What was the first sculpt you could recognize?

Dec 28, 2013

    1. Pukipuki and Realpuki are easy. Now I am ok at picking out Littlefee and Minifee and a few DZ 1/4. FL are very distinct to me.

    2. I think that the first sculpt that I could truly recognize was Luts Kid Delf Darae. I think this was because years ago, when I didn't have my own BJD and was only constantly lurking around the sites of BJD companies, one of the people that I go to school with bought one from Luts, and I kept on seeing her on my feed, hence somehow her sculpt ingrained herself in my memories or something like that.

Recently, I'm also starting to recognize Fairyland Rin's sculpt too. xD

    3. Guess the first one(s) I could recognize were the Kid Delfs too. Manly because I owned two of them, and later because of the "kid face" they all seem to have.

    4. MNF Celine I can pick out of a crowd, no matter the face up or styling. Dem wittle teefs :love

    5. I can recognize a Resinsoul An no matter how his face is done <3 a friend of mine owns one, so I've seen one up close and I find they have a very distinct sculpt compared to the rest of the resinsoul crew. Aside from that, I can recognize Ringdoll sculpts sometimes, but I'm still really bad at it

    6. The first sculpts I could recognize were Soom Sabik and Dollshe Saint. Now I can recornize every Resinsoul, Dollshe, around 70% of Soom SG, Dollchateau boys and Iplehouse elder dolls, several Minifees.

    7. I think I have gotten to where I can identify the JIDs Tatiana and Tania by sight, I have been oogling over them for so long.

Ditto for the SOOM Gena sculpt. xD

    8. Recognized Dream of Dolls (Homme Ducan etc.) and Dollzone (Megi etc.) models very easily, maybe because they were very popular at that time ^^'

    9. Bory and Duncan are the two that I can identify easily, and I can recognize Luts and DOD dolls from a mile away :3

    10. I can probably recognize the sculp I am most obsessed with at this moment - the DC kids. I can recognize that it's a DC matthew or Isabel. But that's probably easy for anyone because they have distinct features and unique proportions? XD? I just really love to stare at his pictures whenever I can U v U

    11. The very first sculpts I noticed were Fairylands MiniFee Chloes and Celines because of how popular they were and my friend had mostly Fairyland sculpts. Now that I have been looking on tumblr and DOA a lot more under the BJD tag I can tell the difference between a lot more dolls and picking up which sculpts are which a lot better over time now.

    12. I feel like almost everyone has a Fairyland Chloe which makes me never want to get one personally. I recognize Chloe anywhere and in any picture. She is the first sculpt I can recognize. So common I personally got bored of her. Although I love seeing how Chloe can look so different. I like seeing how a great faceup on a common doll can be so different. Very recognizable. CHLOE.

    13. Dollshe Saint! I didn't own him then, but once seen, never forgotten *_*

    14. The first sculpt I could pick out and name was a Fairyland Chloe. She's everywhere.

    15. For me it was DOD E-AN, Duncan, Petsha. Luts Abadon, El, Arwen, Nina and of-course DF-h Zhi-yan.
      And like others most of Fairyland after my first 3 months into the hobby ^^;

    16. I'm pretty good at identifying the Minifee Chloes, and I'm beginning to be able to pick out Little Monica's Sarubia. I can also generally tell apart the Iplehouse sculpts cause they have a very distinctive style.

    17. If it's from Volks I can usually tell right away. I still haven't seen enough of other companies to pick them out by sculpt without some other kind of identifier.

    18. For me it was the minifee Chloe , she's so beautiful and I'm so happy to see her everywhere :aheartbea:D !!

    19. The first doll I ever saw was a Luts Kid Delf Bory and after that I could spot him rather easily.
Now I'm all about Migidolls though and can spot them in a group in little to no time. :D

    20. Volks Isao! He's such a distinctive fellow. :3

Like it's been said before, back in the day when there were only a handful of companies, it was pretty easy to keep track of who was who. XD Even if you didn't know the exact sculpt name, it was not difficult to know the company just from the sculpt style.

