WITHdoll Mini Discussion Part 7

I just heard from Withdoll today. My girl will ship next week! I'm so excited!

 

Congrats! I haven't had to deal with the WD wait times, since my girl was second hand. Are they horrifying?

Oh man, the WITHdoll dolls are kinda short, aren't they?

 

Does anyone know if VOLKS MSD clothing fits WITHdoll girls? I'm thinking of buying my incoming Rosa a dress set, but I was wondering if it may be too big.

 

I don't own a Volks MSD, but Withdoll girls and MiniFee girls are similar in proportions as far as shoulders and waist, and MiniFee are thinner than Volks MSD and therefore classified as "Slim Mini." From that I would presume that Volks MSD clothing would be a little loose on Withdoll girls.

Played a bit with Uliat and his fiancée, Faye (she's a MNF elf Yder on a Withdoll girl body).




Uliat: - There isn't "Kiss the cook" written on my apron...

Faye: - Because you know you don't need such expedients to be kissed by me!

 

I have a question for the WD girls owner.
How is the posability of their knees? I only just saw today that the girls are lacking a lot in the joint department compared to the boys. Especially the fact that their knees are still single jointed made my interest to get an Egon girl (after seeing they added the option after all today) slightly deflat.
(Nevermind the fact they are also lacking the extra jointing near the hips, that I adored with my Fenrir and Kyle)

So how do you feel about those knees? Nice to look at, but not made for posing? Or not that much of an issue unless you want her to sit on her own feet?

 

A bunch of us were JUST complaining about this issue on literally the previous page! Yes, there's definitely a limit to the poses you can do with those knees! They are very pretty to look at when they're standing, and they're quite stable when sitting at 90 degrees or lying down with their knees resting over a corner, but there really isn't any in-between.

The "suwaricco/sitting child/W-sit" pose is possible but very awkward-looking, since you have to pull the elastic forward so back of her calf catches on the back of her knee. Trying to get her to sit with her legs fully under her in "seiza" style makes unstable unless you flatten her feet to the surface she's sitting on and point her toes towards each other, which allows the backs of her thighs to rest on the backs of her calves, but her butt kind of "floats" above her heels. She can sit decently with one knee bent underneath the other leg, but trying to put both legs under her slightly off to one side will also make her unstable, as her body will want to lean over and her knees will strain to snap back into place. Oh, and crouching or squatting is an absolute no-go.

It's as I had feared. I probably would have somehow been able to work with it, but unfortunately Withdoll just repliedthat they currently arent producing the sweet green color to raise productivity, so despite my hopes it looks like this character of mine wont be shelled by WD after all. And probably not for a while.

Real shame thought about the wd girls, especially given the great posability of the boys

 

I still have no trouble getting the knees to an inbetween pose for walking poses etc. This is how far she can crouch/squat (WD obviously being the only grey doll in the lineup). It's a little sad. ^^;

I'm still pretty sure they're making a new mini girl body next, so I'm waiting for that one before getting one of my floating heads a body. It'll most likely be more pose savvy, and less "good-looking". Ie. the torso joint will probably be lower (like on the SWDs), nuggets inside the knees, some sort of a thigh joint... etc. All of which improve the posing but make the body less aesthetically pleasing. The first boy body was a crappy poser (all it could do was stand), the girl body (believe it or not) is better, the second boy body is way better and the SWD body is also very good, so I'm expecting improved posing from their next body as well. :3 I'd say they improve something with each body they release.

 

My Eliza head arrived the other day, I wanted to use it for one of my male OC's because her eyebrows were the same as his and her original face up comes with a beauty mark in the same place he has it. So it was perfect.

I was concerned that the head would look too small in a male doll but, if anybody is interested, it fits pretty well.

@Lylith He's lovely oh my. The outfit is really interesting. How well does the girl head fit on the boy neck? Is there much gapping or limited mobility? The proportions look pretty stellar.

@Snowy the knees pose is fine, for a single jointed joint. If you want a better leg movement, I would suggest re-stringing with 4mm elastic (it is thicker than default) and hot glueing/sueding hips/knees. I even got my doll to kneel several times. It is also a matter of patience to pose them.

@OkamiKodomo Hello! haha, thanks. The outfit is because he was born as a parody of the female warrior in 'practical' armor that are basically bikinis, so it was an ironic echo. The neck fits perfectly, there's no gaping and it moves freely and in the same way the male head (I have a Mai sculpt) does. I can take pictures if you want.

Your description about the hybrid made me curious. Did you had to suede the neck? Or it works without sueding?

 

@OkamiKodomo Here are a few pictures. I took off the wig ad top/collar off so you could see the neck better. No gap at all and full posseability. Sorry about the lighting, it was already close to darkness when I managed to find time to snap some photos.

@Musume aw, thank you so much, you are too nice ♥♥♥. And no, no need for sueding at all. It fits juts as it is. I don't know if it will work the same with other girl's head. I have an Emma, so I could always give it a try too if any of you is curious about how that one's fit.

 

It looks like my Ruby will be the last new doll I get for quite a while as I really need to keep a tight grip on my finances so I can buy a house. So that makes me even more anxious for her to get here!

My Ruby isnt scheduled to be shipping for about another week, I'm just hoping the holiday event doesn't delay her too much.

So, last year I made Uliat a long coat with some faux suede and pleather inspired to the one worn by Kyuzo in the anime "Samurai Seven", but I realized I never took a shot of it finished, only some in the making.



I was thinking about adding a pleather obi-like belt in order to hang the miniature katana I bought for him...

@Mitis Feles thank you!! Yes those jars are amazing! The weird thing about the cup I broke, was that it was perfect when I was carefully packing it, and when I finished covering it with paper and put it on the box, I heard a 'crack' and the cup broke all by itself!! I was so angry! T_T

I'm still on the fence about ordering Egon, and I was wondering if anyone happens to own a Withdoll and a DreamingDoll Little Elva? Seeing their proportions next to each other may help motivate me.

 

Roughly two more weeks until my Rosa is scheduled to ship. However, I have a feeling WITHdoll probably won't ship her until right before or after Christmas. How late are they known to be?

My Rosa came in today!

I've just ordered her a pair of green Mako eyes, but for now these glass ones will do. WITHdoll actually shipped her out when they said they would - I'm a bit surprised. Anyways, I thought I'd drop a photo of her in here, as there aren't many Rosa pics out there. More to come, for sure.

Withdoll faceups are great, my three dolls from them have default faceups (although I asked them to not put the black dots at the corners of the mouth).

It took me so long to find a decent red, curly wig for her. 6-7 heads, I tell ya. All I want to do is take tons and tons of pictures of her, now.

 

Yes, that is her default face up. She's also in her outfit too. I loved everything about her so I had to get her. That is a different wig though as I didn't like the fur one her set came with. I wanted to stick with a purplish color though ^.^

 

@NekoNyanMew maybe you could try LullabyPoem? I have one of them and the quality is perfect. They have like 3 different shades of red.

So many amazing Withdoll dollies have been coming home!!

Here's my spoiled munchkin, Adley. I have a floating Taren head that needs a body. (Withdoll hint hint open the limited resin colors again hint hint) Adley is the Cathy sculpt in Real UV and I believe I will always be completely enamored with her~


Also, the limited holiday penguins especially Pooky took a lot of resisting on my part during December. I hope when they get to their homes their owners will share lots of photos!!
