What unique features of a doll do you adore?

Sep 1, 2021

    1. I know there's the more general things like "cute expression", "adorable proportions", and while those preferences are all well and good I LOVE seeing super unique features on dolls! Centaur body? Amazing! Claws? Stunning! What don't you see very often on dolls that you love?

    2. its becoming more and more common now but i love dolls with well sculpted double joints, i like more natural posing and double joints allow for that, also fangs,,,fangs are adorable two of my dolls have little fangs.

      • x 5
    3. Pointy teefs! They can range from cute to cool to creepy depending on the doll and I love them for it. :3

      • x 5
    4. Elf ears! Any and all kinds I guess based off my current collection but I was really into the minimal elf ears that looked more like the ears from Lord of the Rings or Vulcans in Star Trek.

      • x 6
    5. I'm a big fan of wings or extra eyes >.> general monstrous looks are neat too. If I were any good at sculpting I would be modding more often xD

      • x 5
    6. Am I commenting on my own thread? Yes. I wings and horns on my dolls! Tails and fangs can be cute as well, but I love fantasy style dolls more than anything

      • x 5
    7. I love when they’re sculpted with eye bags :D or eyes that are droopy (they look sad but also automatically give the doll a very kind/soft look)!

      • x 6
    8. ..its gonna sound odd, but a nice jawline. I dislike dolls with weak jawlines, I just can't find myself purchasing them. I melt for a nice jawline. It doesn't have to be strong, but just realistic and not like an 'anime' doll

      • x 7
    9. Centaur bodies. I only have one but she’s great. No more shoes! Or pants!

      • x 6
    10. Varied elf and fantasy ears! I have a Gem of Doll Capricorn with goat ears to match her twirly horns, and a Soom fairy with droopy ears. I have several dolls with wings, another feature I love. Though I think I have enough winged dolls, I have more with pointy ears on my wish list.

      • x 3
    11. Are animal ears ok? I legit had my Lati Yellow obsession start from someone on Instagram making their Lati into a squirrel. Cat ears are ok, but Bear ears?! Goat ears and horns!!

I just go nuts for tiny animals now lmao

    12. My pukipuki pongpong, my favorite doll, has a little teeth almost not noticiable, as if she was a baby vampire with the fangs growing. Its so damn cute!

      • x 2
    13. It’s been said but pointy teefs. And elf ears. I will jump at the opportunity for them.

I have more Vic heads than necessary lol.

      • x 2
    14. Big ugly noses! Button noses and ski slopes might be generally more aesthetically pleasing to most, but I like some realism in my dolls--I don't want a crew of super models, I want a group of "normal" characters.

      • x 8
    15. Skeleton dolls, dolls with exposed bone or muscle and scarring, and cyborg dollies! There can never be too many. Especially cyborg dolls. Dlace is the only company I can think of with cyborg dolls atm.

    16. My sell point is...

      Nose.

It gives personality to the face and usually companies or artists don't really focus on it, but more on the shapes of the eyes.

      • x 7
    17. I love a sculpt with teeth, smiles, and winking eyes.

      • x 3
    18. Long droopy elf ears, wing ears, and fluffy ears! Changeable mouth parts. Swivel thigh joints. And I'm probably in the minority on this one but I love me some big bobble heads!

    19. I'm always searching for bodies that are very stylized, but lately I find myself especially attracted to bulky hands, wrists and forearms. I like chunky legs and ankles too... I know some people hate this look and call it "cankles" but it's a super popular style in illustration and cartooning and I think it's underutilized in dolls. Thankfully Guardlove's recent release actually recreated this look perfectly!

As for facial features... Buck/snaggly teeth, unique nose shapes, big/prominent ears, wide or large mouths. :3nodding:

    20. I’m a huge fan of fantasy dolls! Anything that has different ears, wings, or hooves. Usually what draws me to a doll though is the eyes. I love big ol’ cute eyes! :) My current obsession is my Soom Mylo. She so stinking cute! <3
I would love a cute little fanged teef doll at some point but finding one I want has proven difficult so far. XD No clue what size I want to go for.

    21. Stylized body sculpts. Not too cartoony and not too realistic. The dolls I like in this style are still out of my budget but I love seeing pics from different owners.

    22. I really love broad noses. You don’t see them super often in the slim-mini size I collect, but when I do, it’s :D:D

    23. Cute dogpaws as hands. Like soom Feny and Necy. They are soooooo cute. Especially if they add the little 'beans' on the fingers and toes. Love it.

I also have a doll body (Illusion Spirit 70cm) that is very detailled. And I mean very, very detailed. Muscles, veins, indents on the ribs, calves with veins, hand and feet with lots of details, ... I hate the body because it's big, heavy, hard to pose and I barely can make clothing fit him. But oh my, the realistic details are stunning!!! You don't see them much on dolls.

