What's the FIRST thing you do after the box opening?

Jan 8, 2012

    1. I usually set them on a stand naked and admire them. Since I choose my dolls based on their blank sculpts, I'm usually not in a hurry to do their faces and clothe them.

    2. I don't do box opening pics because I just can't wait to open the box. I usually sort out the clothing and wigs first, inspect them and put them aside. Then, I FREE the doll form the wrapping, put her in many poses and admire nude and bald. I then put on the clothing and admire some more. I just hold the doll for a long time and think of a name. If I feel inspired, I do a photoshoot.

      * Squeeeeeee louder
      * SQUEEEEE a third time. <.<...>.>
      *Check posing and generally play around a bit
      *Stick in eyes and put on wig, to get a more detailed idea of the faceup
      * Box up head and ship off to CloakedSchemer for said faceup (because she's awesome and totally rocks whatever I'm wanting done! :D )

    5. I make them stand, if I can. Sometimes they fight me on it and flop right over! But then I just fidget with them until they do stand. I pose them a bunch then I finally get them dressed and wigged. Eventually I do their face ups to get them more complete for me. I love doing my own.

      I also coo at them a lot and talk to them like living people.

    6. I photograph each step of opening, then breathe in deeply to see what Korea smells like (smells like glue, actually). Then I check the booklet to see if I finally got a doll that allows me to change the hands (still a nope). Then I start making doll clothes, especially cosplays XD

    7. I've only gotten one doll, and I'd been up all night from the excitement the night before, so the first thing I did was fell asleep with my Doll after I made some pants for him

    8. I had my very first box opening yesterday. The first thing I did was hold and admire for quite a long moment, before standing him up and oogling some more. Then I took a few box opening photos. Since I do not have this clothes or eyes yet, I couldnt dress him or change anything, so it gave me an excuse to spend the entire day cuddling with him naked, carrying him wherever I went around the house, like a new baby <3. At one point he perched in my hand for a good 2 hours while I sat at my computer like I usually do. :'3 It was weirdly natural and instinctive for me.

    9. this made me giggle XD <3

      In the box opening I do a photoshoot, dress them, wig them, put in their eyes if they are not in already and then admire them for a bit... then after, I tidy up the box and wrappings etc and then go about my daily business - usually, if I am home, I'll sit on the computer or watch something on tv or game - except I shall do all these things with my new dollfriend ^_^ If I am going out, and my doll is small and not very fragile, I will bundle them up in my handbag and take them with me.
      At the same time I think about their name and what kind of clothes they should wear. I usually get a doll with clothes, and if I don't, I spend the day making something for them.

    14. I look at the usual things like seams and the add-ons like the eyes, wigs, clothes, and shoes. if they fit or not~ After that, clean the table and find all the things I can use for the doll like cloth scraps and etc and lay them all out on the table. I then start drawing out designs for him/her.

    15. I have a box-opening ceremony, which involves heavy documentation.

      Put down the box
      take a picture
      cut open the box
      take a picture
      take the doll out
      take a picture
      remove packaging materials
      take a picture
      assembly when required
      take a picture
      Then I post it on my blog and link it all over creation for everyone to see. :)

    16. Ooohhh, I love just taking the time to enjoy the new doll smell, the way the joints squeak when they're braaand new, see how this companies resin feels, all new and clean without the MSC... Then I try posing, and things like that, and then if I have an idea in order already, I start on a face up. :3

      But not til I get my fix of the brand new dolly feeling.

    18. I definitely have to try the wig on first thing when I get the doll's head of its wrapping. :3 For me, the most exciting thing is to see if the wig suits my new doll and if it fits the character...
      Usually I'm in such a hurry to see how the wig fits, that I won't even unwrap the whole body first, just the head alone... :)

      After the wig is securely in its place, I unwrap the rest of the doll and then admire the detail on its body, and try a little posing to see how tight it is strung before I try any clothes on.

    19. I typically check out the posing/stringing of the doll, just to get a feel for how it moves and what possibilities it has. I also like checking out the details of how it's sculpted. :)

    20. I always try out eyes first and then outfits if I have any clothes that would fit them. I would like to have enough wigs that I could try those out too but my wig collection is still too small. I often restring or take apart dolls just to see what they are put together like.