    21. Most of the sculpts I noticed first were Doll Chateau sculpts, I'd say out of all it was Christina though DC has very specific styles!

    22. I'd have to go with Doll Chateau as well. Stacy has to be the most easily recognized I've seen yet for me.

    23. For me it was DOD Ducan because my friend was obsessing over him, and after that fairyland Chloe because I began obsessing over her XD

    24. Hmmm, the first sculpt I recognized was probably my own first doll! A Resinsoul Song. And I find that I don't really recognize specific sculpts, so much as I recognize different companies. At least some of them! It seems like each company tries to find a style, and then work within that as much as possible.
I could just be talking out my own ear, of course. I'm still fairly new to all this. :sweat

    25. I can easily recognize almost all ResinSoul sculpts (because I've looked at each one carefully), but I can recognize a few other popular ones like Fairyland Chloe and several Doll Chateau sculpts too, but the two sculpts I was able to recognize off the bat were Dollzone Anson and Moment. What I wouldn't give to have them!! :D

      Too bad they're discontinued, w-weh.

    26. I'm a newbie so recognising a sculpt is still difficult... But for some reason Doll Chateau stands out for me.

    27. The first sculpt that I could almost always recognize was Migidoll Ryu. Its a really popular sculpt so there were many examples floating around at the time I got into the hobby, and many of them had been customized to be very striking. It was the sculpt that got me into the hobby!

    28. Minifรฉe Chloe! Haha, I always saw her a ton when I first got into the hobby (well, I still do, since she's so popular). I really liked Minifรฉe heads at first. I still do, but my taste has since expanded greatly (Souldoll is now my favourite company *-* ).

    29. For me it's definitely Fairyland dolls. Mostly Chloe since she's super duper popular. I can also spot the smug face of a Joelle.D from Souldoll anywhere!

    30. Soom Laon was my grail doll for awhile, so I can pick him out of a crowd fairly easily. His eyes have a very distinctive shape.

    31. Yeah, I can usually recognize the sculpt if I've seen it or if it's a certain style, but I can't always remember the company's name. I'm like "Oh, I know this doll, it's from...um....UGH..what's the name of that company. /searches everywhere/ I KNEW IT!" The companies I can really recognize sculpts from is Migidoll, Ringdoll, Fairyland, Doll Chateau, Supiadoll, RSdoll, Resinsoul, D.O.D., and Soom. I might not know the name of the actual sculpt, but I know where it's from.

    32. I can usually identify Doll Chateau since they have such a distinct style. The only exact sculpt I can pick out for sure is Resinsoul Mei. Every time.

    33. Ringdoll's Sol. I don't own him and don't have plans to buy him or anything, but his face is just somehow very easy for me to recognize. He's very realistically handsome, maybe I've been somebody looking similar in real-life, that would explain why I recognize his face more than some of the dolls I'm actually buying.

    34. I could definitely recognize Fairyland Chloe first, since she's my first doll I have, but besides that I find Unoa Lusis to be very distinctive. :)

    35. well the first dolls i could recognize was from fairylands mostly cause most of my collection built on them and then volks dolls luna kurumi and mami they were my earlies to recognize huum now switch dolls for now i can really tell what sculpt they are which quite amusing

    36. For me, I learned all of the Dream of Doll SD size sculpts very fast because I looked at the website constantly. But I remember the first sculpt that wasn't DoD that I recognized was the Senior Delf Lishe.

    37. Most recognized for me is Minifee Chloe and Celine :3

    38. Oh hmm... I think it was Minifee Mirwen. I think she was the very first doll I ever thought about buying. I didn't buy her but I remember looking up pictures of her. Since its been a few years now and I love a doll from almost every company, I can tell which company a doll *probably* comes from even if I don't know the sculpt.

