What's your hobby obsession?( apart from actual dolls)

Aug 2, 2006

    1. My obsession would be dolls. I just keep buying them and my current ones aren't even all finished! :doh

And second obsessions: hooves, synthetic hair ponytails and dreads. :)

    4. I always love buying the fabrics for sewing doll outfits.
And the buying speed is about 10 times faster than sewing them.
But now I take a sewing coures, hope I can find the ways to use them.

    9. Sewing~
Seriously, I have a lot of spare fabric left over from making a hallowwen costume, so I really want to get started with making Doll clothes. (I don't have a doll yet, but that's besides the point.)
I really can't wait until I get my printer working again so I can get some patterns printed to use~ Or, I could always make doll-sized pillows >w<

And my other obsession, is Alice in Wonderland~ I may even make a Alice costume for my future doll~

    11. Well, at first it was wigs, but then I finally got to a point where I can make a reasonable guess about how X wig will look with Y mold, so now I only buy one new wig per new doll. I'm also developing a mild obsession with eyes -- I just bought three different pairs for my new boy to try when he gets here, but I didn't buy any for the new girl yet.

But the biggest obsession is definitely fabric, yarn, and all the materials needed to turn those into dolls clothes and accessories. I actually have the fabric and embroidery thread all sorted out for a full wedding kimono set for one of my girls (but I can't work on it because I'm in Japan and the materials are in America...guess I just need to start over while I'm here :p). Every time I walk into a fabric store I'm on the hunt for good doll fabric. I'm absolutely obsessed with finding the right fabric to make a good, mostly-authentic kimono, to the point where I'm considering buying an actual kimono with a small pattern and *gulp* cutting it up for fabric. Anyone who knows my attitude towards kimono knows that the idea of chopping up any kimono for fabric, even the oldest and most badly stained one you can imagine, has been unthinkable and terrifying until now, so that's quite an obsession I have going on. I have a secondary but related obsession with finding size-appropriate accessories like fans, hair accessories, umbrellas, parasols...geez, the parasol thing wasn't satisfied until I found out that the shop in Kyoto that sells human-sized paper parasols to real geisha also sold mini versions that were perfect for dolls. I'm STILL hunting for the perfect doll-sized obi dome >.<

I need to sell some... and stop buying!!! Also I want more shoes..... they are jsut awesome... and since I cant wear most of them... I like to have a lot for them xD

    15. Tiny buttons. I'm trying to learn how to sew, but I live in an area where dolly scale fabric is hard to find. Or any fabric that isn't quilter's cotton, really. But what can I find? tiny buttons. I've got them all arranged in a segmented box according to color.

If only I can start sewing the buttons on some clothes!

    17. *Sigh* wigs- and this is where it gets a bit crazy- it's not 'cuz I love wigs or anything, once my crew gets the right wig, they stick with it for ages, but lately, finding the right one has been a MAJOR pain in the bum! Especially with Morghan. It seems that he bounces from a very fair blonde, to a dark brooding brunette on a daily basis- a major problem since I only have two blonde wigs for him. TWO! Honestly, and I'm still on the look out for more... Not to mention my lati heads are particularly small, so I've ordered to 8/9 wigs and both were miles too big. If anyone knows any sizes that fit Lati's properly, let me know! In the meantime, wigs have become my newest doll obsession. That and making clothes....

    18. Used to be eyes, but I now have a few favourite companies that I buy from so I've stopped hoarding eyes (I still sort of obsess over them on the grounds of "omg tiiinny eyeballs! :'D"); same thing with wigs - my dolls represent a certain character so they only need one wig; it actually really irritates me when they're not wearing their own.

But, clothes. And shoes. From certain companies - the amount of money I spent on my dolls' (Both MSD's) clothes would have probably bought me either a mid-price SD or a Volks FCS MSD - and Michael's got probably as many outfits as I do. *_*

But I LOOOOVE tiny clothes and shoes. And I love trendy boys. Whoops.

    19. #1? WIGS. It's an addiction. Eyes come a distant second, followed by clothing. Shoes somehow don't even make the grade, probably because there's more involved in getting right sizes.

      But wigs?

Insert the chorus from the song HAIR anyplace in here.

Oh and muzikluvr, yep I get the Doll carrier one....I always like looking for a bag to adapt into a doll carrier by adding straps and such...The latest is so big it can prolly fit five SD's in( It's a wheely carry bag/holdall that actually isn't too heavy but a bit cumbersome- I buy that many black plastic release buckles off ebay...)

    21. If I could afford it it would be shoes. I do have more shoes than dolls as it is. Lately though i've bought a lot of eyes. My dolls don't change their eyes (well, one does... but the others don't) but I'm "upgrading" them to glass one by one, and of course I can't tell which will be the perfect color until they're here, so I have to get several to try! Luckily most of them are imperfect ones from DD Anne so they didn't break the bank. Also clothes in general, but that's part of the ongoing process of getting them all outfitted appropriately. I can't pass up doll-scale accessories, either.

      Maddox: gothic dolls

    24. Clothes! I love to dress up my sweet little girls, it's my favorite part! And I keep buying fabric and other things to make clothes.

With most dolls I plan on sticking with the same eyes and wigs, so unless I have trouble finding the right one, I don't plan on buying tons of eyes or wigs.

    25. Eyes, wigs and clothes. No shoes though. Not sure why but I'm like... totally disinterested in doll shoe-shopping. Each of my dolls has only one pair of shoes each and one isn't even wearing his because they clash with his new character/clothing style. u_u

Oh and I buy a ton of fabric and never use any of it because I'm too lazy to make clothes most of the time.

    37. Definitely wigs! I have two boxes full, in contrast to a small selection of eyes, one outfit per doll on average, and I'd definitely like more shoes for them. I love having the variety of hairstyles and colours, as well as styling the wigs themselves. Have probably reached critical mass actually, maybe I should try to shift the ones I'm not likely to use : |

    42. Since Emma's character is supposed to be 10, if I can, I'll look for MSD-sized toy keychains. So far, all I've gotten was a little car, and a Rubix cube that's probably better for an SD. Plus, I just like buying little doll-sized props. On my second order from Dollmore, I bought her a teddy bear, an ice cream cone, a little working flashlight, and some other things.

And I always liked miniatures. Whenever I see BJD rooms that are super extravagant, I'm always taken away by how good they look. Of course, most of these are for tinies, because anything larger would take more time and space to create and store. But I still like seeing all of the normally-mundane pieces, like the beds, the teapots, the furniture, and the random stuff laying around to make the room look more 'lived in'. It gives a little bit more of a 'human' element to the doll, and I find that really cool.

I'm also a fan of optional hands (though all I have is one extra hand). She can only do so much with one pair of hands, lol! I wish companies made more jointed hands, because then you don't have to buy a hand for a specific pose. All I have so far is a 'peace' sign hand that cost $9. Whenever I mention that, people get so freaked out, but I don't get why. Probably because I'm much too assimilated into this hobby to think $9 is a lot. Right now, I'm semi-searching for prayer hands.

But before all of that, it was pants. I couldn't stop making pairs of little doll pants - that didn't fit. Can't really call me crazy, since it was my first time learning to sew, but now I think I can probably make doll-sized pants in my sleep if I had to. But with time, and other priorities, I ended up buying her pants - which will help me out if I ever decide to try sewing pants again.

    43. For me it's got to be buying eyes. I don't even change my dolls' eyes that often, I find a pair I like and they wear those for a while. But for some reason I buy glass eyes with almost every order I make! I have a big box full of them! I just find eyes that I think look really cool or pretty and can't help myself, even if I don't have a doll to put them in.
