What was Your first Doll? - Pt.2

Oct 2, 2016

    1. My first doll is Lilia from Luenheim, just got her in January :love

I got her secondhand which is nice because I didn't have to wait. The company is no longer active, and I don't think many of her are around, so I feel lucky to have found her at the right time!

    4. My first doll was s Leekeworld Rosemary! Got her back in... 2013, maybe 2014...? Don't remember exactly. I had absolutely no character or story planned out for her, I just saw her and went "oooohhh, pretty". As a result, she doesn't really fit in with the rest of my collection, and she is also super yellow because back then I didn't really know about yellowing or how to prevent it... Still, I love her with all my heart!

    5. Congratulations! I hope your doll arrives safely!

My first doll was my Little Monica - Little Harmony Bear, Wren (the doll in my profile). I got him in 2017.

    7. Congratulations on your first dolls! :dance

My first doll was a Ringdoll Merlin, he's literally been my one and only for almost three years and I still love him to death! :D
I just ordered my second doll two days ago and suddenly feel thrown back to this exciting feeling I had when I purchased my first. I almost forgot how much fun it is to make plans for your new doll while you're still waiting for it, so I'm totally sharing your excitement right now.

    8. Oh my god oh my god oh my god!
Can I tell you a very strange set of events?

So my twin girls are being custom made. I had a back whole story planned out for them. I wanted to also get them counterparts but finding 52cm and handsome was hard since the ones I wanted are discontinued. I settled on jacop or Liam from VITO line. So one day I’m scrolling through Den of Angels and I see someone talking about how they wish smaller dolls looked mature and i was like “pfft I feel that” so I scroll down the thread and someone points out dollnoize has 50cm, mature looking dolls.. so I go to her website and when I tell you.... it changed everything.... IT CHANGED EVERYTHING!

I had a whole new story for my girls and the males I wanted. When I joined DoA everyone told me your first doll is the most important doll ever. Oh my lord. You ever find like a piece of clothing or shoes or just anything that you just see and your body and soul is just like “this is it. This is the one.” That’s how it was when I saw the dolls. I literally cried tears of joy. For so many reasons! Mainly because I don’t want any too tall females because I don’t want any huge dolls. So any make to accommodate the height is a plus. But her doll is everything I wanted I’m so excited!

    9. I’m just starting out. I ordered an iplehouse bid but she’s still not here yet so while waiting I bought a Lati Yellow.

    10. Congrats on taking the plunge! :)
Technically, my first doll was a Migidoll Ryu head way back in the days when Ryu was everywhere. I never bought him a body and didn't realize I didn't really like the sculpt for years. I only bought it because it was so popular and I wanted to have a cool Flickr account. (Yes, I'm that old) My first actual doll was my Supiadoll Zion.

    11. Sounds like you found the perfect dolls to start your journey then. :3nodding:

Since I‘m still waiting for my second doll I can‘t tell if the first doll you get is actually the most important or not...
But I definitely felt the same when I stumbled upon my first doll, he totally felt like ‚the one‘, I didn‘t even consider any other doll. I probably wouldn‘t even got interested in the hobby at all if he hadn‘t accidently shown up on my screen back then.

    12. How’d he accidentally show up? Just skimming. Around and boom?

Hahaha having a Flickr doesn’t make you that old. Unlike my aunt who still had a hotmail or aol.com email

    13. My first doll - who I still own - was a second-hand DIM Flowne on a Loong-Soul body and I absolutely love her. I didn't have to wait very long to get her; coincidentally, the owner was visiting Mitsuwa Marketplace (Illinois, USA), which I live pretty close to, for a weekend so we were able to meet up :3nodding:. She's absolutely gorgeous and I was SO excited to finally unwrap her and dress her up. Her previous owner was kind enough to include a bunch of accessories/outfits/etc. as well, so I had a blast!!

    14. My first doll was Souldoll Ahee. I kind of wanted SD sized doll little bit more than MSD ( and practically any Soom doll would have been dream come true), but I had given myself a limit how much I would be allowed to spend on a doll, so I ended up getting Souldoll Ahee second hand. I think that MSD sized doll was a good fit for me, even though my hobby has been revolving a lot around making stuff for my dolls and making things for bigger dolls would have been a lot easier. Of course it would have taken much more materials so I am not complaining.