    24. I adore elf ears. It gives any sculpt a really sweet expression.
I would also say bigger noses in dolls. It makes them look more natural and gives them personality. :)

    25. Bishounen. I love the pretty boys. Fantasy traits are also awesome. I just received my Loong Soul Black Dragon. He has wings, horns, tail, claws, the whole deal.

      • x 3
    26. I love big ears, especially fantasy ones but I wouldn't turn down some larger realistic ears either. This is especially true for younger looking dolls.
I also love when a dolls bone structure is visible in a sculpt, spine, shoulder blades, hip bones, ribs, count me in please.

      • x 3
    27. Something I’ve noticed in my own collection is that I absolutely adore any odd fantasy bits added to otherwise normal dolls…horns, antlers, animal ears, wings, flower parts, twigs, leaves. It’s obviously all about the fairytale elements for me, and ordinary reality doesn’t stand a chance around here!;)

    28. I love fantasy dolls, the more unique the better. I'm pining for a centaur/unicorn, but it just hasn't happened yet. I'm waiting on my Miracle Doll Maoyou and I'm so excited for her. She's got such a unique face and I love how they sculpted her body!

      • x 2
    29. Open mouths with sharp teeth! I love smirks too, especially on boys! I also love any long ears that resemble a cow's ears, which is somewhat rare, lol :love

    30. open mouth with sharp teeth is EXACTLY what inspired the doll I'm sculpting. It's just so cute! I saw one doll with it and I just had to make my own

      • x 1
    31. Dolls that look grumpy or like they are pouting

      • x 2
    32. I'm especially drawn to natural smiles with teeth showing. I have a few of these. I also love my Angel of Dream Hui Xiang for her smile, but also her cute pregnant belly. I like anthros with magnetic critter ears, so they can point in different directions. On the other hand, sulky expressions can be fun too.

    33. I love things like siren ears and wing headparts! I'm still searching for some original wing headparts for my doll, but I think they look gorgeous. I was never so much a fan of horns but other kind of fantasy hear or ear parts are a really nice touch for me.

      • x 2
    34. I love super long, graceful fingers! Especially ones with sharp, sculpted nails on the ends. It's sad, because most of the ones I see are too stumpy/sausage-y for my liking. I have a thing for hands that look like they would shred somebody. My current favorites are the Souldoll Zenith girl hands

    35. I do actually love dolls with two pairs of eyes! Unfortunately, I haven't seen many human sculpts with this feature - only a few spider-like sculpts here and there :sweat

    36. Perhaps more specific than you were asking....but I have a doll that has the last vertebrae at the base of his neck sculpted. Just that little bump before his shoulders. Not to say that no other dolls have this, but I just find his particularly beautiful. It's honestly one of my favorite things about the doll. It has so much grace and character in that one little detail? A slender figure, his head slightly bowed. I adore it. :chocoheart

    37. I love thin and wide eyes for dolls. I like fantasy concepts such as wings, mermaids, dragons, or something antique. I especially like dolls with fangs and always make their concepts into dragons. Using multiple colours for their makeup or eyes is my best favour. :love

    38. I love....
      • Prominent cheekbones. A good, strong face with such features is highly enhanced by them. I especially love a good female sculpt with chiseled facial features in that aspect.
      • Longer faces with unique/prominent features. A nose with character, furrow to the brow, a strong or pointed chin—a good face has a personality to it.
      • Narrow eyes. Slanted, puckered in cheer, slyly attached to a smirk—the most attractive eyes are the ones that aren't large, doe-eyed and naive. Eyes with intelligence flickering within, a sense of experience—that's an attractive feature to me.
      • Faces with maturity. It ties in with a lot of the other aforementioned features. I'm not interested in naive, doe-eyed waifs—I much prefer some good, strong mature features that speak to living experience, a sense of confidence and power, or sassy seduction.
      • Elf ears. I'm a sucker for them. One portion of my crew is devoted to a particular story-line in a universe with humanoids with elfish ears. Even outside that though, I just love the whimsical, almost otherworldly effect of elvish ears in the variety that exist in the hobby.
      • Realistic bjd cats with extreme poseabilty. Points if they come with raven-eque wings. Bat wings are okay, but I'm enamored with the more delicate appeal of slender bird wings sprouting from the back of a feline form. Some day I hope to get my hands on just such a winged cat. :kitty2

    39. For me, it's something in the eyes that I would not know how to describe. I don't like them too big, but they just have a "feeling" to them, IDK.

      I also like good cheekbones!

    40. When it comes to what I really love in a doll,,, Teeth! Out of all the dolls I've seen, the ones that have teeth just have a special place in my heart.Vampire teeth especially !

