The first thing i've done with both my dolls when they've gotten here is take them apart. I was interested in how their joints went together, and instead of just looking at them assembled and doing some posing, I had to look at each piece as an individual.
When my first doll arrived i spent the day just staring at him and exclaiming "wow you're so beautiful!" every time i looked at his face, actually i still do that when a new doll arrives
When my doll first arrived, I... Let him air out. Resin smell is so powerful! I think the smelliest one so far has been my MNF Ryeon boy. Whoo boy! @_@ Of course, I take the doll out and figure out how to pose it. I stick in the eyes and the wig, and if a faceup is needed, I start planning for it. XD
Yeah, I usually do the same, I really can't stand the smell and my room is not so big, so this make it even worse XD
opened my box really quickly whilst squee-ing. then ran up to my grandmas to beg her to sew a quick kimono for her out of a pillow case i had. other wise i kinda kept her in the box until i had some clothes for her.
This is my first doll but I can see myself doing this with all the others: I became nit-picky and started trying to figured out all of his little quirks. I would try to make him stand and see how he did, posed him sitting, etc. I would look at the joints inside and out, examine the face-up for how perfect or off it was, and then I would freak out about what I find at first then suddenly have this burst of loving everything that makes him uniquely mine I can see myself cross-examining all of my dolls for perfection when I get them
I was filled with joy. I was so happy. I waited 2-3 months for her. I wanted to open the box as soon as I saw it.
Most the time weather its a new doll from the company or a used doll. I'll take then apart clean them really well with a magic eraser to make sure there is no damage or stains then I string them back up and get them dressed and ready for a face up! After that I cant seem to put them down so I walk around my house with them. Or if I'm going to a friends house I'll bring them with me ^^
I was in he middle of taking a bath . But due to my excitement, expecially when it was by very first doll, I received the box from the mailman covered in just a bathrobe and shampoo suds in my hair.
The first things I did when I got my boys were as follows: FREAK OUT Make box opening video Post said video Dress them Put on wigs Mess with eyes Mess with joints Test out their posing abilities Take them on photoshoots Post photos Hold them while I watch tv, movies, read, and everything else. (:
When i got my first doll, I made sure he was able to stand. I put eyes in him(which was not fun the first time around). Then i sat him in my room, where he sat naked for weeeks until i bought clothes for him. During that time, I played with his joints testing his flexibility (he's an SD by the way). When i got my second doll, it was a school day so I opened her up with her clothes and wig but did not dress her at all(she's an MSD). I sat her down next to my other doll(her brother) and continued to start and finish my homework. After that, I played around with her joints, checked her standing ability, dressed her and put on her wig, and then sat her doewn next to her brother. There on my dresser, where they both sit right now.
Any time a doll arrives, I make a 'doll holiday' Whatever was on my list to do is permitted to be completely ignored, and I spend the day doing a faceup and making something new for the doll to wear. I learn a lot about a doll's posing capabilities by trying on their clothes at various stages of construction. And, of course, I squee every now and again, and probably have a stupid happy grin on my face.
...Had a little fit of excitement, brought the box to my room and clumsily opened it. (first opening) And then I realized what I thought was underwear was actually an apron, so the first thing I did after putting her wig on was making her a makeshift pair of underwear.
When my dolls arrive I quit everything I had planned for that day. Ok, usually I have to pick them up from the customs office but when I am back home I sit on my bed all day long, playing around with my newest treasure and taking first pics
when a new doll arrives I, - grab my phone and start heavy photo spaming for my bjd friends - trying different wigs and eyes to see which style/color is best - start a box opening thread in (sometimes )
When Cesavier first got here I made lots of ridiculous excited noises, stared at him, dressed him, undressed him, took lots of photographs and then promptly carried him around with me everywhere in the house for weeks. When Seraphine first got here I felt like I'd waited forever for her. I was really happy, couldn't stop smiling and laughing, dressed her up and took lots of pictures. I didn't carry her around all day like I did with Ces, instead I made sure to pose her with him whenever I walked past them.
...Skyped with my fellow doll lover BFF so we could squee over Elli together. then I just sat there admiring all the little details on her hands and back.
