Which of your family members are into BJDs?

Apr 14, 2007

    1. My mom. She bought me my first doll (DOT Sha) for my birthday.
She doesn't own a doll but she enjoyed looking at them.

    2. No-one else in my family is into dolls, but my little sister (now that she's seen my doll) absolutely loves her. I don't live at home, but when I went home for Christmas I brought my doll. My little sister (who is 16) was enthralled. It was cute--I thought she'd think it was a stupid toy, but she spent a good portion of my stay at home with my doll on her lap. XD I reaaaaally doubt she'd want her own, but she definitely likes mine.

    3. Just me!
My mum doesn't understand them and is a bit freaked out by them, although, she loves bragging about them, lol!
Dad enjoys learning about my particular dorries and characters.
My brother couldn't care less XD

    4. Over Christmas my little sister (I say little-she's a teenager) came to stay with me and she seemed to really like one of my two girls. And it would happen the girl she so loved was one I just couldn't seem to make the character fit/get right/etc so I gave the little dear to her. And while it's still pretty early in her dollie love-she seems absolutely smitten and has been making clothes and wigs and all kinds of things non-stop. ^-^ So I can add her to my 'family members that are into dolls' list.

    5. I got my daughter interested she now has one. My son has no real time for them, but kinda likes Uni Real Ark. He would much have me spend money on him (but I have a life). But I am the one who has more than one. My Mother probably would not approve, but I have not talked to her in 10 years anyway.

    6. I wish i had a Family member that I could share this hobby with. The closes thing I have to that is an ex/best friend that wants a BJD.

    7. None of mine are. In fact many of them find it disturbing. :(

    8. None of my family is exactly into BJDs.

My three little brothers just mock me about owning dolls. They think it's just stupid that a girl of this age (I'm 21) still plays with dolls. They always ask me what is the purpose of buying such expensive dolls and although I've been trying to explain it them for 2 years now they still don't get it. My dad hasn't said anything about them.

Only one who is even slightly interested about this hobby in my family is my dad's "girlfriend". I really don't know what I should call her because she's not my stepmother because she's not married with my dad. They just live together. But but. She is a dressmaker and loves the idea that I do clothes for my dolls. She has even told me that she could do some doll-sized patterns for me :) But even she would never buy a doll because they're too expensive.

    9. My mom and sister, my mom's got over 20 dolls by now! It's pretty great most of the time in my opinion :)

    10. My sister has a few. I know one of my cousins would love to have some doll but just can't afford it and the same can be said of my mom.

    11. None! My mother likes some of my dolls, my father doesn't know about their existence, my sister is afraid of them and my brother can't explain how I spend my money in dolls

    12. It would be so awesome if anyone in my family were into BJDs. My two children (age 4 & 6) admire the dolls, and my husband comes to look at them on the doll shelf, but I wouldn't say they are into BJDs. My mom doesn't get why I like the dolls so much and neither does my dad. My sister doesn't care either way about them and my college-age niece thinks it's weird but funny at the same time.

I take photos of the dolls and write on the back of the prints and use those as my thank-you notes and notecards. Whenever I send those to my mom, sister, and niece, they put them up on their bulletin boards at work or in my niece's case, in her dorm room, so I guess they are accepting of the dolls, at least.

    13. None. But my mom collects Barbies and that's probably the closest I'm going to get to someone liking BJD's like I like them.

    14. my dad thinks they are creepy, my mom likes them to a point, (she collects other dolls her self) and my little niece like to play with them and dress them up ^^

    15. Sadly none :( Some of my friends do collect other dolls like blythe and momoko though

    16. My big sister, who is a DoA member also. We got into the hobby about the same time, although she got her first doll before I did. Our dolls are basically one big doll family rather than two different ones. And we recently got my cousin into the hobby also. He just joined DoA not too long ago after getting a Soom Migma with both bodies and heads! ^^;;;

    17. No one is all that interested in them; part of them find them tolerable, the other half doesn't.

    18. So far only my 2 older daughters and I are a big fan of them. My family just calls me a big kid.

    19. being a big kid is great! i tell my mom that they are her grand kids ^^

    20. My Fiancee was amazed at the doll i picked out for my first doll, I think he wants to see what I come up with, and i already know he''ll be very interested to see what OC i come up with, so he's a vivacious BJD fan lol does that count?

    21. In my case it's aunt and niece. I got into the hobby first, and surprisingly, after sitting with me and looking at a few of them, she wants one too! I might end up getting her a tiny for her birthday or something.