    26. If I know wig and eyes and have them at home, I put them on. If not, I try on what I have to see what fits best. Then I dress it (either with clothes I bought for him/her or I see what fits best for the moment) then I sit it with the other dolls and I enjoy looking at an even more complete collection :)

    27. Usually, I experiment with their wig and eyes for a while, and mock-up some clothes for them to wear if I haven't already bought something that I know will fit. Next; I squee to my friend Hannah, the dear friend who got me into BJDs in the first place, and finally... just stare at the newcomer. I can sit there for hours, just looking at him/her.

      Though when Isryan arrived a couple of years ago, we watched the midnight fireworks together. He came on New Year's Eve, so it's kind of become a tradition for me to fetch him for the show ever since - a celebration of the new year and his birthday :XD:

    29. I usually leave dolls in their boxes when I'm not using them, but when I get a new doll it is tradition that they sit out for a couple days so I can enjoy looking at them, posing them, etc. While having them out I get a feel for their personality and can start shopping for clothing, eyes, wigs, and accessories.

    30. Play dress up! Any clothes I have, shove them into to see how they look. Then strip and do it again! Restring them if necessary, suede if I just cannot stand something. If no wig/eyes are waiting for them, play around and brainstorm for ideas and what they would look best in, but most of my time is spent playing with or cuddling them. Posing, practicing making them stand, finding cute positions they can hold that fit their personality. Sitting with them on my lap and doing something. I find it nice to just have them around. ^_^

    31. if the doll has a face-up/the company face up is acceptable as is: dress them, be very very happy, take photos, talk about it on flickr and forums, to friends, show off the doll to boyfriend, etc.

      no face-up/bad company face-up: alter the face-up and completely re-do whatever is "wrong", doll stays mostly naked and unphotographed/documented until they look how i want them to. (have done this to 3 dolls, 2 of whom i'm completely happy with now, 1 i am still working a bit on)

      if the worst case scenario happens and the doll isn't what i expected: it goes straight back in the box, and waits to be resold, i don't even consider it part of my collection or talk about it/show it off to people. this has happened to me about 3 times.

Sit them near me if I have things to do and stare at them silently in glee. Actually, I just noticed that's creepy O.o.

    35. I test different wigs, eyes and clothes on the doll, take a kazillion of photos and just keep fangirling the rest of the day and the next day about how beautiful he/she is ^.^
      And I ALWAYS let my new doll sit on the bedside table near me, so I can wake up next morning and let him/her be the first thing I see :D

    36. After opening up my dolls and the pictures are all taken, I usually then spend sometime messing with them, tightening the strings and checking out thier poseability. Depending on the character of the doll, I pose them with the dolls they know or are related to. If they don't have one or a name I usually pose them and come up with ideas for them. Drafting outfit ideas/sewing happens a lot of the time too. Then later I usually keep them near me or on my lap to fawn over them for the rest of the day, and possibly some of the next depending on how I feel about it.

    39. Get the eyes in and then stare/play with posing for a few minutes, then wig and clothes, then start on making more clothes! I've found the body sculpt almost as adorable/beautiful as the face on my two girls so far, I suppose I might be quicker to get a boy doll dressed as I might feel a little weird about it... or maybe not :sweat

    43. The box opening tends to be a pretty big affair for me, since I drag out my other dolls for it. It wasn't such a big deal for Meigui and Mogu, since it was just Didi. But when Timmorn and Rhanee arrived, it meant pulling out four other dolls. XD

      If I got to open them early in the day, I keep them out where I can see them. If it's later, they go on the shelf with the other doll's overnight. If I don't have work, I try to plan a second photoshoot the next day when I've calmed down enough to actually really see how they pose, and how they look in different clothing. The first day, I'm too hyper to be rational about any of that. LOL. Rhanee and Timmorn came without face-ups or clothes, though, so I had to get their face-ups done before I could do more photos. So the next thing I did for them was make clothes.

    49. Depends on a few things. XD;

      If it's a blank, then I'll want to work on their faceup. If there's already a faceup, then it's wig+clothes+new eyes time. And sometimes, depending on my specifics at the time of order, I could easily wind up needing to make clothes for said new arrival, or, in some cases, mod their clothing. And depending, sometimes there are photos. It bugs me when a dolly has to sit around naked and bald for a long time. Cloud had to, and Caleb had to sit around half-naked for a good while.
