What's the FIRST thing you do after the box opening?

Jan 8, 2012

    1. First thing? Feel intensely disappointed. XD; No, really. I don't like any of my dolls when I first open them. o.o; It takes a little while to get over that feeling for ones I end up liking a lot, but most of them I never get past that feeling and end up selling. Might be one reason I ended up with three of the same mold. I already knew from the first one I'd love her in person~! ♥

    2. First, I try all my wigs on. Then, I look at the papers and just stare that how much money I can spend in two clicks time XD . And after, I start sewing some new clothes - new doll, new inspiration :)

    7. As I just had another box opening this morning, this is a pretty fun thing to think back on~ This is from the time I received the box.

      Here's what I did;
      1. squeal at the mailman and thank him before waving as he walked off laughing
      2. called my friend
      3. opened my box
      4. squealed together with my friends while gushing over how gorgeous Seirei was
      5. put his eyes in
      6. dressed him
      7. put his wig on
      8. mollested him with my camera

      ... 8 was repeated many, many times. xD;;

    9. When I receive a doll, I have already created a character so I know what he or she is going to wear for eyes, hair, clothing and such. Characters are already in development once I order a doll.

Traditionally, I do a photostory while I open up the box with the other dolls present and have them all introduce each other. Meanwhile, the new one gets dressed :). Face up may follow later on. Since I can do face ups which are acceptable to me, I don't order my dolls with face up anymore.

    10. I STRIPPPPP all my dolls that fit their clothes and have a huge photoshoot. I text pictures to my friends, even though they dont care at all. I update my blog. I 'talk' to them and try to write a biography. It always changes as I get to know my doll. I try on all the wigs I own and see what looks best on her or him.

    12. Somewhat frantically fix them up into whatever set character I have waiting, usually switching out eyes, giving them their destined wig and dressing them up so they can be 'complete', then fiddling with them a little bit to see how far I can stretch the limits of their posing before taking a couple quick LOOKWHATIHAVENOW shots- since box openings just aren't my thing.

    14. SAME!!! It's worsened by the fact that I always buy my dolls blank, and nude. So the very first thing I do is a faceup, and I alway try to have/buy/make at least one basic outfit ASAP so that I can see if I will bond with the doll. I usually end up selling dolls that stay 'unfinished' for too long.

    15. First I take a few shots of the wrapped-up doll in situ, for just-in-case-condition-reporting issues. If the box itself happens to be attractive, this is a bonus. ^^ Ensure all the bits that should be there, are there. Shots of the faceup, to ensure its condition. A couple shots inside the head, too, to record any certifying markings.

Then the Trials of Unwrapping and Much Swearing At Bubble-Wrap must be passed.

      Then, much cooing of admiration.

Then, if the default eyes are intolerable, eye removal. If putty or clay, no problem. If Volks, then the Trials of Eye-Removal and Much Swearing At Hot-Glue must first be passed before suitable eyes can be installed. If default eyes are cute, leave 'em.

Then, dressing. If naked, a quick brainstorm through the clothing-bins, no problem. If fullset, thereafter follows the Trial of Figuring Out Where All Those Little Goddamn Straps Go and Much Swearing At Diagrams.

Then, even louder cooing of admiration, pats on the head, and a reverent placement upon the shelf.

Then, I quickly endure the Trial of Box Storage and Wrappings Disposal, usually followed by More Swearing At Bubble-Wrap.

I almost always bring a doll home at night, because I've received the package at work, so there's no daylight left for debut photos. An eager night must first be passed; if I'm especially motivated, debut photos are then taken on the couch at first light. Otherwise, I have to wait for the next bit of free time that has daylight in it (i.e. wait for the weekend).

Then, dollyboy gets his social debut DOA! :chocoheart I don't have a flickr or tumblr and I don't put the dolls on Facebook, so I like to introduce them here, where they'll be spending most of their time. It's usually a Gallery posting, followed by a handful of excited PMs to the friends who have been awaiting the debut.

    16. The very first thing is taking pics of all steps of the opening (that I always end up not posting^^).
Then I install eyes and wig and put clothes on if I already have them at home.
Then I play around with the body a lot and try posing.
Then I annoy my boyfriend for hours because I only play around with my newest addition for the next hours.
Taking lots of pics and let my doll meet the excisting doll crew.
Posting the newbie on DoA and flickr :)

    25. 1. putty in her eyes, unless it's one of those rare occasions they come pre-placed
      2. do any modifications to the face-up if there is something minor wrong with it (example: i removed the cheek blushing on my Peakswoods V.Goldie's company face-up and was instantly much happier with her)
      3. find a suitable wig
      4. decide where she will sit or be posed among my collection
      5. i didn't used to do this, but now when i get a new doll i leave her sitting naked for a few days while i think about what kind of clothing i want her to wear.

    33. First thing I'll do once they're out of the box is to check them over thoroughly for any damage etc.
Then I play with the joints, posing and generally squeal about how amazing they are.
After that they get unstrung, bathed to remove loose resin dust etc and restrung.
Hopefully that day they get a faceup if there's time, and clothes as well. Then I try on all available wigs and eyes to see what I like! Lots of pictures along the way.
New arrivals generally stay close to me when I'm at home, I like to get to know them :)

    34. Funny enough I just get very disgruntled after playing around with their posing, and have to put them away for a while to reprocess the wigs and eyes and clothes for each doll :p Then I set him/her out a few days, hem and haw, and then get over it and start squeeing.

    36. When my girl first came, I wasn't allowed to open her yet because it wasn't Christmas yet, so I kind of just sat there with the box in my arms while I grinned like an idiot and cuddled the box, while my mom laughed at how dumb I looked, haha.
Buuuut then I opened the box finally when Christmas came! After all the unwrapping and everything, I put her eyes in right away with spare unopened dental wax I had laying around, attached the velcro for her wig and put it on, and kind of stared at her because I had no clothes for her at that moment. I was then surprised with a handmade dress though by mom, which was really wonderful, so I dressed her right away, took around 20 pictures of her, and then just cuddled her and squee'd all day, then kept her by my side for the next week.
I expect that to happen over again when I get my next one. :sweat

    39. Since I only have 1 doll so far Ill describe what I did:

I opened the box on Sept 14 2012 and I was squealing happily. I unwrapped everything on his body (the foam handcuffs haha) And then I stared at the details of his face-up and I felt so happy and a part of me felt whole. I realized, Oh! he has no clothes (Only undies) He had to wait until Christmas to get clothes. Over that time I sewed a shirt for him. Now he has a full outfit and hes happy! ^^

    44. The first thing I do is trying on wigs, eyes, clothes ... everything. With Chris I got lucky and her default eyes already were what I had planned for her, but with the others I did a lot of trying and switching. Then usually a new doll gets to try on every single spare wig in the house that will fit them (unless I've got a special one planned for them, but even so I usually try around for a bit, and be it just for fun) - all that usually ends up in the box opening thread.
The next order of business are clothes. Either I'll have some prepared for them, or they'll have to play sewing dummy for a bit so I can make things that will fit them. Usually that means I take off the head to do their faceup (weather permitting) and in the meantime measure the headless body for patterns. :)