    22. My sister is. She can't afford one yet, but we talk seriously about it all of the time, and she often goes BJD "window shopping" with me. She's also sewed dresses for my doll and introduced me to sewing at the same time! We're a team. :D

    23. My sister is. She has one that she bought from me. She isn't active online but she still likes them. :)

    24. My mother thinks they are pretty cool. I think she likes the fact that they are so customizable, but she wouldn't ever bother getting one for herself, just not her thing.

^_^;; I don't really have other family besides her, my aunt, and my sister. My aunt is kinda a hippie and isn't into that kinda thing (although, she laughed when my boy was in pieces all over my floor back when I was restringing XD I told her to excuse the dismembered body on the ground. She was a little disappointed it was only a doll lol!). My sister I dislike and don't really talk to, but she'd be fine with em. They are pretty cool about all the weird stuff I'm into XD

    25. My sister and I both have dolls, and I bought my mom her first doll for Christmas! Most of my family is supportive too, except for the men...who mostly don't understand the whole 'doll thing'.

    26. No one in my family, but my brothers gf wants one. I bought her a hujoo baby for xmas with wig and dress to get her started down the dangerous road.

    27. None..... but they respect without understand~

    28. My daughter has 2...I am waiting for my first one (Christmas Present from daughter)

    29. My sister, Christina_Xx and I are both in the hobby, started about the same time. She ordered her first doll right after my first arrived.

My husband owns a doll, but he doesn't have an account here and doesn't really get into the hobby, he just likes having Ron hang out with him while he plays WoW and Diablo. :P

EDIT: My parents get involved but don't own or desire dolls. My mom sews for my "kids" and my dad makes furniture. :)

    30. My 17 year old daughter enjoys the fact that I love dolls and have become obsessed with BJDs. However, her interest lies in collecting Pokemon dolls and figures as well as anime, manga, and video game figures. No one else in my rather limited family ever showed any real interest in dolls of any sort.

    31. Hujoos were my first foray into BJDs. An inexpensive way to create a passion for BJDs and incite a desire for resin BJDs.

    32. Well at the beginning I'm the one who's get my head pop into BJD, and my younger sister is the only who knows about this secret back then (now all my family members know I'm collecting doll), because I've borrow some money from her when I'm collecting funds for my first doll (KDF Luts Ani).

At first she can't agree with what I'm doing, and she feels I'm wasting my time and money away. But who cares (I suppose a lot of members here feels the same right?). haha.....

Now she's falling too, into world of BJD. she's already put her first doll in layaway, and very excited to see her doll come home^_^ She's like: Yay! I have a new doll coming and our dolls can actually share cloths and shoes and wigs and a lot of things! (She's buying MSD too) The rest of my family don't really agree with me, but they never opposed to what I'm doing right now^_^

    33. I wish my family was into BJD's they think they are a waste of money, though collecting other things are ok. I do have a close friend/family person that saw them and is interested in them because they are dolls and they are so customizeable.

    34. My sister likes them. She really loves puki's! Hm...and my grandmother likes them. She doesn't care for the cost though!

    35. I Have No one. :(
My sister thinks they're ok, but shes not into it.

    36. My daughter and I both involved in the hobby. My little boy has asked for a bjd for Xmas this year. Santa will be bringing him two: a 12 cm and a 24 cm (two that seem a little more difficult for a 5 year old to break!)

    37. My husband and I have a combined crew - they actually also go along with a friend of ours. But other than friends, it's just me and my hubby in the hobby.

    38. Two cousins of mine, that are also DoA members. They're also responsible for dragging me into this hobby.

    39. My hubby and both of our sons have dolls as well as my future SIL. Hubby has an account here but is no longer active (actually he is never on that I am aware of) but if you see Grax that is him. Our boys are much too young to have accounts but they have several dolls.

    40. At first it was just me and my sister but now its me, my sister, my older brother, his fiance, and my little brother. We all have spent countless hours together talking about dolls and looking at dollie pics. Currently my sister and I are the only ones with dolls but we're helping them all find the right first doll for them. ^^

    41. None of my family is really into it, but my close friends are and my mother seems interested. I'm so glad she's supporting me~ ^w^

    42. My son love my bjd dolls... he think they are so adorable..

    43. I showed it once to my sister and she fell for one. I'm not sure which one is it is, I think it was a dollmore doll, I'm not exactly sure. But she fell for it. She wants one as equally as I want one. ^^ It's really nice though, because we both talk about it and it makes us connect even more as an older sister and a younger sibling. She's older by the way. ^^;

    44. Me and my daughter are into BJD's....however, hubby thinks they are ugly and doesn't understand why we love them so much. He insists that the dolls I make are much prettier and more realistic looking. I don't see what he sees and can't understand why he says they look so fake. I think they look a lot more realistic than some of the porcelain dolls I used to make......