    15. My first bjd was a Minifee Chloe. I was first attracted to the hobby by the larger 1/3 sized male dolls, but I was worried about the size. So this was my way of testing the size difference from the 1/6 size I was more familiar with in non bjds, and I opted for a girl so as to have more clothing and styling options. She definitely made me less afraid of the size and my next one will be a huge guy XD

    16. My frist doll was a MSD Resinsoul Mei.. still have her bought her from Denver doll ..didn't like the eyes that came with her but she is still part of my doll family

    17. Mine is a Doll Leaves MSD Fei. She's probably the most versatile of my dolls as far as dress goes, but she's never strayed far from being a tiny, mischievous witch who enjoys playing pranks! I admit I got her in a bout of impatience after seeing so many dolls for the first time at a con, but she's been a constant desk companion when I'm working and gives me something pretty to look at when I'm taking a break.

    18. technically my first doll was a minifee ryeon...who then got sold to go towards the minifee kyle fullset whomst i got reunited with after selling years ago! he's 12 years old and we wont be separated again!

    19. My first doll is a Luts Kid Delf Hodoo, ordered last June of 2008. I have been eyeing him for a long time ever since the BJD hobby bit me and never let go. After attending a doll meet that same day, my heart was set and finally bought him the moment I arrived home. :whee: His sculpt at that time was underrated but with the right faceup and clothes, he can pull off such a mature character despite having a child's face.

    20. My first doll was an Orientdoll So Ji that my mom bought me for HS graduation. Little Barbie Kelly sized thing. Very cute! No longer have her, but the character (very different now lol) lives on as one of my Bambicrony Emilys (Emie!).

    21. My first doll was Luts kid delf Ani. She had a big cute eyes and I loved her, but didn’t know which part of my story she should be.
I was a student and saved money for a long time to buy her. It was so excited, when we finally met.
She lived with me for five or six years and it was a beautiful time. Then I fell in love with Fairyland dolls, so Ani went a new home.

    22. My first doll was a MYOU Wind, who I named Finley! He was brand new at the time, and I was the first person to buy him (at least on Alice's Collections). As soon as I turned 16 and was able to legally get a job in my state, I got a job in order to pay for him. He's what I spent my first ever paycheck on, and it was totally worth it. Prior to me buying him, when I was 15, I spent months browsing every doll I could find for sale online, nitpicking everything about their features or price in order to find which doll I wanted. He actually wasn't the doll I was initially wanting (I initially really wanted an Island Doll LE, which I ended up getting later), but when I first laid my eyes upon MYOU Wind I knew he was the one (both in terms of looks and affordability). In that time, I also spent months convincing my mom to let me order a BJD. She eventually agreed when I laid out the plan for her of me getting a job asap in order to pay for one. She was still reluctant, because she didn't understand why a doll would be so expensive, but it all worked out in the end.

I don't recall how much he was, but I think it was around $200? I remember him and his clothes were both on sale, so I got them both, and mistakenly thought that the free shipping with $100 of clothing/accessories also applied to the individual doll clothes, not just the ACBJD clothes, so I tried to get free shipping through the fullset clothes as well as a couple other clothes from ACBJD. Luckily Alice's Collections was super nice and understanding about it and gave me a discount on the amount of shipping I ended up owing anyway.

When he first arrived, I was soooo excited. I locked myself in my room and took tons of pictures of every step of my unboxing process. Something I didn't know at the time (because I had no prior reference point) was that he was suuuuuper tightly strung. I really struggled to get his head off, and sadly ended up gouging some of the resin inside his head in the process of trying to remove it (luckily it's not visible on the outside at all). It was also super hard to get him to hold any poses or even stand because of how tightly he was strung, he's joints would just snap into different positions randomly. Another issue was that 14mm eyes (the ones they said would fit him) didn't fit him properly, so for the longest time his eyes would look like dark voids in all the pictures I'd take of him because they didn't get enough light hitting them. I think this was a problem of eye sizing, but also the resin in his eye sockets being thicker than normal, so they were set farther back into his head. I eventually got that situation figured out, but like I said, the resin in his eye sockets is thicker so you have to work with good lighting in order to ensure his eyes are best visible.