    39. doll chateau

    40. Fairyland dolls I don't own any but i see them so much I'm starting to identify the sculpts even if they are modded

    41. Probably Fairyland's Chloe was the first. Or just Fairyland in general, but once a couple years ago and an anime convention I was able to recognize that the doll someone was holding was an Iplehouse.

    42. I can recognize a lot of Luts, Soom, Iplehouse, DOD, Volks too >.< but I usually can't name the doll.
My first ones I could recognize was Luts probably though, because it was the first site I found BJD

    43. The first sculpt that I could recognize immediately was DOD Shall! I used to look at pictures of her all the time the year I learned of BJDs in highschool... eight years ago o___O holy crap time flies! So yeah, I would be looking at BJDs and instantly recognize her, totally saved a buncha pics of that sculpt way back then.

In terms of general "Oh-that-sculpt-is-from-that-company" recognition, I sometimes confuse the realistic-looking Soom faces for Iplehouse and vice-versa. Fairyland is pretty easy to recognize for me, since a lot of their faces share similar elements and they're posted a lot to be viewed. Doll Chateau bodies are the easiest to recognize for me, because they got some weirdo jointing (extra wrist joints, neck joints, ankle joints) and gangly look that make them distinctive... plus, I own one! Also, I think Dollpamm faces are very easy to recognize, because they have a pretty distinctive plumpy style to them.

But a lot of face sculpts look very similar to me, where I can't really look at it and go "that's from Company X". I wonder if people who can instantly recognize them either have a more discerning eye for common company styles, or know from pure memorization!

    44. I don't remember what the first sculpt was that i recognized, but I always recognize an Iplehouse doll.

    45. Switch most definitely, it's those lips I'm telling you.

    46. ResinSoul Mei, because shes my first doll hahah

    47. Definitely Dollstown Elysia! After looking at a lot of dolls and buying a few others she was my big want with a special faceup. Still can recognize tat sculpt a mile away! Probably my favorite doll over the years! Also the one I redress the most.

    48. Fairyland Pong. No other doll has that happy face.

    49. Iplehouse Eva as I adore her and she was my first bjd. I have a hard time with many even with dolls I own as dolls can look so different with different faceups.

    50. Minifee Chloe! Lol I'm sure she's been mentioned in this thread a million times xD

    51. Dollshe Saint , I love the guy to bits .
He is my grail doll , I wish I could get him but I'm just broke which is so sad D:

    52. Funny, I had never been able to recognize a sculpt until this week! I got my first head recently, and when I saw a picture on instagram I immediately realized it was mine! I think it's really hard to recognize them though, it seems I can only do it until I can see the 3D version, kudos to all the people who don't need to!

    53. I recognize Iplehouse and most Fairyland dolls because they are so distinctive. I also recognize dolls from 5 Star because that's my favorite company and I have several of their dolls. The dolls from most other companies still all look the same to me.

    54. The first sculpt I could recognize is Doll Chateau Queena, because she's the doll my boyfriend has. Other than her, I can recognize Fairyland pukis and Lati's white and yellow lines. I think I'm able to recognize Iplehouse for the most part as well.

    55. After scorching the Internet I can recognise Xue from Resinsoul and other from Resinsoul, but I think the first sculpts I could recognise immediately were Iplehouse Ashanti and Iplehouse Asa.

    56. I was first exposed to Fairyland, thus--- I was able to recognize fairyland the easiest at first.
As I dwelled more and more, the next most recognizable company for me was Resinsoul/bobobie. I have thought about ordering one of their dolls, but ended up getting a Doll Love doll.

    57. MNF Chloe. She's the one that got me into this hobby. I found her incredibly stunning.

    58. I've gotten so much better at recognizing different sculpts, but the first one I could recognize was Unoa Lusis.

    59. I can recognize Minifees, Resinsoul and Immortality of Soul sculpts since I often viewed this sites when I was looking for my first doll.

    60. Dream Of Doll Luke. I'm sure the first BJD I came across was a DoD and I googled the company and for some reason I kept forgetting their names but Luke always stuck with me.