    45. My girlfriend and little sister are in the hobby with me. but I was first.

    46. None of my family is really into BJDs but my mom likes that I like them and helps me when I have sewing questions and my sister's don't get it but they have both told me that they like stuff I'm sewing and made me wait to do a box opening until they were around so they could see it. I wish I knew people who were into BJDs because it would make it more fun but I'm very glad that my family supports me!

    47. No one in our family, because my family members are so much different persons that what I am, they don't even understand why I like these dolls, but I don't even want to explain for it to them, because this is my thing, so if they don't like it then they don't like it, but I don't care if they don't like them because I like them and that's the point.

    48. No one in my family is :/ My mom likes regular porcelain dolls but she thinks BJD's are overpriced and doesn't get it

    49. My little sister (she's 13) has got a Souldoll Maillo head!xx,D :D (She is a member of my country's BJD forum, but not DoA ˇˇ")

    50. NONE. My parents would be certain I had lost my mind if they knew about my dolls. My Mom found out that I was buying them, because she somehow discovered my eBay identity and saw the purchases made there. She flipped out. It was very unpleasant. I am not a young person, but there are "enmeshment issues" in my family -- still to be worked out. The dolls are probably part of that process for me.

My aunt gave me money toward my first doll, and a cousin told me to "just do it" because they know I have needed to lighten up, and do something that is just for fun. They happen to be visiting here from another state when I was agonizing over my FIRST purchase.

    51. My two little sisters are more or less into the hobby :)
The oldest of the two (18) have a doll of her own, however she's not playing much with her. She's currently doing her face-up, which is taking forever since she's almost never at home and I'm the one who has to seal the head xD She was the first one to get a doll.

The youngest (17) of them doesn't have a doll, and she's really bad at saving. She doesn't really save for one right now, even though she knows which one she wants. (A twin for the doll I just ordered :3)

I'm the oldest of us three sisters (I'm 20.. We also have a big brother, but he's not into the hobby at all), and I've been interested in the hobby longer than the other two, and I'll be getting my first doll in december/january. Even though I don't have a doll of my own yet, and one of my sisters does, I'm by far the one who's the most interested in the hobby :sweat

My parents support us, as long as we pay for our dolls with our own money :)
My boyfriend supports me kind of. He says he's accepted it, but complains about how much I spent on my first doll and how much time I spend on DoA :doh

    52. Just me... so when I try to tell my family members they get very annoyed.

    53. XD
My mom is actually into BJDs now. but because I bought them for her XDD

    54. Me, my sister (PlagueBearer on here), and my oldest sister Melissa. They're the only people who ask for updates on the growing family of BJDs. XD

    55. none of my family into this kind of hobby , they said its 'waste of money'

but good thing they supporting me on photograph so i can always used the excuse 'model' for my picture and i will be allowed:)
as long i didn't mention their price :sweat

    56. None of my family members or friends are into bjds, most of them like them and support my hobby but some think they are "creepy" and said they would be affraid to go to sleep at night. :( It doesn't bother me though,as long as I love them I don't really care what others think or say.

      Linda From Wisconsin

    57. My sister who get me into the hobby and myself. We are twins so its not too hard to believe that it can happen lol. :)

    58. none of my family members are into this hobby, but i plan to drag into this my father and my boyfriend! XD
they can help me with a lot of stuff, fornitures, projects! i'm not very good in thecnical drawing, my father is better than me!
he could make projects and then i could work on them! *^*

    59. I haven't really told anyone in my family about them. I live with my parents so they're really the only ones that know. (My dad doesn't care about them one way or the other but he doesn't say anything negative... except when I put pink canvas shoes on my boy.)

My mom has a lot porcelain dolls but she doesn't get them... She's okay with me owning them but she thinks they are too expensive and says all my boys look like girls.. (Even insists I name them all 'expensive' or 'girl'.)

My sister has seen pictures of them but thinks they're kinda creepy, but overall admires them for being so detailed and lifelike.

    60. My mom is in the hobby. She is collecting pukifees and she has one minifee. Actualy, she was the one, who got me to this hobby "D