My first & only doll came with a faceup and clothes and everything, and time was limited the first few days. So I just took her out, put her wig on & posed her around a bit, checked to see how well she stood & all that jazz. Snapped some pictures, etc. A few days later, I tried out the new wig & couple pieces of clothing that arrived later, same deal. Putting in her new eyes was fun too Mostly just admiring her now & figuring out what she needs next! No traditions yet, as she's my first
I usually keep mine around A LOT, like even goes to my bedroom and luckily my fiancée isn't freaked about dolls so he doesn't mind haha
When my baby arrived I jumped around, opened her and didn't care about her prize anymore, because I was so happy to finally get her
When Mizuho arrived i opened her up, dressed her up nicely, and gave her a "welcome home" photo shoot
Faceups! In Christine's case, as she was the first, I started sewing her clothes first thing ... I had made a few beforehand, but as I had nothing to go by but factory measurements, they were hit-and-miss. Lauren was lucky to be the second, so she had an outfit waiting for her. I did make her a wig though, none of the ones I had really suited her.
The first thing I did was do a happy dance!! Haha!! Was so happy and excited everytime a new BJD arrived! Next came dressing up the doll and pics!
The first thing I did was fall asleep with him, because I'd been up all night with excitement the night before.
When my dolly arrived, I made a box opening video and took many pictures. I then dressed him, did face ups, and made more clothes for him. Next a friend came over with her bjd and we played for a long time.
----i screamed. really. xD a lot. xD i was so excited that i was staring at him, while he was uncomfortably naked in front of eyes. xD
When Yuichi arrived...a Neighbour brought him in, because I was in school and she took the package for me. I screamed happily, ran into my room and wanted to make a boxopening video but my battery went low after one minute so I dont have any footage or photos left of the boxopening xD It's kinda sad. So I openend him all alone in my room, talked with him and was just real happy For Naoya: I openend him together with a friend (because we ordered our dolls together) and I screamed even more than the first time. And this time I remembered to load the batteries to make a video xD
The first thing I do is get my best friend on Skype so she can watch me open the box and offer her commentary. Then I open that box as meticulously as possible (okay, so I tear it open) while trying to imprint the moment in my memory. When the doll is free, I inspect it all over and start testing out the posing. I go through wigs and eyes until I find something that will work until I buy the ones I really want. Then I set the doll beside my other dolls and just stare in disbelief for a while. Over the following few days I take that doll around the house with me quite a bit when I watch TV or use the computer, just holding it, posing it and getting a feel for it.
Look them over for any cracks or anything, stare at face and study details, and then fangirl. Then dress and wig and fangirl again. Then cuddle =^.^=
My grandma whom I lived with at the time picked me up from work, she had known I had been waiting for my boy in the mail and she casually let slip, "So there's a big package that arrived for you today.." I lost my mind in the car. Too excited for words!
I almost cried...XD;; I was so happy when I got my first doll I just fiddled with her tiny hands and she felt so delicate...I sort of just cuddled her... She was also BTW a naked headless body with well endowed breasts so you can imagine my parents reaction...Oh we got her head on eventually...After a long and hard battle... It wasn't easy okay? So after that I got her dressed...THEN cuddled her more.
was at work, and the mailman decided to be a ninja and not ring the doorbell and just slap the notice on the door. so when I got home I had to go to the post office and got there RIGHT when they were closing and begged them to give me my package. They found him and i clutched the package and ran to my car skipping like a maniac.
I jumped up and down and made an unboxing video! Then she fell over when I tried to take a picture of her for the first time~
When my doll arrived I was pretty damn excited, I was also at my Mum and Step-Dad's house as he'd broken his hip and Mum needed my support that week. My fiance had gone back home for lectures when I found out the doll was going to be delivered the next day so he stayed and made sure the doll was signed for. Then he brought it all the way over to my Mum's so I could open it. First reaction...a little blank really, I was pleased with the face-up (my hands are too shaky to attempt one myself) but I wasn't OMG in love with her. Once I got the eyes in and the wig on and some clothes on I spent two days trying to name her and once she had a name I started to fall in love with her sculpt and the little details like fingernails and toenails which are just so cute and awesome. I think Mum was more taken with her at first and she helped me name her. I had planned a box opening but yeah I just tore into it like a mad woman.
It will take me some time to calm down and then I'll stay with my doll for a while, at last, I take photos!!
When my doll arrived I..... Opened the box, put his undies on, and made some clothes for him while trying to give him a personality
When my first doll arrived I was at the university the whole day and spend my time in the informatics room because I had no classes from like 12pm to 18pm it was horrible xD Then when I got home I went to take a shower to relax before opening the package because I was so excited.
do the first photoshoot (if he already has clothes) If he doesn't come with clothes, or the clothes i ordered comes later. I'll keep him in his pillow and make him sleep in the same bed with me until his clothes arrive
When I have the doll in their box in my home, I start opening it, and then I took few pics of the opening, and then I took the doll, try their joints, try to get them stand on their own, and then, if I haven't got a wig with them, I start making it. Then, when the wig is ready, I start to look for some clothes for them, or if I don't have any, I start to make them. After all this I took few pics of the new doll and post them on forum and/or in my blog. That's all :''3
Wig, cry a little, sit them on a table, cry a little more, stare at them, possibly a bit more crying.
