I'm a very artistic person, so I'd say I'm a combination of Storyteller, Artist, and amateur Photographer. I really need to get a better camera. XD
good thread, very thought provoking I'm into the photography side of BJD but slip into the mommy pretty easily ;lol its good to question your hobby every now and then, this thread kinds points in that direction are we getting the most out of our hobby ?
Um. I'm the Other, because I'm mainly the Storyteller with a little bit of Doll Daddy, but I'm also an Artist and a Photographer, and a Collector (with only one doll so far), and definitely a Doll Planner.
I think I'm the mother-like type. I always make sure that my babies are comfortable and dressed adequate. I really love to take them out and just brush their hair and talk to them
I'm somewhere between a doll storyteller, doll artist, and doll collector. I always want more dolls, and it makes me happy to have a big family of dolls. All my dolls have their own characters and stories, and they're all related in one big story. Also, I love sewing for my dolls. I originally started out in this hobby simply because I want a good model to make stuff for.
hmm i think i'm - The Doll Artist "To enhance the beauty already there creates life of its own." i really like the part when i do their face-ups. my first bjd already had a lot of face-ups before it looked perfect for me.. >w< i really like taking pics of them too~ >w<
I treat my doll a lot like my friend or a toy! I love handling her and fixing her clothes and just posing her a bunch
I'm definitely the storyteller owner, but I could also be a bit of a collector. Writing is my number 1 biggest hobby, so it spills over into this hobby too. But I do love the thrill of hunting down specific sculpts and buying them.
Well I am a Clumsy/rough Doll Owner ( I like to pretend I'm careful but honestly I think Vivian has hit the floor twice today and when I flashback to the times I'm curling him up and shoving him into the car console, or my purse I'm definitely a rough doll owner. ) and Dolls are my friends Owner (We hang out, we are pals and we play all the time, stories, chillin' by the computer and those kinds of things)
I'd call myself a casual doll owner as I don't tend to worry too much about my dolls and their condition. I like to do crafts for my dolls and afterwards take some photos. In the past I used to attend a lot of meet ups, but my casual attitude didn't fit well in there. Just felt a little like an outsider being the only one to say "you CAN touch my doll if you like". Basically BJD's are a hobby that I nowadays keep to myself and my closest friends and I'm mostly fine with it
--The Doll Photographer: once my girls have their propor eyes and wigs This will be me. I love to do photography and I am itching to get them out for photoshoots --The Doll Artist : This is me! hahah. I am an artist and I spend hours perfecting face up. one day I spend 5 hours drawing and erasing an eye brow because it wasn't 'perfect' --The Doll Collector: -_- I have plans for at least 20 dolls --The Doll Storyteller: Each of those 20 dolls belongs to fairy courts. Seelie and Unseelie and I am currently writing back stories for them hahah --The Doll Favoritist: I only like girls --The Doll Butterfly" I wish there were more people near me to go to doll meets with --The Doll Mommy: It was strange how attatched I got to them... and how quickly --The Doll Planner: Each of my girls have very specific looks tailored to the type of fey they are. They will have a few wigs and a few eyes each but those are very specific to the original design --Other: I like making things for my dollies. For my Tova, I plan on making a ful set of armor!!! she IS a knight after all
Kinda doll photographer, butterfly and "mommy" I guess... I suck at photography really, so it's more of an extension to the butterfly thing.
I am definitely the Doll Photographer. I got into the hobby by photographing other peoples' dolls. I would also say other because I also consider myself the Doll Artist as well because I love to make outfits and props for my doll and the dolls I photograph. I guess I would now also fall under Doll Planner because my partner just surprised me by ordering me my second doll. So for the past two days I have been planning for her arrival whenever that will be.
I think I would be the doll owner that loves photo, but also poetry. I love dressing them up, but I am very careful with them.
