What's your Danger Company?

Jan 10, 2023

    1. Dream Valley. Dream valley convinced me to buy my first doll. I’ve agonised over multiple of their sculpts. I ordered one of their new naga dolls straight away. I’m not even fond of snakes. I’m waiting for them to release female giraffetaurs in 1/4 and a female version of Achelous’ mer body. Also waiting for them to rerelease the jellyfish girls.

Their sculpting is just so captivating and they keep making fascinating new dolls.

    2. Oh iplehouse is SUPER dangerous. I've had three. None have worked out, and all have moved on, but I keep getting distracted...

(also feel the dream valley itch, my next two will be from them.)

    3. Dream Valley. I refuse to even see their posts on their social media/visit their store since I know I have 95% chance of adoring their new releases.

    4. I don’t actually own a Dream Valley doll (yet), but whenever they release a limited fantasy sculpt I go through a crisis haha. I don’t make enough money to have a lot set aside for my hobbies right now and need time to save up for large non-essential purchases, so limited dolls just aren’t in my budget even with most layaway options. But Dream Valley’s gorgeous sculpts really tempt me to make some poor financial decisions every. single. time.

    5. I just became active in the hobby, but every time I see a second-hand Luts or MYOU doll I feel the urge to open my wallet.

      • x 1
    6. Heh heh heh... Have you discovered Mandarake yet? Dangerous website. Dangerous.

      • x 2
    7. */cough* or Dollyteria. Both have been dangerous for me with my love of Unoas.

      • x 1
    8. I did and it's been terrible for my wallet. I used to use Mandarake a lot when I was more active in collecting figures, but when I realized they sold bjds, too, and had some secondhand MYOU dolls... It's been dangerous lol.

I've browsed Dollyteria but so far I haven't found anything within my current price range that I'm interested in, so it hasn't swayed me yet.

    9. You know I didn't really have a danger company previously, since I always only choose sculpts based on characters I want to shell. But after getting a Lipu/Lapin head secondhand Birdcube tempted me a tad too hard by releasing a Fuguir head for a limited time. I ordered one to shell Curio so I could have a complete hero party for my MythHaven characters. One of those characters, Sally, is a Rap1993 Danni v2 that I'm absolutely in love with! That being said, every time I see those bunny girls I want them... and I don't have pre-existing characters to shell them as! Every time I see them popup on the secondhand market I have to stop myself.

    10. D.Lace. The artist produces micheangelo based and accurate dolls and my wallet is empty.

    11. I don't have a danger company, but I do have a whole danger category: small independent artists.

I happen to like variety of styles and types in my crew, and indie sculptors fit this bill perfectly -- a lot of them sculpt in the size I collect (1/3) and collectively they make so many intriguing faces and aesthetics. New indie heads are always popping up on short preorder periods, and what's worse, there's no guarantee they will re-release the heads or be easy to find secondhand (especially if the sculptor is obscure or not popular). It's easy for me to ignore whole companies and any of their new releases if I don't like their overall "house style"... but I'm always getting blindsided by indie sculptors and have to fight off preorder FOMO. They're all ganging up on me!

    12. Dollshe. I don’t own any because (you know), but whenever I see one pop up on the second hand market my wallet starts to cry and I have to fight myself not to do it. So far i have been successful.

      • x 2
    13. Yes, unfortunately I do know :') if ever you're extra tempted I'm sure I could talk you down if my boy is anything to go by. (Once the mods get to my marketplace thread he'll be one of the first going up.)

Ohhh no that's quite a big category! I'm very lucky to have figured out that ⅓ is too big a scale for me in resin or I'd be in a similar boat. (So many of them are so gorgeous! I still have a tinge of regret regarding a few sculpts that caught my eye when I first got started, even knowing that.)

I wish you luck and patience!

    14. I guess for me would be Volks, despite I only have one YoSD left in my collection.
I have lost completely my interest in Volks... I dunno. Perhaps I relate it to things from my past and also my taste has changed since I'm older.
Definitely, the company that got more money from me. Had an SD Mark, SD Kun, SwD Nana, few YoSD... Eyes, hands, clothes, carrier bag...

      • x 1
    15. Coral Reef, Dream Valley, Dollzone, to some extent..... Dream Valley is definitely the biggest danger to me of the three, however.

