What was the first sculpt you could recognize?

Dec 28, 2013

    1. The first doll that I purchased was a Bobobie, so it was pretty easy to pick out others from the same company and also Resinsoul. After that, I'm going to say I noticed Fairyland sculpts the most, just because they were (and still are) everywhere. I'm pretty good at picking out dolls by companies now, but I still have trouble with some of the sculpts. I find it fun to try and guess what a doll is without looking and see if I'm right or not, but it's just for fun.

    2. The first doll I can remember is soom Sabik.
He was the reason of me falling in love with bjd.
Though I do not like him now I still feel very hm... thankfull to him as he brought me here

    3. The CP Delf sculpts. Juri (all of them) was the first sculpt I recognized, because of her really distinctive eyes. Then Miyu and Lishe. Then probably Volks Lorena and Lieselotte. I recognized Soom dolls as being Soom very quickly, because I didn't like the aesthetic (and still don't). Unoa Lusis, I recognized her very quickly. Now a lot of times I can guess the company just from the aesthetic of the sculpt.

    4. Volks Nana/F-01, Luts Bory, Fairyland Chloe, and Migidoll Ryu... I swear it was all unintentional :sweat

    5. the number one easiest sculpt for me to recognize is crobidoll yeonho. i can spot a yeonho a mile away!!! it's just that mouth ;__; migidoll sculpts are also easy to pick out for me, especially miho, ryu, and jina. i also have a relatively successful time ID'ing supia rosys. she has such pretty eyes.

      this is a neat thread!

    6. The first head sculpt I could recognize was the same as my first doll-- LUTS Kid Delf Ani. I'd spent so much time staring at her that I could spot that head sculpt from a mile away!

    7. CP Delf Shiwoo. He was very, very popular when I first came into the hobby.

    8. The first individual sculpt I could recognize was Simple Divine's Thomas, as a friend has him, I recognized him before I started recognizing my own doll!
I'm rather new to the hobby and I'm not very good at identifying individual sculpts, there's only very, very few I can, but I've gotten surprisingly competent at recognizing company aesthetics though! It makes me rather excited when I can go 'oh, that looks like one of so and so's dolls' and I find out I was right

    9. Maybe Serendipity Sharmin, because when I first got her in 2005 she was pretty different from the other BJD her size. And Volks Kun because I wanted one pretty badly. I could tell when dolls were Volks and CP but I didn't know all the Volks names, but I spent time on eLuts back in the day looking at the Delf dolls, so I was alright with Shiwoo, Soo, Lishe, etc. They were all the rage back then. :)

    10. Definitely Minifee Chloe! She's just so unique and I love seeing photos of her and gorgeous variations of face ups for her! but seeing so many has put me off getting her :sweat

    11. i always notice Fairyland dolls compared to other companies, but i can always tell if a doll is a shushu, chloe or celine

    12. Iplehouse Claude

    13. The very first was an Iplehouse Mari, I believe. A friend just made me a description of a doll she saw online, from the description I recognised Mari, and when we went to check, it was her indeed !
Now, as for the more common sculpts and the artists I like the most, I'm getting really good at recognizing them :)

    14. Definitely the Minifees. They were pretty common, so I could keep track of which is which. And then I noticed Luts. I think that's because Luts is brought up a lot in Korean BJD community, though now I see a lot more switch, little monica, etc

    15. I recognize most dolls i ever googled particularly and almost all molds of my favorite companies except for those i find plain and grey
also I recognize the molds i used to see often even if they are not my cup of tea, like ringdoll pan or sabik or dollshe saint

and once i start to recognize the mold it doesn't matter what knid of wig, eyes or even make up he has

i suppose i recognize them as real people, by overall face expression.

upd: ah, and the first one i started to recognize everywhere was dollclans phython. it's not hard btw, there are not much molds with such eyeдшвs

    16. The fifth motif timeless! It's my favirote body shape that I've ever seen and I fall in love with it every time I see it

    17. I have trouble differentiating sculpts if I haven't seen a lot of dolls in a while. Also to me some of the faces in particular companies look very similar, if I look I can see the subtle differences but if it's not a company I'm used to it's all very blurred into one at times. (This is not a comment on the quality, just my inability to pick up on more subtle but no less important differences!)

I think the first scult I recognized frequently was the dz megi because I owned one. And it got pretty easy to pick out a shiwoo because they were kind of everywhere for a while. Again I own one, I love them, but they were so popular when I first started collecting that you saw them everywhere and you quickly learnt to recognize them.

    18. I'm still not able to. I cant understand how others can. I probably will be able to when I'm in the hobby longer

    19. For me I would have to say a resinsoul Mei because I had looked at so many photos of her before actually getting one for myself XD years later I'll see a photo of the face sculpt somewhere and I'm like Ohw yeah there she is ahaha

    20. Volks F-01 (four sisters) was the first one I could really recognize without being told what it was.

    21. Besides a lot of the more popular Fairyland sculpts, Dollzone Mo!

    22. Minifee Chloe - she's everywhere.

    23. Luts Lishe and El.
