I really thought this thread already existed, but could not find it. If it does, I appologize, and can you direct me to it? The question I want to pose is, in the first few days you have a new doll, what do you do with him/her? Do you have a tradition (other than box opening pics)? This weekend I got my Delf Woosoo, Caleb, and did something really out of character for me: restrung him. He was really floppy, but I've bought several used dolls in the past and never felt confident enough to restring them within the first few weeks. I know some people do this as a bonding act, though; unstring a new doll and put it back together. I have to say, I kinda see their reasoning. That, and it felt neat giving Caleb new strings as a "welcome home" gift."
put some underwear on them and learn their joints by heart ^^ so I play a lot with them and make them do lots of pose
Did a faceup, tattoo, blushing, restrung, figure out the joints and made clothes for him. xD (This was the same for my Lati K minus the tattoo and my DZ Mo minus the stringing.)
My first few dolls I made go naked the first day, so I could do that exact same thing: learn their joints and posing. I'm a visual sort of person; gotta see it to understand. Had to stop that, tho. Hubby gave me worried looks.
the first thing I do is attack them with a hot glue gun so that they pose better then it's try which ever wig and eyes I got them
First thing I did (after the box opening pics) was to dress them in whatever I'd bought for them, and put the wig I bought on them (in the case of my BBB Apollo). Then, I'd get to know their joint system, what the inside of their heads looked like, and how they moved. I'd then just kind of hang out with them. I actually didn't sit Stephen next to Emma until a few days after he arrived, just so that I could pay attention to getting to know the new doll, and how the joints worked, and what made him different from Dollmore. If I ever get another doll, I'll probably not put them near the other two until a few days for the same reason.
When my Kirill arrived he was my first BJD so I was nearly shy to open the box ^^ I was afraid to break him so I spend the entire day to touch him, try his clothes, learn how to use the joints... and finally take my courage to try a faceup (I had so much apprehension to take off the head! I thought I would spend hours to restring it ) It was a very stressing mini adventure for me 'x)
The first thing I did: -clean her -gave her clothes -gave her wigs -restring her -face up done my company so who da hell cares.but checks the surroundings -give love and attention -spoil the baby.
First thing I do is freak out cuz they're finally home :'D Then I put in the eyes, and then I dress them, then I do wigs. Then I do a small photoshoot cuz I'm super excited that they're home, give them a big hug and get them all posed nice and comforutable on a shelf
For my first few dolls, honestly, I would cut open the outer box with a knife or scissors and pull out the inner box. Then I would wash my hands and put on some latex gloves (to protect doll from oil and hands from resin dust). I would give the doll a full inspection for any damage or imperfections. After that, I would pose the doll a few different ways purely for inspection purposes before unstringing, washing, possibly sanding and washing again, and setting out to dry. A few hours later or the next day, I would seal and blush the doll. If I did not have time to wash the doll, I would inspect then put the doll back in its box and put it away where it would not be seen or touched. Now, I'm pretty casual, and my reaction to a new doll varies. I may rip them open then stuff them back in the box to work on them later, I may leave them sitting naked and blank on my table, or I may take them out and do a quick seal and faceup without unstrining just to see what they look like. Before I would never dress a doll fresh out of the box and blank, but now I almost always do that, even to headless bodies. I've had blank dolls sit around with eyes and a wig on. I didn't have time to work on my most recent purchase, a new body for a head, for several weeks (I still have not worked on it actually). The headless, unsealed, blank body sat entirely nude on my doll display table for a few weeks.
I toy with various eye/wig combinations (unless the doll already has eyes/wig for them, or has a set color & style). I'll face them up until I'm happy with the result. Then I'll dress them in all my doll clothes until I find something I like (provided they all fit, and they have a body). Most recently, however, I purchased two dolls and had them in pieces within the first few weeks. One is undergoing extreme mods on his legs (hybrid Soom parts) and the other needed to have his neck sanded so the head would fit (another hybrid) as well as several other mods I feel like doing.