I LOVE Doll Chateau's general vibes, every time there's a new DC release I have to remind myself that I hate the wrist/ankle joints on their dolls. That's the only thing that keeps me from blowing money on them, so though it disappoints me a little, it's ultimately helping me to save money.

      • x 2
    16. Erm... probably wouldn't be helpful to mention that they're easy to remove then, eh?

    17. Oh noooo that hadn’t even occurred to me!! That’s going to be a bad piece of information for me as far as my wallet is concerned but it’s good to know! I guess it makes sense, but I’d always been so put off by the joints at first glance that I didn’t stop to think about whether or not they were able to be removed easily because I just assumed the answer was no.

      • x 2
    18. Oh, yeah. I have drooled over the y-body-06, and when someone had one cheap, I snapped it up. First thing I did was remove the extra parts to see how I liked it. It's just a couple extra balls and column joints. You don't even have to restring the doll - just pull off the hand and pull out the extra pieces.

    19. There's one specific user on instagram that yearly does a big sale on clothes, wigs, eyes, and dolls in her collection. I always end up buying a lot from her because the items she sells are very cute, reasonably priced, good quality, and she offers free shipping.

As for companies, it's hard to resist imomo doll right now. I've only ordered one doll from them that hasn't arrived yet, but every time I see a new doll, I always want to order them instantly. The prices are just so good and I love sculpted resin wigs.

      • x 3
    20. *cough cough* worth every penny *cough*
For U.S. collectors (or folks willing to pay shipping from the U.S.), Jane of Jane's Dolland does beautiful, affordable face-ups. Miko's face-up was $40.

    21. I don’t have market place access yet! I’m waitin!

      • x 3
    22. Volks. I started with Volks and I have this "thing" where I want all my dolls to look like they "go together" so I'm sticking with them. But everything is so expensive!

      • x 3
    23. K-Doll, Lemoon, SWITCH and right now... Imomodoll. I've been really tempted by the texture of vinyl dolls but couldn't afford a dollfie dream or Angelphilia so I figured I'd never really have one of my own. Then I found Imomodoll and this Christmas I'm going to be in severe danger of ballooning my collection quite dramatically

      • x 2
    24. ohhh i like a cohesive crew too, but mine aren't all the same company. I admire your dedication.

I can't judge, i got an imomo DaDa to be a friend for my Angel Philia girl and I think they're both lovely! (VERY different, but i have no complaints! They're perfect for what i wanted.)

      • x 1
    25. SWITCH.. I just love their sculpts. They also make high quality accessories and beautiful hand parts. My wallet is in their hands already.

      • x 2
    26. I tend to buy from different companies since I look for sculpts that match my OCs. But I am very attracted to WithDoll's MSD boys, and would love to have Kyle, Mai, and John to accompany my Aiden. They don't regularly release new MSDs but if they did I would be in trouble. If they were to release elf versions of either of those sculpts I would drop money on them without a second thought. I really want to see more new limited editions for their MSDs *cries*

      • x 2
    27. I love Fairyland, but I could see SoulDoll becoming my danger company - every time I browse their website I see someone I'm interested in!

      • x 1
    28. OK. Souldoll is a wonderful company, so let me just get that out of the way. The face-ups look gorgeous (never purchased one), and the bodies are amazeballs. Also, they are one of the very, very few companies willing to ship dolls unstrung to save you on shipping. Souldoll is great!
      ...
      Having said that...
If you don't already have one, I strongly urge you to buy secondhand first. When I got the Souldoll Kids Milky Way (casual) blank, I was a little - let's say shocked. The head sculpt is very masculine, and the head just looked enormous on the body.
I hate to say it, but I think it's the first head sculpt that I found truly ugly. I contacted the dealer, who replied with a "LOL - that's Souldoll for you." So, erm, apparently not an uncommon complaint.

    29. That's so wild to me, I've never heard that! Souldoll does have some... unique head shapes though, that's for certain. They've kind of got an egg head as compared to most dolls I've had, at least in MSD scale.

(Also... i really can't say i agree on the specifics, i love Milky Way's sculpt! I've actually been thinking about trying to find one! But, then again, Souldoll is definitely one of my danger companies, lol. See my user icon. Different tastes!)