I'm definitely a Doll Artist and possibly a bit of a Doll Favoritist. I love to style my dolls in really trendy fashions, plot their wardrobes, do their hair, develop their characters, and either sketch of photograph them when I finish. But I'm also very picky about the dolls I want to add to my collection, and I think that's because I have a very select image of the characters I'm trying to create.
Doll homemaker. My dozen dolls (7 SD or SD17) have furnished rooms, and kinda stories, and have relationships to each other,i.e. friend, sister, spouse, offspring, colleague. I take snapshots of them, and make them clothes, then leave them for weeks.
I'm the 'lets make everything for my doll instead of buying it' kind of person. unfortunately I'm also the kind of person who starts several projects at once only to mess them up and have to put half on hold while I decide to get distracted by something else. ADHD can be a bit annoying at times
I could say Im the 'budget doll owner' I guess, everything I but is usually at a low price, I try not to spend so much when it comes to my dolls clothes and both of my dolls I bought at a decent price, I have yet to spend $300 on a doll XD
I would consider myself more the artsy-crafty type of owner. I love making stuff for all my dolls..clothes, jewelery, furniture....Eventually I want to make them some rooms to live in. I don't really take them out for photographs or anything like that. I feel like I would rather spend my time sewing/knitting. (Stuff I get stuck doing for full sized people too). I do drag the poor dolls around the house frequently. If I go somewhere for a day or more one of the dolls is usually with me so I can keep working on my current project. I think I'm the artsy crafty type owner. I see the dolls as an art project. I like the idea of getting really good at faceups, and making my own clothes or furniture for my dolls. I also like taking photos, so I know I'll have them out and about a lot, taking pictures of them. However, I will also keep them in a cabinet to keep them safe from too much sun or dog teeth.
I own 3 girls and did their face up and blushing myself. I choose to do it that way becouse than they would really feel as my dolls, they are my little masterpieces. and I like to show them off and talk about dolls ^^
Dolls inspire me to create. And they also help me to earn some extra money I am a doll collector, but brand/rarity/etc. don't mean anything to me; I simply buy those dolls that look beautiful to me.
I hate dusting, so I don't dust my dolls as often as I should - but other than that I'm very 'kid-gloves' with them - I pose them carefully out of the sunshine, and then admire them without touching them for many weeks or even months. At the same time though they are kind of family/friends - they have ONE wig, and a set character/name/personality - I'm not very creative with them at all, but I do like to sew or shop for their clothes, just as I did for my real child when he was small, so I'm a bit of a dolly-mommy type too.
I think i'm a doll planner : I bought 8 dolls since 2010 (including 3 second-hand dolls this summer...) but each time the purchase is relatively thoughtful. I do not buy dolls specially trendy but only those that I like at that time. I love the beautiful girl body and expressive faces. I'm also an inspired doll owner : I try to sew for my dolls and I try to improve myself in photos. And finally I am a cautious owner: dolls are stored in their boxes, clothes, wigs, eyes, shoes are in small suitcases special cardboard. On the other side, I'm really not a great collector or storyteller or favoritist type!!
I don't know what I'd consider myself, really. Before I would have said an exclusively female doll collector, but now I have two boys and one on order. I guess I am a "Collector who sees the good in dolls." When I look at a sculpt that I really want, I admire it. There's just either one or many certain things about that particular doll that just calls to me. I love to have variety in my collection. All of my dolls are different, but they each offer me something that the others don't. This is partly why my collection is so big.
Hmm well I'm currently an admirer where BJDs are concerned, but I'd say planner/artist. I always take my time in choosing and creating things, deffinately not an impulse buyer, and pretty picky with the way I like things to look. Once I waited over a month for beads when I was halfway through a jewelry project because the ones I got originally didn't quite match my vision...
I'm definitely The Storyteller I have a journal full of my dollies' backstories and even a layout of their fictional house I drew. ^-^
I don't have a doll yet, so i guess i'm the broke-can't-afford-a-doll type? but when i eventually save up enough for her i'll probably be the artsy-type, takin photos and making things for her.
