrated by both photos, her complexion can vary wildly depending on the light, to a more rich tan to a more pale brown, though she does tent to be quite "warm." Withdoll has been willing to casting colors for dolls on custom order before, so it's possible she could even be a color that wasn't normally offered for the Dark Elf Vera edition.
She does look a bit of an "ashy pale tan," though, so I am tempted to believe she could be old Real UV though. I am not sure of her DoA username but this is a photo of Kicky Resin's Ruby in Real UV.

Yellowing and batches can complicate identification, though.

 

I'm not sure how old she is as I bought her second hand. The seller described her as Rosy Brown but I think that color is too dark. So maybe Brown Tan, then? It's a beautiful color in person imo. Thanks for your help Yenna.

 

In that case she could be rosy brown, because the tone does seem fairly cold. She may have been from a slightly lighter batch (also urethane was always lighter than UV) and has yellowed. The color also looks vastly different in different lightings. You can look at my photos of my rosy brown girl and see if they're similar at all. But the color really varies in different light. And as resin yellows the red tones fade first, so the purplishness might be mostly gone already.

 

I'm not sure, she def doesn"t have a purpley undertone that I can see. It looks like a tan of some type, a bit on light side. Sorry that's the only way I can describe it.

 

It's not the best photo, but I've had three Angel dark elves... one in brown tan posted earlier, and one in rosybrown-uv and rosybrown. Unfortunately I don't have any of them anymore, but they were all at least several years old.


Angela with the faceup is rosybrown-uv and the one next to her was normal rosybrown, if memory serves correctly. Rosybrown-uv is a dark, greyish brownish purpleish color and normal rosybrown is a dark, brownish greyish color. Both are very pretty but I wouldn't think either one would get as light and pale as @KimC's doll, even with unique aging and variations at play by batches.

I think Kim's doll might be either real and maybe came out in a slightly more opaque batch or is a yellowed brown tan? Either way, she's a very pretty doll Angela is a lovely sculpt... I don't have her anymore but... clearly I am very biased, LOL. I hope Withdoll does a new lineup of their resin colors, since they've all changed since that one photo was taken.

 

Then I'll probably conclude it to be brown tan. Older brown tans get very pale and it's not the warmest color. xD Real UV is quite yellowy and you should really be able to tell that it's UV resin and not urethane, should be obvious in photos too.

Both rosybrowns are dark and purple-ish to begin with but the UV yellows/mellows faster. Withdoll's darker urethane colors get paler with age and rosy brown is especially difficult to identify because it looks vastly different in every possible light. It can be impossible to identify from photos, which is why asked the owner. If she thinks hers isn't dark enough, then it probably isn't. I'd also call rosy brown a clearly unnatural/grey based color instead of tan. But there are instances where it can look very much like a tan as well and confuse people. xD

I haven't wanted to bother Withdoll with making new samples, but perhaps I'll ask them at some point if I manage to save up to buy a new doll from them. I'm keeping the samples in the dark and saving them to see how they yellow because I'm interested in such things. And it might help someone identify older dolls. However, comparison photos aren't the best thing either, as colors are majorly affected by other colors next to them. Ideally you'd need to have a variation of similar colors and different colors next to one another in different photos and do a lot of cross referencing (that is if you don't have the colors at hand in person). Also with different lightings and different backgrounds.

I remade that 2014 comparison of mine with the same bits and pieces (middle bit is from the same batch, tho a different part). They were only a year old at most when I took that original photo, now they're 5-6 years old. Sorry the light is a bit stronger this time:

As you can see, the old brown tan has gotten very pale with age and is actually a tone lighter than honey brown from last year. It's also slightly colder in tone. As for the non-dark-stored pieces of grey and rosy brown, it's really hard to tell in photos, but they are both a bit yellower than the samples that have been stored in the dark. I keep my dolls out in showcases and they are in contact with natural (non-direct) light coming in from my window.

 

Does anyone happen to know if Little Monica or Luts white matches any of the Withdoll white resins? I'm thinking of getting an Ian but would also want to be able to use his body for a floating head.

 

My Theo just arrived! I was so surprised, I knew he was shipping soon, but I never saw/got a tracking number! He's really, really lovely. The beige resin is a little darker, a little peachier than the old NS resin I think - definitely my go to for light skinned resin for Withdoll going forward, since the new NS looks a bit... jaundiced to me, unfortunately. ^^; I ordered him August 8th, so that was a really quick turn around time, too!

 

Little Monica's white is a pink white. Luts real skin white is also a pink white but a bit lighter and slightly less pink. So the Withdoll colours that are white/pink are light rose white and rose white. The light rose white looks a bit light and white next to LM & Luts. When I first got my rose white body last year, it was pinker than LM & Luts but has quickly lost some of it's pinkness so is a closer match now. I can double check tomorrow how close it is now if there's some good natural daylight (it's stormy at the mo so garbage light levels)

Viewers left body- Withdoll rose pink 2020
Viewers right body- Luts real skin white 2021
Top head cap- Withdoll light rose white 2020
Bottom head cap- Little Monica white 2021
Luts and Withdoll light rose white matched closest to each other and Little Monica white was closer to faded Withdoll rose white. I think if you wanted to try and match both Luts and LM white then Withdoll light rose white would be the best choice.

Thank you everyone for your help on identifying my Angela's skin color. Here she is with a Tatsukitty face up. She still needs an outfit and a different wig to tie in better with her personality but I really like her strong look.