      • x 2
    30. I have actually heard this about Souldoll as well. I think they are great with photography and styling their dolls. They do have big heads and asymmetrical, both of which I don't find to be flaws, but if you've only seen the doll in bulky clothes, the blank doll might shock you. At least they show the blank heads now, as I recall in the past they did not show it, so some owners were shocked to see the head looks very different from different angles. :3nodding:

My danger company has got to be Myou. I am trying to not be redundant and gather a whole army of them. But I'm extremely tempted to get my Chelses a sister or twin with every release. Not only are the dolls so beautiful, but the prices are cheap making the impulse to buy very strong :shudder must... resist!!!

      • x 4
    31. I don't own a full doll from them, but must be Alchemic Labo. I love the faceplate system! The cheeky expressions! The noses are round and they have eyebags lol! I love the fun in them! I'm not a fullset person so I love how non-pre-made and DIY they are made to be from the start, there's just something very... inviting to customise in them.

      • x 2
    32. Me too! I love her boys!

      • x 2
    33. Definitely, Fairyland is my danger company. I already have one at home, a minifee Mirwen and i am waiting for a minifee Chloe, a littlefee ante and a Pukifee Vanilla (which was planned to be bought in few months, originally). Then, Ciel Therian head came out... Couldn't resist to buy it... (i'm weak, i know xD)

      • x 1
    34. Definitely Little Monica. I love especially their limited sculpts with sleepy eyes or vampire themes. Everytime I go their website I start to think that this sculpt I could make to look like this character.... I am super happy that they are back, but I am already crying for my wallet while waiting for their Halloween releases.

      • x 2
    35. Hard choice since I've always loved both Luts and Fairyland. As majority of my dolls are from the two. But most likely Luts.
It didn't take me long coming back into the hobby, looking on their site and having a wishlist again. I've already adopted a Diez and now have Abadon on layaway

      • x 1
    36. Dream Valley and Switch are both coming at me lately xD DV's newer sculpts are so interesting! and Switch's recent releases are lovely

      • x 2
    37. Most of my wish list is Maskcat... I think they're everything I look for in a doll. I like a few other companies' dolls as well but never as completely.

      • x 2
    38. ...Mostly Luts. Lately Charmdoll and Asleep Eidolon have some sculpts that are tempting me everytime I see them. I have a mental battle with myself everytime to prevent myself from placing orders. :doh

      • x 1
    39. Iplehouse, Raccoondoll and Sartoriaj. I kinda read here that Raccoondoll and Sartoriaj people used to work at Iplehouse and left and started their own companies, well good for them and for me - three times more dolls in their particular style that I love. Also, I like Granado and Impldoll.
And I don't know if they can be classified like more a company or an independent artist, but I do like Pashapasha and Marmite Sue.

      • x 1
    40. I don't really have a danger company! I've discovered that I like having variety in my collection and I'm remarkably choosy about who passes the benchmark to get added.

I will say that I'm tempted by a lot of things (and I do mean a lot, as I have hoarding tendencies and a corvid brain that goes "ooooh shiny!"), but being tempted is not the same thing as purchasing outright. I'm also discovering that I'm big on hybriding, so I mix-and-match to get my perfect doll without much regard for company of origin.

      • x 3
    41. Joydoll will always be my danger company. I was narrowly safe with the current preorder -- the doll I liked was perfect except for one dealbreaker trait. But I love everything Joydoll makes, so I'll never be safe from her 1/3 heads.

JR.Schick too. I've been able to ignore her because she sculpts mainly 75cm male heads, and as attractive as they are I'll never play with 75s. But her current preorder has two very attractive guys and she's offering them in 70cm size for the first time... it's taking all my willpower to resist them! If she keeps on releasing heads at 70cm I will be in serious danger. :whee:

      • x 2
    42. DollsTown. The best bodies!!! also great service and great communication. And Seola has my heart.

      • x 3
    43. I can't buy most dolls new so that tends to curb that kind of thing. I really love the Ringdoll, Iplehouse and Dollshe dolls and I have come to like Minifees but I only have what I do from those doll makers because vs very generous doll friend gave me a few of them when I got stable and housed again after a long horrid stretch of personal disasters.