I am the artsy doll owner! I try to make almost everything for my dolls. From clothing to furniture, I probably will try anything. Also like to photograph them, and customize their looks.
I think I am all!!! I like very much my dolls, I like taking pics of them (but I am not good at it!!) I like to re-dress them and making stories about them....but strangely the dolls gave me new inspiration...Inspiration for returning back to my pencils and my acrylics colors, and inspiration to make them clothes and inspiration to learn new things like sewing and crocheting!!! I love my two dolls soooooo much that I dont want to sell them ever, and I think their sweet faces keep me calm in many faces of my life!!! so I suppose I am the artistic kind of collector that found new paths to follow......haha I hope this makes sense to someone ...
I am the arty doll owner. I have several dolls, and change them up constantly. Re-painting, making new clothes, making new eyes and altering wigs.
At the moment I'm a lurker, but that's sure to change when my baby arrives! And when he does, no doubt ill be a cross between a doll mommy and the doll storyteller!
From your list, I am: The LE Doll Lover (every doll I own was limited in some way. Most were only available for a two or three period, and one I won in a lottery) The Trophy Keeper (I'm very careful with my dolls. At the moment I store them in boxes, but eventually they'll have their own UV-protected case to display them in) The Doll Collector (24 characters and counting, although having my heads share bodies minimises how much room those 24 characters take up ) The Doll Storyteller (all my dolls have characters with quite detailed backstories. Everything I do with my dolls relates back to their stories somehow) The Doll Favoritist (all my dolls come from the same company. I've even passed over dolls from that company due to them not 'fitting' well enough with my collection) The Doll Planner (I definitely have OCD when it comes to planning my dolls. They all have wigs from the same company, and I'll be buying all their eyes in one batch from one company, and I'm making all their clothes myself so they'll match in materials and style). I'm also: The Layaway Master (almost all my dolls were purchased on long layaways - often I'd have multiple layaways running concurrently!) The Doll Headhunter (my dolls have to share bodies. My female cream white body is the most popular, being shared between 6 different heads!) The Bestiary (I have a huge collection of fantasy parts. I have 16 different sets of fantasy legs, 10 sets of horns, 13 sets of hands, and various tails, wings and ears)
I'd say I'm a combination Storyteller/Mommy. I wish I could add Artistic, but at the moment not so much
I'm mostly a storyteller/artistic owner. I like to do my own faceups and make clothes for them and photograph them when I deem necessary. But on the acquisition side, I plan the way I'm going to purchase my next doll accordingly so I don't feel the need to empty my bank account every time I see something I want. It's just not smart.
I'd say nowadays I'm a doll mommy. I love my dolls so much, I love holding them and looking them and just, well, owning them. They are mine and they are very precious to me each in their own way. I used to be more of a storyteller/photographer. I was more concerned with the characters behind the dolls. But now the dolls come first and they just kind of create their own character, so giving them a story has become less important to me.
I'm a photo-maniac owner I can spend hours choosing an appropriate angle, light, pose. Then make hundred pictures, move to trash 99% of them and start from the very beginning.
I am truly "The Doll Storyteller". Every single one of my dolls have stories, even the dolls I don't have yet have stories xD And I love writing short stories about them, sometimes this gives me ideas for making photo-stories but I'm really lazy when taking pics.
I think Maybe I'm a Butterfly and Storyteller And I take my dolls places with me and play with them and pose them then stare at them for a while and just cry small tears of happiness
I think I am a hybrid, storyteller/planner/photographer/favoritist. I do plan very carefully before I buy a doll. I usually have a well planned character for it and I'm trying to search matching doll. I do plan which eyes, wig, clothes and so on I am going for buy for my doll. When I first started BJD hobby, I did not have a character, I did just buy a doll, because I liked how it looked. That is why I have been selling few dolls, they did not have any personality. They were fun to photograph, but that was it. Now I always plan carefully and don't buy dolls, which I don't think will be suitable for my story. I like to take photos of my dolls. I do enjoy both "Let's take a cute picture" and planning a whole scene and doing a story. I would also say that I'm a favouritist. I do look and buy mostly SD size dolls, however I do like MSD size dolls and smallers as well. I just want all my dolls to fit in the same story and I usually find SD size dolls more suitable for my characters. I would like to do a story with just MSD dolls in the future, but now I want to focus on SD size.
