Whats the most dangerous thing you've done with your doll?

Nov 8, 2007

    1. Both the dolls and your own safety!

How far have you gone to get that perfect shot? For instance, have you leant out a window to photograph them sitting on the ledge, or balanced them on a fragile cliff edge for a beautiful sunset shot?

Pictures too would be cool ^^

You see this little cliff thingy is about 8 feet up in the air with nothing for him to fall onto but a nice flat bed of rocks at the bottom if he had fallen. Also it was super windy that day too and he was perched on this tiny tiny ledge, but he likes high places so what can I do!?!

    3. Character-wise it must be to piss off Kefka :P
      [IMG]

But besides that, it must be balancing her on my sink to take pictures in the mirror:

    4. Pyrope: Don't you remember all the tree balancing we did!! When you recently got the twins? Probs got pics from that...

The worst thing I've done (other than carry her around by her head) is balancing her on this branch:

She's pratically holding on with her little chin! She almost fell off quite a few times :o and it's hard trying to stabalise her whilst holding Pyrope's camera!
There was also balancing her on the fence:

It's just the worrying moment when you take your hands off her and put both on the camera lol

There were more dangerous things at Pyrope's because I tried balancing her on the till checky thing for a 'monorail cat' pose and she fell off a few times, don't have any pics of that yet though...

    5. Haha everytime I pose Elk "dangerously" he seems to be okay. However about 5 minutes ago I had him standing on the desk and he fell backwards onto the floor (carpet) but because the radiator was near it ripped the magnet out of his wing again!

This was quite scary for me though (had to tiptoe to get him up there):

And here (she's not very good at posing so she collapses a lot):

Luckily I caught her everytime :sweat I should be more careful with her

    7. I did a photoshoot near a pond. . .It was sooooo nervwracking!!!

^ she is standing on running water/slippery rocks and there is nasty stuff on it if she falls D:

^ uneven rocks!!! She was seriously about to fall *dies* lol

^ wedged between two nasty dirty rocks and running water is at her feet.

^ the only thing keeping her up is her arm around the vine. It was about a three foot drop to a brick walkway :O

    9. I took a bunch of pictures on the ledge of a secluded cliff up here, including photos of him sitting and standing on the edge, but this less-dangerous one really shows how far up the cliff is :sweat

what you dont see is that he's 6 and a half feet up
granted he's pretty wedged up in there but if his weight had shifted? not a pretty thought

On a railing, probably one of the harder places to get him to stay... :doh

The most dangerous thing I do with my dolls is probably the way I take Pip on all my big vacations, including to Hawaii. It's way too much sun exposure and risk of losing bits, but we have so much fun.
Here she is at a lake in Washington.

What you can't see here is that this rock is trapped between others over a gap, so if Rin had fallen in any direction he was likely to drop over 6 feet to the ground below. And it was windy.

It doesn't really look like a dangerous place, but I took Alegro with me when I went touring around Philadelphia. I don't regret it. I got a lot of nice pictures and I had a great time. But! I took a couple pictures of Alegro standing on the ledge of the fountain behind him in this picture. Two teenage boys were skateboarding nearby, and when I stepped back to take his picture, they hopped their boards up onto the ledge and skidded across. They did it on purpose to scare me--they knew I was there. If I hadn't rushed forward to grab Alegro out of the way, they would have run him over, and likely destroyed him completely. Odds were, they never would have looked back, either. I still get this anxious knot in the pit of my stomach when I think about it, and I can't use those pictures I took on that ledge anywhere.

    21. UGH, these pics are making me crazy. I can't stand heights. The very idea of a fragile resin doll on a ledge gives me the shivers, lol. But yeah. I have posed them in trees or whatever. Whenever I pose a doll in a risky way, sans stand I use some fishing line under the arms and/or to tie the legs or arms to something safe. You can easily clone it out in Photoshop or some similar application and it keeps the doll as safe as possible. If I may suggest? It definitely beats potentially damaging a doll trying to get the perfect picture.

    22. taking a picture of my realpuki in a tree in Red River, NM. It had just rained and we were on a small cliff. I was leaning back and the soil gave out. I fell off the cliff and slid/rolled about 20 feet, breaking my 70-300mm telephoto lens. I'm okay. lens was easily replaced (managed to protect the camera body). Luckily I didn't hit my head or hit any of the trees.

so .. yeah. not going near cliffs any time soon.

    23. If I think it'll get me a good picture there's a lot of places I'll go and things I'll climb... But I'm a climber by nature, so I'm always sure my dolls and I are stable when going to any unstable or questionable height-ed places for picture taking. But recently my picture exploits have been on hold as I try and save for a better camera(Mine is now shot and can't focus on anything)... So these are all old...

    24. Not a bad idea, but not really feasible when you're in a public location and/or there's nothing around to tie the line to. Ironically, it seems my dolls are more likely to fall while standing on a perfectly flat surface than out of a tree.

    25. I live on the third floor and love taking pics in the sun on the balcony. This picture was taken with Barley standing in the flower box, it was windy and I was so scared that she would skip and fall down into the backyard...

    26. Actually I've done it many times. It can be done fairly easily. FYI, I'm a photographer by trade. I never leave home without duct tape, a piece of elastic, and some fishing line in my pocket. It's not so much about tying a doll to other things as it is tying it to itself actually. I use it to steady legs and such. The tension of a loop of something like that can help steady the legs and feet, particularly if you figure 8 it as you tie it. One of those really big rubber bands can work too.

    27. I climb and perch Wiishu in ridiculous situations, but curiously, the most dangerous and the one that nearly stopped my heart and made me rethink what I did with him was this one:

Looks cute and totally innocuous, right? He seemed very stable. Unfortunately, right as I was snapping the next pic, a gust of wind and:

You can see the ground is dirt. It wasn't so much the fall as the realization that, had Hero moved one foot, Wiishu could have been gone, that quick. Scared the bezeezus out of me. I still put him in crazy situations, but I'm extra careful now about securing him.

    28. I suppose I could have elaborated. I usually have the issue of having people waiting for me, so I have to quick plunk the doll down and snap my photos as fast as possible. And as for tying the doll to itself, that doesn't sound as if it would help with my Iplehouse dolls who like to stand perfectly fine for several minutes before tipping over, stiff as a board. But thanks for the tips, anyway.

I went to Sardinia and well there were rocks coming high out of the water so I climbed up and placed her down for a piccu
I was kinda afraid she would fall backwards, crash into some rocks or end up in the sea o.o
      But.. nothing happened XD