The rest are a motley crew of dolls from various makers that I picked up used pretty cheaply.

There's only one doll I still don't have that I really want back because he was stolen from me but when I go there again it will be the mini version of him.

I live in a very limited space now so I have to limit the size of most of my dolls. I do have a couple of SD sized dolls but most of mine are 18" or less now.

      • x 1
    44. Dollmore or Volks, I don’t have a doll from either as I am a newbie but dang…… they sure are tempting, I’m sure once I get more doll money they are bound to cost me lots! I love super dollfie clothes and sculpts and I love big dolls so the Dollmore Trinity doll line is a major want for me!

      • x 1
    45. Miracle doll. I love their face sculpts, I love their body sculpts- I don't have much from them, but I know that's going to change over time.

      • x 1
    46. Doll Chateau and Dollzone. I think what causes it is that with other BJD, I know I can probably find something at least somewhat similar, but many of their sculpts are one-of-a-kind.

      • x 2
    47. I have to revise my answer, although I love Myou dolls, I haven't pulled the trigger again yet, even though I still think about it and the price tag is appealing. On the other hand, I've brought a few Volks dolls home since then, and I just narrowly avoided another one :sweat

      • x 1
    48. I do like Dollshe, Ringdoll and Iplehouse dolls, especially the boys but lately LLT's Roderick is the dolly love of my life SD doll-wise.

      • x 1
    49. I may be too new to have a "true" danger company, but so far the ones where I've had to be careful not to buy everything I've seen are: Fairyland, Myou, and Charmdoll. They make such pretty sculpts!

      • x 1
    50. Dream Valley for sure to me. They have really beautiful dolls and their limited dolls are my weakness

      • x 1
    51. Chicabi and Dollzone. I'm lucky I can't afford most Doll Chateau. And, they're a few others I'm not mentioning due to expense. (So new, I didn't think dolls were that expensive.)

    52. Looking at my collection, it says a lot of different companies, but Piposdoll is my biggest weakness, right after come Souldoll. lucky both company don't release that often. ( the mini from Piposdoll are to small for me)

      • x 1
    53. Dollmore, Luts and BlueFairy.
New releases in some of their doll lines (Illua, Baby Delf, TinyFairy) catch my attention most of the time.

      • x 1
    54. Looking at my collection as it stands right now - Fairyland. Almost all of them are second hand though, event heads and retired sculpts (+ some lookbacks) are my weakness:sweat Dodollsdream is starting to enter this zone aswell...the only thing saving me there is timing/finances:XD:

      • x 2
    55. Undoubtedly Volks. Their grip on the market with so many offerings, services, the large catalog of clothing/accessories always available and always being added to, events, offerings to owners, physical shop locations, and membership benefits, is genuinely fun and keeps the hobby interactive for everyone.

      • x 3
    56. My danger company used to be Lillycat, but now I have just about all the the Lillycats I wanted. Lately I have been VERY enamored of anime style dolls. I keep an eye on the companies that make them like 2D, Imomo, Xaga, etc.

      • x 2
    57. Ringdoll for sure, since I just ordered another fullset from them last month. Something about the characters they make speak to me.

      • x 2
    58. I would say Atelier Momoni since most of my current doll collection are their dolls. I just love the flexibility of posing with them and the default eyes that come with them are so beautiful and reflective. I just love the pitusas so much. Thinking if I want to join their current preorder.

      • x 2
    59. Dollmore, those Lusions and Trinitys keep taunting me- and I must stay strong! I have my Illua Lillia and she's all I need! (If I say it enough times maybe it'll be true )
Luts, DF-H and Huajing are also dangerous to me. The only thing keeping my wallet safe from them is that right now none of them have any sculpts that I really need, and that could change at any moment...

    60. Well, my danger company used to be Dream Valley. Then they just flat-out stopped making 1/3 scale girls that are human/not anthro. And I haz a sad. :...(
Now - Impldoll, hands down. Love the price, love the sculpting, love the posing, and LOVE the new optional heel legs and hands. I have to avoid both Impldoll's social media and all secondhand marketplaces. Any time I see a new Model body for sale, I tell myself "You already own one you already own one you already..."