I'd say I'm a photographer/lazy storyteller/mommy. Maybe even a unconscious favoritist. I love my dolls to little bits, and generally enjoy having them around me all day. I work from home, so I like having a doll or two just sitting on my desk, or on my lap while I work. During my free-time, I love taking pictures of my dolls. I almost never go into it with a theme or idea in mind; I like to just walk around outside, and let them come to me. Then I'd go home with a haul of several hundred shots and spend the next couple of days editing them. As for the lazy storyteller, I have a world created around my dolls, and their backstories are all connected to each other. Unfortunately, I tend to procrastinate a lot when it comes to writing, so most of the story is still in my head for now. orz And I think I'm a favoritist unconsciously, because I noticed that I seem to be leaning towards Volks, DOD boys, and Luts and Fairyland MSDs. They pretty much make up my entire collection. :'D
I'm first and foremost a photographer. It was the photography that drew me to the BJDs in the beginning. Secondarily, I'm a storyteller. Some of my dolls have backstories but in almost every case the story came after the doll. I don't create a story and search out dolls to populate it. Rather I allow the dolls to inspire the stories. Thirdly, when my wife and I travel we bring one or two of the kids along as travel companions. My kids live on shelves well out of direct sunlight but easily seen and admired. I'm definitely not of the white glove crowd. My dolls are to be seen and photographed and loved.
I am first and for most a doll story teller I think. I am actually working on a book revolving around them. I just love creating their stories and looking into their eyes to get a feel for their personalities. It is the sculpts and the different looks you could get as if each was a character had a story and history of their own that drew me to them. I usually see the picture of the doll and if the story it is telling me draws me to it I start working on a more detailed history as I wait for him/her. The story effects everything the way they dress, the style of hair, the material their clothes are made of. Often the company picture is only the inspiring seed and I work from there. I do admit my involvement in the hobby is largely written as I do not sew or do my own faceups. I know what I want for my characters though so I usually get someone to custom something for me. I do still have a very detailed image of the character and what they would dress like act like, even speak like. I do occasionally take some pictures if it fits in with the story and the character but I am not that good at taking pictures just yet. More then anything they inspire my stories and encourage me to write. Although my first doll was a Luts Tiny Delf Dorothy all my other's have been anthros and of those 2 are Zuzu Luts, 1 aileen doll kitty, and 7 DearMine (5 DearPets, and 2 Beans) so you could say I have a leniency towards DearMine anthros. I just find the stories and back stories I think for them more charming and imaginative then the human ones lol (blame it on a childhood of repeated watching of Disney's Robin Hood and reading too much Redwall and Narnia lol) I of course also act as a doll mommy and pamper each and everyone of them to bits. I do keep them on the shelve so I can see them as I write and imagine they are smiling at me as their adventure continues.
aHahaa, I feel like I'm a mix of the storyteller and planner if I do say so myself! My doll and my future dolls all have complext backstories, and I've planned them all to a T
A mix between the doll artist and the doll photographer for sure XD I definitely got into this because I have a love of crafts and wanted to customize them.
I would like to think that while I do take excellent care of my dolls, I do treat them more like personal playthings. I love to change their outfits, take them out on the odd occasion, and just generally enjoy owning such lovely things.
lol, i say im a a mix of Doll mommy, Doll Storyteller, Doll collector, and a little Doll planner. i love all of my little dollies, they have names and some backstory, bu i love to play with them and talk about them.
I ammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ... The Doll Storyteller, Favoritist and Mommy all the way lol.
Currently, I only have one girl so I pour my creative energy and funds into her. She's my..well everything. Lol I create for her, I practice things on her. I use her for photography and story telling :3