He was also the doll I did my first face up on. I remember being so proud of my face up when I first did it, but after a month or two I realized that I really didn't like it and that it looked pretty bad. I wiped it, left him nude for little while, and eventually redid it a few months later. The redone face up is still the one he has today, and it's crazy how much of an improvement it is from the first one. I'm not sure how my skills went from pretty bad to quite good over the course of a single face up.

This post is getting very long and rambly, so I'll leave it off by saying that I still love Finley a ton. It may be weird to say, but he feels like a son to me. I have a soft spot for him above all my other dolls, probably due to the fact that he is my first. I hear about people eventually getting rid of their first dolls, but I can't imagine getting rid of him at all. While he may not fit the aesthetic of dolls I go for nowadays, I will always keep him as he is.

    23. Mine is Luts Senior Delf. I got him second hand with the company face up, original box, COAs, extra clothes, wigs, and a pair of eyes. I wasn’t planning on getting an SD size BJD doll anytime soon until I saw him… Everything is a blur afterwards. Dressing him up for the first time was so exciting and terrifying. But I literally ran to take pictures of him right after. The sun was setting, so I got the golden hour lighting and couldn’t be happier

Well, he was the first doll I received. I’m ordered a YoSD Dividing Line elf before him to “try BJDs out.” But because her shipping took long she became my third one lol

    24. My first doll was an Oasis doll Linglan i got secondhand off of Instagram.

    25. My beloved angell studio Lucifer ofc! It felt like love at first sight when i saw him on Vinted :D honestly im really attached to him he is so pretty

    26. Technically I had two first dolls as I purchased one but received it after another if that makes sense.

The one I first purchased was a Happydoll ‘Daisy’ in WS, she was a small chubby 1/6 with a slight casting flaw dent in her head. She was within my very limited budget and it was through someone here in the UK which made it all a bit less scary.
Shortly after purchasing her however someone else in the UK was selling a couple of her dolls including a Fairyland Pukipuki ‘Pipi’. I jumped at the chance and bought that too. The Pukipuki arrived a couple of days later so she was the first bjd I ever physically handled.

That Pukipuki, who was from the first release, still lives with me. She’s yellowed but I still adore her petulant face and incredible posing.

The Happydoll ‘Daisy’ was sold on, split, many years ago. No matter how much I tried I just never really bonded with her as she was. I hybrided the head onto a much slimmer and more poseable Planetdoll body which helped for a while. She was the first bjd I did a faceup on and I learned a lot of frustrating lessons through her, she taught me a great deal and for that I thank her.

    27. My first was a Souldoll Soulkid Katie.A — I was drawn towards this company the most and she was my favourite MSD they had. To this day, I still have her and love her.

I’d had some mild bonding issues with her at first, but it was less about her and more the struggles I had with finding time to practice face-ups. Same with sewing and finding clothes I’ve liked for her. Despite these issues, of all of my dolls I still spend the most time with her.

    28. My first bjd doll was Dream of Doll Si. I ordered him from their website, I think it was year 2009. I got him as Christmas present from my parents. He had company face-up. I don't have the doll anymore but pictures still exist. The doll was so cute.

    29. Resinsoul Mei. She was very cute, but honestly I wish I'd waited and saved for something that has better quality out of the box. RS has some great points, but posing isn't one of them, and I didn't have the expertise yet to think of sueding, wiring, etc- let alone know how to do those things (I still don't, except in theory!). I would later learn that the resin is actually very plasticky-feeling in comparison to many other companies.

My second was a Soom Rosette Fir, and while I don't have either anymore, I wish the second had been my first. Well, we live and learn!

    30. I really wanted to get a Dream of Doll as my first doll (thankfully I was able to get one soon after), but because they were a bit too over my budget I had to look for other options. My first doll was Dollzone Megi. I decided to get this doll, because it was reasonable prized full set with face up and I was scared to sew or buy clothes because I was not familiar with the sizes yet. Other huge thing was that I was underage, so I did not have my own Paypal account or credit card back in the day and I was able to use only direct bank transfer. I did think the doll was cute, but because I did not really have a character in mind when getting him I ended up selling the doll.