I do a box opening. Then I try out their clothes and wigs. Then I stare at them in wonder Then I'll do a shoot with them, after that I stare at them some more and sigh. Then I sit them on my lap for the night and be affectionate with them (which to me is letting them sit on my lap while I watch tv, until I start feeling crowded)
I post my box opening on YouTube, then I get them dressed and ready to be played with. From there I watch movies with that doll till I figure out who they are going to be.
When Treu came home, he came unstrung so I the first thing I did was put him together. Which was scary because I'd never strung or restrung any doll xD It wasn't hard though Then I fixed him with new eyes and a wig and made him my boy
"When my doll arrived, I..." -opened him in the car on the way home from the post office! LOL! Then dressed him, picked out eyes and a wig and just generally tried to get a feeling for who he 'was'.
"When my doll arrived, I" - sew her a dress because she doesn't have one when she arrived then took lots and lots and lots of photos of her.
Do a box opening (also for comparison to photos I take some time later, yellowing and stuff, you know), take the doll apart and clean it so I don't have to deal with the resin dust and look whether I have to improve posing, prepare everything for blushing and/or face-up, if the doll came without after I thought of the character enough and make clothes.
When my first (and currently only) doll arrived, I was probably staring at him the most. He was with me about all the time the first two days so I always could see him. Got a lot of sighs and glances from the family for it. :-D
First there is a lot of happy squeals then a box opening and then cuddle time Maybe even time for a photo shoot if it isn't raining
uh, had trouble putting his head on cause the tension was strong. When I did, stared at it for 10 minutes. After that, snapped photos of him like a maniac. LOL.
...would take it apart. Mostly for restringing, suading, sanding of seams. But it's very strange whenever I get a new doll, It doesn't "Feel" like mine when I touch them. But after some personalization which includes: New eyes, new face up, new clothing. Wig tryouts. Then they feel like I own them. I've stopped doing box openings. I've stopped taking photos of my doll altogether. This forum is so big with so many dolls and owners, I doubt that anyone would notice anyways. The Doll arrival forum gallery is the only part of DoA's gallery that I look at anymore.
Uhh... well . 3. for my current dolls it was mostly learning how their joints work and trying out poses ranging from perfectly normal ones to bizarre to see how far I could go with their bodies. The next step would be sewing some clothes for them. > u>
I do the same thing - especially with "double jointed" dolls. My 2 most recent dolls have been a Dollmore MSD and a Honey Delf, both having "double joints," and I think its fascinating manipulating the arms and legs; seeing what parts of his body he can touch, what kind of stances he can do... ^_^
Basically trying out poses, looking for any damage or seams (decide if I want to sand them). I didn't really feel like doing a box opening even though it was my first doll, but decided to in case I regret it later.
Most of my dolls, upon de-mummifying and initial inspection, got passed around to my parents who are usually watching the opening process. After they've been dressed/eyed/wigged, I either sit them in front of me to stare at them or sit them in my lap while I watch TV/browse the web and play with their hands. And of course box openings
The first thing I do is play with their joints. I like to see how they work and how the tension of the elastic feels. Next I dress them. Then I deal with The eyes and wigs last because I can get a little frustrated with both. I have a tendency to pick the wrong size for both.
First thing I do is scream, open the box, take pictures, upload them while still screaming. And then, once I've calmed down, I start on the faceup haha.
Definitely unstring, hot glue suede (if needed), FACE UP! I think this is one of the most important parts of getting to know a doll! And then restring...of course.
I made some clothes for the poor naked thing and then did her first photo shoot. Oh, and spent a lot of time going "squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! :3"
First thing I did is just stare at him. It was so weird when I first opened Yuuto, because when I first removed the bubble wrap I could swear that he was staring at me. xDDD Then I carried him around the house naked and my mom finally snapped and made some pants for him to wear. lol
When Jasper arrived this week I was excited cause he was my first doll. I was posing him and ,I guess not paying attention cause he kicked me in the face. I hope later dolls don't do this regardless of how amusing it is. XD
The first thing that happens to a new doll in my house is an inspection. I have to make sure there is no damage. Also it gives me a chance to play with the joints and try some poses. Then we play dress up, try on wigs and eyes and clothes. See what works and what doesn't. Then after that the newest one get carried around the house for a day or so. Depending on their rank so to speak they may end up sleeping next to me in the bedroom. I have seven in their currently.