I get them all dressed/wig/eyes on (If I have them) and I...sort of..introduce them to all the others x3 I don't know if that's weird or not, but I kind of think of my dolls as an extended family of their own of sorts, so when they get a new member, of course they have to meet all their other family members Then they can decide which ones they like hanging out with the most so they will sit on whatever side of the bookshelves that their "friends" are on. I try to keep my SD and my MSD's on one of the bookshelves, and all the tinies on another, but the dolls basically decide themselves where they want to sit based on who is sitting where xD
I tend to open the box right away and look at every nook and cranny, seeing if there is anything wrong or whatnot. see if he needs a restringing, how they look. and after i put on some eyes and wigs for him an some clothes he will be my carry around for the day. so that i can see how he feels. and just look at him. then he lives around with me for a while and i introduce him to the family. giving their names to him and if he doesn't have a name yes i call them newbie.or a nickname.
I clean my room, make my bed, lay the shipping box on the bed, admire it all for a little while... Then actually get to work unboxing. I try to go slowly, one piece at a time, building up the excitement until the big reveal of the doll itself. Unpack all the little pieces. Unpack the full doll, gently removing bubble wrap and foam from all the limbs. Cue more admiration, studying every little detail of the sculpt until I just can't wait anymore, then bestow upon them all the accessories I've gotten for them during the wait. Then pictures, lots of pictures of lots of poses. Ahhhh my twins are set to arrive any time between mid-November and mid-April, the wait has already gotten to my head! I've imagined out just what I want their box opening to look like already. Might be a bit excited to get my first MSDs >.>"
Once I get a shipping notice, I set aside the things I'll need for the doll; wig and eyes if I have them (and if not, I'll try to at least find a temp wig and get the spare eyes out); clothes, so they don't have to be naked. I have a shortage of shoes, so generally they don't get those set out for them. When the shipping notice arrives, I tuck it into whatever bag I'm taking the next day (different bags for different jobs), so I can hit the post office before going home after work. Once the box is picked up, I clear out a spot on the floor in the studio, usually (sometimes other parts of the house, but usually there), and start cutting open the box and taking photos. Even if I don't post the opening, if I'm taking photos of that opening and something's damaged, I've got photo evidence of everything to send to the company. After that, they find their spot on their appropriate shelf, to wait their turn for aesthetic work. Though sometimes, first, I'll do some posing tests or comparisons with other dolls, if they're a new or unusual size.
Once I calm down and get them in the door, I decide when I am going to open them. Usually I make myself wait until I am going to have a nice bit of time so that I can carefully unbox them. If they are new or even if they are after market and have their original shipping boxes and materials, I will carefully save the packing and shipper so I can use them if I resale the doll later. I like to keep it all. If it is from an especially exotic locale like Russia, I will save all of the external packing with the Russian writing on it. Then I very carefully unpack the doll, dress it if a FS or if there are clothes then find a place for it in my doll storage area. If I am totally in love with it I bring it with me everywhere I go. Right now my companion doll is a Magic Mirror Siohban purchased here on DoA.
The first thing I do is usually take a picture of the box and put it on Instagram... I usually get so caught up in opening everything that I don't share any more pictures haha. After I open my doll. I will dress them up with their eyes, wig, and clothes and take a few crappy quick pictures! After that I sit them on my shelf until it's time for a faceup.
The very first thing I did was cut my finger open when I was trying to free her from the box. :3 Next, I bandaged myself to keep from blood getting on her. After ignoring several pleas from my mother to go see if I need stitches I unwrapped her and stared at her for an hour or so. Then I marveled at all the little accessories that she was sent with.
My first, and basically only, doll I got came in while I was at work. I got a call from the deliverers asking if anyone was home. Apparently my mother went next door. Then I got a call from my mother at the same time asking if I had a package because some lady was in front of our house. It was a very small run around on the phone, and I was tempted to leave work and go home since it was barely a block away. But the package got there and was in my room when I got home. Took some pictures of each opening. Got the guy out of his box. Looked at his free outfit and laughed a little since it looked like a "hobo clown" outfit. Once he was fully out I put on his cloths and wig and played with him a bit, but he is my first doll so I was VERY careful in handling him. One of my friends made fun on how he would murder me in my sleep. So I put him in a cupboard and ended up checking on him all night to make sure he didn't move or get a knife pfft. Next day the cupboard smelled very funny and I got scared that maybe he didn't cure all the way? So I asked the Instagram BJD tag if the smell was normal. They said it was so I didn't worry about it and just let him air out for a while. Kept the doors open. Once he wasn't smelly anymore I started making cloths and underwear for him. Can't be a hobo clown forever!