      • x 3
    41. i love monster like dolls that still retain a human look to them, things like multiple eyes, double or back to back heads, claws, fangs, tails, funky ears with intricate monster like detailed paint, dolls with well sculpted replaceable mouth pieces are nice too and not scene often

      • x 5
    42. I like fantasy. Such as elven ears, animal legs, etc. They will have a different kind of beauty. Now, more and more types are coming.

      • x 1
    43. LOVE a good strong nose. I really wish I could find a fashion-scale aquiline nose on a female sculpt, though-- liking prominent noses while collecting smaller dolls is not an easy niche, and Iple's FID line has spoiled me for the guys, but while I appreciate that the girls have some variety as well, I have such an ideal in mind for one character...

      • x 6
    44. In sci-fi characters I need sci-fi elements. Like Caleb's cyborg arm and it's port on his chest. Or Ada's robot lines on her head and limbs.
I love elf ears, mermaid tails, fox ears, centaur bodies, vampire teeth (SO hard to find a good elegant vampire), clawed hands, and other fantasy elements.
For non-specialized characters, I needs PWETTY. Defined jaws, elegant noses, lidded eyes, etc.

      • x 3
    45. I love it when dolls have more unique features like a wide nose, tooth gaps, big ears, and almond-shaped eyes. I'm usually not a huge fan of look a bit more like anime characters (they look really pretty they just aren't my thing) and I prefer more realistic sculpts. And all the tiny imperfections really add that extra bit of personality and realism to the sculpt.

      • x 3
    46. For whatever reason, a wide nasal bridge. It makes them look a touch fae and cat-like. In general I prefer dolls not to look too much human.

      • x 2
    47. I really love sleeping heads and partially closed eyelid heads. Pictures can only do so much justice but after seeing my Miwa's sleeping face in real life, I'm blown away by how different a sleeping head makes a doll look and how it adds a peaceful and yet graceful quality to the doll.

      • x 2
    48. I love when child dolls have expressive faces.

      • x 2
    49. Cute lips that is slightly ajar, cute pointy nose, those tiny teeth showing. Ughhh theyre so adorable. Having pouts too:blush

      • x 3
    50. I really love fantasy elements in my dolls. So while I love the big extravagant elements like wings or animal legs and tails, centaurs, etc, I REALLY love when a sculpt has pointed ears. Especially if they aren't just standard smooth elf ears.

      • x 2
    51. Lately I seem to be drawn to wings. Particularly feathered wings, but also leathery, bat-like wings, which make me want to put together a Geryon (ala Anne Carson's Autobiography of Red) doll. What can I say, I love beautiful, vulnerable monsters.

      • x 2
    52. Fantasy feet - especially hooves. Vampire teeth. Elf ears, especially if they're more elaborate than just 'pointy'.
I like optional magnetic ears where you have a choice between human and fantasy. I do like the look of wings, but many wings are problematic - they fall of, break, get lost, don't fit trough clothing, etc.

I think if I had to chose only one, though, I'd go for hooves or claws. Just to save me the annoyance of having to buy shoes that fit.

    53. I just got a Resinsoul Xun secondhand a few weeks ago, and she came with these transparent forearms that I absolutely adore. It’s made me develop a love for dolls with transparent parts!

Unfortunately, I heard that they don’t sell Xun with her transparent arms anymore, which is too bad :( But it’s also possible that it’s just a rumor — I can’t say for sure!

    54. I love my dolly's boney tones and fingers lol.

      • x 2
    55. Elf ears, slightly fuller lips are PLUSES for me!

      • x 2
    56. I've noticed I much prefer dolls with graceful hands and slim wrists & ankles. Lately I've been loving dolls with very rounded facial features. :chibi

      • x 2
    57. As a default, pointy ears and teeth! I adore vampire dolls with subtle teeth, I'm not too fond of the larger teeth; but the small ones are so adorable! Elf ears are also one of my favorites, any type of those will do but something about the big droopy ears just makes me melt.

As a lesser common thing, I do really like clawed hands (monster claws), and unicorn horns. I'm not all that into centaurs, mermaids and the more fantastical creatures though. :sweat I love when companies can come out with really off the wall ideas and make it their own!

      • x 2
    58. I like dolls with long-ish noses that don't show too much nostril, and short-ish philtrums (the space between the nose and upper lip). :) Not all of my dolls have those features, but they definitely draw me more to a sculpt.

      • x 2
    59. Eye and nose shapes. The nose, in particular, can be such a unique form on the doll's face.

Or pronounced cheekbones. Because a lot of the dolls are more rounded and immature, defined facial structures just don't seem that beloved by sculptors or hobbyists alike. They do seem to be coming into the hobby more now, but back in my early days they were few and far between.

      • x 3
    60. I like cute, rounded button noses, chubby cheeks, and little bitty mouths on my YOSD and under dolls. Something I always am interested in are happy looking or smiling dolls!