I examine every part, seeing if there is any damage and see how they pose and move. Then I take them to pieces, learning every part by heart. I usually wash the parts after that to get rid of the remaining resin dust. Then I suede them, if needed and restring them to fit my taste. After trying wig and eyes on, I do the face up, which usually takes few tries before I am satisfied. I also blush fantasy-parts (if any); body blushing I leave for later. Then I put wig and eyes on again and clothe then if I have their clothes. I also put on all jewellry they have. This all takes time from few days to weeks depending on my schedule in other life, but I need to do it all; othervice the doll doesn't feel like mine. This all is, of course, seasoned with lots of cuddling and bubbling happyness ^__^ (and few photos along the way for my friend).
Usually I try eyes and wig first, which I take off again when satisfied, because the clothes come second. Then the wig goes back on and the hair gets styled. After that it's different with each one. My first one Cookie was kept in her box for the first weeks and taken out for admiration at regular intervals until I found her a good spot on a shelf, where all the subsequent ones have joined her. My last one Evelyn sat next to my laptop for two days as I was surfing DoA, because I love, love, love the way she sits. She's also the first one who got actual cuddles. And all of them get their pictures taken a LOT and also stared at quite a bit.
I give them a heavy inspecting.. for just in case! Then if they pass (don't want to get attached to something that might get broken!) I dress them, put a wig on, clothes, and then a super (but uber gentle!) cuddle~
I first made him something to cover his man bits, then I proceeded to take him everywhere with me for about the first week.
The first thing I do is take off the headcap and look inside. Gotta know what's going on inside their head.
first thing i do is squeal with excitement! Look her over and if she is nude, dress her up and love her!
I also freaked out...since upon seeing the box it looked like it had been drop kicked, and I could see her through the box. But, then was wicked relieved because she made it in one piece. Thankfully!
When my first doll (Seraphis) arrived I had to go abroad for a week so I can only take photos and dress up him. I even can't put in his eyes But I was very happy when I got home and saw him
when my first doll arrived... I found an excuse to run out of my office earlier XD it's something I still do now, but I can remember I went home really fast. I couldn't squee as much as i wanted, because my parents took the box... but I remember I spent the whole evening combing her wig and trying to have her standing XD
When I first opened the box I started shaking and just stared at him for a good few minutes, but once I got over that I dressed him and then took some horrendously unflattering photos of him (when at the time I thought they were wonderfully artistic)...
I was so excited!! I jumped up and down and made lots of loud excited noises! I then dressed her, she already had the faceup and I just played with her all day and held her hand, she's so amazing!
when my doll arrives I take a million pictures and then pose the crap out of them for like an hour to get used to the joint systems and then faceup time!
Stared at her for a bit, then put on some clothes that my sister had made her. We then took her apart and gave her a quick bath before restringing her. It was fun and so exciting to get my first BJD!!
I grabbed the box, let out a squeal and ran into my room! (nearly knocking a painting off the wall along the way Then I opened the box and finally got a look at her face and I started to CRY. I was so inlove with her, she was way better than I expected.
I took about fifteen minutes to put his eyes in because the Ringdoll putty just would not stick! I resolved the issue with blue-tack, and will buy the white alternative at the first opportunity to hopefully prevent serious staining!!
cursed the bubble wrap that kept her safe yet far away from me for awhile, then tried to find her something to wear from my freind doll clothing bin until i could get home to sew for her.
When my first doll arrives I have start to jump, scream and hugging my brother like a pillow with happiness for almost 15min After I have growled against anyone that have try to touch or see the package closed and later the doll *3*
she hasn't arrived yet but I'm sure that after I chase down the UPS guy I'll freak out and try not to scream too loudly in her box opening video then I'll give her a hug and if her clothes has arrived too dress her up and take pictures to post here and on my blog~ (and then call my friend who also likes BJDs and tell her that I finally got my girl!)
I was at school when my doll so when I checked the mail room and got it I promptly cut classes and went back to my dorm to open him.
I "put them together" (eyes, wig, clothes) and then take a few "welcome" shots just to get a good portrait.