The smell tends to linger for quite a while! Although when I'm getting a new doll and it's absent I miss it. My latest addition is still waiting for his wardrobe which I'll have to go shopping for. So far he's been lying in his pillows and I didn't do much yet. But when his clothes are here, I'll take some photos and probably use them for one of the games threads (my favorites).
I always give new members of the crew a thorough check when they arrive, just to make sure that nothing got broken or cracked in transit, and then they get a quick scrub to take care of any grime or mold-release they may have on them. After that? Wigs and eyes, followed by clothes and jewelry... All of which I've typically collected for them well before their arrival, and so usually have ready and waiting to go when the time comes. (It really bugs me when a doll arrives before some part of their "stuff" does, so I try to avoid that as much as I can-) Only after all that's done do I feel like I can really sit down and start to play around with them.
I clear an area for my box openings. I'll do a little photostory with my dolls as I open the box. I usually check the doll while taking photos to make sure nothing is wrong with it. After or during the photostory, I'll begin to dress the new doll. Other than that, the new doll would stay with me all day so that I know that it had arrived that day. Usually when I get a new doll, I'm in a I can't believe he's here already mindset and I usually fuss over them for a few weeks.
I was really really excited.. I was really nervous to open the box because I wasn't too sure what to expect for the face up. But luckily it looked just like the picture! Then I tried on alot of different clothes on her to see what suited her best
When I get my resinsoul song, the first thing I'm going to do is get some clothes on that boy XD I made the mistake of letting my first doll go naked for a while before puting clothes on her. Poor thing wore a sock for weeks, but first thing im doing when his clothes arrive is wash them so they wont stain him. Also had that problem with my girl. Then...put his wig on and set him next to Lorelei so I can take pictures of them together! Faceup will wait until I can send him off. Also i will be getting at least one tiny with him so it will be given to my sister, since she want to try the hobby.
my doll is just a body at this point, so there wasn't any eye installation, wig modeling, or general cooing/crying over the face for me when it arrived ^-^ i tested out his stringing (which the seller had already informed me wasn't in the best condition), posing (average, will need to re-evaluate after restringing), and standing ability (fantastic!! stands like a rock). since he doesn't have a head, i've gotten to spend a lot of time critically looking him over without being distracted by his beautiful face. it's caused me to love this body very dearly
As soon as I get the box, I open it and forgot about taking pics until it's too late lol. Then I just admire the doll. Take her out of the box, stand her on my desk, pose her, look at every curve and line of her body, and just really appreciate the art and engineering that went into making her. Then she has to stop being bald, blind, and naked. Whenever I have a new doll, for the first week or so, I'm so enamored that she comes and sits on my desk when I'm playing on the internet in the evening. Every few minutes I'll pick her up and pose her and take a terrible cell phone photo and put her back down. With 2 of them the first step was to string them. Unstrung dolls in Priority Mail boxes are MUCH cheaper to ship than huge company boxes. I have a doll on layaway that has a WOODEN box. The shipping on that one will be a nightmare.
I carefully go through all the things in the box, make sure everything is there. I take some time to marvel at the sculpt. Seeing them in person for the first time is always a renewed wonder to me. The sculptors of BJDs are such artists! Then it is dress up time! While dressing them, I examine their joints, play with the posing a bit. After that, I try on various wigs and maybe eyes. I try to get a better feel for the character I'm trying to achieve. So often, once in front of me, they change the script! Once they're the way I want, I find them a place among my others. This usually ends up with me playing with my other dolls, testing out how they look next to the new kid on the block. Once "settled in," then I like to look at the custom forms, certificates and stuff. If there's newspaper in the box, I like to look at that too. I'm kinda weird like that.
try to get mentally prepared to pay for customs, fail to be prepared enough, try not to let the mailwoman notice how much you're crying inside, start shaking uncontrollably out of excitement, require help with the opening because of said shaking, fail miserably at taking opening pictures again because of shaking, put in doll's eyes/wig/clothes if they're here, cuddle doll until hands are solid enough to attempt faceup.
